This shop fixed a break in my front catalytic converter for $310, when another mechanic (a the Chevron on Lakeshore) quoted me $3,200 for the repair. Auto Row Smog & Repair fixed it in a day by welding the part instead of replacing it. Saved me $2,900 and the car runs great! Definitely my go-to mechanic now.

A Honest & reliable auto repair at 80 Ive found a honest auto shop is a rare gem.at 50k I was told it needed a new AC compressorat,70k my dealer told me it needed new computer, 120k both the computer and compressor are still in the car. at 105k it had a full clutch replacement, at 115k it needed it again.lmao $2k down the tubes. Now l only use auto Row smog & Repair of Oakland. PS I dont get a discount.LOL

I was recommended Brian at Auto Row Smog & Repair and I feel so lucky that I was. Im new to the area and was very hesitant with finding a mechanic, but he was able to not only fix the problem I was having without breaking the bank, but also explained to me what could possibly be going wrong and the different tests he was running. Brian is a very competent, caring, and professional mechanic and I look forward to calling him in the future for any of my auto care needs. I couldnt recommend his shop highly enough.

Really great service for my smog check and half the price of the spot in my neighborhood. I was a drop in and was in and out in 30 min or so. Lots in the neighborhood to occupy you while you waitI understand they offer other services, so I plan to bring my car back for anything else I need.

I am very satisfied with the work these people do. I have an 1984 Econoline van which a lot of the youngsters don’t know how to fix but Brian was able to replace the carburetor as well as diagnose other problems it had with the throttle cable and starter. I would recommend them for problems big and small.

This is the best mechanic shop Ive been to in the Bay Area. The staff are really friendly and welcoming and the owner Brian is a brilliant mechanic. Ive been having issues with my car dying randomly for the past 3 years. Ive been to several mechanics with no answer to the point where I gave up solving the problem and bought a portable battery charger for when it dies. After a recommendation from a friend I took my car to Auto Row and Brian had the issue solved in just a few minutes. Thanks Brian!

I have been going to this place off and on for 15 years for smog certification, and I have always had positive experiences. Recently I brought a family member’s older model Toyota here because another mechanic had said the car would not pass smog. It passed without a problem. If you have an older car, the people here will take good care of you, treat you with respect and help your car to pass smog.

Have had smog checks and minor work done here for a while, and just had a stolen catalytic converter replaced. Brian and his team are extremely responsive and professional, and are very transparent about the work and pricing!

Very competent folks here. Came in for a smog check and the tech even filled up a tire that was going flat. During the check, he said that the computer settings had been cleared (the battery had died due to the car not having been driven during Covid). He knew just what to do - just drive it for 30 miles or so. Retest was free. You cannot overrate expertise.This is a full service shop, so if something was wrong, they could fix it right here, instead of having to look for another shop. Also, apparently the test only STAR sites will not even jack up the car to check for a correct catalytic converter (now required for STAR). These folks have an in-ground lift.Price was reasonable.

I brought my car in and met Brian and the older lady at the receptionist desk with white hair. I had a check engine light on and needed smog check. Brian assured me that he would see to it and I left it there with him. My 2004 BMW convertible. I came back a few days later. I cant remember when this started exactly but it was in March 2020. When I came back, Brian said he need me to drive my car around for a bit because my car needed to be that before repairs could be completed. This was after I paid $39.95 for a smog check and $482 for the repair.I did so for a few days and brought it back.After that, he had it for another few days and then couldt fix it.He gave it back to me and told me to, drive my car around again because they still couldt fix it until I did that.I believe I came back once more after that and guess what? He said they still couldnt fix it!After this, Covid really was setting in (May-ish) and I didnt return until this month, October. Guess what? After having my car there at his Smog Shop for a week? Couldnt fix it. This the first time I have Ever left my car with a mechanic who didnt even KNOW what the problem was after leaving it with them four separate times. Its bizarre and unprofessional.Today, Brian refunded me my $482. This is the least that he should do. I completely forgot that I paid him a smog fee (that $39.95) with assurances hed fix my engine problem. I left w/o that refund either but hey, Im not suprised given the experience I had.I have never had such a bizarre, unprofessional, not knoweldgeable experience with any mechanic. How do you not know how to repair a vehicle after 4-5 attempts? I am happy I received most of my money back but because of Brian and his smog shop, I just spent Another $70 on another smog b/c my car wasnt fixed. He did tell me he handt cleared the errors but I wanted to see if I could pass.Thats $110 down the drain and now six months wasted with my car not repaired.Great. Thanks Brian.

Good job - help pass smog on my 95 Camry. Enjoyed talking to Val, she is a wealth of knowledge about auto repair. Secret to passing smog is make sure your car is warmed up. Smog tech had my car passing except for visual inspection - my air intake hose was taped. Replaced the hose and Camry passed.

Brian, the mechanic, is great at explaining whats happening with your vehicle. Its difficult to find a trustworthy auto shop, and Auto Row seems to be it!

I’ve been coming here for years and Brian is the best. My wife’s car failed its test at a gas station. Brought it here and it passed the first time and I was done in about 15 minutes. Why go anywhere else? Their assistant Val was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and made the visit even more pleasant, not a term I usually associate with smog check shops.

The people here are so kind, knowledgeable and helpful. Ive been in the frustrating process of registering a car purchased from out-of-state with the check-engine light on and my visit to this repair shop restored my faith in good people and good service. They went far beyond running the smog check to helping me to understand my rights under the law of two different states and even dug up information on the I hadnt been able to find on existing warranties that should cover my cars problems and gave me advice on how manage the process. I recommend this place 100% - especially if youre unfamiliar with cars and unsure where to go/what to do (like me), you can expect them to be honest, fair, incredibly helpful.

I have been coming here for quite a few years. Trustworthy. Last time was my most exciting visit. The gas cap failed. They tried to repair it, but couldnt. Instead, they sold me a new cap for $10, with a promise that I could return it for my money back, if I found a better cap. I kept their cap. Im happy with them.

Good auto shop with skilled mechanics and decent pricing. They do.a lot more than smog. Val is very knowledgeable. Convenient for drop off and get on public transportation or walk to where I need to go.

Now thats what I call service! When I called to check the price, I was offered instructions for passing smog (make sure the engine and catalytic converter are properly warmed up), and when I arrived I was greeted and treated well. I even watched them walk a little old lady down the street from her car to their couch, and then they pulled her car into the shop for her. (Whether someone who cant get their own car into a garage should be driving is another matter.) Ill definitely be back again.
