This place is great. They serve coffee and pastries, but also beer and sandwiches so i can meet friends for beer and food or coffee and pastries. Plus, its right by BART and easy to get to so I never have to worry about parking. They have live music here but I dont usually stay for it because it gets loud in there and so far none of the bands have been to my taste. Good place to relax or study.

This is a great space to meet a friend or get some work done. I really like the vibe here. You can be super productive here. However, there is no wifi here. Thats the only downside.

So this place is still opened during the Pandemic and WOW ITS STILL SO GOOD!! This time I ordered the Lavender Latte (iced) and my S.O. Got the vanilla latte (hot). Both were the perfect taste! I love sweets; their coffee is definitely not overpowering sweet but has the perfect amount to enjoy. We also got the salted chocolate chip cookie and the acme bread with butter and toast. Omg the toast was SOOOOOO good!! They are super generous with the jam and it was just overall perfect. Both times I had fantastic experiences so this time I want my review to reflect that. Also they now having some outdoor seating, but no tables. It was still very enjoyable! They have it nice and shaded and the chairs they have are big enough where you can place your drink on top. The baristas were so nice and kind! Definitely recommend this place if youre in Oakland!!

Cool coffee shop! Immediately when you enter your immersed in the awesome vibe. Awaken has a ton of table and bar seating. The menu consists of coffee, espresso drinks, cold brew, breakfast food, lunch food, and beer.The service is friendly and professional. My only wish is they add eggs. I’d love an egg bagel sandwich!The toast came with high quality butter (albeit frozen) and great jam. The bread was fresh sliced.

Open everyday, which is amazing.Decent spot to work: They allow laptops anywhere but no WiFi (they experimented with the right mix before landing on that policy), a few AC outlets throughout.Tasty food menu including gluten free bagels/breads, great salads, sandwiches, and avocado toasts. I was looking for a good breakfast option when I came across this hidden gem. Im a vegetarian, but there were plenty of healthy choices for me as well. The service is courteous and prompt. Our meals were both delicious, hot, and of excellent quality. The tea and coffee were both of excellent quality. This is a place well visit again soon.

Awaken Cafe is a star attraction on the Oakland coffee scene. Great coffee, clean bathrooms, free power. They had to cut their Free WiFi but other than that no gripes. Located in the heart of StartUp Oakland.

Great coffee shop in the heart of Downtown Oakland

They serve coffee but last have beer and mimosas. Ill have scones for breakfast from time to time. The bagels are from Beautys Bagel Shop. For lunch, I usually go for the avocado toast. (Note: Sandwiches are vegetarian.) On a hot day, they have gelato.They have music some nights. Warriors games on game nights.

Vegan perspective:Nice that they have soy and almond milk for coffee drinks. Vegan donuts were sold out by 9:30am on a Friday unfortunately. Humus and avocado bagel was tasty, but a little pricy. Atmosphere was comfortable.Note: No wifi.

Menü is very boring and nothing food for dinner. The menu look like fantasy and bread was so hard as stoned.

It’s a great cafe to sit and have a conversation in. No WiFi, so don’t plan on coming here to do some computer work. Caffeinated drinks are all well done, alcoholic beverages are also an option and decent small plates.

Awaken will always have a huge warm spot in my heart! Their coffee is perfect, theyve expanded their vegan donut selection, and they have acme bread which makes their toast and sandwiches out of this world. I LOVE that there is no wifi - it makes hanging and reading a book so delightful. They always have artwork on display and i recently bought a print version of a beautiful painting I found there. Almost forgot to mention how lovely and kind the entire staff is. Love u Awaken!!

This cafe is exceptional!

Nice spot and atmosphere and cool artwork too. Yummy food options serving delicious bagels from Beautys. A little disappointing that there wasnt more avocado on mine, there was maybe about half of one on the two open face bagel halves. Also homeless coming in to panhandle is less than ideal.

The roast in this place is really something special. If you enjoy coffee at all, one sip of their beans and youll feel like you found a hidden gem, except that theyre right on Broadway. The art on display/for sale is also top shelf. From the avocado toast that I had, Im also comfortable saying that anything off the food menu is going to please.

This is a comfortable cafe with a vegetarian menu if incredibly tasty food. The gluten free options were equally good. The staff were super friendly and accommodating.

Its such a nice place! Drinks and food all get high marks, service is very nice and the space is awesome. I just wished that the volume all around were a bit lower--it makes it difficult for conversation.

I’ve been here a few times and the brewed coffee is solid, and they have a good variety of baked goods and sandwiches - including vegan and gluten free options.However, every time I’ve gotten a milk and espresso drink, (latte, cappuccino) the milk is consistently *extremely* overheated - turning eggy or even grainy (curdled), full of bubbles that quickly collapse instead of smooth, sweet, and glossy like well aerated milk - you can see the over aeration on the review photos that others have posted.They also do not have WiFi or outlets.

Very hipster spot but of the Oakland variety (so way less pretentious than in the city). Coffee is excellent. Baristas are super nice. The baked goods and food are good quality. Sometimes the music is a bit too loud. I like the mixed crowd that hangs out here.

Relaxed vibe and delicious drinks/food. Vegetarian menu. A bit on the pricy side but worth it for the calm atmosphere and kind baristas.

Nice place, located in downtown, the bartender were nice, but like tourist I was waiting my coffee on my table so then I realized that it was on the top of the bar and never ear my name... Maybe my fault the taste of coffee were good but nothing especial, but they have a beautiful window light, nice place to conversations.

The begals tasted fresh and their cream cheese was pretty good. I had a decaf latte so it was to my tasting.

Designed very cool with great pastries to choose from but they dont have wifi. I was pleased to receive two huge pieces of avocado toast but the bread was too tough to enjoy it.

Excellent space, very LGBTQIA+ friendly. Lots of natural light and a variety of different places to study, hang out with friends, or just chill by yourself. Staff are really kind and always welcoming. Great coffee-alternative drinks and lots of allergy friendly food options. Theres no wifi, so if youre working on your laptop be sure you can connect to your phones hotspot or youve downloaded what you need to work on so you can do it offline.

The cafe was acceptable. The food options werent very creative as there were only small options like bagels and toast. The decoration was a bit bland. One of us ordered iced coffee and we got strong coffee with ice cubes. There were absolutely no restrooms at all which I found a bit disappointing. Overall the cafe was ok and the food was survivable.

Conveniently located in downtown Oakland. Decent coffee and food. Not an ideal place if youre looking to work or study here as they dont provide wifi as a way to discourage people to squat here to work.

Bravo this is a great example how a local coffee should be. A coffee that taste good with an excellent South American coffee beans and organic milk....make sure that I dont forget the professional barista. I definitely recommend the Mediterranean sandwich.

Good spot to work in because they can take you through your whole work day - coffee, lunch, and happy hour - with good wifi. Electrical outlets are a little hard to come by, so come charged if you are planning to work for a while. Also a good place to see music at night.

The latte I had was good, pleasant vibe, nice and open space. But $5.50 for a latte was a bit steep. Add in the fact that they didnt have wifi...I wont be back.

This cafe is a great place for coffee, goodies, vegetarian sandwiches and salads in downtown Oakland by City Hall on Broadway! I highly recommend the avocado toast, cheese/herb biscuits and capresse sandwich

Used to be a decent place for a beer and some coffee. Nothing that I want to eat for some time. They also started getting political and supporting extremists.

Argh. i wanted to like this spot. a friend invited me once and we couldn’t come so today was my first day.cold coffee is NOT cold brew. taste was bad and was $4.5.got a banana and was not great either. (hard to go wrong on that but still..)the café has a good vibe for work but a tiny sign lets you know there’s no wifi. which sadly i saw after getting my coffee and my table.haven’t tried the food.looks good for causal meet ups w friends:)

Really dont understand why they dont offer wifi. Its 2019+ bay area, will never be back. Most stupid thing Ive seen I this year, unbelievable.
