Oakland has an amazing coffee scene and modern coffee is definitely one of the best. It is located across from federal hall and they have the best Cardomom Chai ever. Even though Starbucks was around the corner, is definitely come here again. Free wifi and power outlets available but seating is limited.

My new favorite coffee establishment. It’s so nice to get a break from the madness of Starbucks. It’s so chill here. The service here is awesome and they offer great tasting coffee. Right now I am having a peppermint, ginger tea. Cold day, tea... great combo.

Great chai. 2 flavors that are each stellar. I get a 50/50 blend because i like both so much and cant choose. Go early as pastries run out early. This means they are always fresh.... no day old muffins..... bring your own cup please.5 star rating if there were seating options for morning visits. Always packed with meetings and gabbing.

Modern Coffee third location is located across from federal building and post office on Clay St in downtown Oakland. This location is also smaller than the other two with a few tables inside and two tables on sidewalk. Worker are outgoing no matter whats thrown them. Nothing different here just same as usual with TCHO, Awesome Bar, Chromatic Coffee etc. Good for quick bite during your commute or midday break. Open M-F from 7am-4:30pm only.

Really delicious chai and nice breakfast snacks. Didnt get a chance to sit in and soak up the atmosphere but the staff seemed friendly.

This place looks amazing, and I received both a great cup of coffee and great service. Five stars for baristas who aren’t mean!
