Supermarket is fantastic. The staff is extremely pleasant. For the most part, the prices are reasonable.

I usually never review negative experiences; however, my experience in the deli department with an employee (Noah) just can’t get it right. I mean NEVER!!!! I visit the Old Saybrook store EVERY week and pray he’s not there. Funny enough there’s an “Old” lady that gets it right EVERY time. Good for her. Horrible for Noah. Being there is a shortage with staff; he may be needed; for anything is better than nothing. So, when your number is called and he’s your attendant, I recommend you wait for the next available attendant. Sorry Noah; but you NEED to step up your game or change departments. Maybe stock shelves.

The store is well stocked and clean. The staff was friendly and attentive. Aisles are marked well making it easy to find what you’re looking for. There’s enough parking and the store is easy to get to.

Everyone here is so helpful and nice. From the cashiers and front end staff, to the people that make the sandwiches and the pizzas. Best place to shop at. Only place that has ALL the brands and items that I need. Love this place!!

Great store in general, but pricey and frequently items are priced incorrectly. I love the bakery but wonder why you have an employee, unmasked, standing over cakes and icing??? Getting items out of the case and walking around looking for a box with the foiod uncovered, as is the person’s face. Yuck?

My favorite place to shop. The best market ever. I wish they would open one in NY. I dont mind driving up to Westbrook (100 miles) to do my marketing. It is clean, inside and outside, always organized with great and different choices and the Staff are amazing. Very professional, friendly and helpful. A pleasure to visit and shop.

One of the best stores I shop at on a regular basis. Jason in the dairy dept. is never too busy to help me find items and is always courteous to me. Zack in produce is a very helpful and courteous employee as well, he always offers his help if I can’t find something in produce. Great place to shop!

Prices are posted incorrectly, they have poor stock choices and don’t have some basic things that can be found at other stores. Stop and stop has way better prices and has for the most part the items you are looking for. Plus the people at stop and shop are nicer! Big y is my last place I go to look for items.AND they wipe the cart after you get it. They should be sanitized prior to customers getting the cart or just don’t do it at all leaves a line to get into the place

TerribleMeat dept...lacking variety..Wanted specialty steaks at $15.00 per steak and was not allowed to see all in the box but instead the meat person with earrings and black hair just handed me 2.0 customer satisfaction.

Edit 9/24/21Im still disappointed by their mask policy and enforcement during the height of the pandemic, but at least now they have a mobile app that makes shopping there much faster. No more dealing with checkout, even self checkout.*Their mask policy is a joke. Went in today and there were multiple people walking around with their masks down on their chin.Managers and employees were all over the store but no one said or did anything.I honestly dont feel safe shopping here anymore.

Being from Hartford have not found a good Italian Pizza, Most places here are Greek, Big Y has a GREAT PIZZA and an Awsome Sea Food Selection

I want to thank the woman who was organizing the check out lanes on Saturday morning at the BIG Y in Old Saybrook. I was in a hurry to return a rental car by 10 am and was in a long line of patrons at 9:35. She originally put me in a check out line that was behind two customers with large loads. (I only had 5 items and thought, Iĺl never make it in time.) I called her over and explained my situation and she immediately took action with no judgement and had one of her cashiers open a lane just for me. I want to thank her and Big Y for their excellent customer service and for taking the time to run their business efficiently and compassionately.

Good service, good selection, multiple locations, better prices and stock than their usual S&S competitors. His time I was able to get in, buy a few items I needed and be on my way. The checkout lines were not a problem, but I dont agree with self checkout. These supermarkets bring in a lot of profit and they can afford to pay people for checking out.

Manager is extremely rude, only the cashiers Ive seen wearing proper PPE. Person making my daughters grinder was not even wearing a mask properly. Glad her chin and neck are protected. Needless to say I did not get the sandwich

Once again a disappointment. They always seem to be sold out of the sale items I go in to shop for. Their only saving grace is their excellent customer service at the checkouts

Enjoying our last few days of vacation and my boyfriend wanted little neck clams. He was overwhelmed with joy when he noticed a posted price of $2.99 lb. He ordered 3 lbs and when he met me with them, the price on the bag was reflected $5.99 lb. We went back to the seafood dept and the clerk was working in front of the case and when we questioned him; he said the sale was last week. His back was still turned against us and I asked him where the posted sale tag was and he ignored my question. How rude!! We knew he took the sale tag price down because we both saw it or we wouldve never ordered them. If he was a good employee, he wouldve honored the posted sale price, but hes not!

I will always give this market 5 stars. Their prices are awesome for the area,,! Usually they are around 1-1.50$ CHEAPER than the surrounding area super markets. The people are great! And they DONT overstock your bags!! They make sure you can carry them and they dont rip cause of the plastic. They arent afraid to help you with anything! You can get a good variety of things here not just food! Great floral Dept too!!

This is a very large, well-stocked grocery store. There is considerable churn at parking spots just outside the door, so a quick circle of the nearby spots will often garner a very convenient parking space.One thing I really appreciate about Big Y is that they have a restaurant in-house. When shopping hungry, would mean a large impulsive-buy cart, some of the restaurants food can reduce hunger purchases, and reduce check out $$ total.People seem happy to help. A favorite place to shop.

Wish they had self checkout, my cashier and bagger were terrible. I said put it all in my bags that I brought. I said I did not want to use plastic. They insisted on putting my produce in plastic and that it will not fit. Plenty of room in my bags, made it easily fit. Then my cashier did not know how to split the payment on 2 cards. Which I easily do myself at a self checkout lane.

Always fresh. Reasonable prices. Friendly staff. Bonus points for not having a creepy robot getting in your way!

Always a great shopping experience. Their deli, hot foods bar and bakery are the best on the shoreline. We shop there every week. Nothing is better than Big Y in Old Saybrook. Thanks for being there!

This store is my fave. Love their sales, buy 1 get 2 free. Great bakery, and their made ahead meals are great. Husband likes the salmon with herbed butter and all you do is pop it in the oven for 20 min! Even their pizza to go is good.

Local produce, fresh fish, and hand made pizza. It sounds more like a family marketplace, they have great sales for items, sometimes buy 1 get 2 free, can you believe it. Always a great place to pick up a hot lunch or sandwich too, way better then chain restaurants in the area.

Nice, clean store. Great pharmacy with a friendly, helpful staff. Good produce section, a bakery that you shouldnt even go near if youre hungry or an impulse buyer and terrific seafood, meat and deli departments.A little more expensive than the Shoprite down the road but worth it.

I love big Y and how they operate. But today I saw several cash register removed. And a sign saying we are making things better. I hope to God they are not putting in self check out. It goes against ever thing you do there.

Love Big Y! The store is beautifully laid out, and the groceries are always fresh. I only gave it 4 stars due to the fact that the only downside is its a bit pricey compared to some of the other big chain stores nearby. Lastly the bakery is difficult to pass by without getting something!! Yum!!

We like their fruits and vegetables. Deli has goid cold cuts and cheeses. Have not been disappointed with their fresh fish. Baked goods are always good, and so are their pizzas. Might be a little more pricey on some things, but there are usually some good specials/sales.

When I went into this big y it look unclean and unorganized. Also they treat there part timers really unfair willing to fair them for no reason! This place should close down!

They have these awesome giant stuffed animals for Christmas, and you need to get one; they are sooooo soft.Also like its a pretty well organized clean grocery store so theres that! And it didnt take too long to find anything we needed. And the pricing was super reasonable.

This is a very friendly environment with nice easy access lay out, helpful staff, and positive energy. though I did give it 3 stars due to the very short supply of cashiers and very busy clientele. there are a lot of check out lanes but only 4 would be open at a time with like 3 people in front of you. otherwise great store with always fresh products. This store also had a vast vegetarian and vegan selection.

As a Instacart shopper it was a pleasant experience for me. The associates were very nice and help me find grocery items that I had a hard time looking in a timely manner. Im glad to say that Big Y made my experience worth wild.

I really like the deli selection at Big Y. And the bakery usually has good deals on bagels or donuts. I do think their prices are higher than average, around 2.99 for items you can get at Stop and Shop or Price Chopper for 2.00 or less. They pride themselves on customer service and it shows. If you ever order bagels for pickup make sure that they check the stock before they say yes because I once got stuck with a bunch of plain bagels I didnt order. Someone in the bakery department should have called me first, lesson learned. Overall, Big Y is my go-to 3rd choice.
