First of all if I could give this store 10 stars I would. I stopped into Retro Records on Monday. I havent been there in a while. Met the new owner . Very friendly and knowledgeable. They have a great selection of records. And 1960s through 1980s nostalgia. Prices on everything are very reasonable. I collect Beatles records. The owner gave me a great deal on them. I definitely will be back soon. If youre in Orlando looking for records or just visiting. Stop by this place worth the trip.

Great place for some cool finds! Very friendly and helpful staff. Well-organized stock. Some very nice finds in the bargain section (got some perfectly good CDs on my wishlist for $2 each). Also some fun and oddball memorabilia. Right near Pom-Pom’s with plenty of parking.

I love this place. Whenever I go there I really don’t have anything particular that I’m looking for. I just like to browse and I always find something. Unfortunately I live in Groveland now so it’s more of a drive. When I am in that part of town I stop in. I’m never disappointed!!

I went to purchase some Vinyl at Retro today, The quality of records was good but their customer service was terrible, they need to improve their level of customer service asap,I even told the clerk Im a 4 year customer but that didnt help. They need to improve their level of service and realize Bad Customer service equals less money because people do read reviews and customers not well treated simply wont return.

Great selection. Unfortunately the brand new album I bought was warped and skipped. I was able to return and exchange for the same album (priced differently for some unknown reason) but that one too was warped. Hoping it’s just bad luck. Shop worker was pleasant but did not seem thrilled when I returned with the faulty product (not that it mattered in the end)

I have seen two people working behind the desk and they are always helpful and very nice. The will ordered anything you are looking for. The prices for their LPs are a bit high for their used albums. They do have lots of options and you will most likely find what you are looking for. If you love the sight of vinyls you will love this shop. If you willing to dig through crates you can find some gold.

I think many reviewers are particularly harsh on Retro Records. Again, this shop has been in operation for many, many years. They arent a bargain bin shop (Prices can be up there but not unheard of). They have lots of nice stuff. Over the years, Ive found plenty of choice items for fair prices. I love the vibe and the stock is ever replenishing. Especially for genes outside of Classic Rock, pricing is often on par and Ive found oddities and cool stuff I wouldnt have found elsewhere. In other words, worth a look. Dont be discouraged by some of the previous gripes.

Im not going to lie, this place has a good selection, but this guy has no idea what hes doing. Used vinyls that are 20+ years old shouldnt be selling for $30 and up, based on sleeve wear alone. Many of the used records that are this expensive are resealed, so you cant even look at them to know what youre really getting. Im sorry but a 48 year old stereo copy of Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band from the United States is not worth $40, no matter what shape its in. When I asked if the owner had any 45s, I had to describe to him what a 45 was before he could point them out to me, because I got a blank stare as if he didnt know what they are. The one thing that I found in this store that was reasonably priced were all the 45s that he has that dont have anything to do with The Beatles or any of Pauls, Johns, Georges, or Ringos solo careers.

Not great customer service. I reached out to them via E-mail. Which is on the site as a way to contact the store. I was looking for a few records sent my list and a couple questions in the email. I received a response to contact store for availably and pricing. Well I was contacting the store for that info via email. Wally was the rep. Who emailed me. In todays age with all the competition to get a customer to spend money. U think they would value any potential sale. So instead on speandinf a couple hundred bucks on Christmas gifts here. Ill go else where. Lost a good sale cause they didnt want to help me through the provided contact info they supplied

A fair selection. Lots of 12 mixes by the window. Some of the LP condition (discs, covers) are only mediocre. Rock N Roll Heaven offers a much better and higher quality selection. That said, the low star reviews from idiots complaining that their discs wouldnt play because they were scratched or warped, uh, so you didnt LOOK at the condition before you bought it? Amateur collectors, you are.

Review №35

Unfriendly owner/staff! Cheating on grading, and getting upset when commented on. I will go to other vinylshops to spend my money. All the other shops I visited in this area hade ratings from 4.9 and down to 4.6, this one 3.4 - and after visiting the other 5-6 shops I know why! The others were friendly and helpful.

The collection is endless and has plenty of variety. Nice atmosphere, unlike Park Ave Records, these guys are serious record collectors, so A+ for your collection. I bought 4 used 7 vinyls, about $23 dollars, not bad. Tried them all out but, to my surprise, out of those 4, only 1 works. The rest are unplayable and warn out and have scratches all over them. I was going to return them but usually with record stores, they cant be returned after the record is in your hands, because of the delicacy and liability obviously, I understand that. Plus Ive been told the manager will not accept returns and its a waste of time, regardless of the situation. So I wont even bother. The manager on the clock was nice and helpful though, he seemed like a cool guy. Ive heard from lots of people also say that their records have been warped from here and its sad. I never want to put down a business and shame them because I understand the economy is crap and the last thing you want is some punk kid talking crap about your store on the web, but I spent my hard earned money on these records, and I feel I got robbed blind. I did look them over before I bought them, but due to the lighting condition and my amateur skill in telling the condition of the vinyl, I struggled. If you do shop here, I recommend shopping for the new records (sealed) but the used ones are a gamble and to risky. Id be happy to talk to the owner if he were to reach out to me and gladly revise my review if this was to be handled but for now, I must do a service to the vinyl community in being honest. Ill stick to Park Ave and RNRH.**Update**Also found out that all of these records were bootlegged and not originals, beware of this place. ^1 Star^

Most unfriendly person! Will not visit again! I went in there last week and browsed through some of the records. Since the prices were rather high, I wanted to check the cheapo section underneath the tables. When the owner (older man, sixtyish, beard) saw, where I was headed, his first comment was: Well you won´t find much down there, they mostly are not in good condition. I asked, whether I could look anyway. Next reply: They will all have fingerprints and the covers are not so good. I still wanted to go on my knees to have a look. Next comment: We haven´t added anything new for the past couple of months. My reply was: Well, I haven´t been here for some years, so it doesn´t really matter to me. Next reply: Those records are down there for a reason, and not upstairs in the regular bins. Then I finally gave up, wished the person a happy life and left. I was the only customer at that time, it felt like, he didn´t want to be bothered with somebody digging for half an hour and coming up with maybe 5 records for 20 bucks. Why do you run a store then?

Lots of CDs and LPs, but ridiculously high prices. Seems like theyre more interested in building a collection than running a record store. Spotted a couple counterfeit colored presses of classic albums being passed off as imports as well as a cockroach on the floor. Maybe youll find something good in the used record section, but plan on just flipping througha bunch of common albums in bad condition at stupid prices.

Review №44

Enormously overpriced and the owner tried to scam me. Although the selection of vinyl here is impressively large and diverse, the prices are outrageous. $12 for a vinyl copy of Purple Rain? Really, the same vinyl copy available on E-bay for $2 or available at another local shop, CD Trader, for $3? $20 for a late pressing of Abbey Road? Uh, why? Just because it is The Beatles? If you are looking for vinyl, try E-bay. If you are looking for CDs, try the Amazon Marketplace, both the selection and prices are far superior. Actually, given the price of his stuff, even buying new from Amazon would usually be a cheaper alternative. But if you are looking for cassettes, this place is pretty good.Upon purchasing a few Prince cassettes, the owner asked me if I was a Prince fan. After my confirmation, he asked if I had an original copy of The Black Album on vinyl to which I replied, no. He asked if I have ever seen one in person to which I replied, no.Assuming I was naive, he then proceeded to state that he owned an original copy and was willing to part with it for only $90. Knowing that original copies were not only exceedingly rare but valued anywhere from $300 to $400 depending on condition, something was off. Trying to bolster his pitch, he claimed his prior position at a record company allowed him access to this album and when Warner Bros. famously recalled the entire product line days before official sale to the public, this man held on to it knowing it would eventually be worth something. So, I asked to see the album in question. He showed me. I scoffed at the disdain and competent he must have had for my intelligence. It was an obvious bootleg. A bootleg that E-bay later revealed to be readily purchasable for $30. The Black Album was just that, an entirely black album. Princes name and likeliness appears no where on the original versions. On the other hand, this version proudly displayed Princes name in pink letters, had his picture plastered on the cover and was made by Erotic City Records.Incredulously, I asked him if he realized this was an obvious bootleg. Unrelentingly, he defended the authenticity of this record, going so far as to claim Erotic City Records was a part of Warner Bros. Records. This man is no fool. He is not unknowingly trying to sell a bootleg, he lied to my face about how he obtained the album in a calculated attempt to rob me of $90. I will never shop there again.I refuse to spend money in a place owned by a morally bankrupt man.(This incident occurred 10 years ago and may no longer be relevant)

Pros:- Vast selection of pre-1990 vinyl.- Good prices on new vinyl (used vinyl is reviewed below... -sigh-)- Many different mediums (CDs, tapes, 8-tracks, etc.)- Vintage toys, magazines, autographs, etc.Cons:- INSANELY overpriced used records (a worn out copy of Neil Youngs Harvest with split seams? $25! The same copy of Harvest in great condition? $25. A sealed original pressing of Red Hot Chili Peppers Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magic? $100!).- As someone who visits a lot of thrift stores, a lot of the vinyl looked like it came from thrift stores: Lots of heavy wear & split seams, all inappropriately priced.- No plastic sleeves on 90% of the vinyl, regardless of high prices.- Though this store has a great selection, dont expect to find much in terms of lesser known artists. (The stack of stag records were pretty cool)

A lot of vinyl and some badly categorised CDs. All looked a bit run down. found a Bonnie Raitt CD with scratches and asked if we could check if it played. Directed to a very old portable CD player at the back of the store. Couldnt get it to operate and the guy running the store wittered about switches etc but couldnt be bothered to sort it out. I wonder if the money is made through on line trading and the store is just a storage facility.

Well heres the Lowdown, I went in with approximately 181 Vinyl LPs. Between 3 and 6 on Saturday which is the only time they buy records.I had a fair smattering of everything 70s and 80s such as Todd Rundgren, Jackson Browne, Emerson Lake and Palmer and many others. Most of these albums I paid retail for back in the day, and theyve been played 3-4 times. It took the dealer approximately an hour to fish through everything and when he was finished he chose 4 records and offered me $5. I was so shocked I accepted the $5.But in retrospect I should have told him no thanks, but thanks for pointing out the 4 albums out of my 181 that you think will sell.So my advice is, if you want to sell your Vinyl collection do your homework on E-bay and stay away from this place.I am confident I can selll the other 177 Albums on E-bay with some effort.
