We have been going here eever since we moved to Palestine 2 years ago. Usually my husband takes his company truck to get the oil changed and whatever else needs to be done,. It usually takes a while, but we live down the street, so we just drop it off and pick it up later in the day. Because its on his company credit card, we never have to worry much about the price. A few weeks ago, my father in law came to visit and saw a sign saying they were offering 24 dollar oil changes. He works for Napa, so he already buys all of his oil at a discounted price. So all he had to do was bring up his car, filter and oil, and pay 24 bucks and they change it. They called and told my father in law that the two oil bottles he provided were dark and chunky, and that they couldnt use it. For some reason, they completely emptied all his oil, prior to looking at the oil provided. Forcing him to purchase oil from them. It didnt make sense, because the oil he provided was brand new. . He sensed something was fishy, but waited until he got home to check the other containers of oil that he purchased at the same time to see if they were dark and chunky as well, and they werent. So basically they lied to make him buy their oil. What should have been a 24 dollar service, ended up being over 100 dollars. We will no longer be going to them, and its kind off embarrassing because we talked so highly of this place,. Convinced our father in law to go, and he got ripped off. Dont get ripped off!

I was dealing with a brake issue and turns out instead of them just selling me new products they actually told me my clips were installed wrong and that they just needed to be turned around! The vehicle was new to me and I had not known and instead of them selling me new parts I didnt need they repaired it and I was on my way!

I pulled over at Mattern’s on my way to Houston. My car was making an awful screeching sound. Mattern’s looked at and told me what was wrong without charging me anything. He told me I had a noise issue and not a safety issue and to continue on to Houston. They are good people in my book!

They do take awhile to check on the car, but they also get the job done! They are a bit pricey, but I also know that my car is in good hands! They thoroughly explain the issue with my vehicles and do what they can to fix it! Will I take my car here everytime? Most likely! They have great customer service, a pool table, dominoes and plenty of waiting area!

I was told I would be seen in 30 minutes. After setting in the parking lot for an hour, I left.

Free examination to assess the issue, greased my steering rods, and tightened the loose bolts on my gear box that was resulting in faulty steering which was the problem. I thought it was the alignment. I was dead wrong. I am also poor and had not, really, a way to pay for too much so I was very worried. The whole thing turned out No Charge and the problem was fixed! Thanks Matters!!!

I went in to Matterns tire on Friday the 24th of 2020 to get three tires balanced and a used tire put on. I have a state issued blower in my car and I informed the mechanic who was taking it to the back if the system went off then I needed to be present or it would cause a false violation. He said ok, Ill come get you when we start it back up. When I went to the back of the shop after a two hour wait, might I add, I started my car up and saw I had a violation on the device with a countdown on the device. I wasnt sure what it meant at the time, so after leaving and paying for the services I called the state department to find out, to which they told me during the time of the visit at Matterns there was a violation to which I had to pay to have reset and my receipt would not be adequate for any kind of reimbursement . This morning I called Matterns to see if there was any way to get this solved on their end.. To which the guy who answered the phone told me the car stayed in the on position (which I was not informed of on Friday) and he had nothing to do with it. I told him it was negligent on their end for not letting me know so I could go to the back of the shop and be aware of that to avoid this whole situation. The man got very irate so I told him nevermind and thanks. I wasnt going to argue with some man on the phone who is front counter of the business. Completely UNPROFESSIONAL AND NEGLIGENT. I would never reccomend this dusty shop to anyone who asked me. A hard lesson to learn from irresponsible people.

Normally i am very happy with Mattern’s service. very good, nice people. But today was different. I was at Matterns from 8 am until past 11, 3 hours for an alignment, oil change, inspection, and a filter change. 3 hours!!

Great group of mechanics taking care of our car. When I have a question or an auto problem, they are more than knowledgeable giving sound advise. They are through and good auto mechanics. Ive taken all my cats to them for repairs.

We took our car to get alignment a month ago. The gentleman told my husband that the CV Axle was bent. So we made an appointment to take our car back up there to get fix because it was shaking so bad when we reached about 50mph. When we went to pick it up the gentleman told my husband he drove it and everything was working great. Well guess what the problem wasn’t fix Guys. So we are out 350 and now have to take it to someone that actually knows how to work on cars.

I have been coming to Matterns for literally years now. Every time they get you in and out and the work is done as expected. From tires to replaced heater cores to tune-ups they have never kept a vehicle more than 24 hrs to get any work done. They are my go to place for most any vehicle work that needs to be done and in short order.

My husband and I brought his truck in to get new tires and rims put on it because it was vibrating like crazy since he had the tires rotated at a local shop.The knowledgeable guys at Matterns figured out that the tires had been balanced incorrectly!My husband thought he had a bent rim or messed up tire.$60 later and the truck is balanced and running like new! Highly recommend!!

Went to Matterns tire today 3/23/18 to get my car inspected and was told my car would not pass because of the windshield having the tint on the top, now mind you that Matterns is the only place I have ever taken my car to get inspected and it has always passed with the same windshield that came from the factory like that way and now they dont want to inspect it. Well guess what they just lost a customer. Me and my husband has always taken our vehicles and trailers there for inspections and tires. We have spent alot of money with them not anymore. So I took my car to the Ford dealership and guess what my car passed with flying colors. I was told that the gentleman at Matterns was full of you know what. Good bye Matterns and I Will make sure my family will no longer be using your company..

Called on a Saturday morning for front brakes, rotors, oil change, tire rotation and tire balance. I got there in 20 min and got right in. Ended up not needing rotors after pepboys told me mine were shot. He called and said he could machine em down to practically new instead of just replacing them and making extra money. All that only cost me 280. I got an oil change, back brakes and rotors a couple months ago at pep boys and it was 840. Great people, great work and great prices. They didnt try to replace everything to empty my wallet.

One star because he came and changed tire to get me to store but those behind counter were very rude 😡 when I had to comeback due to vibration. They messed up the new tire when put on rim but refusedto fix it and said it was not vibrating. Had to go elsewhere AND buy another new tire.

Had to get a new engine in my Dodge a few months ago and was told this is the place to go, and I sure am glad it happened this way. Its been a few months and my truck is better than ever. Now, this is the only other place I will take my vehicle other than Firestone; they are super friendly, the service is always top knotch, and they have excellant craftsmanship.

Sure, anyplace, seems like, can give you an oil change and a few can do the state inspection. But Matterns has a pool table and pretty good coffee, too.Theyve done well by us and we dont mind saying so: A/C problem, bad ignition switch, the kind of stuff that just happens on a farm truck. Handled the wifes lexus with kid gloves, too.Between Matterns and Palestine Transmission in two, one of the most surprising parts of living in rural East Texas is that you can still find honest automotive service in these parts - and not at top dollar hourly shop rates of dealers.

I needed an oil change and wanted to get my brakes checked. I pass by this place called Mattern Tire and I stop in. As I am leaving I smell oil burning so I pull over and open the hood. I look at the engine and see oil that appears to have been spilled or dripped. I decide it will eventually burn off and go away. I get back in the car and notice my Engine Oil Life reading is at %30. Well thats odd. It should be at %100 since I just got it changed. I drive until I get home. I pop the hood and go to take the dipstick out. Thats when I notice the stick is in the hole but the dipstick is sticking out of the tube and is bent up against the firewall. I pull it out. The stick is all bent up. I try to straighten it and get it to go into the pipe and then into the hose so that it goes back onto the engine. I pull it out and find dirty old oil when it should be new. What did I pay for again?
