Had a poor experience here unfortunately. It started raining as we were walking over. When we arrived they were putting away the patio furniture. We went inside and we we were warmly greeted by the bartender. There was no one sitting at the bar and it was still raining outside but we were told we were not allowed to sit at the bar because we werent members. My gf asked to wash her hands and was told their restroom is for customers only. I understand why they would only allow customers to use their restroom but they wouldnt even allow us to be customers because they had nowhere for us to sit.We walked out perplexed and they lost themselves a sale. It was a bummer, the place looked nice. But wont bother to ever return.
Unfortunately, this business is confused between doing business with customers and policing them. It has a mask policy that it puts above customer service, or even doing business.Walked into the place just after it opened on Saturday. Did not have a mask, but was willing to cover my face with my shirt. Was harshly commanded by staff to “leave now!” When I said that I’d be sure to leave a good review, the clerk put it on me, telling me that I was “breaking the law” by standing in the shop without a mask (which is untrue — no such law has been passed for either businesses or individuals). STILL, I offered to do a transaction by telling her what I wanted and having her bring it outside the front door to me. But still she persisted to harshly turn me away. (They have an online purchasing system, but I told her I needed the product in hand — I was purchasing gourmet beer as a birthday present). She was adamant to refuse to do business with me!These are definitely strange times when shops are turning away business in favor of enforcing what is in effect segregation — in this case people who have masks versus those who do not. Even stranger was the fact that when I purchased over $70 worth of beer from BeerLOVE a few days earlier (the night Ida hit town), they offered masks at the door if you didn’t have one! Today, however, they offered no masks, only an uncompromising “stay away!” attitude for those of us without a mask. Very confusing.Apparently, BeerLOVE has no clear operating policy, has not trained staff on the difference between law and policy (mask mandates apply only to the business itself, not the customer, which is why businesses offer masks to potential customers), has failed to adequately train staff on courteous customer service skills, and cares more about rigid policy enforcement than wanting to work on site with potential customers of any class. It’s a shame because I was really pleased with their product, which is why I returned to repeat business. I’m also in favor of supporting local shops. But if you want to act in ways even the conglomerates are not, then you’ve lost a customer.
I love this place. The staff is always kind and helpful. You feel safe going in because of their covid protocols and cleanliness. Yes they ID but take it as a compliment and remember it’s literally their job and the law.
Greet selection of beer and wine, gems like this Portuguese red, well organized, fairly priced. Fantastic dude behind the counter.
This spot is exactly what the neighborhood needs! I love that I don’t have to go to south street state store and I can support a local business. The guy that runs the place always helps me pick out beers for summer and I they have a nice selection of wine that’s reasonably priced!
Oof, not a good experience here at all. Not a great variety of beers on the small menu. Beers seemed overpriced. I also noticed that the server gave my table our beers in plastic cups, whereas everyone else sitting outside had their beers in actual glasses. Lastly, the server (& maybe only?) worker there (a tattooed middle aged guy) was REALLY rude. My friends and I tried talking to him initially, but he was super condescending and had zero personality. He berated my friend for a joke she made, and made her feel so bad, that we literally left immediately. Overall, a pretty awful experience & I would not recommend it. There are FAR better places to check out in the neighborhood - save your money & support nicer/kinder/more friendly businesses.
BeerLOVE has an impressive selection of Beer, Wine and Sake. Along with good miscellaneous merchandise. The owners are very friendly with a safety-first approach to serving their clients. Masks are REQUIRED, this mandate is strictly enforced (as a regular customer this is a very relieving). If you dont know what youre looking for the management are very knowledgeable and offer good suggestions for all their items (this is how I found a new seasonal favorite beer!) Strongly recommend. Small business, friendly, convenient and safe. ALL COVID-19 safety protocols are followed, if you do not want to wear a mask then you will be asked to leave, its that simple. I encourage anyone reading this to check out this awesome small business but please do so safely!!
Fantastic neighborhood spot for an eclectic selection of beer. The staff is always excellent, and provides safe, and great service in their outdoor area during the pandemic. Terrific beer selection that is made better by staff always willing to discuss options to find the new beers to fit your palate.
Horrible customer service so many other good beer places other than this place. Workers are rude and complain about mask even if your vaccinated. Recommend going somewhere else.
Always friendly when I arrive for pickup orders and their new website makes placing an order super easy! Feels like theyve definitely taken customer safety into account with their current process. Great products, great people, great shop!
Huge fan of this place, starting from the convenience (i live a block away) to the selection (familiar favorites and welcomed surprises) all the way to the people (owners and staff are always friendly and only suggest when requested, which i appreciated). if i ever move from Queen Village, I wish I could take this place with me.
Been a proud customer for years! Its sad seeing people give this business bad reviews because the establishment chooses to follow the law, and do everything they can to provide a safe and welcoming environment and craft beer bar. I look forward to when we can sit at the bar again and chat with the owners, staff and other customers. If you cant remember to bring your ID to a bar then you shouldnt be at a bar. If you cant wear your mask during a pandemic then stay home! Cheers to Beer Love and their high quality selection and service!
BeerLOVE is a staple of the neighborhood. Great selection, even better people and service. I also can’t appreciate a business enough for putting the health and safety of its patrons, community and employees first during this pandemic. shop small.
Ive been a regular customer here since moving into the neighborhood, went to pick up my beer tonight and they wouldnt give it to me because my son is with me and he didnt have ID. If the person wasnt ridiculously rude about it, I would have simply had my son go get his ID (He is 21), but the person working there seemed to be in some kind of bad mood and berated me because I was putting him at risk. Hey Beer Love - teach your employees how to communicate!
I go to BeerLove at least once a week for the Past few years to pick up wine. They always have a great selection and are super friendly when i go to pick up. They have very safe Covid Precautions in place that i really appreciate!
Great experience! Good selection and great staff!!
Came here one day last week with my brother who is half black they were extremely rude and we were getting ready to leave Because we did not feel comfortable in there and in a little argument with them over the way they were treating us The lady that owns the place wind up saying the N word it was i was Extremely upsetting over this people like this should not be running a business In Philadelphia if you are prejudiced they should be shut down
Always a great place to buy beer, I also happen to know the owner and she is a genuinely nice person. Everybody needs a little BeerLove!
From beer selection to beer quality to customer service, this place was phenomenal. Was asked for our IDs upon entering, which isnt ever a surprise. The bartender, Chris, was personable, knowledgeable of beers, and great to talk to about music (rock/alt rock) and beer. We could choose beers on draft or a WIDE range from the fridge; some people bought beers to go. Definitely an amazing place to play cards and enjoy some beers with a significant other. Thanks for the fantastic experience. Almost didnt want to leave for the 76ers game...
Love this place. Staff is super friendly and it attracts a local cast of characters. They have a decent selection of bottles and cans as well as a tap list.
The best place to drink beer.
Great place to out a six pack together, try new beer, or have a draft beer from their awesome rotating selection. Not to mention, they do beer cocktails that are out of this world! The staff is friendly and knowledgeable! I highly suggest beer love.
Stopped here for the first time last week and had a wonderful experience, was helped by a very friendly, knowledgeable bartender.Today I stopped in with some friends, one of whom happened to forget her ID. I have honestly never been treated so rudely by an establishment in my life. The bartender caused a huge scene about my friend not having her ID and basically told us to get out.I understand PA laws and we were perfectly accommodating to the fact that we all had to leave to grab my friend’s ID, but decided not to come back as we felt humiliated in front of other customers.I then called to politely report my experience, was asked my name?... and then basically was told “okay”. No apology, pledge for a better experience, etc. It’s a shame because this place has such potential, but I’ll be taking my business elsewhere.
Incredibly rude staff, will never return again
This is a fantastic place to pick up some beer. I stopped in just to get a couple beers to go but there is also a bar with multiple options on tap. I will have to come back by to check out the bar for sure. The place is very clean and the beer is well organized. The prices were not terrible either. There was one woman working there and she was very welcoming. Wyndridge Farms Sherbet Punch IPA was one of the beers I picked up and that was five stars as well. Check it out for something that isnt too strong but super tasty! Cheers!
So glad to find this place in my neighborhood. Great selection for such a small set-up. It is a little pricey, but I really like being able to get singles to try a bunch of different beers. Ill be going back for sure!
Great beer selection. Try the Dupont Moinette.
Been going to Beer Love since it opened. Fantastic selection, great prices, and top-notch service. Theres no better spot for beer in Philly. Beer Love has a relaxed, comfortable vibe and a great selection on tap. Stop in for a cold sixer and stay for a few pints!
Extremely RUDE - walked in with a friend spontaneously to grab some beer for my husband. It turns out my friend did not have her ID on her, and I was told I couldnt buy 4 beers because she didnt have her ID (I did). Meanwhile, Im 27 and pregnant, my friend is 24, and I was not even buying the beer for anyone currently at the store, I was buying it for my 32 year old husband!! I was told I would not be able to come back to purchase beer by myself for another 24 hours. The problem was not necessarily all these uptight rules for 4 craft beers, but that the cashier was the rudest person Ive ever come across. I hope this place goes out of business, the only reason it hasnt already is because its selling beer. There is no way youd be able to get away with that type of customer service with anything else except maybe the DMV.
The place is nice, well put together, and clean. The woman on staff was extremely informative, which I loved but she didnt stop speaking long enough to give me a moment to focus on what I was browsing for so I had to feign continued interest and read labels. The extra time it took got me a parking ticket making the already costly beverages WAY to costly.
Fantastic variety but the most bipolar pricing scheme Ive ever seen. City drinking is always expensive, but the beer here will genuinely make you broke. Its on another level.
Cool place! Nice staff. Good place to have a beer without the darkness of a bar.Update:I would love to be patronizing this place these days; they’re really close by and I’ve had good experience there in person. But their system since covid is really not user-friendly, there’s no option to just say what you want at their window, and staff aren’t exactly helpful or communicative about any of this. I know it’s a tough situation to adapt to but we’re like a year into the pandemic now. I’ve just stopped trying here.
Excellent beers on tap, and knowledgeable suggestions when selecting beers from the fridge.Updating my review to say that the new website for online ordering is very easy to use, particularly if you want to browse to find something new to try.
Great little place to have a beer. Friendly service. Very clean and new interesting beers we have never tried before. Stop in before the cat cafe!
Exceptional bottle bar with reasonable prices and great rotating selections. Relaxed energetic vibe and cool beer cocktails. Good call.
Stopped in here on the fourth for a couple of American IPAs the selection was bride and was able to quench our thirst. Surprisingly on the way home one of the beers popped a pinhole leak, we returned and were provided a replacement without issue.
Its a great spot, my favorite craft beer spot to hang out and taste great beers.
Incredible beer selection, and a great laid back vibe. Highly recommend if youre looking for a niche beer in the city.
Great place for a cold beer. Super chill vibe. Awesome beer selection. Kristen + Jon are great!
I found the staff to be aloof, the selection mediocre and the mark ups incredibly high. The place may be convenient for people in Queen Village but there are better places to go for beer.
So first time I went I forgot my ID, no big deal. I know no ID no serve. Well second time around I only went so bf can enjoy some beer. I didn’t plan on drinking so I purposely didn’t bring my ID. They wouldn’t serve my bf or let us drink bc I didn’t have my ID. I didn’t know you can’t go in a place without ID, yet I see children. Then the bartender goes “oh do you know Chris? The owner? Bc then you can stay here”......lol what? My bf sat last time I didn’t have my ID and the bartender gave me water. After reading other reviews on their customer service I feel better. They’re losing business and eventually I’mSure they’re going to get a lot of complaints.
If you like trying new beers, this is the place for you. Every time I visit, I try a new amazing 🍺
Great spot! Awesome beer selection and friendly staff.
Amazing. Between the variety on tap and the massive fridges the beer lover in your life is sure to find something he or she will enjoy.
Cant say enough good things about this place! Ive heard it described as a bottle store/beer bar with a coffee shop vibe. The young couple who own the place are very friendly and knowledgeable. If youre not sure what you want they can offer a wide range of suggestions based on your general preferences or they can introduce you to something really interesting and new. Also, the place is BYOF (bring your own food!) so we often do takeout and sit at the bar to chat with the owners and other customers. Check this place out the next time youre in the neighborhood!
Saw another review similar to what Im about to say. Found this place a couple weeks ago, seemed decent. Stopped in while walking the dog. My wife stayed outside with the dog; they wouldnt sell to me without seeing both our IDs. Bizarrely aggressive about it. She didnt have hers on her, but I did. Were in our 30s. Said we both had to come back with IDs, and he wouldnt sell to me for 24 hourswithoit seeing hers because thats the law. Cant find that law anywhere. Guy was just kind of a dick about the whole thing. Wont be back.
Nice draft beer selection, extensive bottle selection, plus friendly staff AND friendly patrons
Always a wide range of selection. Prices arent too too bad either
Good beer on tap, relaxed atmosphere and always great beers in the coolers. If you have not been to BeerLOVE when you in Philly, you are missing out
Fantastic selection of craft beer in singles. Lots of different events taking place. They have a beer club which we joined for a custom six pack
Small but quality selection of draft beers. Problem is no menus and the chalk board is hard to read in the dim light. Barman just directed clients to the board, not very communicative. On movie night some of the audience was loud and disruptive, but staff did nothing so evidently its considered normal. No food or spirits as far as I was able to determine.
If you dont have your ID on you, dont bother going in. Doesnt matter if youre 70. Theyre strict. Great selection of beer.
Great little place with a crazy selection of beers.
Its a must stop for stout lovers and hop heads. Amazing selection and helpful staff.
Good selection of crafts, pretty much only single bottles though no packs, and about 20% markup compared to other places. $10 for a domestic sixer
Great selection! They have some pretty great bartenders too!
Decent beer selection with friendly and helpful staff
Awesome beer spot. Good selection and beer yoga on Sundays!!
Amazing spot for discovering new beers, ciders and alcoholic sodas. They also have a nice selection of GF options.
Great beer selection and excellent advice from the staff.
Place is awful. Staff is extremely rude and inconsiderate. Go somewhere else.
Great beer selection and nice staff.
They have really top shelf beer
Great beer selection, friendly and knowledgable staff, and reasonable prices! They have an unbeatable variety with regularly rotating seasonals. They have a few beers on draft at the bar, and regular beer tastings on Wednesdays and Fridays. Also, you can order Grubhub or grab some takeout and eat it at the bar while you enjoy your beer!
Super friendly staff great beer selection my go to beer shop.
Amazing section, great prices, friendly people
Great selection, very friendly and knowledgeable owners!
I have spent hundreds of dollars at this location and I am local and still treated rude. I was even turned away because my wife who was just in the store to stay warm didnt have her Id. Yet we have both been in there many times and are both over 35..Beer is overpriced and selection is not that great. Walk up a few blocks to 8th and Bainbridge they just added a huge beer section to this convinence store, better selection and better prices. They now have my local business for sure!
Was disappointed, was not a friendly atmosphere, place had a very odd smell, beer was good but I would pass on this place, could be a cool place right in the mix of everything but they need to make changes, fyi
Quaint little craft beer bar, good rotating tap selection, large quantity of quality single beers to purchase for on-premise consumption or take home with a helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable staff.
Friendly and knowledgeable staff and an excellent craft beer selection.
Great beer selection. You can also get a drink at the bar and order takeout.
It shouldnt smell like a frat party at 5 pm. I get it, beer will obviously spill throughout the night, but the stench of dried beer is very noticeable.
Nice folks, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff
Good beers on tap at averages prices
Good brews N Crew
Amazing bottle selection.
Great selection and really friendly
Favorite place to just chill.
The staff is nice but the owner is rather unpleasant. I probably wont be returning as a result of the experience.
Love this place!! 🙌🏼
Great bottle selection!
The staff are nice enough and the selection is above average, if a little pricey, but theyre giant sticklers for ID. Nowhere else I go to get beer to go cares.
Will not accept out-of-state IDs. Too much at stake?
Beer me
Top good beers. Hyper good advice we recommend if you are amateur. Good can to take away too!
