In 1988, I stripped down my grandmother’s chest of drawers after years of paint had been layered on by my mother. The piece dates between 1936 and 1945. I had good intentions of finishing it, but the years went by and time started to take its toll. Unknown to me, my husband took the chest to Village Woodsmith. I pulled in the garage and there it was. I was shocked at how beautiful it turned out. Beyond my wildest dreams. The color is gorgeous and the finish is so silky smooth. I would never have been able to bring the beauty of this piece back to life. If you have a treasured item that needs restoring, take it to Carlos. He did and absolutely amazing job and put a lot of care into his work.

We reached out to Carlos to refinish an old stereo cabinet handed down from grandparents and an antique chair picked up at a flea market many, many years ago. Workmanship was excellent and worth the price ! Very professional, quick turnaround and excellent customer service.

The team did an amazing job refinishing a very large china cabinet I purchased from a garage sale. I took the piece to them scratched, with broken hinges, and in desperate need of new paint. They gave it back to me looking brand new! I had a specific vintage design that I wanted painted onto the cabinet, and Carlos worked closely with me to get it just right. The Village Woodsmith does amazing work, and are amazing to work with. We have a wooden armchair from the 1950s that our puppy decided to snack on. They restored the damage and refinished the chair, and it looks *better* than it did when we got it. I cannot tell where the dog went to town on it, and the color is beautiful and lively. This review is long overdue!Carlos did absolutely amazing work on my 100+year old farmhouse oak table and chairs. He made the table look brand-new. He fixed all the chairs and even cut out the stickers from the old chairs (stating what year they were made) and glued them on to a piece of wood and mounted them on the new seats (kept the old character). He also reupholstered the chairs- fantastic job.Carlos also restored old wooden doors in my house and made them come to life. They were almost destroyed from years of direct sunlight and people were telling us we needed new doors. I was reluctant to buy new doors and lose the character and authenticity of these old doors. I called Carlos and in 2 weeks, he repaired and stained the doors and made them better then new doors!His prices are reasonable and comparable to others. He always called me if he encountered something unexpected. He did the job on time. He even sent me a photo of the table progress. I couldnt be happier. I had a mahogany desk from the 40s or 50s that had been stained cherry and had many imperfections, chips, and a broken foot. The desk had many intricate details, a lot of hardware, and a lot of work was required. It took five weeks to complete the job. That is what I expected. It is even more beautiful than I thought it could be. The finish is now mahogany, the cherry has been stripped from it and it is just beautiful. It still has an antique look to it, it hasnt been made to look like a new piece of furniture. But the finish is just flawless

For years now my wife has been holding onto her Mothers old cedar chest. It had been moved around and been abused for years. From being in a barn at her brothers house in Northern Michigan, to being shoved in a hot leaking shed here in Arizona. Worst part is that one of her brothers decided he was going to fix it up about 15 years ago. He decided that a belt sander would be the right tool for this job. You get the idea it barely resembled the cedar chest that her mother had received as a wedding present almost 80 years ago. But she would not let it go.Could not decide what to get my wife for Christmas. Having just moved again, the cedar chest had been put from the shed into a storage locker. I got the idea to have the cedar chest restored for my wife, as it had great emotional value to her. With not much hope of ever getting this thing even close to looking good I searched for someone to restore the cedar chest. Brought it to a couple places and one place said that it was in too bad of shape and to just fill in the damaged parts glue and screw loose pieces together and paint it. This was not what I wanted for my wife.Brought it to the Village Woodsmith and they made it new again. Been married almost thirty years and this was by far the best gift she could ever gotten. After unwrapping it only partially, she broke down and cried like I have never seen her do before with any gift ever. She said that it looked just like it did when she was a little girl. Her and I both never thought that anyone could ever make this now beautiful piece of furniture ever usable and beautiful again. If you are contemplating getting any work done at this establishment. You have found the right place. They bent over backwards to have this ready for me by Christmas. And the workmanship is incredible. They are true artists.

As per their request I sent an emailed photo of the piece of furniture I wanted striped. I was given an estimate over email and the email did not say they needed to see the piece for a more accurate estimate. When I got there before I even said what I wanted them to do with the piece, iI was now quoted at almost double. I was shocked! I could have understood a little bit more but not almost double. Carlos was very nice, but the price difference was unacceptable. I opted to figure out something else.i cant speak to the quality of their work only the quoting process

Simply could not be happier. I had an old coffee table (nearly 150 years old) from my late husband that was falling apart. Carlos came to my home, we discussed what needed to be done, and then he took it back to his workshop. Less than four weeks later, I have a beautiful piece, fully rebuilt and refurbished. I buy furniture at second hand stores, yard sales and flea markets The Village Woodsmith refinished a file cabinet I found at Goodwill to a different color to fit my other furniture. I recently picked up an ottoman with hinged top and had them refinish it to a darker color. They did a great job taking care of some blemishes and it looks like new. Very happy with the business.

I brought in 3 pieces of a bedroom set in which all 3 had been refinished by another refinisher. When I told him I wasnt happy about one of the nightstands, he said that it couldnt be refinished any better than what he did to it . The Village Woodsmith proved him wrong.
