I had the opportunity to work with Mary @ Valley Gold Mine on a once in a lifetime coin find. While searching through a suitcase of raw, circulated Morgan Silver Dollars with one of her customers, one date caught her eye. Soon I received a text from Mary asking, “the 1893-S Morgan is a better date, right?” I replied, “uh yea, it’s the key date!” I let her know that this date/mintmark is commonly counterfeited or more often altered (fraudsters will add an “S” to an 1893 Philadelphia coin, which has no mintmark), so I needed to see the piece in person to verify it exhibited authentic diagnostics. Upon viewing the coin, I was shocked to learn that it was authentic. Mary and I determined that we would send this rarity into PCGS, a top 3rd Party Grading Service, to get it professionally graded and slabbed. The coin came back Very Fine 35 (VF35), giving it a retail value of about $5,000. This was such a cool find. Something that almost never happens. The rare coins are rare for a reason – you don’t find them everywhere. The moral of the story though is that Mary showed unquestionable integrity with her customer. Where many dealers would have attempted to rip the customer off (buying this key date as a common $25 coin), she notified the customer of the find immediately and then worked diligently to maximize the customer’s value. I recently contacted Valley Goldmine to see about selling 3 rings that I no longer wear. I emailed to set an appointment and was promptly called back by Mary, who is the owner. She was incredibly helpful and very friendly. She went above and beyond to explain the process to me and went out of her way to set up an appointment and time that worked best with my schedule. Upon entering their offices I was greeted by the master gemologist - Michael. He was very professional and took me right back to his office. He explained, in detail, what he saw with my rings and also took the time to be honest about gold and gem prices. I was impressed by his honesty when he calculated the price of one of my rings, but then realized he had not added something correctly and it was actually a higher price. Since he had the information and I did not, a less honest person could have kept that information to themselves but he was quick to point out his mistake and give me my full price. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone who wants a fair, honest, and professional gold and gem buyer.

I first used Valley Goldmine when they did a gold buying party several years ago at my childrens preschool (as part of a fundraiser). I thought they were very fair and made the whole process easy. I have never sold jewelry before and I was dreading that I would have to go to some Pawn Shop in a old or bad part of town complete with the iron bars on the windows and doors, and a rent a cop for security.Going with my first impression, based on their website how they are not a Pawn Shop, but a very clean and easy to find office building in Chandler off of Cooper and Ray Road. I completed my appointment request form and provided a date a time that would work for me to meet.Mary almost immediately contacted me by cell and also followed up with an email that the time I wanted to me was no problem. I got my jewelry items, misc broken gold chains, earrings and some mens and womens ring, in a small shopping bag and meet with Mary at my scheduled time.Mary was prompt, friendly, very professional and knowledgeable as she went through my unwanted items. She explained each step as she examined each piece of jewelry and then performed a chemical test to determine that if the item was stamped 14k, that it was in fact 14k and at what percentage of gold and silver. There was one mens white gold diamond ring that I was not sure if I would sell as jewelry or sell it to Mary for melting. Mary provided honest answers to my questions and even provided a information sheet on how gemstones (diamonds) are graded and cut. After our discussion, I decided to go ahead and sell the ring to Mary since the dollar amount she offered was right up there if I have sold it as jewelry on a website such as Craigs list. I also did not want to deal with the hassle of having complete strangers come to my home and barter my asking price down.My appointment lasted about one hour and I was very happy with the amount of money I received for jewelry that I was not wearing anymore. To think that this stuff was just sitting in a jewelry box and a jewelry dresser tray not doing anything but collecting dust.
