This is another side-street find. Yes it is close to a number of other restaurants, but you have to be looking to find Cherries Diner.Do not expect your fancy chain style place with a standard menu. This place is small with a to-the-point menu. What you can expect is good food and decent portions. The inside is very dated, but the prices and food make up for the decor. If you are looking for a quick and tasty breakfast, give Cherries a shot.
GREAT PLACE! Theres literally one server, who does it all with class and elegance. Extremely friendly, and pleasant atmosphere. I recommend this place to everyone visiting the Pittsburgh, PA area. Worth the wait
Its an affordable diner in downtown Pittsburgh. As soon as you walk in the door, you can sit wherever youd like if theres a table available for you. The food is tasty, and the waitstaff is friendly.
1st visit. Ordered sausage omelet. Eggs fluffy, sausage had nice flavor. Coffee mild and smooth. Staff friendly, courteous and friendly. Pay at the register, tell them table number.
Took my daughter to lunch today, and she saw this place and wanted to try it. I got what truly may be the best burger Ive ever had. The fries were crispy but not hard or burned. My daughter got the cherry pancake and loved it. This place is easy to overlook with all the other options on Market Square. Its nothing fancy, but they have very good food with a friendly atmosphere. Im really glad we skipped all the more expensive places on the Square.
Food came out very fast and tasted even better than it looked, will definitely be stopping back when I’m back in the area ! My waiter was also the sweetest lady just made my morning ! :)
Love, love, love this diner especially for their waffles w/ cherries & whipped cream. The food is delicious & the service is great. Lori always has a smile & cant wait to take your order. Stop in & have a bite.. Im sure youll return to try the other meals . DE LI CIOUS
Went here since it was close to the hotel and due to staffing issues, they didn’t offer the breakfast that came with our stay. Despite the reviews, we tried it anyway….I agree with most of the previous negative reviews. The food was OK at best…the server and cook forgot my husband’s eggs twice and kept saying they were being made even though we had the rest of our food.🥴 The place is small but still should have more than one server in my opinion. Should have gone to McD’s
Loved that it was a smaller traditional diner but I wasnt happy with how my meal was prepared. I ordered the French toast with blueberries and whipped cream... the blueberries were just a blob of something that looked like jam on top of what looked like a flattened sub roll and there was way too much whipped topping.. this was my first time here so Im sure theres other things on the menu that are adequate I just wasnt happy with my particular dish
Asked locals for place to grab breakfast. Immediately said Cherries. Small place, family provides great service and food was really good. So glad we came here.
Great food and friendly service but too busy for only one person too take care of the whole room. Impossible to get a refill on coffee and slow checkout process
Ok. I’m born and raised yinzer, I’ve owned two restaurants and I’ve managed countless establishments and I’m a great big fat guy who loves to eat. Cheesesteak is best I’ve EVER HAD. Read that again. The best IVE EVER HAD. Don’t go in expecting some fancy shmancy, it’s a succinct establishment that rarely has a table open. They’re only open till 2pm. Meaning they don’t even need a full work day to sell food because that’s how much they crank out for breakfast and lunch. Go there. Or don’t and be disappointed elsewhere.
1st time there ; Really enjoyed it, good Rueben sandwich combos come with fries they were great
Super busy but worth the wait. Great food.
Great food at a good price. Highly recommend.
Food was good! Good portions...
I love eating at Cherries Diner it is where I want to eat out.
I usually have friendly service but today the cook wasnt trying to make my food inheard hom when I ordered it..then the lady that took our order was very rude..I havent been in there since last year and loved it now theres new ppl and they arent very friendly
Quick and simply no frills breakfast! Delicious.
My brother and I visit very frequently. Top notch menu items. Cleanliness is superb!!! Staff are caring and go out of way so that you have an enjoyable experience!!! 💖
Heard lots about the place. Decent food for a decent price. The overweight server with long hair was nice but a little slow. Sajad was awesome tho!!
Fast service, little pricey for a breakfast shop
Best diner ever!!1
Awesome place friendly staff
Nice place, long waits.
Friday for lunch this gem of a place makes a special very authentic Indian/Pakistani dish called chicken biryani. They also place on top pieces of tandoori spiced chicken on the bone. Comes with a generous side of raita (I always get an extra side as it is so tasty). Come hungry as they give you a huge portion. It also comes with a soda or bottled water. I have had many biryanis but this is the real deal. Has to be my favorite chicken biryani in Pittsburgh. Be sure to go early as they run out quickly 😃
Perfect for an inexpensive lunch or breakfast.
Delicious we will be back soon me and hubby
Great breakfast!
Clean a small place. Hopping with lots of DoorDash and UberEats drivers; but a tasty breakfast at a fair price.
They had me waiting 20 minutes then came and told me that they didnt have any chicken
Excellent breakfast platters
Great service. Cheap prices. TASTY FOOD.
Quite a nice, little, no frills, breakfast spot.
Good food at a great price...
I have been wanting some fresh hot yummy grits. Cherries did not disappoint. The serving was hearty, inexpensive and I was given plenty of salt and butter on the side! Thanks for a great start to the day!
Great food, great service. Only one waitress but does an amazing job. I highly recommend this place for breakfast and lunch. 5 stars all the way.... And a quick shout out to the waitress she does the work of 5 and is so nice even when she is swamped!!! :-)
This place is great. It was pretty busy when we arrived and stayed that way during our whole visit. They had one primary waitress, and she was running all over the place, but the service was still friendly, and our food came out pretty quick. The prices are great, and the food was delicious. Will definitely be back.
The Philly cheesesteak is delicious!
Food is cheap. But very good. Location is small and sometimes there is a quick wait. But its worth it. Its a little whole in the wall place. We went twice during our trip.
Great breakfast
I love this place. Their Breakfast is great.
My wife and I were in Pittsburgh for the first time and came across Cherries after our run. We decided to try it and were very pleased. The omelets were big and delicious and coffee was great. Love the small time diner feel. The waitress was brisk but got the job done and very attentive with making sure our breakfast was good and coffee stayed warm.
Fast, real food, reasonable.prices, but disappointing. Home fries were real, cut potatoes yet, without peppers, onions or taste. Invest in some Adobo, please! If this is Spanish type cooking, I expected better.
One of my favorite places for a diner breakfast. Eggs are flavorful and the coffee is strong and hot. Its my go to breakfast joint.
One of kind in the market square. Its known for its Friday Biriyani and chicken. They have both dine in and to go. It gets pretty busy on Fridays. The rice is not spicy, the combination with the tandoori chicken makes it unique.
Bad service, too long waited
I thought the food was pretty good. I only are there once for breakfast, but it was a pleasant trip. The customer service was good too. Nice friendly environment, but small. You have to get there early to get a table.
Really good food and rather humble. The food comes out hot, fresh, and delicious! Service is fast too. Our waitress did give some attitude and was rude at times.
Great😊
A small mom and pop place with good food and good service. I tried to drive to it from the Wyndham Geand and couldnt seem to get to it so I went back, parked my car and walked. So glad I made the short walk as the place was a delight.
Food was not prepared as I had asked yet was charged extra as if it had been. The waitress was curt with me in all verbal exchanges, Though she was very friendly and her tone amicable towards regular customers. I would not recommend this place.
Love the atmosphere. Got yelled at for sitting down to soon. Good breakfast omelet.
First time visit...always walked by this diner on my way to work..glad I stopped by this morning..my wife loved it as well..only wish I arrived earlier so I could finish my breakfast..work called...Great little diner..will definitely visit again!!
I love this place- its my breakfast before work almost everyday, and the food is good, the service is good, and my only complaint is not being able to get a table in time to eat before I need to punch in! The wait staff and cooks all know what one any, and it comes correctly and quickly, and its very reasonably priced.
Delicious Cherry 🍒 bomb pancakes
Got there about one, it wasnt busy. the service here is friendly. menu is like a place in san francisco i loved.
Little tight squeeze for my taste but food was really good! service was quick.
Great breakfast made quick and very reasonably priced! I will be back!
Great fast food. Biryani is delicious.Waitstaff is entertaining. All, in all, a good value.
3-4 times a week I eat here, the food is GREAT, service IMPECCABLE, Everyone knows my order by heart, I pretty much get the same thing all the time, LOVE LOVE CHERRIES!
A good, fast, and cheap breakfast spot in downtown Pittsburg. I just had eggs and toast -- not fancy but good and cheap. Its a refreshing change to the often-expensive downtown.
Retro-like greasy spoon serves up traditional breakfast fare. I like Cherries because the food is yummy, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is pleasantly chaotic/busy. Cherries breakfast is a high energy/satisfying start to the work day.
Great place for a quick bite to eat. Good food, quick service, and friendly people!
If youre looking for a mom and pop hole in the wall American/Mediterranean diner with great prices, this is the place. The Friday Chicken Special is amazing. I rarely eat dark meat but it smelled so good that I ordered it anyway. The seasoning was great, and the chicken and rice were very tender. The fries are also surprisingly good. The menu is great because everything is very inexpensive and they have such a variety. You can get regular diner food like eggs and homefries; halal food like gyros; and deli food like sandwiches and burgers. The atmosphere has a small town feel. You can see the chefs and cooks in the kitchen, and the wait staff give them feedback on how the customers enjoyed their meals. In the short time I was there, a lot of regulars came in and the staff knew them by name. Theyre certainly not the fanciest place but their customer loyalty is well deserved.
Food tasted good. The layout was tight. The waitress wasnt fully present, e.g. she automatically set up 4 place settings but only 3 waters. When asked for another, she replied we had water. If your sole goal is eat and get out, this place will work.
Fabulous stop for a quick breakfast and coffee! Great prices and a great meal. Would definitely recommend!
I love this place. The bestest food evere
Our food was served quickly, not very many options for breakfast.
I have always loved the food and their new location is much better, but the service is still HORRENDOUS. One waitress takes orders, buses tables and acts as the cashier. Many times the tables are not cleaned off between customers and you have to wait forever to order, and then to pay. It is far too much for only one person to do. It wouldnt cost all that much to hire one or two extra people and I am certain that they would increase their efficiency and make more money. The food is still worth bearing the service, but there are times that I skip on Cherries because of it.
Wonderful place, wonderful food, wonderful people! Would recommended to anyone.
Good food, good prices, good people. I can walk in at 8am and order lunch or 2pm and ask for pancakes. I theres not a single thing on their menu I dislike (yet).
The best home made food that Ive ever tasted besides its the second best grams is number one period
First time here, the cherry bomb was awesome, I recommend everyone in here
Great food reasonable price. Great staff.
I walked in and did not get as much as a hello, as the other guests did. I was in there alone for about 7 minutes before anyone else came in and sat down. 6 people got placemats, water, and silverware BEFORE I did. They also were greeted as well. I happen to look up and seen that there wasnt even as much as a glass of water prepared for me. I dont want to make it about race but it was pretty evident. I will never eat there again.
Large portions at reasonable price. Great coffee!
Food was fire definitely gonna double back
Cherries website says that it closes at 3p.m. on Saturdays. My friend and I arrived at 2:20p.m. and were told that we had come too late and were asked to leave. The lady working the cash register was extremely rude and my friend and I were insulted by the way she treated us. We quietly left but were appalled at the poor customer service. I would suggest that Cherries change their website hours to reflect the actual business hours so they dont lose two more customers.
Great food & service... Highly recommend this.
Came here on Saturday morning with my husband and one year old. They were understandably busy. Got seated in timely manner but could not get waited on. Multiple Customers that sat down after us were waited on before and got skipped twice. I know this a small place but ownership should either be more attentive to their customers or hire another waiter. Im sure this isnt the first time they were busy on a Saturday morning.
This restaurant had a very local and down to earth feel!
Excellent service. Flavorful food.
Ok so lets be clear. The food is good. Its fine. However, the main reason to eat here is the waitress. Now pay close attention to this. When you eat here do not get offended by the waitress busting her you know what. Sit down and enjoy the ambiance of an authentic, blue collar lady kicking butt in a small diner trying to make a living. Sit back smile and welcome to the Steel City!
Great food and great prices with friendly staff too. Very homey feeling in the middle of Market Square. I recommend it.
Our family of 5 had a nice breakfast here. Service was fast, food was good and the people were friendly.
Worst service I have ever seen. The lady working is very rude. Food is good though.
Fast, affordable, and great service.
Great small town feel, better come with a big appetite
Good food great price not generic now like home cooking. The waitress that some complain about is awesome she goes into hyper mode when its busy and can seem a little grumpy.
Good food. Quick.
The food was fine but Ive literally never waited so long between my order being taken and the food being brought out in my life. Considering there were about 8 employees working in such a small space it seems really odd that it was so slow.
Thats my breakfast spot. Great people over there and excellent traditional breakfast. Then off to work at Sinful Sweets
Loved it
