Found a used Martin OM-28 at a great price online with them, Raymond was helpful on the phone reassuring me on condition/quality, and after a simple online checkout the guitar arrived in pristine condition 2 days later. The packing and attention to detail were world class. Highly recommended!
From out of town and needed one piece of equipment that only this store had. In stock. Very knowledgeable about folk instruments, and plenty of banjos in stock. Stayed and talked with Steve for a long time. I don’t understand the snobby reviews that said he was rude. Those people need to find out what’s actually bothering them. Steve was nothing but helpful, thanks! I’ll be back for my banjo needs again!
Steve and Raymond are topnotch Gentlemen, I purchased my The Gibson mandolin calton case from them they were very courteous and speedy shipping, I must say this was the best service i recieved in a very long time,it was a pleasure doing business with them and i will do it again
Im thoroughly satisfied with my latest purchase of a Pisgah banjo from AMW. Steve was extremely helpful in making sure I got what I wanted from start to finish. Steve was able to add an armrest and railroad spikes per request and the finished product is perfect. It arrived carefully packed and Steve explained how to adjust the bridge that was put down for safety during shipping. Im loving my purchase and would recommend AMW to anyone looking for top-notch customer service.
Totally knowledgeable. Patient. Willing to help you to get exactly what you want, even if it takes you a goodly amount of time. Buy your guitar here!
I am a working drummer, new to the Squirrel Hill neighborhood, and was hoping to find a local shop, close by, to keep me from having to go to the dreaded Big Box, Poor Service national chain stores. Although they are primarily a stringed-instrument shop, they were more than happy to special order some basic necessities for me, such as sticks and drummers, and whatever else may come up. The guys I met were really cool, and helpful. Good conversation, good vibes. Two Thumbs Up for Steve and Randall!
While the store itself if meticulously well kept and offers a unique and high end selection of mainly acoustic stringed instruments, the staff on hand is belligerent, ignorant, and pompous.I’m a young guy, so the older men pacing the sales floor didn’t even so much as greet me as I entered. I browsed their selections and wasn’t offered assistance once through twenty minutes. Mind you, I’m the only potential customer on the floor and am eager to purchase a new acoustic guitar at any cost, so long as it’s to my liking. However after receiving no real advice or help from either associate after thirty minutes, I exited the store not to return. How this business is still running I don’t know.
Steve is extremely rude. Will never return!I want the owner of this store to know I never posted this! I have never been to Pennsylvania in my life! I will take this review down in a couple of days. I just want you to see this
Nice transaction from knowledgeable people who care more than any of the guitar-megalo-marts.And when i bought one they gave me a nice wool cap too... I will buy again.
Very nice folks, full of info, called from NC and asked some questions they were very easily answered and were very kind to not seem rushed or anything regardless of their closing hours being within 15 minutes of my phone call.
Although the staff is undoubtedly very knowledgable, I found them rude and aloof. A friend of mine described a similar experience, and for that reason neither of us will be returning. If you are not searching for a boutique guitar shop, there are many other Pittsburgh area stores that can offer advice and quality products
I called and purchased a nice Collings OM to be shipped to me out-of-state. AMW was first class all the way. They answered all my questions (of which I had many), and shipped it to me immediately. Just excellent service all the way around.
I took my guitar here for a repair, and my service was very good. They were good about giving me details about my situation, and how it related specifically to my model of guitar.
Ive never set foot inside this store but Ive talked to the proprietor on the phone a few times, and this guy is so pompous that I know Id never waste my time to make the 40 mile trip to his store. To start off, Acoustic Music Works is a high-end shop that sells very expensive stringed instruments. I had $1000 to spend so I called to see what they might have in my price range. I asked if they had any used Martin or Taylor guitars. He told me Martins and Taylors are all junk but they take them in on trade but he wouldnt recommend them. Now, Im aware that there is a lot of hype connected to those name brands but a lot of them are quite good. His answer should have been Yes, we have some Martins and Taylors in stock. You should come in and check them out. Then he tried to sell me on a $1000 Chinese-made Eastman guitar that he referred to as his student model. I looked it up online as we were talking. I told him that the Eastman had a wide neck and I have small hands and need a guitar with a slim neck. No you dont was his reply. Then he laid a rap on me that essentially came down to Im just stupid if I think I need a guitar with a slim neck. His answer should have been Well help you find something suitable for you. I mentioned the name brand of the Chinese-made mandolin I own, and made sure to throw in that its one of their higher-end models, for fear that he would berate me again. He insinuated that theyre all junk, and the higher-end ones are the same as the cheap ones, and the jokes on me. I know mandolins very well, and although mine is not the level of the $4500 pieces he sells, mine is all solid wood, plays well and has great tone and volume. I got lucky on this mandolin and I love it. Thats not possible in his little world. In conclusion, Acoustic Music Works is a snob store run by a real snob who cares nothing about someone who has $1000 to spend. He caters to folks who can afford anything, and he has the market cornered for that crowd since his is the only shop around that carries the ultra-expensive high-end stuff that most players cant afford. If youre a rich snob, youll probably love the place.
Really great selection. Pricey.
Great place, great instruments, great folks
