This place is a hidden gem in beautiful downtown Portland. Joe is a really nice and patient guy. Joe is genuine like the coins he sells. Joe gave me a really fair price and I couldnt be happier. Fair honest and respectful smart man. Good vibes all together. This place deserves 5 stars! π
We found a charming Sidney Lawrence Brackett painting listed and Joe was most gracious and professional in handling the transaction. It was a pleasure conducting business with him. Many thanks!
For those of you collecting gold and silver please talk to Joe at Stinson & Company, I ordered some uncirculated Benjamin Franklin 50 Cent pieces from him and these coins are SO pristine they look like they just rolled off the belt they are in brand new condition I highly recommend Joe as a very honest and reputable dealer in fine metals especially silver I was treated with a fair price expedited shipping and a kind thank you for my business I highly recommend Joe and Stinson & Company!!!
I dont visit pawn shops often, but I needed to sell something quickly that I couldnt sell elsewhere and off I went to several shops to get feedback. The team at Stinson was extremely honest and straightforward. I never felt like I was being taken advantage of and felt like they were always giving me all the information they had. I got a fair price for what I had and started using them for other second hand items Ive looked for. They are fair, honest and operate with integrity. Im super grateful I found these guys. I highly recommend them.
One of the coolest shops in Portland! They always have something for everyone. Rather it be: jewelry, antiques, musical instruments or collectibles, they have the BEST of the best! Joe is a wonderful man, & you truly couldnt ask for a more honest & fair person to do business with. My whole family does business with this establishment, & reccomend them highly. If I could give 5 stars on this review I would!
My husband and I have been regulars at Stinson & Co for a few years now. Joe is a very reasonable guy and has treated my husband and I with the utmost respect and the best customer service one could expect. Hes very knowledgeable and very fair on prices. We will not go anywhere else. If we have something to pawn, hes the guy we see. If we have coins, jewelry or rare items to sell or buy, again hes our guy ! Thanks Joe for the great experience of coming to your store !! Well be back soon !! Stay safe !!Linda and Joe Jackson
Great prices great owner just great all around!
Guy was very friendly and has very fair deals going here from now on.
A top notch emporium for rare and unusual collectibles operated by folks who are as honest as the day is long. You wont be disappointed!
They were very responsive and resolute in working out an issue with a guitar purchase. Joe was flexible, amicable, professional, and made sure I was happy with the transaction. Thanks for the quality customer service.
Very smart love able man running the show taught me cool things
I highly recommend this company to anybody interested in working with honest, fair, respectable people. They have an amazing selection of antiques too!! I have been going to Stinsonβs for my Pawn needs for just over a year now and Joe has always been very understanding of my situation. Joe gave me fair pricing for my items and worked with me when I needed an extra day or two. I will continue to take my business here for many years to come.
Excellent customer care & communication. It is a gorgeous bracelet and my wife loves it!!!. I look forward to doing future business. Thanks again for a pleasant transaction.
A high quality store with unique items and good vibes. The owner was very fair, honest, and pleasant to talk with. Had a wonderful experience, and highly recommend! π
Very professional service. I went in and exchanged some gold jewelry and did not feel any pressure from Joe at all. He was very cordial and even provided me with some education on how Pawn Shops work and even offered to give me names and addresses to other Pawn shops if I didnt think he was giving a fair price. Great experience from a down to earth local shop.
I had never even been inside of anything resembling a pawn shop before, and was prepared to be taken advantage of. I pleasantly found that I was completely off base with that assumption. I was looking to sell some jewelry that I never wear, and the man I spoke with explained to me clearly and honestly about why my items were worth what they were. I told him quite plainly that I had no idea about how to pawn things, and he couldve very easily seized on that to make a buck. He was honest, fair, and made me feel very comfortable. I will definitely be going back.
I am a long time Civil War collector and understand the value of certain items. When I went into Stinson and Co. e had no idea who I was. After receiving some offers and finalizing several deals with then I can tell you that this man pays a fair rate and runs his business with integrity. He genuinely cares about people and for that reason I will only go to him
Best pawn experience i have ever had. Wouldnt sell my gold to anyone else.
Joe runs a great business, very fair, friendly, and makes you feel comfortable. He is not like other pawn shops where they treat you like youre a nuisance. Have had a great experience everytime weve been in there. I suggest if youre in a jam and in need of cash this is the place to go. Joe offers the best rate and will do what he can to help. In my opinion youre wasting youre time by going to the other numerous seedy pawn shops that dont care about doing good business because they just want to scam you and get whatever they can from you. Thanks Joe youre the best in the biz!
Honest guy! Explained the diamond market to me and why stores like Kay and Jared rip you off. I will definitely go back for more advice.
Was super friendly very nice to talk with love the selection
Thank you Joe for a positive experience, highly recommend!
I was 1 of joes actual first customer when he opened up he has always been honest and not only will work with you but will give you the best prices around and oh yeah some actual history where his great stuff comes from all in all best pawn shop around
Mr. Stinson is not only a local celebrity (Pawn Stars) but an amazing guy to learn from. He has taught me so much this year since I stopped bringing my gold to Maine G&S (He pays wayyyy more and teaches you certain tricks while doing so) I will continue to bring my scrap metals and antiques to him because heβs s special guy that lives and loves what he does. Heβs not generic like 90% of the pawn shops in Maine. (Out for a buck and pays practically nothing) this is not what Mr. Stinson stands for and I love that about him. I didnβt want to write a novel but just a little story so people can stay as far away from Maine Gold and Coastal Pawn as possible.A couple weeks ago I brought 58 grams of 10k and 14k gold to Maine G&S and received $656.00. Three days ago I brought 41 grams of mixed scrap gold to Stinsons and received $900.00.Mr. Stinson has a customer in me for life and a student because of the love he has of educating his customers to the fullest so we can all make good money with whatβs kicking around the house.Anyways.... thanks again Mr. Stinson and thank you for teaching me about companies and overhead and how much more beneficial it is bringing items to Stinsons and not the other shops that pay percentages that are not even close to fair. So thank you for your knowledge and hospitality.
Unique store and friendly knowledgable staff. Go here for cool stuff and fair prices!
Gave 10k+ in LV handbags w/ boxes and receipts while suffering from a brain injury, honestly, I didnt understand how it all worked and not having had any experience with pawn shops I thought I did the right thing, with the right shop. I received 2,500. After suffering subsequent seizures, and a break down in my ability to process information I forgot about these bags. I found out they were sold after 3 months.. After contacting the BBB I found they had no obligation to call me, but I had no idea that something as valuable as the items I gave them wouldnt have warranted a simple call. It would have been the human thing to do, but pawn is a gritty world and his wife is probably walking around with my handbags. Had we been reminded they would have been repurchased by my family, who had to take over my financial affairs . A simple phone call or reminder from the owner, who knew my circumstance would have made all the difference in my experience. I even contacted other pawn shops who said they hold on to items for 1 year before selling them ~ as a precautionary measure. This guy seemed very sincere and honest but in the end his actions, or lack thereof, betrayed my faith. The right thing to do was to call but the value and rarity of these items made it too easy to overlook the right thing, not to mention the value to loan ratio was in his favor, and with no obligation to call, he did nothing wrong legally, but his actions speak against his trust me Im a good guy persona. My suggestion is... seek someone who will actually do the right thing, and not the seemingly nicest guy in the industry. While these things can be replaced, the value was in how and where they were purchased, the memories attached to them and the white glove care I gave them. They werent just about monetary value but about moments in a life before a accident that ended my 30 year career. I needed cash to carry me through until I got better, not knowing I would get much worse. I put a good faith deposit on a quick loan and in hindsight, as much as they meant to me. I now wish I had sold them because at least it would have better helped my family financially because as a single working mother, my children and I needed it more than this guy. He also didnt need to take all of the handbags, shouldve said, I dont need all these and knowing I was suffering from a brain injury ~ at the very least he could have called before the sold them. In the end no one has disappointed me more than this man because he talks a good talk but when it comes to doing the right thing, the human thing, he failed miserably. We have nothing good to say about them.
Ive been doing business with Joseph Stinson for years now, and he and the staff have always paid cash right away and been a pleasure to work with. Two thumbs up, a great Portland business.
Great place for a fair deal, knowledgeable staff. Very professional
Quality place, quality goods, would recommend to anyone.
I shopped my coin collection around and Stinsons offered the most. Very easy process and they paid cash.
