Its a decent store. If you need something, then that probably have it. Great for an emergency need. However, there is a sense that maybe the prices could be better. There are other stores in the Portland area that offer a good value, if not the convenience of being downtown. The staff is friendly and helpful. They are willing to go out of their way to help you if you need assistance. While not my favorite art supply store, I would still shop here.
Recently I have several giclee reprint works with Kimberly of the Custom Printing & Framing Department, and I find her extremely knowledgeable and responsive to serving customers. In general I have always had good experiences with Blick Arts Portland. Still, I find Kimberly to be exceptionally helpful.
Went in and try to get something printed. Didn’t know you needed an appointment spent 45 minutes trying to figure out printing details before they told me appointments were two weeks out. Staff was seemingly annoyed that I was trying to do business there. I’m probably not gonna shop there anymore unless I have to which is unlikely.
I was in PDX for a wedding/pregnancy celebration and mulling over the perfect gift. I had a vague idea of pulling together a DIY scrapbook of sorts as a gift, and an employee at Oblation (a high-end stationary store down the street) sent me to Blick so that I could wander a wider selection of what I was seeking save some money. The Blick employee, Holly, was super helpful and knowledgeable about store products. She walked me around to the relevant areas of the store and pointed out several useful items. While I perused one particular section, Holly brought me a few items she thought would be helpful. I ended up buying about half my supplies at Blick and half at Oblation, which was great for pulling together the perfect gift and saving money overall.
Walking into this store was a dream come true! I had to pinch myself to make sure I wasnt sleeping. I was so thrilled to have found a place that had just about everything I could imagine. Wonderful prices! So why bother to buy online with the extra shipping cost when you can by local?I purchased 4 tubes of watercolor paints and a metalic palette Ive had my eyes on for awhile. While I was shopping I had 3 associates ask me if I needed help. Now thats service!I was a little nervous with it being in downtown Portland in the Pearl District but NO problem the parking was right there next to the building. I totally recommend this place and will return everytime I want something art related. New customer!
Block is a great place. Nice and big, but not enough to get lost in. Very friendly staff, and nice hand sanitizer at the door instead of wipes. You can even have your receipt emailed to save paper. Go check it out!
Super cool art store. I dont think Ive ever seen so many art supplies in my life. They had anything I could think of and it was all for reasonable prices.
This was my first time going into the brick and mortar Blick here in Portland and it was a great experience. I have a fractured tibia right now and am using a wheelchair and the store was handicap accessible. All of the staff that we worked with were knowledgeable and really nice!
Very large store, knowledgeable, friendly, attentive staff. Definitely an icon for Portland art supplies.
Great assortment of different art supplies, Im too new and didnt see anything. But I will be back
Check the prices because sometimes the little price sticker is for a different nearby item. If you arent sure, ask. The decorative art paper is $$, and the prices are very rarely available where they should be. Decent, if not a bit pricey, place to get basic art supplies. Too much stuff up front near the registers, though, I was afraid Id knock something over.
Anything and everything you could ever want or need is here. This is my absolute favorite art supply store! I wish I could visit every single day! The people that work there are experienced and knowledgeable and really take their time explaining answers to your questions. They have the best prices Ive ever seen. They carry all of the artists grade high end supplies, all really affordable, as well as cheaper options. Their rewards card gives you such great deals! You can sample many of the products in store as well. I suggest you go somewhat early in the day because you have to find parking for this location on the street (bring change, cash, or card for the parking meters).
Intro -I originally first visited this place just to check it out. I ended up spending $30 and becoming a preferred customer.Merchandise -An absolutely ridiculous amount of stuff to see here. Tons of paints, markers, pencils, pens, canvases, cases, stands, frames, air brushes, all that stuff. If you need an art material of any kind, you can safely bet Blick has it.Service -Employees are friendly and knowledgeable. One of the few places I can say the employees are outstandingly good at their service.Atmosphere -Very cramped/dense. The store itself is pretty small in terms of area, but its got so much stuff to choose from. Not a big deal, but it would be a good idea for this branch to expand or relocate. You can see examples of this in the photographs I added to this review.Cost -A tad expensive, but worth it. I purchased two high-quality brushes and a pallet and used them for most of a cosplay project I made, and the brushes performed very well and held up great. You can also become a preferred customer and theyll e-mail you every time a new sale goes up, and those sales are usually good.Summary -If you dont mind driving through the downtown area and want to get your hands on some good art materials and such, then definitely come here. This store is just awesome.
Shout out to Mackenzie at Blick. She was extremely helpful and nice. Showed me exactly what I was looking for and even gave me multiple different options. Very knowledgeable and I definitely will go back because of her
Brought my mom to the downtown store to buy gifts for family members who are budding artists. The staff, and specifically Jobe, were very helpful selecting appropriate material to make a marker sketching starter kit and helping us find all manner of items from a wish-list. My moms experience online getting comparable materials for an art class when the school book store was back-ordered due to the pandemic was similarly good. Ive always found the staff helpful and knowledgeable.
Theres blick artists prismacolor & holbein artists (150 set) colored pencils they have everything.👍🏻
Absolutely adore this place, I buy a lot of my art supplies here
This is the go-to place for art supplies in Portland. Lots of selection for practically any project you might have in mind, with very friendly helpful staff and competitive pricing, especially for the house brand, which is high quality. Its a really fun place to pick up what you need, or just to wander around and imagine new possibilities!
WOW! Shout out to Alyssa for her five star service and going above and beyond to assist me with compiling my order! I needed materials for a design course, and was going to be quickly passing through Portland, so I emailed the store my supplies list and photo references from class, and Alyssa went above and beyond to coordinate. She provided alternates where able and answered all my detailed questions. When I arrived for pickup, the items were neatly organized behind the register, and she had even so kindly signed me up for the rewards program, which saved me a significant amount! Thank you Alyssa, thank you Blick Pearl District!
Good selection of what I got. I am Thoroughly impressed by their selections.
I’ve been a Blick customer for more than 10 years( mostly at the Blick Store in Beaverton). I decided to check the Blick store this part of town and this is the FIRST time I’ve been profiled because I took my time to look at Art supplies and the guard was very rude to my partner and myself. As a manager in my industry myself, I understand loss prevention rules that make retail employees be cautious of theft including customers that take more than hour in the store. Nevertheless, if a customer that looks and even ask you where your products are like( Faber Castell), you DON’T need to send your guards of employees every 3 minutes asking you why you’re in the store. This was a very uncomfortable situation and as a person of color, I felt profiled because the person in the same aisle next to me weren’t being harassed with questions by retail associated about what they were buying. If you do not want to be profiled DO NOT BUY at this Blick!
Good store great staff a little bit pricey but thats to be expected when youre downtown
Friendly staff helped me find what I was looking for. If you join their membership club you get their online prices. Clean store with good selection. Will come again.
I love this store. Thank goodness they changed their security ways. I had been shopping there for awhile when one day this woman walked up to me and literally snatched pens out of my hand without identifying herself. Creepy. She followed me around the entire shopping trip. I wasnt going to go back. But Im happy I did. The security woman who wears a uniform is a beautiful cheerful and helpful person. The staff is wonderful and helpful and very friendly. Store is clean and comfortable to shop in now that the security area has been fixed.
The store was conveniently located and had almost everything you could possibly want as far art supplies go. The staff were friendly and helpful, over Im satisfied with my shopping experience and the art supplies I bought.
Huge store, easy to find, ramp access, knowledgeable staff.
If you are the kind of person who appreciates a really good pencil, or could spend hours perusing mysterious painting supplies, this is your place.
Elgin in the Portland store is the best. He helped me find the oil painting supplies I wanted and hurried over to help me pay when I was carrying a heavy load of paper and other things. I hope he’s a manager!!
Great selection. Helpful staff. Price competitive.
Every time I enter the store I get a warm hello like they really mean it. They usually have such good deals that I can walk out with items I needed at reduced pricing. I really like this store and the customer service is great. Never a question if I have to return something-which has happened rarely-they help you with a smile. As you can tell, I recommend these guys (and girls) highly. At least try them out!
Love this place! They had everything I needed and helped me day dream about new projects.
Staff is helpful, friendly, and knowledgeable. And anything you could ever want is there!
On their site they mention this about their customer service standards “we pride ourselves on offering the best customer service in the industry.” I also noticed that they don’t provide any clear information about the in store covid policies. My wife and I just visited your Portland location in the pearl district and were kept from entering because our 2 year old can WALK! That is what the front door person said, he said if they walk they have to wear a mask! A 2 year old baby, we had to stuff our 2 year old into the storage compartment of our stroller which had our infant on top, too cold to wait outside and too fussy to be held. Would’ve just left if it wasn’t for the fact we went into town specifically for this one frame we ended up buying. This is the most unscientific ridiculous thing we’ve experienced since this started. So by this same logic you would prohibit a blind person from entering if their service dog wasn’t wearing a mask because it can walk? To top it off, when I questioned the absurd policy the front door person said “You should vote for Trump!” They assumed that because we questioned the completely unscientific policy that we questioned it for political reasons and not because it is impossibly to make a 2 year old comply, the same way a service animal wouldn’t be able to, they get more rights that a 2 year old human. Shame on you.
Really cool store, lots of neat art stuff, and good prices on most of it. Employees do their jobs well, almost to a fault. Was contacted and asked if I needed help finding anything so frequently, by so many staff members, that it became clear pretty quick they thought that my GF and I were there to steal. Most likely cuz we had backpacks on, that I asked if theyd like us to leave them up front and was told we were fine. Over all a great place. Just didnt enjoy feeling like I was being stared at the whole time by the employees.
The staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Blick has just heard right tool for the job at hand.
Fav. Arts supply downtown. Employees are very knowledgeable and always willing to help in any way they can.
Grrat place 💞
Totally the best art store with the lowest prices and a huge range of selections. Great store!
Wish I could give them at least 6 stars. Amazing art store for the professional through the beginner. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable. Always worth a browsing trip for fun and inspiration.
This is the only shop where I go to when in Portland. They have everything that an artist need and amazing discounts for students. Don’t forget to ask for their rewards card. It can save you hundreds in art materials. And one more thing, the staff here is the best. They know how to help customers and they also refer you to other places if they don’t have what you need. Best art and craft store in PDX.
The best art supply store in town. The staff are so helpful + patient + knowledgeable. Theyve helped me pick out gifts for friends + colleagues without ever making me feel rushed. Their selection is unmatched.
One of the best craft stores Ive been too. High end materials blow Craft Warehouse and Michaels out of the water. If youre a fine artist or Graphic designer, Blick is your one stop shop in Portland. Cannot stress more about how wonderful it is and how hard it is not to blow a paycheck here.
Blick is such a great resource! Anytime I have gone in looking for something in particular staff has been super helpful and knowledgeable about different products. This store has a lot that is carried in stock and if not they are always helpful about checking if it can be ordered online. Overall it is a dependable art store to get what you need when you need it.
Has pretty much everything youd need in a relatively large space. The staff was all young and was extremely friendly and helpful. The prices were a little high I guess but thats what you expect at this type of store.
Love this place but,,... Very confusing with the prices always a challenge to find out the price of every item.
Great assortment of art materials. They price match and its a very inviting atmosphere. Staff is helpful and knowledgeable if youre getting started.
They always have what I need there. Love the srores..
Employees are kind and help without hesitation. Great personal protection for the pandemic. There is a reason I go to blick over any other craft and hobby supply store. Its obvious they treat their employees like they matter by the way they all act.
I wish I had the money to spend in there but I am still not receiving the better benefit amount!
I love this store, and could literally spend days here looking at all the wonderful art supplies. (Ive already spent multiple hours perusing their shelves...) It is probably the most complete art supplies store Ive ever been in. The advertised specials and the clearance prices are typically alright, but the prices are just a little high for me. I wish I was a rich girl so I could spend all the money Id like to here.
Good service and materials.
High quality product, wide range of art supplies by type and cost, they frequently do sales, and most importantly they have knowledgeable and helpful staff. If you know exactly what you want, the store is very well organized so it’s easy to find just what you’re looking for. For me however, I work in several mediums so projects require a lot of walking up and down aisles as I work through in my head how I want a piece to look. While Im doing this, I may also remember that one of my many hand-me-down supplies is missing a piece, such as a French easel with a missing palette and top clamp. I imagine that this wandering looks sketchy because it’s common for the staff to follow me around the store. This last time, a supervisor directly asked me if I was going to pay for the product I was holding. I don’t fault them for this, it just makes me rush the process and I may not find just what I’m looking for. My recommendation for anyone like me, is to give your credit card to the front desk and let them know what you’re needing to do. They may ask if you want help, but how can you describe a piece that you havent thought of yet? A positive I guess is that there is always someone around for when you do need something weird like, some additive that makes the paint look rough.
The framing team needs a shout-out so loud!! Especially the man, the legend, the Dan! Thank you for your friendliness and helpfulness - the framing of my art worked out great! Will be back soon. Cheers Blick ✨
My only art shopI look and search but no one does it better for the best price. I know Ive spent thousands here. Good knowledge and service. Excellent product selection. Perfect for me
Vast inventory, helpful employees.
Somehow just being in this store inspires my artistic side. Always easy to find helpful and knowledgeable staff to help with whatever you need. Love that its in my neighborhood
I love Blick for ALL of my art supplies and great ideas for new crafts too!! They are very friendly there & can help with any questions you may have!! So many wonderful things to choose from!!!!!
I love Art Stix for drawing, and found tons of them here. At the cash, the employee asked me if I had a loyalty card. I did not. I explained I was visiting Portland from out of town. He still managed to give me a loyalty discount -- I dont know how. It saved me roughly $20. Great store, great people, great art supplies.
Blick has really good art supplies. Ive always known them to have massive selections and excellent prices. You can go in this store or you can order online. They have paints, pencils, pastels, tools, i think even clay sculpting tools. Oils, acrylics, all for very low prices and all high quality. They got some of the best connections 😎⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The people who work here are absolutely awesome. We had our hands full of frames and they set them aside behind the counter for us. They also brought us a shopping basket. So attentive and courteous! All the stars!
This is by far the best place to go if you need any kinds of arts and crafts stuff. From notebooks to paper to pencils to paint. I came here originally looking for led for my 0.3 led pencil that no one else had but them anf left also with the more adorable notebook for my story ideas. I love this place. They are helpful and nice and just the perfect place for creative people.
This is worst place possible to get any art supplies. Customer service is absolutely terrible ie (Jackson plus coworkers). Check out the one star reviews and read through the truth about blick... I used to support this business but yet another store falls to the terrible customer service category after Covid...
They have anything art that you could possibly need and if by chance they end up not having something you may want they give excellent suggestions on where to locate things. They can also help get you the right materials for specific projects!
Everyone here is really helpful and they are always kind. The selection is expansive, the services offered are thorough, and the staff is knowledgeable. They have frequently featured local artists’ work. The blick brand has always been comparable to other brands, in my experience. I only wish the aisles were slightly bigger and that there was a location on the east side.
Worst Shopping Experience Possible. One star was a compliment to the unprofessional rude and assumption driven staff. Apparently looking around in there store is not how your supposed to shop. I wonder if being attacked and pressured to shop in certain areas marked clearance is there store policy or just when profiling a 35-41yr old clean cut freshly shaven white male who had brought is gal friend down to do some shopping. Next is Yelp and whatever other review site I can find followed by a call to the corporate office.DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS STORE.
Selection is amazing but prices are up there and employees are not very nice
Best overall art supply spot Ive found in Portland, with food prices as well as helpful and friendly staff. I wish they stocked a little more from their online store but I understand its difficult to have it all!
Nice big store with a great selection of supplies for every creative project imaginable. Good range of products for beginners to professional artists.
Busy, but they have a good selection
I really wish I had a Blick closer to home in Oklahoma, they have everything. Some things are priced a bit high, but thats the cost of this kind of selection at a brick and mortar - totally worth it in my opinion. Staff was kind and helpful.
Pretty expansive selection of decent art materials and services. They seem like high end products to me, but Im a graphic designer so my expertise on painting products is sort of shallow. Good store, I do with they labled the isles with more than just numbers
Its an art supply store. While it seems to be stocked primarily for painters there are other supplies there as well.It is well stocked and clean. Staff is helpful and I was asked by several staff if I needed help while I was there.
Its a joy to hangout and chat with these people. Excellent help and problem solving. Plenty of creative minds here...and always good conversation! Thanks Blickszians!
Wide variety of art supplies here at good prices, especially when you shop sales. It would be nice if there was a parking lot, but it’s not too hard to get street parking nearby. The staff is friendly and helpful, though I did get the impression they were a bit nervous that my friend and I were going to shoplift with the number of times they came by to ask if we needed help finding anything as we browsed. I’ll definitely be shopping here again, and love having a physical blick store locally. Shopping online for art supplies just isn’t the same.
Went looking for archival storage for my photos that I get done in 8x12 prints. Found the Storage aisle and, got 2 Itoya Art Portfolio books. They are 9x12 on the pages but, thats fine. Could easily have spent an hour looking around, a good thing, to find other items on my future supplies list. Kudos all the way around.
Customer service was so so. They told me where things were at but did not physically show me where they were in the store. It was easier to call first and find out if they had the products I needed then to go into the store and look for it on my own, without any help from the employees who stood at the cash register and pointed me in the right direction but were not very Hands-On with their help.
Its a great place with great people. Has a lot of art supplies for a myriad of mediums and has some unique and fun gifts.
Has everything you need for art! Very friendly & informed staff. When I first started painting, one person gave a whole array of tips & suggestions for a beginner.
Although I dont come quite as often, because its downtown it is always worth the trip. Great deals and friendly, helpful, knowledgeable staff. I never have to go searching for someone to help. They have good product choices and they offer student discounts plus will beat other published prices. I probably should come more often!
Good selection, good prices, helpful staff. Its a DickBlick art store. What more do you want? Ive never been treated poorly, they give artists jobs, and I still feel weird shopping here. I saw Art Media fall down, and then Utrecht got absorbed. It felt like they were the only option for awhile. Portland is changing and while I can be nostalgic for the past, I must acknowledge that the present is different. Its actually nice to recognize staff from the other stores. I hope it is alright working there.Great selection of paper, pens, and inks.
Elgin Purple Lover was the BEST! Great store!!
I really love this store! The staff are all personable, know what theyre talking about, and if they dont, they get someone who does. And the security guards are amazing too lol. The store is always clean, well lit, and organized. And the signs are generally enough to find what you need. I cant speak for the corprate side of it but I think this store deserves your business.
So heres the thing, wonderful place for arts and craft related things. But, being constantly watched, profiled, assumed, etc... kills the enjoyment. I understand they might have been victims to profit loss because of theft. But cmon you cant treat everyone as a potential thief guys! 👎
Huge selection, but narrow aisles may make some people uncomfortable if they have social anxiety issues. They also required that I hand them my product to be brought to the front desk (airbrush MAC) and sign up for a loyalty card to get an online price match. However its not, they charge you shipping and handling for the transaction so what shouldve been a 20 dollar purchase was 25 dollars. No other small stores I know, or go to, even charge you shipping and handling if you order items through them.
I love the store, Ive been collecting some little stuff animals for a special person, and they have them all so I was going here until I collected them all. And then Ive noticed some other things Ive needed, and was able to purchase those items as well. All and all its a great store, and I was treated very well, being a person of color. Thank you for your service.
Had a great conversation with the clerk. Store is clean and the music wasnt too loud
Blick is a good art store carrying almost everything youll need. They try to have a range of quality, from not good quality but cheap to medium quality and reasonable, to expensive and good quality. There are instances where theres only one of a kind, like the Jullian art boards are the only kind they had when I went in last, and Im not a fan of this line, but you can only pack so much into a space, so Im sure decisions have to be made to cut something out at some point, and Jullian is a middle-of-the-road brand. The staff are helpful and there are a lot of people working during busy times.
My 1st visit - not there for anything challenging and was in a hurry, so cant comment on the depth/breadth of what they offer. However the vibe is very good - friendly, helpful and fun staff
Fun place to check out all the different types of paint and fun crafty things. Every time I come to Portland this is a must go stop!
Me: Im looking for Venice turpentine.Customer Service Person: Is that a brand name?Me: No, its a pretty widely known form of turpentine.Customer Service Person: Forgive me for not knowing everything. [Stomping away]Numbskull at the Register: Yeah, we cant know everything.Me: Im out. You guys have a wonderful evening.Customer. Lost. Forever.
Staff are so helpful, & when I couldnt find exactly what I needed for my art project, they told me to head to the Ace hardware store up the road for something more appropriate & cheaper, & she kept the stuff I was intending to buy behind the counter with my name in case I had to come back.Blick is a decent store, as cashiers do a web check to make sure they are the cheapest.
Amazing people, amazing selection. They let you browse, will answer questions, and will go out of their way to price check, help you find what you need, tell you about upcoming sales, and oh-so-much-more. You might need to be patient in line, but personally, Id rather excellent customer service than speed. (I can exercise time management skills, but I cant make anyone provide kindness, respect, and support - excellent customer service skills - like you find here.) All this to say... their customer service is unbeatable for what I typically get in other places. Absolutely love this place. Hands down.
