Probably the best of the quirky gift shops along Hawthorne, Presents of Mind is a bit like the TARDIS: its bigger on the inside than it looks, and filled with a seemingly endless array of odds and ends collected from the far corners of the universe.Where this shop stands out above the rest is its stellar selection of items made in the PNW. Everything from clothes, glassware, greeting cards and more, these homegrown handicrafts bear the monograms and logos of local artists, studios and manufacturers. Theres a feeling of quality craftsmanship and care in the selection of these items; a feeling which pervades the rest of the wares chosen to stock the shelves of this gift shop, even if the same items can be found elsewhere. Someone with a discerning and tasteful eye handpicked this collection of gifts, that seems to have something for just about everyone.You wont find nearly as many jokes-as-products items here, as you would at the nearby Memento PDX. But if you want to give the impression that you put more thought into your gift selection than simply grabbing whatever made you laugh, then dont buy on impulse; have the Presents of Mind to shop here instead!

My parents have had a business in the area for nearly 20 years and Presents of Mind has been a place I’ve been coming to for at least a decade. All the little knick knacks are so great. This is my favorite place to come pick up gifts and they also have some of the best cards ever. The service is also super friendly each time I come in and their conversation is great.

Super cute and tons of stickers, puzzles, jewelry, cards, etc. One of the few gift shops Id be interested in actually buying something. Probably nothing you need but everything you want.

This is a really nice shop. A lot of places I feel have a lot of nice looking stuff, but not much that Id really care to buy/recieve, and overall a whole lot of showy stuff that isnt that great. Not the case here. Presents of Mind is chock full of good stuff, and is my go to place for cards, small gifts, wrapping, and the like. Notebooks and that sort of thing too. As someone who likes to send a lot of letters/cards, I really appreciate their selection of blank, general use cards.

Walk in and you hear a welcome greeting from a staff member. I love this little gem of a gift shop. Need a greeting card? What a fabulous selection for every occasion. LOTS of humor, and a great selection of blank cards with photos or art of our city and its surroundings, as well as funny photos, art, and cartoons, and beauty of scenery and flowers. So I never walk away without the perfect card. Want to wrap and gift or a great gift bag? Its there, Want cute things from t-shirts to onesies for a baby? Go to Presents of Mind. Want funny trinkets, a journal, sealing wax, marvelous socks, great purses, and some gifts items of clothing? Its all there. How about unique and really nice jewelry? Its there. Seasonal items for all holidays? Unique ones? Theyre there. I love the store and the people.

They have a great selection of unique cards and gifts. I always shop here for gift cards and it’s always hard to resist also getting a T-shirt. I appreciate being able to find lgbtq+ appropriate gift cards, too!

I live in the Hawthorne neighborhood and Presents of Mind is my ‘go to’ whenever I need a unique card or gift or creative wrapping paper to make my gift extra special. I especially love their baby clothes and that the folks working there are consistently friendly and helpful. Thank you POM for serving our neighborhood so well and for so many years.

The minute I walk Presents of Mind my heart smiles. There so many things to look at and shop for. Theres a gift for all ages and personalities. Its got a great vibe. You could tell the owner puts so much compassion into the business.

I love this store! I grew up down the street from it, and have wonderful memories of walking there for toys and stickers. I was in town recently and visited. Its exactly the same as I remembered! Very friendly staff, and lots of interesting things for sale. I highly reccomend stopping by!

I have been shopping at Presents of Mind since it opened, many years ago. It is a wonderful, fun store where I have always found the perfect gifts and cards for any occasion. The owner and staff are exemplary, and active members of our community - none better!! ♥️♥️♥️

Wonderful store super helpful staff

As an advocate of small business and shopping local at first look I thought this store might have been an interesting find. Was shopping with my father and sister on our annual holiday trip and I insisted we take a peek. The service was lackluster - wasn’t offered a greeting or a “hello” but more of a half-efforted nod from the woman at the register. My father and I found items for purchase, again the point of sale seemed disingenuous and unfriendly, but were happy with our selections nonetheless. While my sister continued to shop I couldn’t help but observe that the treatment of other customers was remarkably superior to what we received entering AND at point of purchase. Just an observation. After exiting the store - and now already three blocks away we we discovered we had been pursued by one of the shop attendants making strong implications that my sister had stolen a ring from the store. Completely embarrassed and ashamed (as we were in a public space), my sister automatically volunteered her fingers and pockets for inspection while repeatedly sharing she doesn’t have it (now suppressing tears because of the humiliation). I had to step in and clarify exactly what the shop person’s accusations were and she then began to back track her claims of theft when I began to record on my iPhone her now changing responses. She retreated back to the shop as it was 100% clear it was a false accusation and misjudgment (I assume racially motivated based on our first entrance into the store - remind you we were purchasing customers too). It’s sad to see a local, small business treat any customer with a low level of service and then still find a way to embarrass, harass and humiliate them even after they leave. When playing back the recording of the incident, no apology was even made for the store’s error and lack of respect to my sister. If zero stars was a rating, this is what they deserve.

This store is packed with just about any perfect present for any person in your life. Yet somehow I inevitably end up shopping for myself there.... Beautiful jewelry by local and more far flung artists, cards for every occasion, clever shirts, pins galore, etc. Etc. You have to see it to believe it. Staff is always super friendly and helpful.

Presents of Mind is my go-to gift shop! Literally have walked in with a list of people I need to buy holiday gifts for and the staff will assist me in selecting lovely gifts for each person. There is something for everyone, even that relative who “has it all” and there is something at every price point. I visit gift shops in every town/country I travel to and none compare to Presents of Mind.

I moved to Portland in 95 and have been shopping at this store ever since. I love it! The jewelry, the housewares, the soap, the dresses!!! I cant get enough. The employees are always helpful and I like supporting a locally owned business.

Presents of mind a really cute little shop. A great variety of goods and lots of cute little things. The staff for the most part is pretty friendly although last time I was there a lady who worked there accused me of stealing something I had just paid for but whatever... Not a totally terrible experience I guess. Easy to find a cute or funny gift for someone. I love shopping local and they have a lot of local products as well.. Id recommend going!

Ive heard a lot about this store from friends and finally had the chance to come in recently. My dad and brother were in town, so I brought them with me and they both purchased items - we loved the store and wanted to support a local business. Once we left and were already a bit down the street, we were approached by a worker who said they believed I walked out with a ring (I did try some in store, but didnt purchase any). I held up my hands to show that I didnt, but then they directly asked me if I took a ring because one was missing and they couldnt find it. I answered no again, so my brother asked if she was accusing me of shoplifting because it felt like she didnt believe me at all. She answered by sharing a story about how she mistakenly walked out with a ring one time when she was shopping herself elsewhere. While I completely understand that theft is harder to monitor in small businesses (my family owned a small business for 10 years, so I get it), I feel the situation could have been handled better. I did not appreciate being approached and accused in public once I had already left the store, and it left a bad taste in my mouth. I truly wanted to love this store because I enjoyed the selection they have, but Im not sure Ill be back after that experience. I hope other shoppers dont go through what I did after visiting.

Presents of Mind is a Hawthorne staple for good reason, they have great taste in what they stock. My wife always scores the cutest dresses there too. Recommended!

Great stuff here. I picked up some greeting cards, some trinkets and an awesome t-shirt! Everything is priced really well... the employees are respectful and chill. I will definitely be stopping by here when Im in the hood.

My go-to place for gifts for years and then I moved out of the neighborhood. Went back the other day to browse and knocked out TWO holiday gifts in nothin flat. So glad that they have not changed in the over 15 years I have been shopping there (except for the addition of some really excellently curated - and affordable- dresses). I will be headed back before the holidays to see new stock and just enjoy the fun atmosphere.

Youre house is so trendy said my little nephew when he visited recently. I asked why and he pointed out all the funny little quirky items Ive purchased (or received as gifts) from Presents of Mind on Hawthorne. There you have it - from a little person, the best place in town for trendy (and quirky) gifts is Presents of Mind. They also have the best ever greeting cards and jewelry. I especially love that they have a large variety of items from local artisans.

If I could choose only one place to shop for the rest of my life, it would probably be Presents of Mind. They have a great selection of quirky gifts, paper goods, apparel, and gorgeous jewelry. A great deal of their products are locally made! Its a rather small store, but one could easily spend hours looking at all the neat stuff!

A crammed little shop with so many miscellaneous, well-read goodies to explore. Their greeting card selection is excellent (although a little spendy). But $5 is totally worth it to bring a smile to someones face and support artists. Love yo come here for gifts and for browsing.
