Extremely knowledgeable staff and very helpful. Definitely a one stop shop for anything local in Maine amongst there brewing scene. I easily spent over $150 within five minutes as they quickly knew exactly where to find their selections. Things they didnt have they had an actual schedule for when they where expecting a delivery or tentative arrival.If youre looking for something particular and ask them nicely there is a strong chance they will be able to hold things for you as well!Their selections of beer each have a very descriptive card accompanying. This includes a flavor index, their personal thoughts and tastes, and many other useful information.Seriously if youre looking for a great selection of beer pop in and you wont be disappointed!

It was my first time there. I was amazed at the selection of beers especially Maine beers but I have to admit (and I dont blame the Bier Cellar) that I cant believe they want $18 for a four pack of cans. It makes me incredulous I think, or at least a bit more jaded. I felt like I lost just a little bit of innocence that day. Anyway, I was forced by inclination to head to the rums where I bumped into an amazing employee/owner? I dont know, I didnt bring my good glasses so I couldnt read his name tag. I told him I was looking for Jamaican rum and he proceeded to point out five or six spread out through the whole aisle. This person (notice I didnt say man)was extremely knowledgeable and I will be back. Oh, yes I will be back.

One of the best, if not the best, beer store in New England. The online ordering is so easy and nice to have. The inside of the store is also very well organized with descriptions of almost every beer on the shelf. I live 2.5 hours away and can place an order online then pick it up anytime after the fact even if its a couple months out. They have every good micro brewery that I can think of on their shelves at any given moment. I use their website to see whats new even if Im not ordering. My only tiny nitpick would be I wish they had more beverage coolers and kept more beers refrigerated. I really cant recommend this place enough to everyone!!

Came in to buy a lot of craft beer and the guy working their decided the male customer, who came in after me, was worth more of his time than I was. It wasnt until I expressed my discontent with his choice of who he was going to serve, that he finally helped me finish my order. Very disappointed. Would not recommend going there if youre a woman.

A must visit place if you are in Portland and are in hurry or not. They have the pulse on local brews. The staff is really helpful and the collection of beers is astounding.You will find beers from all the local breweries and some of them are hidden gems. And the best part is you can mix and match your beers!

The main advantage to this place is that you dont have to go brewery to brewery to get all the different beers. You can stock a pretty robust fridge of craft beers with this place.However, they dont by any means carry a full brewers selection. Some they have better stocked than others (foundation stood out) and theyre at the whim of the brewers, so I cant assign too much fault to the bier cellar. If you know exactly what you want, youre often better off going to the source because availability here can be a little bit of a game of chance. At the end of the day, theres so much to choose from, its a good excuse to try something new.

One of the best beer selections Ive seen in Maine. The staff is friendly and always seem to want to help. They have a wide selection of both domestic and European beers. Most, if not all, the domestics are local. I would prefer a stronger bias towards the Europeans but Portland has always preferred Belgian-style over actual Belgian beer, so I guess its too be expected.Surprisingly, wine and cider occupy as much floor space as beer.

Ive travelled many places for work always looking for clean shops that offer good selection of fresh, local beers. This place has it for Portland, ME. Gary was very knowledgeable and helpful in selection of what I was looking for. I will put this on my must visit list every time I come back to the area!

Great spot with helpful staff and a great selection of well sourced beers. Tons of great local stuff and some of the best national selections available. If downtown, definitely should stop by and check it out for yourself.

The selection was really great. The sections of the store were well outlined by the area /state they came from. The staff was helpful but not in your face. The prices were a bit high for what Ive seen in other bottle shops in the area. Worth a pop in if youre looking for something in particular or some guidance.

Dont bother with this place, the selection is good...but its expensive and the guy working is rude. Go to RSVP or Friendly Discount instead...they both offer a better selection and cheaper prices. Read on for the explanation.Went to bier cellar for the 1st time on 1/24/17 to get some good beer...some guy named Colin M. was working.I picked up a 4-pack of Marshall Wharf and as I went to put the beer back down, one of the cans popped out of the plastic 4-pack ring. I dont think the can was properly snapped into the ring, it literally just popped out. Definitely wouldnt be the first time something like that has happened.When the can hit the ground it started leaking...so I put my finger over the hole to try and minimize the mess and quickly brought it to the guy working. He then brought the beer to the back to throw it out.When he came back to the front, he immediately told me I was going to pay for that beer. His words were Do you want to buy the last three? Because youre definitely buying that one.So, I paid for the beer and left. I didnt bother arguing...its five dollars, not really worth my time. But Ill never buy anything there again...and Ill make sure to tell my friends the same.

The staff are incredibly knowledgable, and the selection for local beer is unmatched. They get small releases that other bigger stores dont. I cannot recommend them enough for both local and international beer. I am not a wine drinker but their selection there is robust as well. Theres also a section for gluten free (ciders and GF beer) that is larger than most other stores that sell beer. Greg and his staff are excellently trained and can even help you pick something out.

Called to inquire about wine tastings. Gentleman on the phone was rude, abrupt and a liar. He stated it was illegal to do wine tastings (meaning he doesnt have the licence not illegal) mentioned it must be do to not having a certain liscence for this? He rudely repeated himself stating it was illegal in the state of Maine. I again stated that it must be different for different establishments since Ive done 8-9 tastings throughout Maine. Typically $5-6 dollars for 4 one ounce pours. He then hung up on me! Wont step foot in this establishment!

Its worth the hour trip to get great beers I cant seem to find anywhere else. So many gems and the staff is fantastic.
