They dont care about ripping off loyal customers, used to love this place but now we cant stand to even drive by. Paid $40 for some furniture when we got our new place, ended up having car problems and could no longer pick it up the weekend we planned to. Talked to someone and told them to just sell it and we were told to come in and get our refund when we could. Drove 25 minutes to just be told we had to wait for Ella rose, they wrote our number down for her to call. Never heard from her. Even tried calling to reach her a few times, no luck and she refused to just give us a call back. We would have been fine with even store credit but instead they just took our money for literally nothing.
Great pricing (usually lower than postings even make me expect) on used abd reclaimed or unused excess materials - lumber, tile, windows, drawers, blinds, nails, screws, etc. They also have some tools, mostly pretty rough-looking but probably some gems among them. Staff are super friendly, too, but dont pester. Sounds like they also do workshops and building/crafting contests.Down sides: Im not sure they have any sort of shopping cart (they have gear to move things as needed, but nothing to carry around with you, nor space for that to be very reasonable) and their setup is NOT friendly for wheelchairs or walkers. Also cant always be sure what youre getting, like with about any resale shop.
This is a wonderful place. They always have a huge selection of items for sale. Sometimes items definitely seem a little over priced for being second hand, but dont let that detour you. Products range from doors, to cabinets, to claw foot rubs, various type wood and trim, etc. Be sure to check them out for your next project.
What I love about the concept behind the ReBuilding Center, it keeps so many materials out of the landfills and that you can go there and find exactly what you need and repurpose it. Their mission is fantastic! Ive used them hundreds of times for many projects from home improvement, remodeling, as a source for props for both theater and movies set decoration. Today Im repairing my swinging Butlers door between the kitchen and dining room and I found exactly what I needed after going on a treasure hunt. Thank you ReBuilding Center for all that you do.
Love this place! Such great inspiration for makers of all types, and WONDERFUL if you need inexpensive building supplies :) A+ for hippies like me, lol
Rebuild it! You are a teacher to our future generations! What a concept ...build a playground with shaded areas please.
The Rebuilding Center is a fantastic resource for helping to make sure things dont go to waste. The wood prices are fantastic when they have what you need in stock.
I love that place. Great people selling great stuff for great reasons at great prices
This place is awesome. Its really hard to go in and not walk out with half the store. Good thing my trailer is small ☺️Great prices, huge selection of cool stuff to go through. Also its a nonprofit serving a good cause. Spread the love and go check it out!
After selling out all their space to the neighborhood this place has gone downhill drastically. They wont take any donations anymore so just throw it away.
Although the selection was sparse for what I was looking for, I did find the perfect bookshelf to turn into a raised garden bed for $10. Couldnt even find dirt for that price! It allowed me to make a donation and a rave review on the excellent staff who helped every step of the way. So pleased that I can grow chilies and herbs in a place with plenty of sun!
The most ethical thing you will do all week
Great store, awesome selection of reclaimed hardware. Repairing or remodeling an old house, this is the place to go to find bits and pieces that fit. Nice staff.
Too many great items to choose from, cause they have almost everything. But once you find just the right things, staff is great about helping load it up. Cashier is the best. Great personality and fun to chat with. Overall, best shopping available.
Great old hardware and always changing selection of cool old furniture and reusable building materials.
Always have a great experience with an abundance of finds and friendly staff. A first stop when starting any home project.
Went to RBC for a screen door to enclose our cats catio. Found just the right one with a whole bunch from which to choose. For 25 bucks got a light wooden door that will be just perfect. Parking on Mississippi Ave is tight, we always go to the side streets and walk a block or so. Works great.
No prices on anything in the room with bathroom cabinets/ sinks. Went back to the front to ask them to send someone. Waited 20 minutes, no one came. Tried to actually call the store to see if we could get the front desk - recordings only. In the past I have had very good luck at this place. :-(
I love the idea of this place. When I was just there now, I couldnt find anyone to tell mr how much something cost. I will come back, though. Tons of great perfectly usable stuff! Save the forests. Shop here!!
My favorite place to look for building materials and projects. They are accepting in person shopping and donations again. And they reorganized everything during their covid shutdown which makes it a whole new exciting scavenger hunt again. I love the people and the store. Try it, you will like it! Oh... wear closed toe shoes for safety and a jacket for warmth. And take your measurements with you.
Even during g Covid the people are polite + helpful. Must wear mask + social distance. Found some wood we wee looking for.
This place is great. A great option for renovations. You can get some real scores.
Tons of useful building supplies and appliances at great prices!
I love this place! Always find some kind of treasure. Our cashier, Ellarose, was absolutely wonderful!
Always an adventure here. New items all the time. The prices are reasonable. Like a Treasure hunt.
Wonderful place for home restorations, and needed house parts of any kind
I love this place
This place is a ball. Stop by even if you dont need anything to look at all the cool stuff.
Didnt find what I was looking for, but a Great place to find random things.
Some cool stuff, their lumber selection wasnt great...
The classes at rebuilding center are a great way to get familiar with power tools and pick up new skills, while supporting a great cause. The instructors for both the classes I have taken so far have been awesome and I am looking forward to taking more classes in the future.
The classes here are awesome – fun and informative! Jared is a great instructor and can’t wait to return for more classes in the future
This is a super cool place. A great spot to grab cheap building materials. That selection is huge. There are more than just vintage items here, but a lot of vintage themed things are available. The store is huge. We took an hour just to walk through and see everything. There are some beautiful old woods and windows. We had a good time looking. It seems like a place that you could find some great items at.
Great for finding items for fixing up or remodeling your home, garage &/or sheds Plus any other projects you may be looking at starting or are in the middle of. Love this place & the prices are great for the vast majority of the items you can find here. Plus Ive never had any issues in finding assistance when Ive needed it & thats not a statement I can make about some of the more popular (& expensive) home improvement or hardware stores Ive been to around Portland. A MUST STOP if needing anything for your home to help keep costs down. The only negative statement I can say is that because their inventory always changes depending on what is donated/received, they may not always have the items you are needing or wanting.
Worth the trip. Good selection, better curated than pre-pandemic. The great staff and great deals keep me coming back.
Love this place. It has a lot of cool stuff that is very reasonable
LOVE the Rebuilding Center!! Never know what kind of treasure youll find, the prices are good and the people are friendly!
ReBuilding Center in Portland is awesome. For $20 I got a pallet of gently used flooring that covered a room In my house with enough leftover to use on a project at work that can be improved by a smooth floor. It was a bit of work to weed out the damaged boards, but that is part of the fun and saved 95% of new price.
I love the people who work here!! Just had an appointment and they were aware of the health concerns during the pandemic, and so kind! Good job creating this atmosphere!
I always send my finder angels out before I drive into the city, to be sure I find what I need. It works every time! I needed to help my neighbor find a prehung front exterior door today. Found it! & it was only $25. She was blown away since she was prepared to pay up to $60. She treated me to lunch. WIN WIN
The Rebuilding Center is an amazing resource for the community. They do incredible community outreach, help re-use material that would otherwise go to the dump, and give affordable options for people looking to build or renovate on a budget. I have taken multiple classes at the Rebuilding Center as well and the teachers/volunteers are fun and knowledgeable and make the classes a really worthwhile experience.
Man, Ive missed this place. They are reorganizing the place so expect items to be in different places. Same great selection!
Friendly workers and volunteers. Pretty organized for the volume of goods they carry. As a regular customer I can find needed items quickly, but if this is your first visit allow extra time to look around their 2 buildings. You can place a free short duration hold on items while you decide to purchase; purchased items can be held 72 hours. Bring your gloves, tape measure, and dress warm if its cold out. Assistance provided for loading and unloading. Stock is constantly rotating and popular items go fast as things are priced to move. If you shop here you will save money, and save items from the landfill. This is the largest reuse stove in Portland, so a must see. The parking lot is small, but there is plenty of free on street parking. Volunteers wanted, and homes wanted for deconstruction. This is a non profit.
Great service, great products, even better prices.
Love this place so much! Excellent resource for building materials, hardware, woodshop education, and skill development for volunteers of all backgrounds and abilities. One of the finest nonprofit organizations in the Portland, Oregon area, which also serves as an umbrella for many smaller and/or short-term projects. Takes coalition-building seriously, yet is also, more often than not, a site of lighthearted mirth, at which friendly, neighborly exchanges are the norm. (Plus, theres an adorable, old grumpy cat.)
I do a lot of remodeling that does not require new material and almost always have been able to find something that will work. Good selection of every kind of style. If you buy something thats not working theyll credit you within a certain time period. Pickup and drop off are easy, but street parking is sometimes tough.
Its the only place I know to go shopping for a door for about ten bucks. They might have the size you need, they might not. But theyre labeled by dimension and they have about a hundred of them. Looking for a window? They have hundreds. And its recycling, which is good.
The selection and maze of different things available here will make your mind spin - literally. Hunting through the stacks and piles and bins and rows for just the right thing will have you turning your head every which way. You will usually end up leaving with something you need, three things you didnt, and one item still not checked off your list. But I find this exciting myself and part of the adventure. Only 4 stars because it can be confusing on how to shop and the staff is not always readily available to assist or explain. Once you get it down the first time, though, its an amazing shop.
Why is the rebuilding center not essential? In these economically difficult times the rebuilding center is needed more than ever for home repair items. We can’t afford big box stores right now.
Cant say enough good things about this place or the fantastic people who run it.
My first stop everytime!
I love this place... Absolutely love it... You never know what youre going to find in the employees are all incredibly knowledgeable.... Its a great place to just go poke around when you dont have much to do you might walk away with a truckload of stuff at a great price.... And Ella Rose runs the joint
Great idea, well executed. Bought like-new or new fixtures for my new bathroom for under $200 compete!
Zane helped me rehab an ankle injury. He is fabulous! The whole team is welcoming, compassionate and focused on the patient’s progress and success.
Live this place. They have everything and then some. Its either feast or famine depending on what your looking for. Staff is so nice, tons to look at. Great prices. Wish I lived closer.
Always a fantastic trip. Great staff
One persons junk is another persons treasure. I just found the perfect old piece of reclaimed lumber to make a fireplace mantel. A great place to donate building materials, and browse for items to reuse creatively!
Best source for reclaimed building materials Ive ever seen. Huge selection and unbeatable prices.
Great place e to find what you need for a house - just have to be willing to dig! And that is half the fun.And dog friendly!
Love this place! Excellent selection of all sorts of things, from screen doors to lamps, shelving to hardware. If youre fixing up a home or business this is the first place you should check. Sometimes you have to go a couple times to find the perfect item, but with new things coming in regularly it shouldnt take long to get what you need. One downside is the parking can be tricky. They have a very small lot and Mississippi is a busy street. However, they do have a loading area which is useful when its not too busy. Go support this awesome local business and know that youre helping to reuse/recycle cool things!
I really like this place. There was a gentleman that helped me out even though he was due for a break. He was friendly and didnt try to rush me with my questions. When I finally picked out my things the cashier told me to use cash because the items that Im picking up were only $2. I told her that I didnt have any cash with me and my card was all I had. She was rude and told me to come back with cash. This place seems like it gets plenty of business. I cant imagine that their fees for using a card machine is hurting them. Anyway, shame on that lady. It took me a long time to pick out my things and to get turned away for payment was really disappointing.
What a cool place.. I could spend all day walking around in here if my girlfriend would let me. I wish we had something like this where Im from! Its a project-oriented-home-owners paradise.
I get that the rebuilding center has some issues, but they have treated me very well over the years. I love the changing inventory and once you figure out that the staff is just really busy, you will find that they are really nice people and will really offer you a lot of help. You just have to be patient and track them down and you wont be disappointed. Deals are to be found and friends are to be made!
Lots of goodies. Friendly helpful people. Great prices on quality recycled items. Some old, some newish, some antique, all useable. I try to come here first for home projects.
The rebuilding center is great for building on a budget. It has good things for a rustic vibe if youre into that.
I understand you want to be safe but when a customer has to make an appointment just to get in to view USED items and then NO ONE answers the stupid phone it gets a little frustrating.
I visit the Rebuilding Center from time to time. I have a little house Im updating/remodeling, so I like to go in and take a peak. I honestly have never bought anything. However, Ive spent hours walking up and down the isles and poking through bins. I have to admit that Im really overwhelmed by how much stuff they have. I did notice during my last few visits that things have really gotten a lot more organized. What I really hope is that some day Ill find kitchen cabinets that will work in my home. Not that Id really know if theyd work or not. Im not quite sure what Im looking for, but my hope is that some day Ill stumble across something(s) that will work for my home. But, for now I just pop in and take a peak. Note... It can get very cold in the ReBuilding Center. Dress warm if it is a cold day!
Oh, I just love this place! I try to visit weekly to see what treasures I can uncover. Customer service is top notch; Leo and Tom, Peter and Pete are all so helpful and wise. Ella Rose, you are the bestest ever! Prices are so fair and reasonable. Thanks!
Parking, which is often difficult, is currently a nightmare due to their parking lot being closed and construction on the corner. Thats as of December 10th. I wanted to get some Lumber and was looking and all the signs of trying to figure out how it works and no one ever came up to me to help. So I guess if maybe if you are aggressive and seek someone out you can get help? I like the concept but I wish they could make it a little easier to use their services.
The best prices for used wood/cabinets/fixtures/hardware. Many staff are volunteers or doing court-ordered service but in my experience most all are infinitely approachable and will do what they can to help wherever possible. Be prepared to dig and wade through a loosely organized store where many items are not priced in which case you need to find someone to price the item (if you cant find anyone just bring the item to the checkout and you can get a price there as well. All in all a great place to shop.
Amazing place. Found a Bathroom Vanity made from solid wood, dovetail drawers -$40
I really love this place! So much stuff. I feel so lucky to live nearby. They do a lot of great things for our community, the environment, and our home! Thank you!
Awesome place! Awesome price! Friendly staff!
They donate to nonprofits. They support people without houses. They host community events. They hire handicapped people. They have low prices. They facilitate training for those that want to learn a construction craft. They go into the neighborhood and do home repairs for disabled and elderly. They care about all of us.
This is like the worlds largest garage sale filled with things you might need to remodel your home. Ive had mixed experiences at the Rebuilding Center, but thats mostly due to staff inconsistencies (they are mostly volunteers). For the most part, this is a great place to browse for things you might need to do some remodeling projects on your home, but dont go in expecting to find specific things.
I found a perfect replacement kitchen sink for $20. I always have a good experience at Rebuilding Center.
The ReBuilding Center has everything you need in parts pretty much. Been going there for a few years, and find the parts I am looking for and more. If you need hard wire lighting, door knobs, toilets and/or parts, door handle parts, wood pieces, shower doors or closet doors....they got those! If you need windows, doors, cabinets for garage or kitchen, they got those, too!
OMG. You guys. You guys. You have to check this place out. So many doors, windows, all sorts of stuff. If you own an antique house or just need some cheep ass stuff for some renovations or building projects.. this is it. Such a wonderful staff, and the prices are insanely low.Its a bit like Goodwill for your house.
You have to go often as new materials come in all the time. Staff is very helpful. The Powells Books of used building pieces parts. Enjoy the journey!
Great organization! A great place to go when you need to find a random piece of wood, or a door, or a toilet, or a sink, or anything for home improvement. Staff is super friendly, has a huge selection of inexpensive home remodeling leftovers, and is an organization I feel good shopping at.
Super Store 👌Love it
I live coming here to the Rebuilding Center. I can almost always find what I need to finish a project. Very inexpensive whatever I need.
This place is awesome, and reasonably priced. You can probably find anything you were going to get at home depot and at 1/4 the price!! Awesome, awesome, awesome. You might have to be patient, but you will find what you need.
Love itNever leave it
Amazing reusable items from doors, windows, tubs, sinks, hardware of any size, shape or material...even new furniture for gosh sakes! Best to go in warmer months as most parts are open air...brrrrrrr😬
This place is magical!
I love this place. Found exactly what I was looking for two projects in a row at happy prices. Im also a contributor as owner of a vintage home.
There are multiple reclaim stores in Portland. This is a barebones operation in regards to product availability. Additionally this is in a location that could be better used for housing; parking is a pain. There is an ally that runs behind it for loading. If you need scrap lumber, an old door, or an old window this place is for you. If you need more, try hippo hardware.
