This is the kind of coffee shop we all want in our own neighborhood— super friendly staff, a rich espresso roast, and good breakfast and lunch options. And it’s full of locally-made products for sale. I’ll be back next time I’m in Portland!

Great coffee, friendly service. We are visiting from out of town, but felt right at home. Im picky about my oat creamer, so the barista graciously had me taste theirs in a small cup before deciding.

Im pretty understating with staff because the service industry is a tough job and Space Monkey seems very busy. However the barista here just came off as put out and unfriendly. Which is funny because she was super chipper and nice to a regular that came in after me. My wife had the same experience a month ago as well. Basically I can read loud and clear they dont want new customers, but luckily theres plenty other great coffee in Portland.

Outstanding. Friendly staff is actually happy to see you. ONLY PLACE IN THIS TOWN TO GET A REALLY GOOD EGG SALAD SANDWICH. Coffees pretty good too.

This coffee shop recently posted a job listing that states you will need 2 years of barista experience for a part time position that will pay up to $13.25. While that is minimum wage, the up to is what worries me. In Oregon, it is illegal to pay tipped positions under minimum wage. Truly hope this is just a misunderstanding, especially since starting July 1st of this year min wage is going up to $14. Especially during these times, I hope the current employees arent being underpaid.Seeing the other 1 star reviews, Im becoming less surprised at this issue.UPDATE: I cant respond to the owners comment below, so let me say this: I posted this as a concerned person trying to look out for other people trying to find work right now, and Im not sure what you mean by just assuming since its quite literally in the job posting. Also, it somewhat is my business as Im looking for jobs, and that came up as a red flag. Im glad youre updating it, but to be honest I wouldnt want to work for anyone that replies to reviews like this. You could have just said that was an error, well fix it. I didnt really have any other way of contacting besides this. I wont be taking this down though, because I think this goes to show that the other people who have posted concerned reviews about even similar things are at least somewhat true. Im glad it was a misunderstanding though, and people can apply on poached without that sort of worry. Ill adjust the stars too. Have a nice night.

This place is awesome! The coffee is great and they have tons of fun art and jewelry and other stuff from local artisans. Its a little dangerous every time I come in because I keep buying more & more stuff! 🤩

What a great place! It’s quirky and fun and bright and very welcoming. The blackberry lavender mocha is a unique delight to the tastebuds and the “good morning” breakfast sandwich, ensures that you will have a good morning. Lots of seating in a really cool area with wonderful people working. This is, without question, a place to make your way over to!

Got coffee here with a friend this weekend and we loved it! Very cute a quirky place. We got two lattes. Mine had a hazelnut shot. Were looking forward to coming back to share a piece of coffee cake!

Speedy service. And great conversation. A really chill space to sit and have a drink. Or a bite if you are feeling it. They have a pretty decent amount of options. Plus. As it goes in Portland. Theres a really nice dispensary less than a block away. Its a nice touch.

The lavender mocha was amazing, the barista was friendly, and there was a beautiful art display from a local artist! The only negative was the gluten free muffin; I wouldnt recommend their gluten free baked goods.

This place is a pleasant experience every single time we come. The owner is so awesome and attentive and she hires well. Love the staff and that good morning sandwich on sourdough is my go to. The coffee cake is soooo good too. And of course we love the coffee!

Before I had my right one removed. I drank coffee here allot. Doctor said coffee causes colon and testiclular cancer. guess thats how I got mine.

The inside and seating options are a bit limited, but the coffee is really good and the prices are surprisingly low.

I like going there there was quite a lot of interesting stuff all over the establishment and next time I go theres other different types of drinks and snacks that I would like to try.

I used to go to this coffee shop when I swam at Mount Scott community center across the street. Im back there again and it is such a pleasure that Space Monkey is still there. Great coffee, great food and a wonderful staff as well as a cool vibe. I love this place.

I am not one to leave bad reviews, however I was very surprised by the rudeness I received today when contacting Space Monkey. I called the shop at 11am this morning inquiring about job offerings. The person who answered the phone said normally I would talk to you about this but you called a coffee shop at 9am which is a horrible time. So no, I am not hiring. I said okay, I hope you have a great day, goodbye. And the person had already hung up before I got those words out. It seemed to me like the person was stressed out and taking it out on someone undeserving... not cool! Plus I called 2 hours after their rush. So Space Monkey Coffee... How do you expect people to injuire about jobs or be hired? I am doing the most respectful thing i can during COVID - to call ahead instead of walking in every building when I please. I was expecting friendliness if I were referencing previous reviews of this place, but instead i got cold and harsh treatment. For simply asking a 6 word question

This place lost one star for cleanliness, one star for bad customer service, another star for the amount of time it took for them to make us our coffee and I would take two more stars off if I could for how watered down this horrible coffee was. I ordered an oat milk (usually very thick, creamy and frothy) latte with almond flavor. I’m pretty sure they don’t even pull the shots because it tasted like watered down drip coffee with some watered down oat milk and a half teaspoon of watered down almond flavor.

This place was great! Service was super friendly and fun! Drinks were amazing! I had a seasonal Gingerbread mocha, which was so yummy, and my friend got the funky monkey customized and they did it perfectly! Cute little spot comfy seating and good food too! Muffins were REALLY tasty and the bagel and cream cheese was perfectly toasted and they didnt skip on the cream cheese.

This place is a local gem. I really love the service here and everything is delicious.

After coming here a few more times, I want to update this review. So, the problem with this place is SO MANY people love this tiny spot so its crowded at times, and often a bit slow. Also, because its a small business with limited staff, its not always open during the posted hours. If you are in a rush, its a gamble to come here. ON THE OTHER HAND this is probably the most welcoming coffee shop Ive ever been to. The staff shows that they really care, Ive had great conversations with a lot of them, and they actually remember what Ive told them and follow up on how my life is going the next time I see them. Also, watching the way the staff interacts with children melts my heart. There is also a small play area for kids, and a shelf of books for adults. They have tasty snacks and healthy homemade soups and pastries.Bottom line, if I go here in a rush I typically get a bit annoyed. But if I come here with the intentions of sitting down and enjoying the atmosphere and staff, I love this place.

Great coffee and atmosphere!

This place is a nice place to sit down and unwind. It has a little place area for kids to the side of the store in the back. You can see the kids playing form the tables. Its quite in here. They have some very unique flavors of coffee here. I tried the white chocolate mocha with lavender. It didnt taste much like a white chocolate mocha but it did have a vanilla taste to it. Its not my favorite coffee because it was a little bitter for my taste but it wasnt bad They also have a really delicious chai tea here. Its not your regular brand of chai tea its a very unique flavor but its tasty. They have More A variety of baked goods than the bakery right next door to them have. Their muffins are $2.50.

A great little shop! The barista (Anna I think?) was super nice, and made great coffee! I ended up staying much longer than I planned to.

Very nice little atmosphere. Got a Mason jar with a branded silicon koozie on it and a lid to turn Mason jars into to-go cups. Cute stuff, good coffee. Just went in to kill time while the kids were at the pool across the street. :)

Good coffee, just do not ask for anything special. I just wanted my coffee blended and that was it. Even though they do have blenders, they were not able to accommodate. I love how the employee talked back to me when I told them they are high maintenance. I like that, Ill respect you more for not taking BS from customers. Ill be making my own coffee at home from now on. Much love though. Ill just spend my money elsewhere. Love the organic to!

Im a avid coffee drinker and I love eating breakfast any time of the day. This location is the best for both! Ive been in Oregon 5 years now, and Ive tried many different coffee shops. I only found Space Monkey 2 months ago. Now I only come here for my coffee needs! The staff is so down to earth and always friendly! They do get busy, and you might have to be patient while the staff catches up on orders. But its well worth it, as far as Im concerned!

I really want to like this place. They have a good atmosphere and good food and drink selection for a coffee shop. But every time I have been here they mess up my coffee order. They don’t add any flavor or seem to forget the espresso or give me the smallest size when I paid and ordered a large. When I’m paying $5 for a coffee drink I expect it to be the size I order with the flavor and number of shots I ordered. It’s like they are trying to give me hot water with steamed milk every time.

This is a great local little coffee house with a nice selection of sandwiches and assorted munchies. They always have a quirky special coffee drink available, like a pistachio mocha! The service here is some of the friendliest Ive encountered in Portland.

I think this place is great! Really good coffee, really good food (good morning sandwich is a favorite), killer smoothies (I adore the grasshopper). Very kid friendly--my kiddos love the play area. Staff is very friendly in a comfortable way--I always feel at home and welcome.

Slow service. WAY overpriced. $8 for just a lunch sandwich is ridiculous. Good food but you will pay and wait. Also as a few others have commented, staff is a brash and short with those who they dont deem as regular customers. It always seems as if they are annoyed to have you here and if you ask a question they answer in a condescending tone.

I like to come here to work and get a bite to eat. The staff are always courteous and helpful. Good location as well!

I like stopping in here whenever I have to go to the bike shop around the corner or on my way to the Portland Insight Meditation Center. Ive done a couple of writing dates here as well.Since the place is small and kid friendly its not necessarily the greatest for escaping into relative quiet. However, due to the size there cant be tons of screaming people in here, small or otherwise, so it never gets very loud.I like their food quite a bit; the drinks are okay and improve if you stick to the simple stuff. +1 for the chai.

Five stars. A neighborhood staple, Space Monkey doesnt tolerate disrespectful behavior, cares about the integrity of the shop and their patrons ability to have a comfortable place to work and enjoy the shop. A rare breed in this part of Portland, I am happy to spend my time and money here. Long live the independent coffee house.

A friend and I tried out the Space Monkey for the first time last weekend. It was comfortably full but not crowded. The tables were cozy but far enough away from each other to have some space. The service was friendly and the place had a generally happy vibe to it. You can put gf bread with any sandwich, so I got one with a combo of hummus, avocado and some other veggies. It was all very fresh and matched flavors nicely--plus prices were good! My friend loved hers, too. We definitely plan to come back!

This place is a good example of why the Portland coffee scene is so world-renowned. It has a large menu and kitchy vibe without being too hipster I brought my mom there.

This is one of our favorite local coffee shops. They have a great kids play area and lots of vegetarian/vegan options.

I like this place. The baristas are very friendly and the coffee is pretty good. They serve soy lattes and dont charge for the soy. I wish more places were like that. Their pastries are better than most places. In addition, they are very kid friendly.

This is the best coffee spot in Portland, hands down. The casual “home away from home” atmosphere is just what I look for in a coffee house. Whenever I’m in pdx I make sure to stop in. It’s a reminder of what Portland used to be before all the high rises and pretentious rich people moved to town. Please space monkey, NEVER CHANGE.

We’ve been staying in the area for a few weeks now and space monkey is our favorite place! Plenty of comfy seating even when it’s busy. The coffee is amazing, especially their speciality drinks. Impossible to refuse any of the delicious treats they have, and their breakfast sandwiches are amazing. Even with a small staff of just two kickass ladies (doing the coffee and cooking) they can handle a huge weekend line out the door with ease. Will keep coming back here!
