Fast and friendly service with a decent cup of coffee. I also had a burrito which was so warm and delicious. The store is lovely decorated, and there is a display case on the side wall, exhibiting some one hundred espresso cups collected by the owner, definitely worth a look! There are lots of seats outside, over which the sun would slowly set on a sunny day. An excellent place to meet friends or read a book by oneself.
Great Scott!Had the mushroom arugula melt that is apparently the seasonal vegetarian special, and my mouth has never been more in love.If anything, my biggest regret is that I did not order two because now they are closed and all I want is another bite.Great beer selection, super friendly service(makes this place a return trip already), and really tasty looking cocktails are telling me Im coming back- and soon.Oh yeah, would have a great picture of the sandwich, but I accidentally ate the whole thing.
After being in self-lockdown for the last year and only having Starbucks beans at home to make our daily coffees, it was a real treat to have a dopio from Water Ave. Coffee. The taste was a delicious sweet and just a hint of bitter that made the shots taste so darn good. The staff was pleasant enough but not truly inviting. If youre in search of a great espresso, you should include Water Ave. on your list of places to visit.
My sister lives in Portland; I dont even live in OR. Ive been here, and the coffee and food are good (although they have very little sugar free syrup options for lattes. Tons of dairy free options, but sugar free is unheard of apparently...).But I just tried to buy a gift certificate for my sisters birthday and they wanted to charge me $9.50 in shipping to mail it to her. A piece of paper. Via UPS. Thats just ridiculous...
Great experience, got a 12oz 3 shot latte with sugar, the foam was perfect. My girl got a cinnamon toast latte was yum. Breakfast burrito on menu caught our eyes, so good!
Got a hot chocolate with a shot of “magic” (which adds a lovely floral note) two absolutely delightful scones, one maple on berry, and a chai tea. I was very impressed. Super sweet staff, real patient with me for walking in minutes after opening! Definitely plan to return!
I really enjoy this place. It’s in an industrial setting, but has some warmth about it. It’s very bright, lots of easy places to sit with a laptop (or not), and good music playing. Outdoor seating. Very friendly and helpful staff, REALLY good coffee and lattes. Will try some food next time, the menu look great.
Cool coffee stop with a mini donut situation operating inside the space. Outdoor sidewalk seating is decent. This place is right on the east river side bike route which makes it a super convenient stop. Felt reasonably quiet from street noise on a spring Sunday before noon.
11-11: 4.0 out of 5 - Came in after a group run. The staff are nice, the place is clean, and the prices seem to be fair. The coffee was good and the food was tasty. Can be a little noisy when the train comes by, but its a train... what do you expect, right? If you havent done so, give Water Avenue Coffee a try and decide for yourself. Enjoy!
If you are ever stuck at the railroad tracks just park and grab a quick breakfast sandwich or coffee here, thats what I did! Found this spot randomly and decided to give it a try, I had the Spicy Avocado sandwich. My sister ordered the Classic WAC with avocado. We loved the sandwiches! Super good, fresh ingredients, lightly toasted bread and flavorful! Overall, cool industrial interior, yummy breakfast sandwiches and quick service.
Super friendly staff, super yummy coffee. Love love love!
Great caffeinating point coming off the esplanade from a run. Quick friendly service & a nice selection of pastries (get there early, ie before 10am) See you soon.
I love this place :) Staff is super friendly and coffee is consistently good. I love their outdoor seating space and I can’t wait to hang out inside again once covid is all over! Their chai is really good too.
This is a nice coffee place. It has an industrial, very portlandish feel. Definitely check them out if you are looking for intriguing coffee bars. The malt mocha is excellent. Ive never seen that offered anywhere before.

Coffee and food were awesome and the employees were very helpful and nice. Recommend highly
Warm drinks that are made on the spot. Great sound system plays interesting music. There is a old wooden canoe hanging inside that looks pretty neat. Location is great, just a block east of the Willamette River. The restroom requiring a code to enter is in the hallway and is shared with the other buisnesses on the first floor. Great espresso or chai tea, and the pastries are made in house.
Good coffee. Didnt care for the vegan pre roll. The pumpkin cookie was AMAZING though and I highly recommend it. Ive never been so content spending 2+ dollars on a small cookie. I got a macchiato (meant to get iced but did not 🤣 my own fault) and it was very good. And my husband got a cold brew. We also brought home the canoe blend and it is delicious as well. Used it to make cold brew and it is just perfect.
Unique drinks, decent price, cute atmosphere (obviously couldnt sit in d/t COVID though)
Stopped here spontaneously and this was a great weekend treat. My wife tried a breakfast burrito, and I had a breakfast sandwich. Im a snooty black coffee purist and shes a fancy latte person and this place pleased both of us. Great portions on breakfast, and high quality coffee.
Water Ave coffee is incredible (seriously some of the best beans around!), but have you tried their granola?!!! If not, what are you waiting for?? I’m not sure how they do it, but the granola at Water Ave is the most perfect, crispy, lightly sweet, nutty granola I could imagine. I’ve tried the granola a few times- most recently with their chia pudding, but also over yogurt. All I can say is .. get yourself to Water Ave ASAP and give their coffee and snacks (specifically the granola!!) a try!
Nice place for a quick cup. Just wish the kitchen was up and running.
The El Salvador Ayutepeque is my everyday coffee. I prefer the pour over method with the Hario and this coffee produces one of the best cups of coffee around.
Wonderful coffee and breakfast, made with care, high quality ingredients and tasty. I appreciate this business very much.
Got there about one, it wasnt busy. This place has a great design. Food is like a restaurant in Jacksonville I liked.
Good coffee drinks
Cute little coffee shop to meet in or sit for a nice coffee. The place is super cozy and modern industrial. Little loud so can be hard to focus when working but I would still recommend this place and the service has always been great. They have cute benches to sit at outside in the summer as well.
Excellent coffee and very good customer service
Now these guys really know coffee--my 16 oz latte was perfect....a rich, bold roast, with the perfect consistency. The temperature was spot on and accompanied my almond croissant ($3.00) perfectly! With the industrial sounds around you, and the window of hustle and bustle, this place will let you relax while you enjoy that morning break. I will defly return again!
Great coffee, great ambiance! They have lounging chairs, couches and table/chair options. They also have a cool spot in the back where you can chill out! The service was super good and the the workers were friendly as well. I had the honey latte and it was super good. I would definitely recommend it. I would definitely find myself back to this place the next time Im in Portland.
Arguably my favorite coffee spot in Portland. Consistently great espresso pulls, actually the single best espresso Ive ever had was here. The staff is really friendly and the place is always clean and inviting.
Some of my favorite coffee in Coffee Town already, but the cafe itself is a wonderful place as well. They have real food – beyond the usual cafe pastry fare – and their golden milk latte is very modestly sweet, lovely late-afternoon option for my caffeine-sensitive body. I enjoy the music, the vibe is lively without being excessively loud, theres ample bike parking, there are a handful of outlets to charge a laptop, and some of the chairs are actually comfortable for a long session of focused work.
Love Water Ave! Covid procedure is solid & plenty outdoor seating.
Love this little coffee shop. Excellent espresso drinks and featured coffees. Today I had the sarsaparilla and cardamom cold brew and it was AH-MAZING. The place was packed but we still got served quickly. My only critique is that they only had dairy-based creamer at the coffee prep station. For a place as progressive and environmentally-conscious as PDX it is super important to have dairy alternatives for those of us who abstain from animal by- products. Hopefully in the future they will have that available.
What a nice view of the city when sitting outside. And a cozy feeling when sitting inside. Wife and I did a bump and run here, and didnt familiarize ourselves too much. A complex line up of roasts sit atop shelves for your specific tastes. Ethiopian, or Sumatran, to mention a few. We choose a bag for home, and ordered two houses.Great friendly service. Neat hangout. Ill tell you, I am no coffee connoisseur, but I did like the flavor of the house coffee. Not too bitter. Menu overhead and printed for breakfasts and lunches.
Excellent coffee. The medium roast is as smooth as silk. My friend and I frequent often and rate them two thumbs up! They get pretty busy on weekends with the cycling crowd. Nice atmosphere and plenty of places to eat all around them as well you can order food from next door and get served inside the coffee house.
Great coffee! Staff a bit too preoccupied with being cool and stuff - didnt give me a number, forgot my food order, made the coffee to go instead of to have here (even though he did clarify that at the start.) Flavour of everything was great though!! A little bit let down on the service experience.... real coolness only comes when your overall provision is seamless and above average.
Great breakfast burrito for $6 and a solid chai latte w/a perfect balance of spice & sweetness!
Coffee is top notch. Many choices. Also a good selection of baked goods, including vegan and gluten free. Perfect place to go after a waterfront run. On a weekend late morning, this place is hopping with spandex.
Cute little coffee shop with delicious breakfast items. I got the egg sandwich and it was very tasty. There lattes also looked very good. Definitely a great place to meet up with friends. They have a great patio as well
Excellent coffee
One of the better coffee shops in town
They have choices for vegan food which I respect very much, and the food itself is delicious!
Fantastic coffee made very carefully. Highly recommended and even worth a trip to go out to it if youre looking for a shop that takes coffee very seriously.
The food here is quite small, but well made. The service is great. Can get busy and be hard to find a table. Beautiful light.

I am a homeless man.I found that this coffee shop is polite and very friendly. They always treat me as family and have been a great place to enjoy the company of great people. The avacado sandwich is awesome.
The breakfast we had was really good and very tasty. The cappuccino was even better, the best coffee of the city.
Always a great cup. Great location, good people.
Lovely little coffee house with nice goodies for smacking. Tea was good which is not always the case. A lot of people work here as it was almost full with laptops. Construction outside made getting inside hazardous given the driving of people. But that is temporary while the sidewalk is replaced.
Very good coffee and pastries. Simple hot dishes are also good. Regulars and visitors fill the bright and open atmosphere at this great location.
Water Ave. coffee is a cool spot with nice outside seating during the warmer months. There is ample bike parking too that is visible from inside, which is nice if youre uncomfortable bringing your bike into the area. Its pretty popular though so crowds are common but the staff are cool enough that its not a major sticking point.Oh, and the coffee is good, of course.
This is a wonderful coffee shop I found while visiting Portland. Both my espresso and cappuccino were delicious and Im a sucker for any shop that serves a sparkling water back with an espresso. I cant speak to their food since I just ordered drinks but the menu looked great and I found myself wishing I could stay for breakfast.
They roast some of the best beans in Portland. Food menu is tasty but spendy. Their baristas know how to make coffee beverages of the highest quality and are always friendly (in my experience).
Water Ave is a great coffee standby in a cool Portland wear-house conversion. Across the street from clark lewis its hard to be more hip, but the inside makes a commendable effort at matching the older vibes of the city. try the coffee while you hang out inside, out of the rain, and prepare for your second round of interior designing
Great coffee. I got a piccolo which is my usual at coffee shops and it tasted very well balanced. The milk was steamed perfectly as well. You can tell that they care about the coffee they make. I recommend this place.
I love this place with all my heart. I wish I could spend more time here. Such a well thought out space. Bar flow looks great as well. Employees work as a team. Food/pastries are fantastic. Service is gold!! Now lets talk coffee. Water Ave is bringing the heat on those single origins. Their blends are exactly what they should be. Goes super well with a bit of milk, say a cortado or macchiato. Roast profile is medium to medium-dark, but the clarity is there. I would say they are catering to their customers for sure. I am interested to see where this shop goes in the future. So much potential for further greatness.
One of my all time favorite coffee shops and roasters. I make sure to stop by for a cold brew whenever I’m in town.
Knowledgeable staff, good drip to order coffee, and nice sandwiches. Fantastic (and cheap!) French pressed coffee with refills. The back of the shop is dedicated to the roaster--leaving no doubt as to how fresh & local the product is. It is a bit noisy when they are roasting, though.
Water Ave. has some of the most unique coffee I have ever drank in my life...the Colombian Sudan Rume. It is so bright, sweet, cream, and all around special...it literally had a strawberry jam smell and note in the cup. Everyone needs to try it once in their life (even if its $35 for a 8oz bag), some rare beans but ultra legit!Im also a blend guy and they have some great choices in that area as well....Beautiful shop on Water Ave.
Made a special trip to go here because of their s’mores latte. When I got there they said they were out of marshmallows and graham crackers, but still had it listed on their temporary menu board, which was super disappointing. There were six people working there so you’d think someone could go out and get their signature ingredients. Simple latte still took forever. Two stars because it wasn’t a terrible latte.
