It had been just over two years since my last visit to GG, so I wasnt used to the layout at all. An employee helped me find what I was searching for very quickly.Even though the store was decently busy, checkout was quick and smooth, even with me talking up the cashier.Ill definitely be back soon, Im getting back into MTG, after almost a decade of not playing.
Great place to find table top games. The staff are very knowledgeable and friendly. There is also a rewards program. Ive been shopping here for years and I dont regret it!
If you are looking for something game related you can probably find it here, if you play any of the big card games (Magic, Pokemon, etc) you are likely to find tournaments to play in. However their prices are on the higher end and they tend to engage in price gouging on certain things. The staff are friendly amd helpful. While you are not likely to find a bigger game store in the area there are better ones.
Large supply of everything. Big open, well lit, clean store. Games are very nicely organized. Everything you want/need with a good variety to pick from.
Awesome place!! I havent seen a gaming store so big!! Helpful staff that knew their games.
Visited the store to get a gift for a friend thats really into games. Walked into the store and found a huge well organized and clean store thats full of games! Initially I explored the store a bit, then a very friendly employee named Brian asked if I needed any help. I told him that I dont know much about games and just am looking for a suggestion to get a friend that has a large game collection already. He pointed me towards the game skull. Long story short, I ended up getting it and the game was a hit. My friend did not have it and everyone loved playing it. I am very impressed by the store, and also the employees that work there. I will definitely be back, and I would recommend this store to anybody. Even if you dont like games, there is something that you will like in this store.
This place is a great retail location for games. They have a large selection with a number of knowledgeable employees offering insight and advice on games to choose. They also have a nice space for events. A library of games to play in store or some kind of food/drink option to supplement events would make this place perfect, but this place is still pretty neat.
Our shopping experience here was much more than just walking in, spending money, and leaving. I loved getting to talk to the employees! I would pick up a game and someone inevitably had a story to tell, or information to provide about the game I was looking at.Their recommendations were helpful and much appreciated. We spent a LOT of money on board games that weve enjoyed playing while on our vacation.
Pretty cool store. Some of the stuff was a bit more pricey than other stores, but that’s okay! Some of the staff was very nice but they kept asking me questions which weirded me out a little? Anyways got a cool game so it’s okay
Good gaming space. Some space available for rent. Hosts tournaments for all the major card adventures. Bar leaves something to be desired. Prices for games are a little steep but you do get to congratulate yourself for avoiding Amazon.
Overall selection is great. The organization of board games to have a section for two players is genius. The real star is the staff, all here engaging, friendly, and not pushy. Gold Stars in my book.
Great selection of games and very knowledgeable staff. Always impressed by how they know most games and can keep rules straight. They also do a good job making recommendations based on other games/genres you like.
Nice place, very clean. Attentive and informative staff. Would definitely recommend for all of your tabletop needs.
Probably the best variety and biggest stock of board games I have ever seen. All things RPG were in abundance. Great place!
Hello there, my friend! Stay awhile, and listen! For as many years as I have been coming to Guardian Games, my original review did not do it any degree of justice. Partially because I was new to Yelp at the time, but more accurately, there is so much going on here, its easy to miss it all.Where to even begin?First off, this is the only game store of which I know with a bar. Yep, a bar. Not a full bar, mind you, but some micro brews and things to help some of us socially maladjusted introverts (maybe just me?) relax and enjoy the company of strangers. There are also tons of snacks and non-alcoholic beverages, if thats more your speed (or age bracket).Next, the unequalled selection of several product types: board games, miniatures, RPG books, collectible card games, sleeves, dice, and nerd paraphernalia. If its in print, its here, or can be ordered post-haste. Out of print? Theyll do their damnest to find it for you. Want to test a game before purchasing? Take it out for a test drive from their extensive library. Theyve even sold me a shop copy of an out of print game from their personal collection.Community support? Unparalleled. GG has helped sponsor and promote multiple local Kickstarter games, and continues to be a bastion of support for developers and aspiring designers (such as myself). Seriously, I only had to mention once that I was designing a game, before being offered support and exposure from the awesome staff here. Nathan, a perennial fixture of the shop, is probably one of the most honest, forthcoming, earnest and committed advocates of the local gaming scene, in every possible manner. He is far more likely to be seen explaining, demonstrating or gushing over a game than trying to sell you one. The wisest of sages well know that his enthusiastic advice is as good as gospel! If he recommends you a game, that recommendation comes with proficiency, passion, and personal experience. In the before times preceding the pandemic, daily events filled the gaming tables with veritable hordes of players of all types and skill levels, from the tournament-caliber Magic: The Gathering veteran, to the first time, pre-teen Pokemon trainer. In the bar, or the private rooms above, Dungeon Masters transported parties of hardened Dwarven warriors, Elven druids, and rookie meatbag Wizards fresh out out their apprenticeships, into sibylline dungeons filled with goblins, Drow, treasure and, yes...Dragons, using nothing more than colorful, superfluous words and some shoddily-drawn maps on a whiteboard. Where victory, or defeat, was solidified in the fickle probability of a twenty-sided die. Glorious! Those days may be gone, for now, but they are not forgotten. And as the prophecy has foretold: they shall return! For now, we must find out adventures, our stories, and our community in smaller groups, at home, or online. But Guardian Games is still here, providing the props and products, the tools and inspiration to tell the tales that will shape our lives. From the get go, GG has faced down the CR: 20 menace of COVID with skill and competence: limited capacity; a clear and sensible social distancing policy; a hiatus on community events, giving us pause from our fantasy worlds, allowing us to focus on the the real one, and the things within it that matter the most to us.Guardian Games is more than a game store: it is Portlands crucible of creative thought, design, competition, community, inclusivity, for the veteran and the n00b alike. The PNW is blessed with one of the most incredible oases of escapism imaginable, while managing to remain grounded in reality. While we faced down the Nurgle-spawned plague that threatened our lives and livelihood, GG gave us the Short Rest to heal our wounds, refresh our spell slots, replenish our hit dice, and equip ourselves to face the enemy we werent sure we could defeat. You couldnt ask for a better support NPC than that!
I love this store, but It doesnt have the feel of a local card shop, it feels to corporate, people behind the desk dont seem as friendly, they kind of make it a point to get you in and out It seems, they do have a huge selection, and when its open the bat upstairs is pretty nice.
Ive always had a fun, positive, and informative experience here. Great variety of products, knowledgeable and supportive staff, cleaned well, and Ive had a great time at my two (so far) experiences at their Wednesday Warhammer events
One of my favorite places in Portland, basically the Powells of game shops. Like at Powells I love just browsing the vast collection to look at games/books I never actually intend to play/read. But they have pretty much everything I do actually play also.I remember when they were operating out of an alley warehouse, pretty amazing how far its come since.
Awesome store for board and card games. I go there for Warhammer 40k but they have a huge selection of board and role playing games as well. They also have MTG cards along with others. Awesome store would recommend to others.
I love this store. So many options for different types of games. I cant wait until we can stay inside and play again.
What a wonderful store! Spacious and well stocked! The staff was very friendly and helpful. Everything was clean and well cared for. All of my favorite TTRPG games were represented. I would highly recommend this store!
Super friendly and knowledgeable staff. I always end up buying more than what I came in for. Don’t be afraid to ask questions, they all really know their stuff. Amazing selection of dice, cards, books, games and more. I was very impressed!
I must say, I didn’t think that Portland had so many resources in terms of Pokémon TCG. Back when the original jungle and fossil sets were out.. there was like one tournament a year. Well it’s not like that anymore and thanks to places such as guardian games. This place is an absolute must if you are a Enthusiast/fan/collector. The place is down right awesome they’ve got import stuff I’ve yet to find anywhere else and the staff are super friendly and surprisingly quick service.
At Guardian Games you will find many things. Some of these many things include: Excellent and kind service, A large but packed location with many options without overwhelming, a great place to make friends or find that one missing piece you were looking for, and of course. Many. Many. Many games.5/5 Would recommend to anyone who can go and needs an extra game or two
Huge open airy game store. Good attention to masking. Lots of clear marks on the floor and wide aisles to encourage social distancing. Run bu gamers for gamers. The folks who work there are very knowledgeable and helpful and can order your game if they don’t have it. I love this place and can’t wait until they can open for gaming in person again.
The store feels like a warehouse. The staff seems like they are being forced to be upbeat which makes their interactions with customers awkward. Some of the staff dont appear to be knowledgeable about the product theyve been assigned to. The selection of games is very good. The displays are very well done. There is a large area in the back for gaming with a snack bar. Parking is minimal.
Always a great experience! Staff was wonderful and helpful. Found everything we wanted and several things we didnt know we wanted. Thank you for a wonderful shopping experience.
Huge store - a wide selection of board games, puzzles, and accessories. Light on hobby models, but great with roleplay figures and paints. Engaging dice displays, and a lot of games on sale to try out.The staff was engaging and friendly, helpful and knowledgeable - great for needing out!
Nice place. Knowledgeable and friendly employees. Lots of great product. Open and inviting layout. Organized and clean store.
Nice place very big and full of fun bored games the staff is super friendly and always willing to help.
Super helpful staff, really made sure I found what I was really looking for. Also, I didn’t realize they closed at 7 on sundays and I was dillydallying a bit more than I ought to given they were closing. They didn’t even bat an eye. Thank you for being generous with your time, I appreciate it, and will keep in mind your closing time in the future.
Big, open store with an immense selection of board games, role-playing games, trading card games, dice, miniatures, and more. This should be your ultimate destination for games in Portland.
My son, his friends, and myself love the selection all things geeky for gamers...and even the non gamers.
Just checked out this shop recently for some Warhammer figures and I wasnt disappointed. Amazing selection, huge store.
Amazing store, customer service was above top notch, amazing people and if they dont know about a game you are interested in they will ask around or look it up
Seems like a good store. Great selection and variety of products. The main thing I would say they need to fix is either get more registers for customers that walk in and buy cards, or change policies on not servicing customers who didnt know to order before. Im from Salem, I went there yesterday and had this issue even though my friend who was in line in front of me didnt. Not saying stay away but just be careful if youre expecting an easy and fast experience
Very friendly staff and a good store layout with large selection of everything table top.
Well organized and streamlined after the closure. Always friendly knowledgeable staff. The level two War Room is awesome as always. Highly recommended.
Great selection. Lots to look at. If you can deal with the employees.Incredibly unwelcoming. I was attempting to look at minis and the employee who was following me around the store just stood by me like i was going to steal. They werent even being subtle or trying to talk to me. Just standing. Probably wont go again.
Awesome game store! They had so much stuff it was a great shopping experience. There are several gaming rooms to keep things a bit more focused on your game. There are many other gaming tables spread out. They have snacks and drinks available for purchase. I was surprised at the amount of gaming accessories they had to add to your Arsenal. 😍 Friendly customer service and clean restrooms. 😊
This store is great! They have a woderful selection of games, including D&D,Warhammer, Magic the Gathering and boat load of boardgames, too! Not to mention, all of the staff are very knowledgeable and helpful.
Amazing game store, has one of the best selection of games I have ever seen and the tables were super fun.
I absolutely love this place for my Warhammer 40k and they have not only that but much more than others might think. The employees are lovely and polite as well as the employers arent at all discriminate with who they hire and I really appreciate that as well! 😀 Thank you Guardian Games for every thing and more!🥰
Diverse selection of games from board games card games and beyond. Always worth visiting.
My husband and I love this game store! Huge selection of games. Employees are super friendly and knowledgeable.
An incredible game store with a helpful staff, a huge selection of everything but conflict simulations, a great selection of paints including the TurboDork line. The play area wasnt in use, but is as large as some other game stores.
I love guardian games. They have great selection and are very nice to customers. The only reason I didnt give them 5 stars is there Pokemon Cards have high prices like most places.
Great store with with all manner of different games on hand. Helpful staff got me to what i was looking for quickly, but I stayed longer just browsing the selection.
Absolutely awesome. Despite the fact its further out from me than many, this place is now my FL(?)GS of choice. Just an awesome place with soo much stuff and cool things around.
Our favorite game store in the area. Guardian is our go to place when shopping for miniature painting supplies, Pokémon cards, or to sit down and play a game or two. Highly recommended.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Lots of merchandise variety. Parking is horrendous though.
GG is a great gaming store. Great staff, well-stocked and with great prices. Im taking a star off due to their dropping a couple lines of product (but thats just me, since one of the dropped lines was classic and vintage gaming products and thats what I predominately look for these days). If its current and they dont have it, theyll order it, if you cant find it, theyll help you look for it or order it, and the events are pretty good.
Coolest game store ever! Towering walls of Bairds games and figurings. They have everything from board games to card games to war machine to magic the gathering. They even have a bar in the back. Only 21+ can go in there which is amazing cause that means the rest of the store is still open to all other ages. In that room though they also have this huge wall of (free) rentable board games. Demos and stuff. Amazing. Fun place to meet other fantasy nerds of the sort. Love this store.
Love your store, have been shopping there for a few years now. Today I had an unpleasant experience with an employee while purchasing a single card that I have been wanting to get for awhile. I knew it was in stock because it was listed on the website. When I came in to purchase the card I was told they didnt have the one I wanted, which is totally fine... so I tried to buy one of lesser quality and was told that its inconvenient for them to ring me up themselves and would rather have me fine the card through there website while Im in there store. I find this to be a little lazy and not very customer service oriented. Again I like the place and will continue to be a customer there but it is unfortunate and not the first time I have seen this kind of service here. Just be a little nicer about the change in process thats all.
Not impressed with how they acted in there. Js
I ordered from them online and they were amazing to work with! The site is easy to use and understand and the cards came in wonderful condition!! I highly recommend any card lover check them out!
Guardian has been a go to of mine for awhile now. They have one of the best selections of miniatures in town, whether for RPGs or Wargames. They have an excellent selection of boardgames too. Dice galore. Just about everything you would need for most table top gaming experiences. Very helpful staff, I was there recently for some Warhammer information and a member of their staff was particularly helpful with Space wolves. I dont remember his name off the top of my head but he was awesome. They have a ton of space to sit down and play some games and regular events. They do have some tables for wargames as well.
We been looking for particular items in regards of trading cards gaming etc and one to be found but this place had it and it turned out to be a good place with so many cool things.
Staff is chill, but also kind of dismissive (prolly just social anxiety talking though.) Its a nice place with a huge selection, and more than fair prices for what you get. Nice store, but Im kind of bummed I didnt find any of the cards I needed. I intend to go back and will update my review once I do.
I had to force myself away from the amazing selection of games, gaming gear, and accessories! A beautiful place to spend a few hours and a few hundred bucks!
Post covid reviewGuardian games has a large selection of boxed games, particularly war games of which I have been a big fan since Avalon Hill games came out when I was a kid. This is one of the few places you can see them and look at them directly in the area. They have all other types of games and puzzles too. Highly recommended and big and open too with good airflow.
Massive selection, nice open space to browse, friendly and helpful staff with great knowledge and recommendations. Also great space to play and grab a pint during non-pandemic times. Seriously love this spot and pop in every time were nearby.
Wonderful people wonderful environment. Even during events
Helpful and attentive staff, but I miss when they had a larger selection of hard-to-find or out-of-print ttrpg books
Great customer service. Only reason for not a5 star is because the of the workers seemed a bit pushy on trying to sell me a card.
Nice place for games. Highly recommend this place
Largest gaming store Ive ever been in and has a taproom in the back! So cool!
The way you have to submit a buylist and then set up an appointment just to sell cards is very inconvenient and unnecessary. Also to buy singles you must also submit another list online rather than just walk inside the shop and ask them if they have a certain card for sale. Very inconvenient and will not be returning
Great place to buy games, and the staff were super helpful. Also has a very wide selection of miniatures, as well as some pre painted options! Definitely coming back here, and recommending to my friends.
Great staff, large open area with tons of games, books, rpg stuff, figures, dice, and cards. So many types of games you will find what you want!
Best gaming store in all of Portland by far! They are still requiring masks for some reason. Unsure when they are going to lift?? What metrics are they waiting for? Seems odd
This is like the holy site for tabletop gaming in the PDX area. I went for the second time in a week this past Saturday and it was amazing. The staff is excellent, kind, and worked hard to recommend me some sweet games. They have everything you could want here in terms of gaming. Even stuff other stores told me they were unable to get. Parking might be tough during busy times but I cannot recommend this place enough.
Friendly staff, and an amazing selection of games and other table top necessities.
Great store for all your gaming needs. Huge store with anything gaming.
Good store with decent size Magic tourbaments.
Great store, extremely spacious, cozy with a super good selection. Staff is nice, never had a problem or anything.Takes me an hour to get here from where I live and I pass numerous other game stores along the way, this place has them all beat
Friendly knowledgeable staff and decent prices as well as a large selection of games
Guardian Games has always been a great store. Under the current pandemic they have found the perfect balance between service and safety. I never feel unsafe shopping there. Staff is top notch and friendly.
Great place for competitive as well as non competitive Magic the Gathering play, a wide selection of games, and fairly nice and helpful staff. The only thing I would advise against is trading in singles because they don’t offer you great value
Love the place, a ton of games and nicely organized. I do not like the way they sell their MTG cards. I went to the counter and asked for a specific card and was told to go online to see if they had it and then purchase it there with the in store pick up option. Why do I have to do theyre job for them, I could done that from home and had it delivered. I go to a store for someone to assist me and look and the product up close. If I cant get that then I dont need them.
If you want to find a gaming book, board game, or card game, this is the place to go. Friendly and helpful staff will narrow down the search for you, and can often give recommendations for similar games youll enjoy.I had a great time browsing, and even brought a friend from Australia who was incredibly awed by the selection. I love this place so much.
Very uncomfortable experience. My wife and I kept getting approached by employees. Employees kept walking up to us and even looked at our hands. We left because we felt very uncomfortable. Won’t be coming back here.
The staff is super helpful, only one person talked down to me, but the rest of the staff is awesome.
This place is HUGEEEEE!!!! Once I entered, I was in awe of how amazing it looked. Not to mention, the outside view of it is pretty awesome with the way they decorated the window area. I loved the large chess piece decor. An 8 year old boy walked in at the same time with me and exclaimed the same sentiments to his mom immediately upon entering. An ENORMOUS selection, with great organization. Lots of tables to sit and play games at. This place holds events and tournaments, as well. Seems like a really cool place to hang out, especially for gamers and that kinda of scene. One bathroom, and it was pretty clean. The store was clean and the workers were nice and helpful. This is the best place to find whatever boardgame youre in search of.
Best game store in the world! They have so much games! Its like the Powell book store of games!
Very well stocked game store. MtG focus is modern. Plentiful helpful attentive staff. Comprehensive Euro and American board games. Good book selection with some exclusive and rare RPG books. Well stocked Warhammer 40K section.Plenty of space to play with a varied crowd. There is a bar at the back it’s a great place to hang out.
A shell of the store it used to be. Definitely has not improved since Angel owned it.
Store was amazing but dont take a nice car there unless you trust the homeless guy out front to watch your car. They also do not have Flames of War as listed on the internet because they clearanced it all.
Great place to play games, amazing staff! Plus you can drink here!
Phenomenal game store, easily the biggest and most impressive one Ive been to with helpful and knowledgeable staff. Events and the attached bar are sadly unavailable for now, but hopefully that will change soon.
Easily the best game shop in town. Great selection and service. They recognize me by name, which is amazing given how many customers they get.
