Cool Moon Ice Cream is absolutely delicious! I came with friends and all of us were very impressed by the quality of the ice cream and unique flavors (like Spicy Thai Peanut and Horchata Cookie). The woman serving us was very friendly and let us try many samples. I loved everything I tried - my favorite was the Thai Iced Tea! She told us all the ice cream was made on site. The space was cute with indoor and outdoor seating.
One of our favorite ice cream shops in Oregon. They have consistently good flavors and a few seasonal ones that are great too. We LOVE the Thai tea ice cream. The birthday cake, Mexican vanilla, butter pecan, chocolate, etc give them a try and find your favorite. The prices are a little high but the flavors are unique yet every family member will enjoy something on their menu. I love that they have cones for our furry friends and that it’s right across from a little park where we go to enjoy our flavorful ice cream. They use real ingredients and that’s why they taste better than the average. We will continue to come and try new and old flavors.
We got here by coincidence and what a coincidence! Probably one the best ice creams we’ve ever had! The staff is very friendly and the quality of the ice cream is amazing! The portions are great too! Kulfi and Thai Ice tea are our favorite flavors! Combine them together! Yummy! For sure we will come back.
A great ice cream stop, right in the middle of the Pearl District in Portland. They make all their own flavors on site, and what a job they do! I had a scoop of Lemon-Lavender (amazing) and a scoop of their own flavor- Kulfe which starts with pistachio flavors and goes directly to heaven, and enjoyed every bite. The staff was friendly and quick, as well, perfectly rounding out a great overall experience. Highly recommended!!
Found this place on Google search for milkshakes. They actually make their own ice cream at the location. The people who work there are very friendly and are quick to help. Had the sorbet called lime in the coconut in a milkshake. Very tasty. Hope to return to try other flavours of ice cream.
Exactly what you want in an ice cream shop: quality flavors (what you’re looking for, plus some you’ve never heard of), quick service, fresh waffle cones, and friendly staff! Great covid setup where they have a table just inside the door so you can complete full order & get your food all while outside. Extra ideal if you’re walking a dog! Thank you for the delicious ice cream - we got the Matcha and Birthday Cake flavors - highly recommend and I’m already excited to return next time we’re in the neighborhood :)
Very tasty, the flavors change often and are somewhat unique so they may not have the flavor you specifically want some times. So be prepared to maybe try something new
Really good, easy to get to, and friendly staff. We tried the spicy Thai peanut and Thai iced tea on waffle cones. It was a level of spice anyone could enjoy and the iced tea was silky and amazing.
My favorite ice cream spot in Portland, by far! I have been stopping by at least once (sometimes more) a week since late summer. The flavors are fun and combinations that you crave! I am the kind of person who has planned trips around places I want to eat -- ice cream included. I feel so fortunate to have such a great local ice cream spot!!Updated to add photos from the last 10 times Ive been by over the last 2 months (possibly less) 😂
The owner gives the absolute smallest scoops. Ive been patronizing this business for years, 13+. Ive always loved their ice cream. Ms Eva owned this business previously and her portions were fair based on the price. I Finally decided to take my business elsewhere. The owner is extremely rude and her scoops are offensively small.
I was in Cool Moon ice cream today. The ice cream is overpriced and the ice cream quality is half mass. And the owner wouldnt give me a large glass of water? Ice cream makes you thirsty. It would really be nice if the owner would supply customers with a large free glass of water. Thats what I would do if I owned a business.
I got a salted caramel milkshake, and it was pretty decent (although it was too runny and there were little bits of ice cream chunks left). However, my biggest complaint is that it was $9.50 for a 12 ounce milkshake… $9.50! I feel like John Travolta from Pulp Fiction right now
Great variety and creative flavors. Really like that they’re open late during summer (nothing better than an after dinner, sneaky ice cream) and that the staff are super helpful as well as patient when you want to try some of the ice cream!
Ice cream was okay, but not worth the price. Very small scoops for $5. Cloud city is much better and you get a lot more for your money.
Good selection of premium ice cream. They also have malt for a malt shake of your choice. Id go again. Going to try the sherbert next.
So tasty! They are fully open with indoor seating. Is this what normal feels like? I recommed the Belgian Chocolate, it is amazing.
THEE best ice creamery in pdx!!! The flavor is never overpowering and perfectly balanced. Fresh banana, Thai iced tea, birthday cake and strawberry are some of my favorite. It’s a debate to not go after dinner every evening…
I love the original and creative fresh homemade ice cream flavors at Cool Moon. Unlike rival Salt and Straw, they have plenty of flavors that appeal to my nine-year-old boys. My favorites are coffee crackle and mint chip right now; my son likes the birthday cake and mandarin orange sorbet. Friendly staff and comfortable atmosphere
Was very busy when I had gone but the staff was still very nice, helpful, focused, and handled the rush well. Amazing ice cream!!!
Came across this place after looking at the huge line at Salt and Straw. It was the closest ice cream shop near by, and it was a surprise hit! Its right outside of the bustling downtown area, nearer to some of the residential buildings. The shop itself is spatious, and the staff was super friendly. It was not that busy when I was there. I tried several flavors (Belgian Chocolate, Oregon Vanilla, Strawberry, Thai ice tea, & Kulfi). I had a hard time deciding between the Thai ice tea and the Belgian Chocolate, but ending up going with a double scoop of Thai ice tea & Kulfi. The Thai Ice tea had a great balance of tea flavor and creaminess, and wasnt too sweet. Kulfi seems to be one of their best. It has a great mix of cream, Kulfi and cardamom flavor to it. I liked it better than Salt and Straw. If youre in PDX and craving a good ice cream fix - you need to try this for sure.
Nice spot in the pearl by Jamison Square. Good dairy free options with natural ingredients and for the price, generous servings. I enjoyed the flavor options (I had the earl grey) and my kids loved theirs also. A lovely place to stop by on a sunny day walk.
Delicious and unique flavors. Definitely worth a visit or two.
Get flavor selection. Good price.
Good ice cream and while you pay for sprinkles, you get a ton of them.
Thai peanut and coffee crackle were excellent. Expensive.
The icecream was spectacular and several interesting choices. Definitely will swing by again.
My family and I have come to this place for more than 4 years every summer. As I recorded this place for many people throughout time. Today is the day will our last because the person who was serving us was very rude and even my 5 years old ask me if she is okay and why she is not happy. Anyway, business only takes on the shot and believe that I will not bring my family here again. Its time to search for another place.
Belgian chocolate and mint chip is a winner. Great ice cream!
Great staff. Love the Ice Cream Flavors.
Im from Tucson Arizona working in Vancouver for a couple weeks & after a long first week decided I needed to find a go to for my last minute cravings.Hey Google, best ice cream near me.So, I arrived at Cool Moon Ice Cream 15 minutes later. Atmosphere: Saxophone playing nearby. City Park across the street. The selection was limited but a rare find Coke float is always a good choice (especially when made with Coke from Mexico & you receive the unused portion still in the bottle). Vanilla ice cream? Nope. Salted caramel? Yep. FYI, fantastic combo.Ill definitely have a repeat of the above mentioned before I leave next Saturday.
Great local place for excellent ice cream
Extremely well crafted and delicious! Friendly service.
People & pooches agree this ice cream is delicious! Recommended flavors banana-strawberry, butter pecan, chocolate chip and of course vanilla with rainbow sprinkles.
Lots of flavors and very delicious. I loved it.
Love their Thai Iced Tea flavor of ice cream! Tastes just like the tea but never waters down like one! 😁
Guy at the counter was great, but it was expensive/not very good. The ice cream tasted burnt...?
Everything Ive ever had here has been fantastic. Thai Iced Tea, Fresh Banana, Mexican Chocolate, Coffee Crackle, Coconut Lime Sorbet, etc.... Best Ice Cream place by far. The season and sucking instrument store might have cornered the market on weird and funky, but they definitely didnt corner the market on consistently delicious
My boyfriend really liked the Mexican vanilla and I love the Belgian chocolate. Some of the best ice cream Ive had. Not too sweet, just right.
Lovely little ice cream shop in a corner, in front of a nice park. The server is very nice and there are many option of flavours to choose from. You can also have coffee, tea and hot chocolate. Overall, very cosy and charming with indoor seating as well. I tried the cookie and cream, salted caramel and butter pecan flavours. All awesome.
Get the Saigon cinnamon!!! Sooo good. 😋
Do not leave if its busy, it is worth it. I will be back with my relatives. Food is similar to a cafe in Portland I liked.
Surprisingly cheap comparatively, the Mexican vanilla in a waffle cone is absolutely tops. Theyre handling the COVID precautions professionally, I will definitely be back.
Nice ice cream : )
Outstanding ice cream
Great ice cream choices with great ingredient and services. Be prepare to wait for long time as the line are long. But it is worth the wait
Cool Moon has so many creative flavors! The ice cream is made with very fresh ingredients and it’s the perfect amount of sweetness. It’s a great family owned business!
Their vegan chocolate icecream is great
No vegan/allergy options
They have great local hand made Ice creams.. very friendly staff and very clean place. They have a good selection of seasonal flavors. But I go there for their kulfi flavor. Do not find this flavor anywhere else and I love it.
Fantastic ice cream flavors all made in house! There were a lot of unique, tasty flavors (banana, coconut & Thai iced tea) that I wanted to try and definitely want to go back!
Great ice cream. We did need to wait a bit but it was worth it
Very cute place. Good ice cream, very good service! I got a mint/cookies and cream milkshake, it was very good! The girl at the counter was very sweet and informative.
We live across the street from Cool Moon and it is some of the best ice cream & sorbet we’ve ever had! They rotate flavors often and everything tastes REAL and whole and good. And for the lactose intolerant among us, their sorbet is also excellent.
My wife and I have been here a few times and its always a treat 😅 Dad jokes aside, the staff are always an absolute pleasure to be around and the unique flavors are delightful. Always a fun time.
Located in the Pearl district, this ice cream shop is a gem. I tried the spicy Thai peanut and the Thai tea ice cream. Both were excellent in reminding me of the original flavors. Good sized scoop and the waffle cones were great. Highly recommend the place over the more crowded ice cream establishments around Portland
The ice cream here is rather overpriced it was like $4 just for a single scoop. They could use a wider selection of flavors too. But the lady at the counter was nice and I did enjoy my ice cream even tho it was expensive:))
Patient and friendly staff. They made me a great sundae for a reasonable price. The americano was brewed with good quality coffee. Will definitely be back.
An unique ice cream in a town full of great ice cream. I suggest the cadomin. Sweet but not too.
I had a single scoop of Summer Rose. The flavor was very fresh and light and the ice cream was creamy. It is seasonal. The flavor compares if not surpasses carton ice cream of high calibre in stores.
Better quality than Ruby Jewel and 50 Licks. Wish they offered 2 flavors in the smallest serving. Oversized scoops make me fat.
Tasty non-traditional ice cream flavors without the rabid following or hype surrounding other local joints. You wont find totally off the wall flavors, but theres always a good offering of seasonal semi-savory options and they do a good job of rotating through flavors. Really nice to grab a cone and then sit in the park across the street on a hot summer night.
Good flavors and fun cones, including chocolate dipped cones! Only smaller gripes include slow switching of the ice cream buckets when they ran out of the Thai Peanut flavor, no AC so it was stuffy even after 8 pm, and not all flavors available were listed on the board, like peanut butter jelly, meaning people took longer when they got to the front of the line. Overall, it was pleasant and the ice cream was yummy! I would recommend it and get the chocolate dipped cones!
Delicious house made ice cream that rotates every month. They had a cantaloupe sorbet a while ago that I still have dreams about.
Great array of dairy and nondairy treats. Open late in the summer and their chocolate covered bananas? Yes, please & thank you! Dont let the vibe fool you, the flavors arent your standard vanilla - they are creative and tasty. Very family friendly, but couples and singles will feel welcome as well. Small seating area, but really how long was that ice cream gonna last anyway?
Love this gem. They serve some amazing scoops and have a great staff behind the counter.
With Salt and Straw up the road, I sometimes forget about Cool Moon. These days I am starting to prefer going to cool moon. The reason is because of the never ending line at S&S. Even with the pint trick where you can jump the line, there are times I just want to get a scoop or two of Ive cream. Cool moon can provide me my wish. Plus their ice cream is very good. I always enjoy my regular flavors like cookies n cream, cookie dough, chocolate, vanilla, or mint chocolate chip. All of these flavors were very tasty. After you get your Ive cream, you can head into the park. In fact you might just do that anyway as the shop is on the smaller side. Only three or four tables for two, which will fill up on warm summer evenings.
Small & expensive - they have a variety of flavors but it’ll cost you an arm and a leg. There’s no kid sizes, but the portions are small enough to be a kid size ice cream. I wouldn’t recommend this place if you’re craving for any old ice cream, but if you have a little more gourmet taste palette. It’s good & I like what they do, I just wouldn’t go back.
Located in the Pearl District and very near the fun Jamison Square Park is a great ice cream place that has many ice cream flavors. We ordered the salted caramel and the buttermilk marionberry ice creams that were served in a biodegradable cup. Both flavors were rich, and delicious! We sat down in the park and enjoyed our ice cream to cool us down since the weather was hot (in the 90s). Unique flavors and great quality marks a good ice cream spot. We were thankful it wasnt super packed and there was no huge line but we could imagine one if the circumstances were different...like maybe after dinner.
It was awesome! I really like this ice cream shop, the ice cream satisfied my sweet tooth! My favorite flavors are coffee crackle and Thi iced tea
Usually I choose Salt and Straw when we venture to Portland, but we were in the mood to try something else. The reviews were good, and it sounded like they had interesting flavors which is what we love about Salt and Straw. I sampled about six flavors but settled with the vanilla which was delicious. The other flavors were ok. They didnt live up to my expectations. With that said this place is alright, but next time Im in Portland Ill stick to my favorite spot.
Great ice cream and service! We ordered the vanilla in a cup and it is enough for 2 servings.
A good ice cream place to stop by if its on the way. The shop is quite simple and gives you the feeling that they arent trying to hard. Definitely gives you some of the classic ice cream shop experiences that used to be back in the day. Would recommend if youre visiting Portland.
Yummy smooth ice cream with fun flavors but nothing too extreme, and sorbet - including dairy-free chocolate sorbet. Great atmosphere, and near a small city park.
This place is so great. Been here a few times. They are open late until 10 pm during the week which makes it a great place to visit after dinner in this area. Ive had the pumpkin, chocolate and other flavors. Staff are friendly and there are places to sit inside.
Good ice cream; tried different flavors and they were all good. They have Adirondack chairs outside where you can sit with your ice cream or go to nearby Jamison square park.
I live in the area and this is one of my guilty pleasures. The ice cream is rich and creamy. Not watered down ice milk. They have a chocolate chocolate chip that is like eating a brownie. The people are friendly and the area is nice, right across from a park.
Amzing ice cream and high quality milkshakes
Cute and quiet little place nestled in downtown Portland. The view of the water works was the best thing about this place. The service was quick and decent. Prices a little spendy, for me, but probably not for the area. $13 for 2 single scoop cones.
First, Cool Moon Ice Cream is an institution in Portland. It can only be compared to Tuckers in Alameda or Loards various East Bay locations Portland.
Fantastic location for a hip ice cream shop. To boot, the ice cream is fantastic. They make their own flavors,: good balance of sweetness, flavor note, and creamy texture. A must visit when you are anywhere near downtown Portland.
Pretty little ice cream store. Has a great selection and is quite inexpensive. The staff are very courteous and friendly. Love having desserts here.
Best local ice cream joint. Fresh variety of flavors. Great friendly staff. Good choice of non-dairy sorbet too.
Unique selection of flavors, good quality & service. It was fairly busy when we went & the staff were very patient, even with most customers wanting to try flavors (which I understand as some of them were odd enough that I couldnt have told you what they were!)... Im sure that they appreciated my husband & me knowing what we wanted, tho. ;)While the ice cream is small-batch & of good quality, I found the taste to be a bit lackluster. I got a scoop of mint chip & Belgian chocolate & neither were bursting with flavor as Id expect. My husband thought his was awesome (something cherry vanilla). But I would still go back.
The ice cream is made extremely well... you can literally eat vanilla and be happy. Also, I love that they have a happy hour for take home pints.
I was in town visiting my boyfriend and we happened upon this place while trying to find our way around downtown. I first tried the iced chai tea flavor ice cream and it had me hooked. we ended up coming back. The flavors are great, the people are cool, and the park next to it is a perfect place to enjoy some ice cream and people watching. Definitely recommend and look forward to the next visit.
As with other gourmet ice cream shops, the ice cream at Cool Moon is handmade and you can sample to your hearts delight. The shop is small, but strategically located next to a park, making for an enjoyable experience. the single scoop in a cone for $3.50 is a great deal, though $7.50 for an average sized milkshake seems a bit steep.
The ice cream was good but, the coffee was excellent. I had an Americano with an extra shot and it was great! My girlfriend had horchata ice cream and said it was good. Service and the atmosphere was excellent.
Always the best ice cream in town. All fresh. All made in their store. Very courteous staff.
