I cant say enough great things about Ryan at East Side Guitar repair. I recently brought in a guitar for a refret and new nut, and Im absolutely blown away by the quality of the work that was done. Highly recommended. Thanks again!
Great experience today. Got 2 of my basses looked at with accurate evaluations of what they needed. Thanks for the support and keeping me going!
I have had 5 or 6 guitars in with Ryan over the past 5 years or so. From setups to new electronics, to repairing a smashed hollowbody (via his trusted network), the work is superb. Every time. Flawless repairs and tech work that lets me get the most out of my hard-earned instruments. I love Eastside.
Did a great job with a new nut on my aluminum neck. will be back for future guitar needs
I took my guitar in for a setup and intonation fix. The person who helped me (a gentleman with white hair) was very friendly and informative. He was patient with me as I struggled to articulate what I wanted him to help me with. He said it’d be a few days at the most. 24 hours later my guitar was ready for pick up. The action is perfect now, the intonation issue is totally fixed and it didn’t cost too much. I’m glad I gave these guys a shot.
Excellent service. I got the nut replaced on my guitar and then set up for an open F tuning. Everything about my guitar works better now. Worth every penny.
These guys rock! I brought my guitar in with a bunch of problems and they fixed it up right on time. It was a good price, plus I get 3 free adjustments!
FedEx demolished a custom guitar I purchased and Ryan and his team made it look good as new in a reasonable timeframe for significantly less than estimated. Cant say enough good about the quality of the work done here.
These guys repaired a broken guitar that nobody else would touch. They did a fantastic job!! I highly recommend them.
Great shop. Knowledgeable and fair pricing. Quick turn around for minor repairs. Thanks Ryan!
Ryan does exceptional work. I’ve had at least six guitars worked on over the years. Two refrets, pick up changes, hardware swaps, bone nut installs, set ups, fret levels, I suppose the full gamut other than major repairs and every one has been great. The two refrets in particular came out amazing - really love how those guitars now play. Prices fair and upfront, work has always been done on time. The latest even done a week ahead of schedule. Appreciate it!
5 Star Service! Fast, friendly, and honest! Ryan went the extra mile to save me money and get my axe back to me quickly. High quality service at very reasonable rates. Just doesnt get any better! Thanks Ryan!
I had a new Floyd Rose bridge put on my main gig axe, along with fret and neck work. The guitar was already set up perfectly for my playing, and Ryan promised hed duplicate the set-up. If anything, it plays better than before. Intonations spot-on, and it holds a tune like a starving pitbull with a steak. Turnaround wasnt fast, but quality work takes time.
Ryan is a master and does impeccable work. I took a couple of guitars in to him that were in dire need of some fret and electrical work. He finished the work several days earlier than promised, they both play great, and he gave me some solid pickup recommendations for one of them to boot. Great experience. I will be taking all of my guitars to him.
Continual trouble with what Ill call a static-y sound when playing my Fender Custom Shop Strat. Had taken it to other repair places and each time, they replaced the 9V battery that powers the pre-amp inside the guitar. Well, it started doing it again yesterday. Took it to Eastside today and it took Ryan about 2 minutes to figure out what was going on. As you may have guessed, it was the battery, but what he explained that no one else had ever told me was that leaving the guitar plugged in even if its not powered on will activate the battery and run it down. Sure enough, when he tested the battery, it was a shade over 2 V where it should be over 9 V. Should have been obvious but no other shop bothered to explain this issue with the battery. Ryan has a new customer.
Ryan repaired an 8 crack in my Martin so well that you can barely see it ever happened. He went the extra mile in cleaning my guitar up after it received some mold damage in my basement. He is clearly someone who will always go the extra mile in making sure his customers are happy and is incredibly up front with what he thinks your instrument needs and what he thinks he can do. I cant comprehend why anyone would not give him five stars. I will always recommend him and will be bringing all my future repairs to him.
These guys are awesome. Ryan helped me string my lap steel which hasnt been played in forever. In fact he deepened the grooves in the neck to accommodate the new strings. He strung it and made beautiful music... All for the price of a set of new strings. Aside from that, the shop is super chill with some bitchen guitars like the 1941 National Steel. Thanks, Ryan!
Top-Notch work. I just took my guitar in for a set up today! Highly recommended.
Ive had a lot of work done here on a variety of instruments and Ive always had things turn out great. Of course I know what I want and how it should feel, sound and look, so that helps. Clear communication is key when having something serviced!
Google maps said that you were open today! I walked 6 miles to get here and you were closed. Never coming back again
Ryans done major setups on two guitars for me. Fret mill, pickup change on one, etc. Im very picky, and both times hes exceeded my expectations and my instruments have come back playing better than ever with new life in them. He has one of the most organized work benches Ive ever seen. Thanks Ryan!
I borrowed a guitar and accidentally damaged it. I took it in to get it repaired - hoping to return it to its original condition. Ryan explained that he has a person off-site that does this type of repair. I would get an exact cost in a few days. He gave me a ballpark estimate. A week went by- no answer. I called. Ryan said they had been very busy and should get a quote soon, restated the ballpark amount. He seemed upset that I had reminded him of his timeline and said the repairer is one of the best in the area and if if I wanted to go somewhere else to have it fixed, I could. I told him not to be defensive about it, just give me an honest idea as to when I could expect a call with the actual cost and whether this repair could bring this guitar back to its original condition. He knew there was one blemish that could not be contained. The rest were repairable.I am putting some additional hours in at work to cover the cost of the repair, so the delay actually helps to pad my pocket if the cost goes higher. I inquired about the repairers name to get a sense of whether Im making a good decision about this place of doing business. Ryan wouldnt divulge the name of the repairer. I am rolling the dice on this entire experience. There will be a follow-up review, hopefully positive if the planets allign.I am editing this review. Actually, I will finish my revue. I got a call from Ryan. The guitar was repaired. I went by a few days later. Ryans ability to describe the workmanship was very accurate. Although one of the damaged areas was still noticable, it was as Ryan had thought the repair would go. All the other areas of concern were remedied by the repair work done. My hat is off to East side Guitar Repair for services rendered. Thank you Ryan and mystery repairman !!!!
The fellow that works there tried to convince me my guitar needed a $500 fret job. Said I can crown, polish, and level the frets but it might happen again so a fret job makes the most sense. Ive been playing guitar for 35+ years and thought that was pretty amusing, I just let him blabber about how a lot of high quality guitar makers dont really know how to install frets like he does etc.. haha. The neck I brought in was a brand new, hi quality neck. Ive owned 30+ guitars in my life, played professionally, and have had similar problems all fixed without an issue. I brought it to Portland fret Works, they fixed it up perfect for $171.*its obviously for the evaluation. Im experienced enough to know it didnt need a re-fret. If thats par for the course for your business, so be it but its not the standard type of customer service Ive been given in all my years of being a musician.
For the last seven years Ive had Ryan do bracing work, refrets, set ups, finish touch ups and more for me on a variety of vintage instruments. His work is consistently of the best quality and by itself, worth five stars. What keeps me returning to his shop though is how he treats and communicates with his customers. He genuinely loves his trade, and it shows in his work with the instruments and their owners.
Very experienced Luther. I have had him check over a few of my guitars. He came highly recommended by local musicians.
Ryan did an incredible set up and fret work on my acoustic 12 string and my Tele at a reasonable price. Also, didnt work on my 6 string acoustic as he didnt think it needed any attention. Excellent work, reasonable price, and honest.
Ryan is a top notch professional and a kind, down-to-earth dude to boot. He tells you what work he believes you need, doesnt push extras you dont, and takes the time to make sure youre satisfied with the work. I brought my guitar in today after he did a set up and replaced a nut and input jack on my Gretsch because there was a nasty buzz/rattle. He quickly located the problem, invited me back to his work bench, and fixed it free of charge, walking me through the issue and what he was doing to remedy it. He also made some other minor adjustments he thought would help, and they did! Afterwards he let me fiddle around with the guitar in the shop until I was sure all was assuaged. I am very happy with the service and will definitely be returning. Cannot recommend Ryan enough!
I went in here because my pots were noisy. Ryan helped me out right away - cleaned and greased em while I waited, and carefully inspected the whole instrument too. Not the biggest job in the world, but from what I saw it seems to me this is a place to trust. Thanks!
Took my Telecaster to Ryan for a simple Re-fret. When I picked it up several weeks later he said he forgot to put the correct fret wire on the guitar. Also, The strings were buzzing all over the fretboard. I had to put a correct shim in the neck pocket and adjust the truss rod myself to get into playing condition. This idiot calls himself a Luthier, Must have graduated at the bottom of his class.Save your money and avoid this place at all costs. Go to Portland fretworks is you need service. At least they know what they are doing!
Great shop, happily take all of my instrument projects to Ryan to work on!!!!
I am very pleased with ryans work and even though we had a snowstorm while alot of places were not even open ryan was and he completed the repairs earlier than he said. Awesome work awesome service and reasonable prices. I will be back here for all my repairs
Ryans the best.
Didnt have what I needed
Great shop, great dude!
