I came here because I needed a second opinion on what may or may not have been scar tissue to my eye, caused by a retinal tear. I saw Dr. Hoitink and I thank my lucky stars every single day that I did.Besides doing all of the general tests she also dilated my eye, which if you have never had it done is a strange sensation. Everything becomes ridiculously blurry for at least four hours and anything bright looks like the light of God. I learned the latter very well when she used multiple lenses to look inside my eye and determine the exact shape and whereabouts of my scar tissue. She took her time, she was VERY thorough. I never felt rushed at all and she answered all of my terrified questions without faltering. Scary stuff, like, will I go blind? What do I do next? How do I live with this???When you need medical help and it is about something as terrifying as losing your vision, you want someone who can be brave for you, with you, but who doesnt lie. It helps you find that moment when you can be brave yourself, and face it. She gave me that. One out of every thousand Doctors are probably that phenomenal, and she is one of them.Dr. Hoitink also took the time to talk to me about all of the different local Doctors whom I could choose to go see next, and what they were like. Because I did in fact have a retinal tear. She was very well versed in their practices, dispositions, experience level and quality of care. When she suggested a particular Doctor, she had multiple reasons why him over anyone else. Her counsel was very wise, and she was right. Her referral to that Doctor was a complete blessing.I also want to note that her prescription was far more accurate than the one I had initially received at Lenscrafters in the mall (good God, dont go there) and the numbers were not so close that between the two lenses you can tell yourself some small human error is acceptable. With Dr. Hoitinks prescription I could see farther better, and there wasnt any blurriness at the farthest distance. Something my Lenscrafters prescription lacked and I had to send back.I also want to mention Fran, who helped me pick out frames. Ive been getting glasses since the second grade and I have never had anyone explain to me what kind of frames would actually give me less distortion in the lenses based on the shape. THAT is huge, not just that she took the time to explain and help me, but that she felt like educating me was more important than helping me pick out a pretty frame. Pretty is nice, but it isnt always best. Especially if you have a strong prescription like I do.Another really amazing thing that Fran did was help me determine how to choose which frames fit my nose the best, and why. NO ONE has ever talked to me about that before. I was blown away by how kind, thoughtful, and helpful she was and I know exactly where I will be returning for my vision help in the future.Please ask for them by name. Dr. Hoitink and Fran (the amazing), they really care about your vision and helping you see the best you can. This is a rare gift. I am so grateful to both of them! I dont think they have any idea how much good they do in a day, but I hope this is a happy reminder. 💕
