This store is amazing! I’ve been going here since theyve opened, literally before I was in high school and now I’m in college. It holds lots of memories for me. I always walk in and browsing what’s new, but 9 times out of 10 I never leave without my comfort snack.

Long time customer and, at this point, friend of the owner. she is incredibly sweet, helpful, and funny. a unique selection of goods from Japan (and a few Korean/Chinese staples) from dry goods to snacks and housewares and everything in between. now that shes expanded the store is bar-none the best place to get snacks, groceries, and gifts for yourself or a friend!! if I could give her 6 stars I would!

Very nice little store with many things Japanese. I bought a bento box for under $30 that later I saw for over $50 online. They stock many items for cooking like soy sauce, miso, noodles, and sushi items. Lots of cutie kitten schtick too. Nice staff eager to please.

I love this place and the owner. Very cheerful and happy to help. Lots of items to choose from. Will not go back to the other Asian markets in the area. They were rude and not very helpful. One place, the owner calls her customers rude names while checking out. Not here. I found a home for my Asian cooking requirements.

This store is a gem! It opened around many years ago, and I never found it until recently. The owners of the store are very nice, and are more than happy to help someone find what they need. They have a very good selection of cooking products (including implements needed for cooking), and prices are very reasonable; it reminded me very much of a small market store I visited in Sendai. I cant wait to go back again. ^_^

My favorite shop in Richmond. The owner Chong is one of the most generous and caring people that I know. If you cant find something in her store that youre looking for she may be able to order it for you, just ask. Been shopping here for years for my home and my restaurants, Chong makes you feel like family when youre there. Cant say enough about Tokyo Market.

I wasn’t even in the store for more than 1 minute, I went to check out and didn’t end up buying what I wanted because the store clerk was so rude that I left.I suggest going to A-Tan Market if you’re looking for Asian food instead of this place.

I went tonight for the first time on the suggestion of a coworker. I immediately thanked her because this is my new favorite lil spot in town. The lady running the store is an absolute delight (idk what happened with some of the one stars) - so sweet and cordial. The store is packed to the gills but surprisingly organized. She maximizes her square footage and the collection is unlike any other market Ive been to, especially nearby. I will absolutely make this store a weekly visit because 1. itll supply my ramen fix and 2. I could talk to the owner all day long.

I’ve been really into Japanese food lately and when i found out about this market i HAD to check it out. I was so impressed with there selection of food! They have everything you could need plus cool little Japanese trinkets and kitchenware. If i could make one suggestion: if you’re looking to go poke around and spending some time see what’s in the store DO NOT go on a weekend. It is a decently small store and you won’t be able to stop and look at everything there on a weekend due to the amount of people in there. Other than that 100% recommend!

I love the shop, but the lady behind the counter told me that because Im not Japanese that I wont understand things in the store...I asked if a bowl textured on the bottom so the sauces can get air-rated while mixing it ...my question wasnt especially ignorant. If anything the lady should be proud to explain her culture to anyone who wants to learn about the culture. I will give the store 5 stars but the attitude seriously can hurt the business.
