I made several trips there to purchase pavers and stone for a pretty small patio project (pictured) and every time the guy at the counter, think his name was Andrew, gave me very excellent and detailed advice far beyond what I deserved. Couldn’t have done it without him and glad I went there for their quality products! Also the bulk rock sales are super affordable.

Disappointed today. Ive been driving from Sandston to buy mulch, compost, rocks, topsoil and other items for the past 20 years. I bought 2 yds of mulch three weeks ago and it was no different than the last 20 years. Today I bought 2 yards and the customer service was pretty bad. After paying, I waited outside for 10 minutes and a loader was headed my way. He stopped, turned the unit off and went in the building next to the main office building. After a couple of more minutes, I went back to the office and was asked he hasnt come out yet?. I said no. I went back outside and one of the guys working the register came out and that is when the second loaded showed up and put mulch in my truck. He asked how much and I said two yards, After dumping mulch in my truck he left. I expected more based on the 20 year purchase history. He never took the load receipt. See attached pictures. Is it two yards? It does not fill the truck bed. Of course it settles during the drive and maybe that is why in the past 20 years more was put in because settling is expected. Is this the result of being owned by Site One now? Lower level of service. I know I can buy mulch closer to home and probably at a lower cost. Im one who supports businesses that have or had a history of service and quality. I dont know. Maybe the time is over and I will find another source for landscaping products.WC Manns20 Years-TIme For Change

They are efficient and have a good selection. Prices are about the same as anywhere and what that means is some stuff is cheaper and some stuffs more expensive so probably worth it to call around. Pretty fast and roll in there pick up what you need and get out. They also offer delivery which is one of the reasons Im thinking Im rating four stars not five.I started calling on a Tuesday to try to get a Friday delivery. There was some question of the material I used so I sent pictures and the rep told me they would call me back in 15 or 20 minutes but they never did. When I called back to get a quote he said he needed to check a couple more things and would call me back but he never did. So that was Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday I called him and I had to call back in with some final measurements. Again the woman I talked to said no problem hell call you right back, but again he never did. The entire time Im telling him I have a crew here the weekend and I need to delivery Friday but for whatever reason there was just no appetite to take my money. Called again on Friday at that point they could only deliver part of my order which caused a huge delay because I had to go pick the order up myself. Why it took four days to put an order in I just do not know. Dont make it hard to take my money when Im trying to give it to you.So in summary, pretty good place but you have to stay on them if youre working on a time schedule and Im pretty sure everybody whos buying stuff from them is doing exactly that.

We ordered 5 tons of rocks from this company. The whole process was seamless! Matt, is the guy who delivered the rocks. He was so nice and helpful. After asking what we planned on using the rocks for, he decided the best way to empty the truck to make it easier on us to spread. His customer service was impeccable. We are definitely using this Pete Rose again, and hopefully we’ll get Matt again too!

I will not ever return here. Not customer service oriented. Made for established landscaping businesses who need supply. This is not a place for personal projects. Waited and waited and received no information when looking for a lot of material for a very large project, guess we weren’t important.

Ive been using their gravel, mulch, stone, and topsoil services for 10 years. They have reasonable prices, quality products, and friendly and careful drivers. They are always on time and are careful on my property. The people who answer the phones to take your order are very helpful and make sure you purchase the right amount. When ordering, you need to calculate your cubic yardage =( (width x length x height in inches)/36 )/27

Matt came and delivered our topsoil this morning. He was super thorough, careful, and polite. He was sure to deliver the topsoil at the end of a narrow driveway, as requested. Very positive experience!!

Matt delivered the gravel we ordered from Pete Rose today. He was right on time, and was very friendly and courteous. He also exceeded my expectations by dropping the right amount of gravel in 3 different spots which will now save us a lot of time in spreading it. He gave outstanding customer service.

They have good selection. You will definitely find cooler, and larger rocks, scattered around the National & State Parks here in Virginia, but its possible you arent allowed to take them home with you. Check your local codes. Despite having the name of a famous (infamous) Major League Baseball player, this place has nothing to do with Charlie Hustle or the Cincinnati Reds; that Im aware of. They are part of Site One Landscaping.So, it is a good place to go if you are looking to spend some serious money on rocks, stones, precast concrete, landscape blocks, pre-made firepits, pavers, boulders, etc...Next door, all your trees, shrubs, bushes, decorative grasses and more are available. They do offer delivery, but it seem to go a little smoother if you are picking up, but not by much. A lot of people use this place, their product is heavy and dangerous to move, and its probably good that they take their time doing it. If they do not have what you are looking for in-stock they have a variety of catalogues, etc. where you can order what you need or want.For anyone in Henrico County looking to make a miniature Stonehenge, or turn their grass lawn into a giant Koi pond/meditation destination...this is your place. Unless you have a work truck, dont expect to pick up much when you go. They arent going to load it into your Tesla. Maybe that will change when/if the CyberTruck is ever released. Drive slowly when entering the parking lot. No children are playing, probably, but large trucks are frequently entering that might crush you if you are in the way.

Ive used Pete Rose for several of my outdoor projects and have received excellent customer service every time. Joe is outstanding and goes above and beyond to help customers.

Matt delivered our mulch in the pouring rain. He was so helpful, helped me move some heavy planter boxes and placed the mulch on our driveway perfectly. Great service and wonderful product! Highly recommend!

We really wanted to like this company since we like to support local businesses. We were very happy with their communication and didn’t have poor customer service like some others mentioned, hence giving them 2 stars. However, their product was anther story. We “invested” in their 50/50 for our raised beds and were beyond disappointed in what we got. I see no way this could have been sifted and was shocked at what we found while digging in our plants—golf ball sized rocks, huge hunks of clay, glass, shards of plastic...at this point, we had already given up hours of backbreaking work to move our very large order of 50/50 into our raised beds and felt completely stuck on what to do. It’s not like we were going to dig it all out. So instead we tried to amend, and even with that additional step, our beds produced next to nothing, whether root veggies or fruiting plants. We certainly learned our lesson to carefully inspect a product before ordering and before accepting a delivery. I’m not sure what their other products are like, but their 50/50 can’t even pretend to be acceptable for raised beds; I’d call it fill soil at best, I honestly wouldn’t even use it for topsoil. We will be shopping with another company for our next raised bed project for sure.

I met Anthony Patterson today and I knew when I walked in,I was going to besatisfied.Anthony reconfirmed mycalculations,and seemed genuinely commited to my satisfaction. I have used Pete Rose Landscaping for various projects over the years. They have a great selection of hardscape stone and pavers, and also mulches and soils. The sales people are very helpful, as well as the counter staff. I highly recommend this place.

Was not happy.... Until they made things right!Got 10 tons of topsoil delivered to my house. Driver called me to say that he was on the way, but failed to call to let me know that he couldnt put it on my tarp because of an overhead power line. Instead he dumped it in between the gates we left open for him, which bent the poles on both sides.I had to rent a skid steer and trailer (cost more than the soil) to move clear the gates so I could repair and close them. Had to chain up the dog for 4 days.Called about it and was told that they would call me back after they could see what could be done to make it right. A few minutes later, I got a call from the driver apologizing for it.Today they called me and gave me back most of my money. So good to find a company that stands behing their reputation! I would recommend them to anyone who needs any yard material.

Extremely helpful staff. I called and confirmed i could buy a small quantity of some river stones to decorate with kids. They ended up giving me a bagful on the house as a free sample. Will return for some of the great larger rocks they had on site.

A visit to Pete Rose is like a visit to a rock playground. If you have never visited this business, than I cant think of a better time during this pandemic to stop by. Its all outdoors with all sorts of piles of stone, and piles of landscaping mulch.Take a bucket or two with you and pick through the piles and go back home and let your creativity run wild.

Matt delivered our mulch this morning. He was very professional, helpful and patient. He helped me put tarps on the ground and made sure that the delivery met all of my expectations.

They use a price list at the business not the price list posted on the website. So you may think your getting a good price there, when your not and they actual act like they may know that the website hasn’t been updated.

This place is amazing. They have everything you need in stone, mulch, gravel, and sand.I would differently say you need to go here.

Stay away!!! Friday 9/18/2020 I went to the store with the intent of buying chalet river rock to complete a project at my house. I patiently waited as they were busy. There was a gentlemen there that appeared to be a salesman selling stone. That gentlemen overheard the employee telling another customer they have been out of chalet river rock for quite some time and to go to Stone and Mulch Center if they would like to purchase some. Once given the opportunity the stone salesman spoke to an employee of the store who was very rude when the salesman offered to sell them the exact product that was out of stock. The employee said I dont have time to talk to you. That caught me very off guard seeing as the stone salesman could fix their problem and bring more business back to the store. Upon hearing this conversation I left the store and went to Stone and Mulch Center to purchase my material instead. Upon arriving I asked the employee at the counter how come they have it and Pete Rose did not. I was informed that the same salesman that was trying to sell Pete Rose stone supplies this yard as well. If you want to be treated like you matter I highly suggest not going to Pete Rose and go to Stone and Mulch Center for a better selection and much more professional employees.

The person walking the grounds could not have been more annoyed that we were there to look at gravel and stone for a project. It was our first visit to Pete Rose and we could see the showroom was closed but was not certain where to go to speak with someone. Instead of directing us he barked “Showroom closed” and hastily walked passed us. Ironically, he made his way over to another couple to offer a friendly hello and assistance. Thankfully, I have the option to go with another company for landscaping supplies.

Unbelievable variety of landscape stone and other materials. Counter personnel are extremely friendly and they load the materials free. Definitely your landscape spot and also sell trees and plants. We ordered landscape stones.

I had a great experience with the materials, service and delivery from Pete Rose. I would especially like to mention Jeri, who expertly worked with me to estimate and plan my hardscaping project. The materials were delivered on-time and the delivery drivers were great getting the materials where I needed them. Also, Jeris estimating skills were top notch as I had enough of everything (gravel base, sand, polymeric, pavers, wall blocks) and very little left overs to dispose of. I would definitely recommend Pete Rose.

I mainly go here for mulch, topsoil, and 50/50 compost. I have also gotten sand, stone, and pea gravel. Easy to work with, good prices, and they dont short you on loads. Only complaint is their hours are about the same that I work, so home projects are tough to fit in.

This place has great customer service and goes above and beyond for his customers. The yard crew that works in the stone yard work their butts off and really care about the customers.

My problem is with the way I was charged. I called about the cost of crush and run gravel and was told it would be a flat rate of $27 for a full pickup truck load. I have a short bed (6 foot) truck but still thought that was fair. After I prepaid I went to the yard and waited for the backhoe driver to load me. When the driver loaded the first of two scoops I saw that the crush and run contained a lot more filler or dirt than I expected.It appeared to have more filler than the crush and run I had previously purchased at Southside Builders.Before he loaded the 2nd scoop, I ask him if there was much difference in price between the #57 which had no filler. He looked it up and said $5.00. I said that is fine, I will pay the difference. He told me to go to the office and pay it and he would load it while I was paying for it.I went to the same lady and she said I will have to charge you the full price of $32.00 because it is a flat rate. I politely explained that only 1/2 of the crush and run had been loaded and the backhoe driver was simultaneously loading the other 1/2 load with #57 while we were talking.She refused to relent on her position and insisted on the full payment. I did not argue and paid the $32.I paid a total of $59 for which I feel I should have paid no more than the $32. Mathematically, I should have paid $29.50.This review is in protest of such a rigid policy that defies common sense or willingness to work with a customer. I probably would continue to buy from them as they have a good selection of products and their service was timely. However, this 1st experience left such a sour taste in my mouth I will make sure I understand their policies in the future.

Went to look at pavers today. 3 sales people behind the counter, not one acknowledged my existance. When i finally asked about prices i was told to go walk around and find something i like then come back to get a price. Noone seemed to care about helping so i just left. Never goin back

CRIMINAL- The owner, Pete Rose, Jr., literally assaulted me while I was in my vehicle in their parking lot, getting ready to leave. Having left my windows cracked, he attempted to reach in through the opening to grab me, at which point I immediately locked my doors. The opening was too small for his arms, so he proceeded to pull on my door handle in hopes of getting to me that way, but thankfully I had locked the doors. It was insane- this guys face was flush red and full of rage.So, what transpired to elicit such physically aggressive behavior towards a customer by an owner of all people? Im happy to share as it pertains to the poor customer service referenced by several others in these Google reviews. On October 20, 2015, I purchased a pallet of 100 cobblestones at $4.20 a piece for the purpose of building a border to my patio project. For those who have built a patio, you know how much work and time it takes, and I was unable to complete the border until March of this year. I also purchased $200 worth of gravel from Pete Rose in the late fall as a filler base, bringing my total spend to nearly $650 with another $400 of sand and gravel necessary to finish this project.Once finished, I had approximately 20 stones leftover, so that would equate to roughly $84 minus the 20% restocking fee for a total of $67.20 that I could put towards the sand I needed for the project. I saved all of the paperwork and receipt, assuming Pete Rose was a reputable company with a modicum of business ethics, only to be proved wrong by the owner himself. Here is the return policy printed on my sales order and receipt, verbatim:Return Policy: We accept returns of palletized stone & paver material only if it is in saleable condition, accompanied by original sales receipt; a 20% restocking fee applies. We exchange products with original sales receipt. No returns or exchanges on mulch or soils.When I arrived at the sales counter, the clerk referred me to the manager on the floor who told me they would not accept the return because it was past 30 days of the initial purchase. I asked to speak to the owner as the printed return policy says NOTHING about a 30 day policy. Enter Pete Rose, Jr. At first, he was completely dismissive and didnt even look at me when the manager consulted him. At this point, I provided the documentation I had wisely saved, and he turned combative. He never bothered to ask how many stones I had, much less look at them as they were in perfect condition. In fact, he went on to say that he did not care what my sales agreement and receipt said. He and the manager went on to assert that their 2016 policy indicated no returns would be accepted after 30 days and it was now posted somewhere in the showroom. He also mentioned something about 90 days during this debacle, further highlighting the inconsistencies. Again, I reminded them that the printed policy in place on my documents when I purchased these cobblestones did not include this language.It became clear that I was dealing with an irrationally hostile owner with zero respect for customers, so I had him reiterate that he did not care what their printed policy on my agreement said. Once he angrily did so, I thanked him, telling him that I had recorded his abysmal customer service on my phone for the purposes of sharing on social media and walked out to get in my car.As I was getting situated and buckling up my seat-belt, I suddenly heard a loud crash against my window, turned to look out, finding him cursing at me and attempting to grab my phone which was in my hand. Thankfully, I locked my doors at once because he then attempted to open my driver-side door. Mr. Rose was screaming at me by now, contending that recording his asinine was illegal, to which I replied he was currently guilty of assault. He ran away when I said this, back into his store, and a girl in her mid-20s approached the door where he had absconded. She put the final touches on the Pete Rose experience by yelling at me, Hey Dude, and proceeded to flick me off.

Dont tell your customers they can return any unused products and when they do come to return something you say no I dont give a damn if you have a enough or not you lied you lost my business all together its not how you do business

Purchased screened top soil the operator went into the shadows and gave me a dump load of clay. Paying $30 for a load screened fill dirt is false advertising and a rip off.
