The sales people are great and most of the time the service people are good too. However, I recently had my low tire pressure light come on because one tire was slightly low on air and I asked if someone in service could just put a little air in my tire and I was told it would take 1-2 hours! Needless to say, I did not wait. I was really disappointed that they did not have someone who could spare 5 minutes to put air in a tire. When it comes to buying new tires, I will definitely go somewhere else where they take the time to help you when you need something quick and small like air.
The process of purchasing a 2021 Subaru Forester was wonderful. There was no pressure in purchasing the vehicle and they gave us time before we decided to buy one. They also reviewed everything thoroughly with us. However, the check engine light came on shortly after two months of purchasing, and we are frustrated with the scheduling for a service. There are no available services for three weeks so we are cautiously driving the vehicle until it gets serviced. We were contacted about the problem through email and phone, there were not much they could do for us except to tell us that it would be okay to drive the vehicle. We are just disappointed that this had to happen. We decided to purchase this vehicle in hopes of no issues for a long while, but apparently we have to send it in sooner than we thought. They also offered a rental while the vehicle is being serviced, and we dont think we should be paying for a rental since the car is still new and should not be having problems at this point.
I would like to thank Van Bortel Subaru Rochester and especially Ben Zahm for excellent customer service and purchasing experience regarding my new Subaru WRX. I started considering a WRX/STI about 6 months ago and searched the Subaru dealerships in a 2 hour radius from my house. By far the best was Van Bortel Subaru of Rochester.Ben arranged two extensive test drives in both vehicles (more if I needed) where I was able to really understand both cars and the differences between them. Ben had great knowledge of the pros and cons of each and answered every question diligently.As I finalized my choice, Ben and the Van Bortel team accommodated all the options and modifications I requested. They did this willingly and in a great ‘can do’ attitude. The communication over this period was excellent.I was happy with the competitive price of my new car, the custom modifications, and trade in of my old vehicle.Overall my experience working with Ben and the Van Bortel team has been excellent and I look forward to keeping the relationship as I enjoy my new car. Get all of my maintenance here as its conveniently located for me to drop the car off and walk to work. Staff is always super friendly and helpful. Only complaint is they keep pushing for $300+ for 4 spark plugs. With minimal tools this can be done in a driveway in 45mins if need be. That price seems excessive but oil change and tire rotation etc is great and why I always go here.
When I come here I feel safe and confident. They do quality work, their customer service is freaking impeccable, and having worked on through them literally saved my butt. I bought a vehicle from a dealership that partners with this establishment for repairs on a Subaru. Come to find my car needed a 3 to $4,000 part. It took two weeks but I got to drive around with 2021 Forester while the work was being done, and when I picked up my car thinking I was going to spend stupid money, they told me that Subaru was going to cover all of it. This literally blew my mind and brought tears my eyes.You guys are absolute rock stars and now have two customers that will go through your dealership for life. Thank you guys so much!
We are from out of town and in Rochester area on a family emergency. The car needed 6000 mile service. We called Van Bortelfrom the car and set up an appointment. When we arrived for the appointment all went very smoothly. We will use this dealer if we are ever in the in the area again.
Truly exceptional experience! The customer service is outstanding! My sales associate Ben Z. was spectacular, very straight forward and patient. Stephanie the finance manager was very transparent and took the time to explain each and every line before I signed anything. I can not forget to mention Sergio my delivery/technology specialist who went over and set up my new Outback with me for over a half hour. I enjoy their service department. They are efficient and have loaner cars for $5/day. Ive left my car for service when out of town on a flight. Theyre very flexible. Would have give 5 stars but they have a habit of making my appointments at the Victor location even when I call the Henrietta service department.

My wife & I were searching for a very specific Subaru. Van Bortel Subaru which is 200 miles from my home in Pennsylvania just happened to be the only Subaru dealership within a 400 mile radius that had the EXACT vehicle that we wanted; model, color, trim, package & options. Everything ! We didnt want to travel that far to go through the car buying process. We knew what we wanted to buy, so we didnt need to see or drive it first. However, we never purchased a vehicle from out of state or remotely, prior to this. I personally worked with Jeremy via internet and telephone and in about a week the entire process was completed. Jeremy made this happen. Not only did they deliver the vehicle to me, but they also picked up my trade in vehicle. The paperwork, titling & transfer was made very easy for this 61 year old veteran. The entire cost to me was considerably less than if we were able to make the same purchase locally, plus there were no surprises or hidden costs. A team of two delivered our vehicle and they were as nice, knowledgeable and professional as Jeremy. To sum it up, this was the best dealership experience that we ever had. I have been buying vehicles here for about the last 20 years. They sell cars for a reasonable price with no hassle. Service has been good. Had a few glitches along the way but they have always corrected them to my satisfaction. At least part of my reason for purchasing a Subaru is due to good experience with the dealership.
I was very impressed. I bought my car from a different dealer who couldnt be bothered to fix a recall. Van Bortel not only came through but made me feel like I mattered. They will get all my future service business. Shout out to Bobbie in their service call center. Very pleasant and helpful.
The staff is friendly and the prices are reasonable. For Subaru work it’s good. Their waiting room is bright and clean if you are waiting for your car. Today, they even washed my car, which was a nice touch. If you have a Subaru you don’t have a ton of choices on where to take your car, but even so, you can’t go wrong.
From the start of walking in the front door they were very courteous and friendly I was amazed at how professional the staff were and how clean and neat the dealership was our salesman Vince was very helpful and knowledgeable if we do buy another Subaru it will be from them and we probably will.

I have returned repeatedly to Van Bortel every few years because they never seem to haggle over price -- the first price cited is as low as any will get and thats that. Some of us love bargaining -- I detest it. But I have been surprised that Subarus crackpot engineers design cars that run down their batteries and wont start if left idle for a few days and not driven distances. A car that wont start when needed can be DANGEROUS as well as inconvenient. Van Bortel seems to know this, however, and have now equipped my 2020 Outback with a convenient trickle charger to plug in while the car sits in my garage. For free! I honor them for it!
I just bought a Subaru Crosstrek from this dealer and my experience was excellent. Ben Zahm was my sales associate - I would highly recommend him to anyone buying a Subaru in this area. He was friendly, knowledgable, helpful, and efficient. I had to arrange the purchase from Pennsylvania and Ben made it very easy to handle everything remotely. I also worked with Andrew, a finance specialist, who was also very friendly and helpful.
Honestly, I never thought I would be this satisfied with the treatment from a salesperson/dealership. They listened to what I wanted, and accommodated in the most affordable way possible. They were in no way pushy, and actually showed me options to get exactly what I wanted, and for a more affordable price than I had figured to be possible.
Sterile environment, no enthusiasm seemed very uninterested in working a car deal. Was totally lowballed for my trade offering hundreds less then kbbs lowest TRADE IN VALUE and 5k less then resale for a 2018 with 16k miles in good to very good condition while expected to pay retail. #notamallard

Just traded in a car and leased from Subaru. I had a Subaru before my last car that I traded in and nothing compares. This location is so beneficial to so many people because you can now travel less distance out of the city, compared to going to the Victor location. I worked with Ryan who was great and had the car I wanted to test drive (which was at the victor location) and it was ready early the next morning. Their finance team also did some great work on the prince for this car. I feel as if both parties are making out. The location is new and stands out from the other dealerships on the same stretch of Road. Would always recommend Subaru to anyone.
I took my New 2020 Ascent in to Van Bortel Subaru in Henrietta, because the brakes where grinding & making a loud noise when stopping, they found the rotors to be pitted & decided to resurface them, Steve in service called me & told me what they found & decided to do, on the call I asked Steve why didnt they replace the defected rotors, a new car, less then a year old with 5700 miles should not be having brake issues. Steve went on to tell me about the 3 years 36,000 miles warranty, I explained to Steve, I know about the warranty, but the part should be replaced, if its already having issues. No one purchases a new car to have immediate car issues, resurfacing the rotors will only be temporarily fixing the issue & may cost me more later. I requested the rotors to be replaced & make sure the brake pads are also in good shape for a new car. When I went in to pick up the car, I was asked to sign the work order, when I reviewed the work order, I noticed it still said rotors resurfaced & the second sheet said replaced, when I started asking questions, I was told the rotors was replaced & the resurface paperwork was not suppose to be attached, also on the order a comment was present in reference to Good will repair, which I found insulting. Van Bortel Subaru suggested they where doing me a Good Will Repair favorite, by fixing a new car, that has a bumper to bumper warranty 3yr/36miles, i informed them that this was not a Good Will Repair, but a defected part replacement. Because of this, it has came to my attention that maybe the brake issue is happening to other Ascent customers & the repair isnt being logged correctly, which will make it hard to collect data for a recall later.At this time, I m still having problems with the brakes, not sure, if the rotors where replaced & when I called to make a follow up appointment was told they would need to call me back, seems they a booked out until July14thIf this is they way Van Bortel do business, find another dealership.

Great experience at VanBortel Subaru yesterday. After a nightmare experience in the morning with another local dealer-held trade in keys hostage, low balled trade in bought from same dealer, and forgot to mention they were starting at $2,000 above MSRP-the approach at VanBortel restored our faith in car dealerships. We happily accepted their first offer on our trade in ($1,500 higher than other dealer) as it matched what my research showed was a fair value. The price on our new Crosstrek matched my expectations based on website info, so I was able to go in knowing what price and financing would be from my calculations. Everything was open and transparent with clear explanations and paperwork done at the table in front of us. This is our second vehicle from VanBortel but I am sure won’t be our last.

This is my first review of any business. I dont normally write reviews but Ive received such exceptional service from Van Bortel that it motivated me to write this.I first dealt with Vince (internet sales) back in 2015 at the Victor location while researching Subaru Foresters for my 25 year old daughter. He was more informative than other dealers, was very straight forward, seemed very pleasant and offered a competitive price. I live in the Syracuse area so driving out to the Rochester area took an extra hour but it was well worth it. When we met Vince, he exceeded our expectations. He could not have been nicer, and the sales process was the best car buying experience Ive ever had. He understood that this was my daughters first new car and he really knew how to talk to her, my wife and me.I later purchased a 2019 Ascent and again dealt with Vince at the Rochester location. He was as professional, pleasant and honest as ever. Ive since referred a couple of friends to Van Bortel and they swear by Vince and the dealership.My latest experience had to do with some minor body damage on my Ascent. I initially saw it when I bought the car but thought it would buff out. I procrastinated doing anything about it and I realized about a year later, there was more to it and I needed a body shop to fix it. During a visit to the Victor location, I pointed it out to Marnie, the service manager. They agreed to have the car fixed for free, even though this problem was a year old, and even arranged to pick up my car in Syracuse and left me a loaner until the car could be returned.These people and this dealership are unbelievable. We leased three cars from Van Bortel Ford and always found there service to be pretty good. I had a minor complaint once and the GM called and the response was great. We are now driving our first Subaru. We have had it in for service twice and the service department is excellent. The first time the service was going to take a lot longer than expected. I run a small business and had a lot of running around to do. They provided a loaner on the spur of the moment. Second time, even better. They not only gave me a loaner, but some issues I thought I would need to pay for, they took to Subaru. It ended up costing me nothing and we are talking hundreds of dollars here. Kitty has a reputation for service, I for one will say they have there A game on. I will definitely be a repeat customer.

I am from out of town (400 miles away). Came to Rochester because my wife needed a surgery performed at UR Medical Center. Experienced a loud screeching noise coming from the front end of my 2017 Impreza this morning (unsure how safe it would be to continue driving with this problem). Called Van Bortel Subaru while visiting my wife in the hospital to try and get an appointment to have the vehicle diagnosed on very short notice. Explained to Heather my situation that I would be leaving the area to head back home on Saturday (400 mile drive) and she had Miller (manager) contact me to set up an appointment. He was able to provide me with an appointment within a very reasonable time frame and offer me a loaner should the need arise. Got to the dealership at the specified time. They had car diagnosed within 15 minutes. Fortunately for me it turned out to be nothing (possibly an obstruction of some sort between the brakes/rotor/backplate that was causing all the loud screeching). Car was not making any noise during their test drive (obstruction must have dislodged during my drive to the dealership). Very long story short, I was not charged for this diagnosis and they even washed my car afterwards. This is what I consider to be outstanding customer service. Thank you everyone at Van Bortel Subaru. I would not hesitate to purchase a vehicle from this dealership if I were a local resident.

Below is an email that was sent to the parts manager Shane Herrgesell.For a few weeks prior to the purchase Michelin 4S tires. My Subaru was equipped with Michelin pilot sport cup 2 tires. I had a whole number of drivability problems with those tires. The service department spent a lot of time trying to correct that issue. The work was done at no charge. They even went as far as replacing one of the tires at no charge as well. This was thanks in part to Shane the parts manager. There was also a loaner cars involved as well.Because of the regular rain in my area. The cup 2 tires we’re not a realistic choice. This is why the car would be now equipped with the Michelin 4S tires.I am thoroughly happy and impressed with the entire Rochester Van Bortel Subaru!“Hi Shane,As soon as I took the right out of the driveway and I made it 100 feet down the road. I knew then the car was a completely different vehicle.The tech must’ve had magic dust or super skills. The car handles completely different and 200% better than it ever has before!!! Wow, where to start... I guess at the beginning. So Shawn was my salesman. I submitted an online inquiry and he reached out immediately on his day off. He was very courteous and helpful. I laid out what I wanted and what I was looking to pay. He didnt haggle or condescend, he tried to meet my expectations and got me significantly more on my trade than I expected... that never happens! He got me into the wrx I wanted at a price and apr that I was happy with without having to haggle or argue. The whole process was super smooth and communication was excellent. Van Bortel has earned my repeat business and recommendation for anyone looking to buy a car. I was a little skeptical about the positive reviews on Google, who has a pleasant experience buying a car? But I have to say, buying from Van Bortel Subaru of Rochester was such a smooth operation, it was almost like buying from a vending machine, but with that human element we crave at the time we anxiously part with our (hopefully) beloved vehicle and replace it with the new (or new to us) family member.From the front desk women (wish I remembered their names, sorry, they were awesome!) to Pete, to the used car manager, to Brandons polite and perfect manner, I couldnt have been more pleased. The add to it that the coffee was sublime, the fireplace so classy, and Ruth... I mean RUTH - a delight of efficiency and right hand to Kitty for over two decades. Stephanie in finance was also perfect. I hope I didnt leave out any names!Back to Brandon. Brandon got back to my texts quickly and efficiently. Im not the easiest customer (not by a long shot) since I tend to be anxious, as many are when they are dealing with car buying. There were times when I sent a LOT of questions his way. He took it all in stride. I also asked him to air out the vehicle (new car smell isnt my fav, as it is largely chemicals to which Im sensitive...) and take off the body side panels, have the paperwork pre-printed, and and and... he did all of that like a champ.Thank you Kitty Van Bortel, for your awesome establishment and accommodating and friendly team.
I have purchased 4 cars from Van Bortel Subaru over the years. Their service is excellent, always done right the first time. What I especially appreciate is that, as a female, I am treated with respect, they are never condescending. Kitty Van Bortel is often present at the location, talking directly to customers to ensure things are going right. I appreciate the staff, especially our sales person Jeremy Vitale.

I have never had such a great experience as I did it Van Bortel!The salesperson was very helpful and not pushy.Not once did I feel like I was being hurried along to make a decision.The finance people were great. And at the end when I got my car a gentleman sat in there for 45 minutes explaining everything about the car.I would definitely recommend Van Bortel to anyone who wants to buy a car.By the way I love my 2020 Subaru Forrester!

Past experience with Van Bortel provided confidence to get the repair now. Of course, they exceeded expectations with their health and safety procedures. I knew I liked this store for good reason! In 2018 I bought a Crosstrek from Van Bortel (Victor). That purchase was seamless and very positive - and the car has been great. Unfortunately, the car was recently pilfered by some thieves; in particular they ruined the glove compartment.I took my car to get repaired; when I told Van Bortel (Henrietta) why I needed the glove box replaced they said they would do it for free. They also ordered me new manuals for free (the others were stolen) and gave me a brand new loaner for free for 3 days (the parts had to be ordered).Because they were so kind and the loaner was also nice I decided to take a look at their website to see what cars/deals might be available. I liked the 2020 Forester and so I put in a request for more information. When the sales person heard why I was looking for a new car he was also very kind and worked with me on pricing. I know what your thinking - he just manipulated the numbers - but I dont think so. I ran the numbers several ways and this is perhaps the best deal Ive ever gotten on a new car.Im writing this because I truly think Van Bortel deserves the great reputation they have in the greater Rochester community - they routinely go the extra mile. Also... I think its important to share any stories where kindness wins - and in this instance it has.
Super nice staff inside the work bays. Nice music in lobby. My only complaint is that the free wifi only worked sporadically, dropped off way too much, and for 1.5 hour wait it was an issue.
I was thrilled Van Bortel opened up in Henrietta but Ive had 2 consecutive poor service experiences. I sincerely hope they improve as I am not satisfied with the results of their service department. They are polite and professional, but the results have been very poor.
We recently bought a Crosstrek from Van Bortel. We can not express enough how great the experience was and how well we were taken care of by the entire team. From the young lady who greeted us always with a smile and making sure we were taken care of, to our salesperson, Shawn, who answered all of our questions, was never pushy and took excellent care of us, to Tammy who was very friendly and always patient, to Tristan who explained everything to us about our new car and answered all of our questions, to Kiara who went out of her way to fix a problem for us, the entire team was just pleasant, easy to work with and eager to make sure we were happy about all aspects of the process. On top of that, we got a great deal and a great car. This is not the experience we had at other dealers while car shopping, so I’d highly recommend Van Bortel to anyone!

Very pleasant. They did what was scheduled and was done in 45 minutes or so. Even washed my scuzzy car. Car is parked outside, under trees so it is always a mess.
The only dealership I’ve known to be fair, upfront, and trustworthy. Regardless of who you are they treat you like a serious buyer. Everyone is friendly and respectful. They won’t try to sell you anything you don’t ask for or want. I’d never buy a vehicle from anyone else.

This is our first experience buying from Van Bortel network, as well our first Subaru purchase. Have to say that the experience was quite pleasant. Drove 1-1/2 hours to visit their dealership as they had the vehicle in stock that I thought we wanted. We had the good fortune of being assisted by Ben Zahm who is a tremendous asset to the dealership! Our first interaction was over the phone. He was patient, professional and accommodating! We traveled to the dealership and Ben was very welcoming. The vehicle we were interested in was available and waiting for us to test drive when promised. We were indecisive about the original vehicle we inquired about, but Ben helped us assess our needs, and offered for us to test driving other models. Ben ultimately ordered us the vehicle that we decided to purchase which arrived weeks before expected! During this process, Ben displayed excellent communication skills and is a man of integrity. There was no pressure put on us what so ever. The entire experience, and other staff that we had the opportunity to meet and deal with, made the entire experience exceptional! It was worth the drive and we highly recommend working with Ben!

I didnt end up getting a car from Van Bortel, but, they left an excellent impression on me. The staff presents very well and are extremely professional. The show room was very clean and neat (It helps being a new building). They offer free drinks and snacks. The sales process was low pressure and I wasnt asked to fill out a bunch of paperwork to test drive. I would highly recommend Van Bortel Subaru in Henrietta based on my experience.
The first service for my new Outback was scheduled for mid-April. I really thought I’d need to put it off given the Pandemic. I was impressed with Van Bortel’s procedures to make routine service and maintenance safe and convenient. I felt good about the way my vehicle was cared for and that the interior was cleaned appropriately. I believe that sticking to the recommended maintenance schedule helps the car’s longevity. Because we keep our cars for a long time I’m grateful that I could feel confident bringing my car in for regular maintenance. Thank you!
