My 2005 Chevy Tahoes transmission failed in October 2017.Unfortunately, the truck only had about 80,000 miles on it. I was one of the unlucky owners of the 4L60E transmission that has this common 3/4 clutch failure.I researched the best transmission repair companies in the Gaithersburg, Rockville, Bethesda, Germantown area. TLC made it on my short-list. From there, I had to choose between TLC and two other reputable mechanics that specialize in transmission repairs.The other repair companies gave me a choice between a re-manufactured dealer transmission, re-manufactured PT transmission, a used transmission, or a rebuilt transmission.Ultimately, I went with TLC for a few reasons: 1) I felt RJ/Tony provided me an honest assessment of the root-cause of my problem. 2) RJ/Tony convinced me that a rebuilt transmission was the right way to go for my truck in comparison to the other options. 3) TLC provided me a competitive quote and assured me that there would be no surprise charges. 4) Tony who has > 25 years of transmission experience would perform the rebuild. 5) I like the fact that they are a relatively small shop that must meet/exceed its customers expectations as they grow their business and reputation.Its been several months since my repair and I am very happy so far. When dealing with mechanics I only want to 3 things- professionalism, quality service, and honesty. These guys delivered on all 3. RJ did a great job communicating and walking me down the process of replacing my engine. He is very informative and knowledgable. Most importantly he is a honest mechanic and professional businessman. My total bill actually came back lower than his quote because he did not have to do some repairs he originally thought he would have had to do. My first time ever leaving a mechanics shop feeling completely satisfied and not ripped off. If you in the DMV area in need of transmission or engine these are the guys to do it.

They did great work on my truck

One of the biggest fears of a consumer pertaining to the automotive business is to try a shop for the first time. The blind factor of walkng into a establishment and not knowing if your going to be taken advantage of.. Screwed over.. Over charged is a big concern for many. Including myself. When my vehicle broke down and i had to goto a transmission shop i was definitely worried about some of those things... From the time i called over the phone to inquire... Thru the entire repair process and to the day i picked my vehicle up after repair.. RJ and his crew made me feel very comfortable, he contacted me with daily updates and even went to battle with my difficult to deal with extended warranty people... RJ and his team are very knowledgeable experienced and willing to look out for the customers best interests. Not once did i feel like i was being taken advantage of.. Not once did i feel pressured. There is no competition locally... If you need transmission work TLC Transmission is your 1st and last call. Tell them Mr.Root sent you.

RJ and Phil are not only honest and straight forward but there demenors where friendly and very customer service oreintated. There reasonable prices are only matched by a desire to get it done right and the first time. When it came time to pay RJ informed me that my rear drum brakes had about 50 percent wear and gave me exact instrucrion how to fix them myself to in his words save me a buck. For as long as i live in this area i will be taking my buisness to them.
