Homebrew Heaven is the place to go to get your brewing supplies. If you ever have an issue they will work on finding a solution!
Owner is very knowledgeable. A big help to my projects.he is interested in me and my projects, not just interested in selling me stuff. Big reason I prefer to get my supplies from here.
Owner is an awesome guy, loved chatting with him about brew projects! Def support this local business!
Gary was extremely helpful and friendly, even for a new brewer like me. Prices are also amazing, comparable to, or better than online sources. Highly recommend!
An excellent little shop! The owner is very upbeat and charming, and very knowledgeable on liquor making! I will definitely be back again!
Great experience this morning learning about my equipment and the brewing process. Very friendly, patient and knowledgeable. Great selection. Will certainly be back again. Thanks!
They had lots of information, recommendations, and friendly tips as well as a good affordable selection of everything I could need. It did what it needed to and there werent any downsides that I noticed when I went there.
Others are right on when they say that Doug isnt the most outgoing guy in the world; however, people need to feel free to ask questions. He loves talking brew, but I think he is just a polite man that allows people to browse and make their choices. Its a great shop with a decent selection. I use it regularly, and I will continue to do so. I know I can beat the prices online, but I support the local, and it doesnt get much more local. Great stuff.
Great guy who owns the place! Super knowledgeable. A little more expensive than other places in town, but you can count on him having it when you need it anything you need.
I have been shopping here for years. Doug, the owner, has extensive knowledge on the brewing process and beer styles. He is the most qualified supplier of home-brew goods that i am aware of in the entire county.
Nice variety, store has most hardware, grain, yeast, as well as some wine and beer kits. Owner can be a little short but he knows his stuff. Good quality at a good price with great advice.
Gary is very knowledgable and a great help. Very excited to get my first brew of the year under way. Thanks a million Homebrew Heaven
Homebrew Heaven has been in business for years and the owner has helped me produce high quality ales and lagers. Have yet to do a wine, but when the time comes for that, I will definitely visit Doug again. Friendly and willing to take the time to help everyone from beginners to experts craft quality beverages. Two thumbs up.
Great place. Doug is an excellent resource. Start in also knits wonderful stocking caps!
Great local place to get what you need for home brew
Doug isnt the friendliest person in the world, but he can be quite helpful if you can get him talking and ask the right questions. Not a mean guy at all, just doesnt go out of his way to greet and ask you if you need any help. His prices are pretty comparable to brick and mortar shops, and given the limited space there is actually a decent selection of equipment. However his grain selection is a bit limited, so I will probably head up to Portland for my more complex recipes.
Great service...multiple times...the owner has answered my questions in a most patient manner. He has quided me in making my first wines and beers...he has been willing to taste and give honest feedback. He has offered very helpful suggestions to help me create some award winning wines.
Amazing service and knowledgeable owner has been super helpful to someone who is new to the hobby like me!
Despite not always having everything a large store might have Doug keeps a broad selection of ingredients and usually has the yeast you need. If not he will order it for you. The other benefit is his personal knowledge he has always been able to answer my questions. It saves me having to drive to Corvallis or Portland for supplies.
Great place, owner is knowledgeable and friendly, good stock of what you need to brew.
New owner, same shop, but totally different vibe. Check it out
Doug is always very friendly, and will readily offer advice if asked. While the selection can feel limited at times, his helpfulness cant be understated. Drop by if youre looking to get started brewing, or looking to pick up supplies for your 100th batch.
Ive read the reviews. So with this in mind, when I went in I was very pleasant and upbeat with him. In return so was he. I asked my questions and he was very helpful.Another lady went in same time I did and he was the same with her.I have a client that has gone in and he said that when he asked questions about making beer that he was treated the same way.I know I hate being jumped on when I go in somewhere so maybe he just lets the customer do their thing until they ask for help.
Found this place very helpful, informative, and usually have what I am looking for. My only problemis that its business hours are my work hours. So its hard to get the chance to go much.
This place is awsome they were very helpful and I would definitely recommend going there easy to get to lots of stuff dry and liquid malt light and dark and kits if needed, and equipment
Lots of good brewing info available.
If you want cheesy sales people go somewhere else. If you want brewing and cider making supplies from someone who knows volumes of information and willing to advise you regardless of where you bought supplies or even if you dont know what youre doing, Doug is the man!
Very helpful, will order in just about anything you can dream up.
Really good with his knowledge of what he sells and does. Has small selection but has really anything you need to start off and what you need in general.
Owner is very knowledgeable. Selection is kind of small but its generally what you need.
Great place to go. Local, Helpful. Knowledgeable
Very good at giving info n good $ worth
Everything you need including great advice!
They have everything I need
I wouldnt go back. No selection of anything! I found it very odd. Guy working wasnt friendly or helpful. I wont go back- mainly because they just dont have anything. Almost no hops, yeast, grain, supplies...its very odd.
Long review ahead...I moved out of Salem in 2006, but during the time I lived there, only two homebrew shops existed. Homebrew Heaven, owned by Doug Faynor, and Aycock Knives and Homebrew, owned by Curt Hausam. I will compare both, even though I am pretty sure Curt is no longer selling homebrew supplies. Curt ran his business out of a spare bedroom.Curt has a much better personalty than Doug does. However, the selection at Aycock was absolutely terrible. Out of 5 visits, only once he had what I wanted. He was always out of common yeast strains. I wasnt looking for Lambics, just smack packs that are common between brewers. Nope, he was usually out. My god, how many do you order Curt? Only 1 or 2? I would ask for hops, and 80% of the time his answer was I dont carry that, it is bred from XYZ hop. Ok so what? Im the customer, I have money, you are in business to make money, but you dont carry an item the customer wants? These were not exotic NZ or UK hops. Just typical things even Doug carried. Nope, Curt didnt have them. Im very serious. About 80% of the hops I asked for he didnt carry simply because they were crossbred. I was quite pissed with his attitude. I tried getting enough 2 row for a 10 gallon batch. He didnt have enough so he sold me DME which was considerably more expensive. I became so frustrated with him not carrying enough BASIC supplies, and his lame excuses, I never went back. Frankly, I dont care how great, wonderful, and funny you are. This is business. If Fred Meyer doesnt have what I want, I go somewhere else.In my 2 years visiting Doug, he only ran out of stock a few times, and it was only yeast. He always had plenty of hops, grain, and anything else I needed. Is Doug a great guy who is always smiling, cheerful, and friendly? No, definitely not. I didnt find him rude, just not a very customer service oriented person. When I go shopping for anything, I dont like to be bothered. Quit asking me if I need help. If I want it, I will ask for it. He always left me alone. The selection is good for the small store. As mentioned above, Curt used a small room and had a very small selection. I was not impressed. Dougs store isnt going to compete with Steinbarts or any large store, but this is Salem, not Portland or Seattle. His prices are fair for what he has.Doug is very knowledgeable and is always willing to help if you ask. He went into details with me how hop cohumulones work and what brewing salts do to water. The answer he gave me went so far over my head, but I was damn impressed he knew all that.I only gave 4 stars because he can be grumpy at times and he could have a slightly larger selection, but for Salem, he does a good job.For those who had a bad experience with him, if you dont mind the drive, I *highly* recommended either Above The Rest in Tigard or Brew Brothers in Hillsboro. Those who say Doug and rude and arrogant (perhaps he was, I wasnt there when you were), then you definitely dont want to deal with Kevin, owner of Main Street Homebrew in Hillsboro. I have dealt with him twice, and both times he was extremely rude, yet many people stand up for him and say hes a great guy. Well, Im the customer, its my money, and Kevin is an a-hole in my book.
Gary has all of the supplies that you need for home brewing!
Very helpful!

Doug always has what I need and helps me troubleshoot if I have problems.
Only visited it once, but the customer service felt very cold. Did not go back.
