My girlfriend and I stopped in on a Sunday afternoon. This was one of the only places open in Salem during lunch. Im glad it was open because it was delicious. This has been the best Italian food Ive had since moving to Portland. If you enjoy Italian food this is the best youre going to find in this area. Possibly the best Italian food in Oregon, at least for me so far....
Nice waiter, my spaghetti was good, the creme sauce one was the best! Good flavor, now I want more just thinking about it! Red sauce was pretty basic, good but basic. Enjoyed dinner. Heard they are closing, moving to a new location hopefully.
Tables that slide, croutons that are stale (not crispy), average pasta. Pretty good sourdough (though I question if its really made fresh daily). White sauce lacks flavor. Meat sauce is OK but the meat is flavorless and kind of average.Fast service once the waitress finally got to our table. Pretty dead on a Friday night.Im from Portland in Salem for the evening, wanted to try local flavor. I should have waited till I got home.
They were not busy, the waitress didnt bring plates for the bread, then 45 minutes passed before we got our salads and soups. They seated another group of 4 people about 20 minutes after we were seated. Theyre food arrived, they ate theyre dinners, then got dessert. It was a one hour and 37 minutes between getting our salads and getting our food. And in all that time the waitress never came back to check on us or get more drinks nothing!!! It was truly terrible service, the food was not nearly good enough to put up with crappy service. Go to Mangiare in Independence instead. Its quicker to drive there and eat than to wait for your food here. Seriously, eat elsewhere!
Went to the Old Spaghetti Warehouse on a Sunday afternoon, which luckily was not too crowded. I had a plate of spaghetti, half meat sauce, half white wine mushroom sauce. Although both were good, the white sauce was excellent and the sourdough bread that came before our meal was delicious. Our waiter was attentive and personable, I had a good experience and will go again.
I have eaten here several times. This time was by far the worst. I didnt bother reading reviews until after we sat down to eat. I try not to give much weight to bad reviews because people complain too much, but damn. Food was bland. Tasted like it came out of a can ( wouldnt be surprised if it did) our server pretty much ignored us the entire time and then left work without saying anything to us so we didnt even have a server for a while. No offers for more water or bread the entire time. And when we got our dessert, we were all brought one kind of ice cream and then told that they didnt have any other kind of ice cream ( then overheard the waitress offer someone else vanilla) no offer to change it to a different dessert. Sadly to say, this place wont be here much longer if they do business like this. Look elsewhere if you want something better than spaghetti Os and crappy service.
We take our 4 young grandsons here and its fine for them. This is not fancy dining. They absolutely NEED to update the furniture. Its beyond shabby and grossly uncomfortable. Some tables are so wobbly that you spill your beverages. The food is OK and its a good price for a family. Portion sizes vary. So does service. The bread is very good--hot and plenty of it. The salad generally is good and fresh. Pasta is OK. Dessert is included in the price of dinner, which is great for kids.OSW is a unique eatery for Salem. This could be a good restaurant with some better management and some professional level training for the staff. Right now, however, the vibe is like a sorority house that is running a fundraiser. Sometimes its hard to tell who actually is in charge, who greets, who seats, who serves who runs the cash register. It seems to be a collective effort and some of the jobs get overlooked. I hope they read this a take it as constructive criticism and work to remedy some things.
So sorry its closing and will be moving. Always nice friendly staff. Great sauces. Hurry and reopen in your new location.
My son has a friend who works there and one day a month or so ago they needed a dishwasher for the evening and this kid called my son to come help. I drove my son there and walked with him back through the kitchen to the dishwashing area. Oh. My. God. Food and garbage all over the kitchen floors and counters. Had to be careful where you walked. Absolute pig sty. In retrospect I feel awful that I didn’t whip out my cellphone and shoot video for the Health Department. The place is managed by a teenager whose parents owned the restaurant. Nothing but teenagers working there. An absolute nightmare. I hear that the building was sold and that the various businesses must move out soon (today’s date is 4/27/18). There was talk about this Spaghetti Factory relocating back to its old location, but now I hear they are changing their minds and NOT reopening due to a lack of customers. I sincerely hope they do not reopen.
A staple in our household. Good, affordable Italian comfort food. They are being forced out of their location because the building is being sold. Hope they find another place to set up.
While tasty, the spaghetti plates were cold. Wait staff acted like they couldnt care less. After taking my wifes food to the microwave, it sat for an eternity before the waiter brought it back.To be fair, there was a huge party upstairs, little boys playing on the stairs, jumping off onto the floor. Maybe Mom and Dad were in the bar?So much said for a quiet dinner.Ill be looking somewhere else next time.
Their food is excellent!!! also very friendly and nice restaurant inside. I love their sauces very home made tasting and wonderful I suggest going and trying it soon!
Love this place! Always will be one of my favorites. Thank you Bridget for giving us super friendly and great service. Hope to see you again!
My husband and I were wanting to have a nice spaguetti lunch in this restaurant. We stood for 5-10 min. and no one came to greet us. We ended up leaving and no one noticed! Will never go there again!
Good food and decent atmosphere. Nice place for large groups but I would recommend double and triple checking your reservation time. Okay selection of food on the childs menu. Large menu for adult meals. Variety of sauce selections for spaghetti as well as other food.
This place was horrible the service was very bad the dishes were not clean the food was not fully cooked and there was no flavor we waited over an hour before we got our food. We also waited 10 minutes with our salads before they came back and gave us silverware. We didn’t get offered drinks either until about 20 minutes and I recommend no one coming here as the service is very bad I’ve never had a bad experience like this before.
Meat in my vegetarian calzone and I needed to decline a replacement as it would be too late. They apologized and took it off the bill but then served dessert to everyone at the table except me, so I got to watch everyone eat dinner AND dessert. To go boxes were brought without us asking for them and they were put on top of the dinner my kids were still eating. We had to ask for bread and butter. Portions were small for price. Very disappointed as I am a big fan of The Old Spaghetti Factory and I was expecting the same.
Awful. Three of us went here on April 2nd. We were the only patrons in the restaurant at noon. That should have given us a clue how bad this place is. The spaghetti was cold and clumped together. The service was awful. Couldnt get our order right with the drinks. Brought out our main course when we were still having our salads (skimpy portion), tried to take our bread away while we were still eating it. Went to the rest room, absolutely needs a thorough cleaning. This is my first and only time I will eat here. Its like nobody cares.
I had the Meatball Sandwich with a Garden Salad, and a glass of Iced Tea for lunch. The portion size on the meatball sandwich was twice as big as it should have been for a lunch item, and the meatballs themselves were overdone and dry. The garden salad was a typical salad neither good nor bad. The plate it was on however should never have left the kitchen it was starred and had a large chip on the edge. The Iced Tea itself had no flavor differentiation from the water in my water glass. The glass I got my Iced tea in had a three inch crack in it. Needless to say I wont be returning.
Nothing about the place was better than meh, at best. The food was boring, the service was pretty bad (they said they were understaffed at the time), the carpet near us was pretty dirty and had some sort of bread crumbs or crackers all over it, and the prices were not reflective of the food quality.
Food was cold and had to send my daughters dinner back twice because chicken was raw. 5 tables of customers with raw chicken. It will be a wonder if they arent sued. Waiter was a North.
Good Minestrone soup. Thee calzone was adequate. Server was nice.
The menu was very confusing as to what was Dinner and what was A La Carte. When asked if the pasta was made fresh, the response was We cook it to order, which did not answer my question. I soon got my answer, and it was no. The pasta tasted like it was made, the frozen, then thawed out per day as needed. I dont think it was a Semolina pasta either as the texture was off. The meal starts off with a bit of French Sourdough, not Italian bread, French wines are served, French desserts. Dont call yourself an Italian Eatery when nothing about you says Italia.
Food is ok but customer service is still lacking. Ever since they moved to this new location, customer service has been horrible. Weve been in several times, but I think this will be the last. It wasnt even busy, yet it still took way too long to get waited on. This seems to be the way it is here now unfortunately. This is sad because personally, I love their black bean soup!
Food was ok, but the service was bad. Our waitress did not act like she wanted to wait on us and we were a bother. The hostess looked like she was on the way to the gym, in her spandex capris, t-shirt and tennis shoes. Another waitress had on leggings and a tank top. I think if they got a real manager in there and had a dress code and showed their staff how to wait on tables, they would get more business. We were there on a weekend night and there was not very many people in there. Now I know why.
We were under impressed. The service was slow. Myself daughters entre was missing the alfrado sauce and my husbands was cold. My mac and cheese was just pasta with cheese melted on the top. We will not be returning.
This place use to be so amazing when it was next to that little pawn shop. I went back here for the first time in over 8 years and was so sadden by the way the staff treats people. I am guessing they are underpaid, so give them a freaking raise. P.s the food was burnt too.. Kind of a crap time. Oh and the homeless gent outside of the restaurant talking to himself and the dudes next door smoking weed was not so much of a delight.. I hope you guys can get back to the old ways..
So shocked! The hostess seemed nice but I couldnt get over her attire. She wore a sheer white backless top over her blue bra. how do I know? Because I could see ALL of her bra. I mean in the front it was partially covered with sheer material but not at all in the back. I thought it was a family restaurant not a strip club. Very Disappointed. I dont know if the food was lackluster because I was so offended already or if it really was that meh. Seems like they are going out of business anyway there was a sign at the door about moving to a new venture and the restaurant would only be open for reduced hours. Probably should have saved my breath but it really was not ok to be undressed in public.
Kind of a fun place. Pretty good food. I would go again.
Describe my experience? What experience? It was crap...cold tiny plate of crappy food... Wait staff acts like theyre doing us a favor being there. Wow thanks for nothing! Waste of time, money and assaulted my taste buds!
My family and I have been here many times. I do like the environment, and the bread is good. However, I personally dont care for most of the other food there. The spaghetti sauces never taste right. I ordered a calzone, and was given a vegetarian calzone instead. Not the worst thing that could happen, but it tasted strange. Another time, our waitress was drunk. She was leaning on our table, and almost spilling things. She flat out told us that she had been drinking in the back room on her shift. I do personally like the spumoni that you can get as a dessert.
Disappointing. Our family went there Sunday evening December 6th. There were 10 of us, to celebrate 4 birthdays. First, they couldnt sell wine, their liquor license had expired, the coffee machine was broken, so no coffee. Our server acted as though he had something far better to do than wait on our table. He was pleasant though, brought our bread, we had to ask for bread plates. Finally got our dinner, and all of our dinners were either luke warm, or cold. Had to use the facilities, and when walking by the kitchen area, could hear plenty of jovial chatter, while tubs of dirty dishes were on the floor. The bathroom also looked as though it could use a good cleaning. We have been coming here for years, and was very disappointed. Is there a manager anymore? Now one more thing,, called their number at 7:25 pm on Monday evening, got the answering machine that says to call during business hours if you want to talk to a real person I think theyre doomed.
Tonights dining experience was horrific! First my dinner was made wrong so it was sent back. The second time around the chicken was raw! Had to walk to the bar and hollar in the kitchen just to find someone on the wait staff to report the raw chicken. The table behind me overheard me and said they had raw chicken too. Total of 5 tables that I know of had raw chicken! So much for a good birthday dinner!
Gross. The food is incredibly overpriced for the quality. The bathrooms are disgusting. And the staff was quite smug.
Took forever to get our order taken when it was dead inside. Ended up canceling order and trying to pay for just drinks when I was informed I would have to write down my card info because the machine was broken. That is way too risky. Wouldnt recommend.
It took one hour to get our dinner... My order was wrong but ate it because I didnt want to wait. Waitress never came back after serving us. Most of us were supposed to have desert with our dinner package and after waiting forever we finally gave up. Mac and cheese was dry, meatballs were so so. Just dont go there. Someone from our group went to find some help and found a bunch of the employees just in the restaurant sitting at a table, including our waitress.
My husband and I loved the food the wine was good. They need more staff the one gall that was waiting on us was the only one working. I saw another staff but he did nothing but stand around.
Slow service, poor food, and a strange atmosphere, and very weak mixed drinks.
Well worn and established place. Food was good. Great waitstaff.
Ive been coming here for years, and I keep hoping it will eventually get better. First off let me say in the positive their prices are fair for what youre getting and the food is usually pretty tasty. The staff generally have a pleasant demeanor when interacting with their tables.Im not sure if it is a family run business, because it feels like the employees dont care at all about the quality of work they are performing.Last night was another gem that resulted in myself and a friend in an irritated mood, and we were tempted to not leave a tip at all - the reason we left anything was that our waitress was nice. However nice doesnt make up for being that untrained on how to do a job properly. We waited in a mostly empty restaurant I might add an obsene amout of time to get served... our bread came... wed ordered soup instead of salad - which should have been served with our bread, instead we had waited so long that our bread was gone before getting our soup. Not only that but we could see wait staff standing around talking to each other not tending to their tables.I hope that the owners might take into account that their patrons are going to dwindle the more they neglect the state of things. I dont think Ill be returning, unless I hear of a major change in the way things are run.
Recieved super friendly and efficient service from Bridget! She was so nice and very helpful! The best service I have recieved in a while.
The food couldve been better but there was a lot of it and the service was great.
Salad wasn’t amazing, it tastes like it was from a bag, service took forever, food was okay, our waitress was impatient. do not recommend.
Interesting environment, very old and worn out seats. our hostess was wearing slippers and not very greeting like. thats ok but when we sat down we sank into our booths, smelled of musky dust, and the waitress did never came to see us for the first ten minutes. mind you the place had maybe three tables. could not smell any food cooked, I am sure chef Mic(microwave) works here often. to be honest this place needs Gordon Ramsey. stay away til this is fixed. we luckily walked out
Service was great and the food was delicious! The lady who served us was very nice and sweet, the only issue we had was the restaurant opened up 10 minutes late.
Good food good portions, long wait
The service was very good and our waitress made sure we were being taken care thank you!
Service is horrible. Bread and meal werent even hot. It was barely warm. Our waitress took so long with her service that a different waitress came and took care of us. Ill never go there again.
Waited forever for my food waitress was nice but she was busy with everyone else, Food was microwaved or something. Wont be back.
What? No linguine?! Well it is called the Old Spaghetti House. The spaghetti is good though.
Worst excuse of a restaurant. Never have I experienced bad service, bad food, and long long long wait time just to order something to drink!
Very good casual Italian. Feels more like home and hearty portions.
Great food Friendly staff and the decor is great :)
I went there last month, and on their website it said they were open, but once we got there they were closed. The Times posted on the building said they should have been open when we were there, and lights were even on inside, but no one answered the door or the phone.
I live everything about this place. Great food, friendly employees, and always kid friendly
Food was not good, only 10 parking spots for customers and sub par service
Good food good service..love the minestrone soup
Flies, dirty floor, sticky floor, bathroom gross, and crembruli served in a thimble food wasnt fresh either
Terrible experience. The bread was hard, the food was not good, the service was very poor.I had the chicken parmesan with fettuccine Alfredo upgrade. The chicken parmesan was 4 or 5 small pieces of chicken with similar sized mushroom halfs. It was ok. The fettuccine was basically al dente and the Alfredo sauce seemed like it was from a can and did not taste good at all.The staff were nice but mostly absent. We never got drink refills and no one checked on us after we got it food. Our total bill (two meals, one soda) before tip was $35.Extremely disappointed. We will not be back.
Great value for what you get. I like their calzones, and the bruschetta appetizer is excellent. Its a good place for solid, inexpensive food.
Great food. Our group made use of the banquet hall upstairs and it was excellent.
The atmosphere was great, service and food were good. I had more than I could eat so took some home and had it for lunch the next day.
Went to a banquet here, and while the food was great, the price was misquoted. Hard to imagine a server more rude than Bridget.
Great service, good atmosphere, lots of good choices, waitress was friendly and helpful
Not a lot of pasta options for lunch but good food
My waiter was very nice and patient . But the food was awful! We waiting 2 hours for the food. And a waiter had a dog in the kitchen also. It was awful food! Sorry to the cook!!! Not really go back to caulinry school👌🏻
Good food and good service. Only 3 stars because they closed for lunch now.
The lasagna was great, but the Alfredo needed something.
This place sucks staff are rud food takes forever and way over priced
Really Gross! They used to be amazing now everything about the place sucks! :(
Amazing service and great prices. Took the family there and we were amazed
Good food service is ok
The quality of food depends on which chef is working. Same with the wait staff.
Amazing food. I lived in salem for 5 years and always went. Now when i come up its the first place i go. Ive taken so many people their im pretty sure ive doubled their business. Ive never had anything i didnt like. Portabella soup is my fav though.
Delicious food, fun atmosphere, fine for kids, friendly
Went last night and had a pretty good time with my girlfriend. The only problem was staff having a argument in front of the customer.
Good service....so so food. Ill go back.
Yummy food decent price love the bread
Hard to go wrong with the delicious food here!
Spaghetti Failhouse: 3 attempts to make a veggie calzone for my wife and I; Meat in every attempt. I would be irate if I owned this establishment and my cooks wasted that much food.
Good food, good service, cool old building.
If i could rate it lower than 1 start i would, the food was dreadful. the only good part of the meal was the soda and the bread.
Love the food! To-go containers are cheap and flimsy. Not good for heavy pasta. Service is good.
Bestest foods eva!!! But a little slow just a little
We loved the food, the prices, the service and the atmosphere! We will be back.
I can make the food at home and it tastes better.
OMG their Broccoli Cauliflower Spaghetti is the Bomb:D nd of course their Lasagna!!! ITS MY #1 DATE NITE RESTURANT TO GO TO!!!
Our waitress was very pleasant. The food quality was less than average. We asked for a to go box to take our leftovers home. We were handed a styrofoam clamshell container. This is very disappointing, considering how harmful styrofoam and polystyrene are to the environment and public health. I hope they reconsider the styrofoam and start using a biodegradable alternative.
We made it before the rush but still ended up waiting an hour and a half. My wifes spaghetti was soggy and gross, and neither the server nor the hostess seemed to care. Never going back again. Good atmosphere wasted on poor customer service
Tried this place twice didnt even make it to oredering food both times, loud boombox music that sounded like nails on a chalk board.
My wifes spaghetti is so much better.
A knock off of The Old Spaghetti Factory, but it left a lot to be desired.
It - as great food, and friendly staff
Very good inexpensive basic Italian.
Good food, under staffed
Good food, good service
Not what we imagined the food wasnt all that they had some awesome antique stuff there but probably wont go back
