Tired of paying high prices through the Chevy dealership, I contacted several shops for an estimate to repair the transmission on my 2015 Chevy Camaro SS. I chose Monterey Transmission because of the Outstanding Customer Service I received from Tony. I recently had my 75k service done on my Toyota Tacoma. Tony, manager of Monterey Transmissions made sure that the service that’s being performed on the vehicle is of necessity. Tony also went out of his way to give me a ride to pick up the truck once the 75k service was completed.

I can not tell you how anxiety filled it is to have the check engine light come on related to the transmission and in search of a new shop after having the same person for years. Then the added annoyance of trusting someone to be honest, upfront and understanding. This was the place for that! Everyone that I spoke with that had frequented this shop had the same to say. If ever there is an issue again, I am driving straight to this shop.

Tony is professional and is willing to work through any problems you are having. I had a performance transmission 4r100 built by sun coast in my diesel that was having issues brought it in. Tony was in contact with sun coast trying to nail down the issue. Once the issue was diagnosed had it fixed in a matter of a few days. Tony is willing to show up after hours to accommodate your schedule. He has extremely reasonable prices and gets you what you need.

They did a TERRIBLE JOB on my 2011 Dodge Grand Caravan. They gave my van back to me in a WORST condition than i gave it to them, try another place this one STINKS BAD.Will not recommend this place AT ALL!!!! All they did is spray paint my Transmission and gave it back to me!!!!

My car broke down on a road trip and I was lucky to bring it here after a quick Google/Yelp search. Tony went above and beyond to help me get the part I needed as quickly as possible so I could get back on the road. He called around to different dealerships and shops in the area until he found the part and then even personally drove over to pick it up so that it would be quicker. Everyone in the shop was very nice and friendly, and the service was very affordable! 10/10 would recommend!

A small shop that makes quality repairs at a reasonable price (less than half of what the dealership was asking and no $150 service inspection fee). Had my slave cylinder replaced in my gen coupe 3.8. The clutch feels very smooth and tight. Despite Hyundai lagging on sending them the replacement part, these guys turned the job around quick and had my car out in 1 day after it was received. Glad I went there and skipped Peninsula Hyundai. Ill definitely return to them for future transmission needs.

If we could give 50 stars to Tony, his Dad and the entire team at Monterey Transmission, we would. Truly. They diagnosed the underlying issue with our cars transmission that no other shop, including the dealership, had been able to do. They rebuilt the transmission, on time and at the price quoted -- half the price quoted by the dealership and two other shops. And in their test drive of the car after the repair, they found an issue with a lug bolt on one of the tires, which they replaced and repaired at no charge! We are highly grateful to have such an exceptionally honest, customer-focused and enjoyable auto repair and tire team to go to. It goes without saying, theyll get all our business, and were telling everyone we know about them.

I’ve had my transmission and my shifter cable replaced here. Great place with a big facility. They were able to fit my party bus in and do all the necessary repairs. Great prices, great warranty and great customer service. Would definitely recommend this place.

I needed tires badly for my truck I had one flat and the other weather crack. I had spoken to Tony the owners son for a set of tires and he was able to accommodate my crazy schedule to the point he open the shop after it was closed. During that time other customer showed up, not nowing they were closed, for needed tire repair. Even though Tony was the only one there he still help everyone out . I cant tank him enough. Awesome shop and props to his parents for raising a good kid.

Fair prices and quality work. After I had my transmission and transfer case rebuilt I came back a year later and also bought a set of 4 new Hankook tires and got an alignment for my Silverado. I would highly recommend and ask to speak to Tony for great friendly service!

This auto shop provides quality and professional work. They offered me a free transmission inspection for my 2002 Honda Accord. Tony showed and explained to me that my transmissions fluid was foamy and extremely dirty. My transmission was slipping and jerking, it was internally damaged which is why it would shift hard and sometimes did not want to go into gear. They rebuilt my Accords transmission and installed it along with a re-manufactured torque converter for a great deal with a two year warranty. When I took it to Val Strough Honda they tried selling me a new Honda Accord and although they looked tempting, I do not know about the new CVT transmissions and my Accords gas mileage is just as good as the new 2018 Hondas Accord. Very happy customer and on the road again!

Our 2005 Dodge Ram (189k miles) was having transmission problems (sometimes the engine would rev up without engaging the next gear at around 20 mph, the rest of the time it would not shift to higher gears). I talked to the Technician and he said to bring it in for a free evaluation.He took a look at it and gave it a test drive. He gave me a thorough explanation of his findings and what was likely going on inside the transmission. All of his explanations made sense and fit the symptoms that we have observed. The diagnosis was that there are likely lots of metal bits floating around and burned clutch material. It needed to be rebuilt.After talking to my old lady we decided to rebuild it given that this Truck has a value and we heavily use it.He did not try to push any repairs and was completely honest about the situation.

No smog check but the guy was really respectful. Unlike J&M.

This review is over a year in the making - so if you need a new transmission or you arent sure if this shop is the right choice; either buckle up for the whole review or skip to the TL;DR at the bottom.About a year and a half ago, my wifes 03 Camry Solara starting experiencing tranny/drivetrain issues, and with 75k on it, we were not sure where to start. I took it to Toyota, who charged me $300 for inconclusive answers, basically a mix of Could be x, could be Y; so we want to repair it all for $6000 (Which for anyone who has even seen/driven a Solara knows they arent worth half that. With my wife attached to her car, we took it to another mechanic locally for a second opinion, who diagnosed the issue as a faulty transmission, with an estimate at $5500 - again, far more than the car would ever be worth. Finally, after calling around I found Salvador (Joses shop manager) who seemed to actually care about the problem and explained to me what the problem could be. (Although I am extremely knowledgeable about vehicles; having built a handful of blocks/trannys in my day, Salvador was extremely helpful in a non-descending way) (Additionally, no hablo espanol muy bien - and yet they did not get frustrated with me) After having the car towed to his shop, they diagnosed it within one day, and let me know I would need a new transmission, at a cost of $2300 OTD. Even though I disagree with the value of the car, my wife does not - so we took it. They had to order parts from overseas, which made sense since I cant even order replacement parts online for this POS car. A week and a half later, we had the car back and working like new! However, a couple days later - the problem came back - identical to before the work. We took it back to the shop, and they rebuilt the tranny again, at a cost of $0.01 (I think he charged me 1 cent to drive a point that they care about me) Problem went away for a week, and then returned. This time we had it towed back, and they brought in a tech to diagnose why it kept burning up the tranny. They were able to pin it to a faulty ECM (Engine control module) and even had me come in to speak to the mechanic about why this was causing the new trannys to burn up so fast. Salvador showed me the invoice Toyota sent him for the new ECM (ECMs are highly protected by manufacturers, you cant run down to Autozone and plug n play with one) which included a Toyota Tech to program the ECM. An extra $900ish later, they rebuilt the tranny and put in a new ECM and the problem was gone! For good this time, and I can say that with an extra 25k on the car and not a single hint of problems.Flash forward a month ago. My 07 F150 starting experiencing power train problems - and I took it to a local shop. (Rhymes with Marrys Truck and Auto; but starts with an L) This shop royally screwed up my truck. They charged me $2100 and left me with a truck more screwed than it started. Frustrated, I returned to Joses who offered to rebuild my entire transmission for $1800- which is less than half Ford quoted me. (Ford did a rebuild on this truck 65k ago, and it was garbage. They reused parts, did not QA the truck and seemed to not care at all) I brought my truck in on Saturday, and just got it back on a Wednesday (Although it was ready Tuesday!) After doing a detailed breakdown of what was wrong with my tranny, Salvador showed me what they did - which left me confident the problems will not return. I dont even know why I went to another shop - Monterey Transmission the the clear choice. As someone with 5 cars of varying age/value, I would trust all of them here.TL;DR - This shop is the clear choice for any transmission/powertrain repairs. They are very well priced, deliver on time and do quality work. Dont waste your time elsewhere.Also: Shout out to Joses son Tony - you are way ahead of your time. Coming from the hospitality business, I can tell you clearly care about customers.

My experience was super great! My Tahoe broke down on a road trip with my mom to Chukchansi hoping wed hit a jackpot but we came back with a Transmission that had blown out, bad luck indeed. We got towed back home using my AAA card, car sat there for a few months my husbands friend gave us a business card to Monterey transmission and they were located in Salinas and he had said he had a rebuild done there on his work truck and it was good like new. I called got a quote it was cheaper than the competitors especially than in Marina and offered a 2 year warranty with a rebuild of your own or a 3 year with a Jaspen Transmission one. But the price was right, the trust was established, the referral was good, and they even offered free towing, I declined their free towing because I already have free towing with my AAA card. Fast forward Tahoe was done in 3days I choice the in house rebuild saved me some money and with a 2 year warranty just gotta come back to service my car so it lasts for years longer, it runs like new now. Im ready to go to Chukchansi and win mama some big ones! Thank you Monterey transmission :)
