Sean and the guys at house and guitars are awesome. I bought several pieces of music equipment from them, and theyve serviced several of my guitars. Their service blows away guitar center, and theyre my go-to guys. They even offer layaway and a pawn service should you need it. Also theyre willingness to work with you is incredible, about a Jackson performer several years ago for about $400, and a year later they gave me $300 plus on a trade in / upgrade. Could be one of the best local shops, I got my beloved P bass here and been a semi regular customer for about a year. But, I’m going to be finding another place to take my business. This is by no means a scathing angry review deterring future customers, this is a good shop with solid selection and fair prices, many players will find what they need here. I’m just tired of leaving my main shop feeling like staff was, at best, annoyed that I even came in.

The only place I trust for guitar maintenance. After being sick of commercial maintenance and getting put on the back burner by other shops for months, I gave this place a try and they completely refurbished my guitar in less than a day. Personable staff and affordable prices.

Although the electric guitar selection was on the thin side due to the worlds current circumstances, they had a GREAT selection of amps and acoustic guitars. They did have a nice Gibson Les Paul standard that I jammed on while talking guitars with the gentlemen who work there. Really cool, down to earth guys that just love guitars. This is my shop of choice for everything from a set of strings to bringing an old, deceased, tube amp back to life. 10 stars!

Awesome place! Just got back into playing, fallen deep down the hole of pedals. I picked up a killer pedal at a lower price than reverb right down the street. I browsed a tiny bit and saw plenty of tube amps and used guitars all the right price. I will definitley be back.

Cool selection, the owner has never been particularly pleasant to talk to (like a majority of negative reviews) but in general its not a big deal. Unfortunately theres only so many times you can deal with it and after another rude experience I would recommend other local shops instead.

The owner is a super cool dude. They definitely have the most original and exciting stock of any shop around- most guitar stores deal with specific brands so you see the same stuff every time. Its a different experience every time you go to HoG; that, combined with the staff, make it my favorite shop in the country, let alone Utah. Go here.

I brought my old vintage Univox tube amp here for some TLC. They installed a new power cable so it is grounded and replaced the components that needed to be replaced. They even cleaned it and the tech gave me a hand-made switch for the tremelo. This is the first time since the amp was made that it has sounded this good!If I need work on any amps, this is where I will be going again.

We have purchased a guitar a couple years ago and had a great experience. When we went back a couple weeks ago, it was not the same. There were no Wassburn acoustic guitars and no decent acoustic guitars under 400. Very disappointed, looking for a beginner acoustic.

House of Guitars is the real thing. You can go to some other place to buy music gear and just get ripped off buying something because it is brand new and overpriced. House of guitars sell player gear that is obviously researched and priced what it should be. And it probably deserves some exposure for that. I cant find anything I would not buy in the store. I always walk out with a wish list. So dont go there unless you want actual musician gear that will give you actual head nods, from actual musicians. You are not fooling anyone. If you think you made a better choice, your grandma will give you a sweet head nod!

Pretty cool place. Fixed my amp for $35, although I never got a call from them about my amp being done. I even called them a week after my amp had been repaired and they told me they couldnt find it. Regardless, $35 is a really good deal and they even let me test it out in the store.

Such a weird and negative experience.I was going to buy an old used electric guitar off somebody on Craigslist, and we decided wed meet up outside here so we could run in after selling me his guitar so we could pick up a few things we needed (some new picks, I needed a couple strings and cables, probably pick up a strap, etc.) and then wed be good to go. Seems like a totally normal thing, and were about to throw this place some business.So, we meet up in the parking lot and Im looking at his guitar, everything is looking good, until the owner comes out. We ask how hes doing and he tells us oh not so good and proceeds to chew us out for selling a guitar in his parking lot and comparing it to opening a food stand in a restaurants parking lot.We then tried to explain to him that thats not the case at all and we were there as customers to shop in his store after we finished up, and whether or not we met there and shopped inside after, or met somewhere else and didnt show his shop some love when we were done, that I wasnt even interested in a new guitar. And its not like this dude I was meeting had a bunch of guitars in his truck and had just poached me on my way in the door to buy a new guitar.I used to manage a camera shop and I loved it when people would meet up at my shop to sell each other cameras and gear. If they decided to go used, its not like I wouldve sold them a new camera anyways. Then 90% of the time theyd come in for lenses, sd cards, film, etc, and Id make a nice healthy sale right there and have a new loyal customer.So Im just really shocked that the owner of this place would walk out to personally drive off a couple customers ready to drop some money on supplies in his shop simply for selling each other a guitar in his parking lot first. Its a real shame because I have heard great things about this place, and my only experience with them was pretty negative and just plain weird.P.S. For the owner: We two went over to Acoustic Music here in SLC and spent about $400 between the two of us after supplies and an amp we would have purchased from you. And the employees were more than happy to help me get what I needed and all set up in my first electric! Even though it wasnt from them. 5 star review for them :)*Reply to clueless owner’s response*You turned away two paying customers. Common sense is that you should have let me bring in the guitar I just bought and get supplies from you and earn yourself two new customers. Kind of a little hole-in-the wall place. Id been past it many times and never knew it was there until my sister gave me a gift card for it. Its small, but has some good used amps and instruments. The workers seem know their stuff. I wish I wouldve known about this place when I bought my last bass. I will definitely be looking here the next time I purchase a guitar, bass, or amp.

I had a set of pickups installed and a set up and on one of my Strats . Just picked it up today and couldnt be happier! It plays and sounds better than when it was new. I went in just to look, but came out with 2 guitars.

I had Mike repair my Hughes and Kettner tube amp. He warned me he was backed up and it would take while for him to look at it. I said that was fine, but it was only the next week when he called me and got it fixed. It was cheaper than I had thought and it sounds great! Overall it was an experience that exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend!

The owner and staff are fantastic. Knowledgeable, skilled, and helpful. Bass setup was kickass. Repair guy in back is always busy, because he’s good at his job. I’ve had two amps repaired here. Both are better than ever. Good selection of used gear. Fair pricing. Loyal customer for life.

Staff here have a vast knowledge of guitars and equipment both new and old. The BEST amp repairs at the best price! I have taken a few vintage amps to Mike and he has done an outstanding job of bringing them back to life. I am always surprised at how fair of price he charges as well. Do not hesitate to bring your gear here. The shop is also very fair priced and friendly. I just wish they were open a little later as it can be hard to get off work at 5pm and get downtown by 6, but that is more of how far I need to go.

This shop is the best. Great selection and prices. They are nice and knowledgeable. Mikes repair shop in the back is fantastic. He can fix anything and stands behind his work. Take all of your old amps to him and he will have them up and running fast. If you have not been here you should check it out.

Fried my 1970s solid state amp while working on it a year ago, house of guitars had it up and running again in just a few days for only a couple bucks. I thought the amp was toast, and they saved it! The amps still going strong.

Sean and his House are Salt Lake City institutions for all the right reasons. I’ve bought and sold gear here for nearly thirty years in different personal circumstance. It is THE place for used gear between its inventory, fair pricing, downtown location and the continuity of its staff. The only reason you’d go anywhere else is if you are absolutely committed to paying brand new instrument prices for a brand new instrument.

These guys are awesome. They replaced the tubes in my Marshall amp and re-biased it, and it sounds better than it ever has. They also fixed up my acoustic guitar that was in bad shape and it now plays perfectly. Very friendly service and very good prices

I had an amp repaired. The repair was simple and he charged $25. I bought the part. The amp works great. This is consistent with an earlier repair experience I had here. Fair minded and solid work.

These guys really know their stuff and are good at helping with repairs or any general questions concerning instruments, music, or even booking shows sometimes. Bunch of cool cats, I like working with them. They also have a great selection of amps, acoustic and electric guitars, basses, and other stuff like strings and picks.

If youre thinking about getting your guitar set-up, then stop thinking about it and take it here. When you get it back, youll be so happy that you took it here. One of my guitars took a few days and another guitar I had set-up took a day. Just depends on how busy they are. Either way, 100% worth it. So much smoother to play and you can hear the difference when you plug it in.Im not in the market to buy a guitar, but when I do buy another guitar, Im going here. They arent ripping people off and theyre not trying to vibe anyone either. Go to House of Guitars first!
