John Moroz is very knowledgeable and experienced in his field. I have utmost respect for him, his work, and his instruments. His shop is truly a gem. In his work you can see his expertise and dedication to doing the best job possible. I taken my instrument to him before and have been very pleased. Just yesterday I took my instrument to another luthier closer to home who claimed over 30 years of experience (and was rated 5 stars on google) and I was very dissatisfied by his work. Google reviews are not everything. Take my word for it. I have been playing cello avidly since 2014 and would recommend Moroz Violins over any other shop I have ever been in. Moroz Violins is worth the trip and the money if at all possible. I can not recommend him enough!Thank You Mr. Moroz

My son saved his money and looked all over for an affordable advanced cello he could grow with. Other dealers and luthiers told him it couldnt be done in his price range. But John Moroz found the perfect cello that sounded better than instruments twice as pricey. Beautiful too! He was awesome to work with. Amazing experience!

We havent settled on my daughters perfect violin yet, but John was wonderful to work with -- he had several violins in our price range and gave us plenty of time to play them. He is also allowing us to take them home to play for a week so that she can also play them with her professor, which is what we were looking for. Whether we choose one of his violins this time or not, we will certainly be visiting his shop for future purchases and repairs. Also, something that was really fun is that he took the time to show us a violin he is currently building so that my daughter can understand the process.Update: After visiting five or six violin and stringed instrument shops throughout the Wasatch Front and taking our favorites home to play and to play with my daughters professor in a concert hall, the violin she settled on was from Moroz Violins. She had now been playing out for two years, and couldnt be happier with her beloved violin!

This store was awesome. Even though we dropped in unannounced toward the end of the day, he stopped what he was working on and helped us try out several violins for my son whos great. In the end, we just bought a better bow with a carbon fiber center that was an improvement over his old one. We also purchased the violin we had been renting for a year. Moroz told my son that he was surprised by the range of sound he could get out of this cheaper violin hes had. He said he made it sound better than most people could. This was a nice confidence booster and seemed genuine. It was a great experience.

Cellists take note: John masterfully restores and sells antique cellos at very reasonable prices. He recently sold me a beautifully flamed old cello from Germany, c. 1920. It was beat up and worn when he got it, but he saw its potential and re graduated it, repaired cracks, fit a new bass bar, adjusted the sound post, added a new handmade bridge, did some other touch ups, and fixed humidity damage. Its restored voice is simply outstanding. My teacher, who plays in the Utah Symphony, was impressed by the cello and agreed that it was a great find. I play my new wooden voice as often as I can and am continually impressed by what it can do. John is a master luthier and runs an excellent shop. I cant recommend him enough.

Moroz violins is a smaller shop, but their selection of instruments and bows are high quality, and they provide excellent repair services, all of which are competitively priced. Where this shop really shines is their honest and fair business practice. I trust John and have never been disappointed working with him. I highly recommend this shop.

John is very skilled with antique instruments. He does not do unnecessary work. I received a bid for work on my viola from another shop that insisted the top needed to be removed to do the repairs. They wanted to charge me $1,500 do this work. I Ggot a second opinion from John Moroz. He said the top should not be removed unless it is absolutely necessary and in this case it was not. The repair was done beautifully for $120. I highly recommend this Violin Shop.

I was just playing my violin and had to stop to tell everyone that after having it worked on by Moroz violin I could not be happier with the results. I went for a new bridge and while he had it he found and repaired some other problems. My violin has never sounded so good! (I have had it reconditioned at other places in the past, but never had as good results.) Whereas before the repairs I was undecided how much I wanted to play, but it sounds so beautiful now that I dont want to put it down! I would definitely recommend Moroz violin over any other place I have taken it in the past.

I came to SLC originally for bow-shopping after the tip of my bow broke off. I started out at Peter Priers. They only had 2 carbon fiber bows in my price range, and the owner insisted that trying to fix my old bow would be futile and really expensive. I decided to try somewhere else to see if I could better options.I found Moroz two blocks away. He looked at my bow and showed me some that were in my price range, and marked some bows down that were similar to my old bow. He offered to show my old bow to a colleague who does bow repair and give me a reasonable discounted rate for the repair. He even helped me pick out a bow that worked with my instrument (which I really appreciated, b/c they were all pretty good bows, and I was having a hard time choosing). Finally he noticed a crack in my instrument that I had not noticed and offered to fix it and borrow one of his instruments, while he fixed it!! Moroz Violins is definitely my go-to for customer service and pricing in Utah!!

While in SLC my wife called and asked me to picked up a new A string for my daughters cello. Morozs is an awesome choice. Very personable and knowledgeable with comparable prices. The shops a little hidden but I highly recommend visiting them. Keep in mind this is not a big business shop.

He is a great man, and a great luthier. He recarved me a new bridge and plained my fingerboard. I was only visiting Utah for a few days and he was able to accomplish everything I needed him to in a matter of days before I had to leave. I also bought a beautiful H. R Pfretschner bow made in Germany during the 1950s-60s, at a really reasonable price. He is a really great person and luthier, and I would recommend him to anyone in need of quality craftsmanship and good prices.

I learned about John Moroz from my violin teacher, who recommended him as good at what he does and honest. I needed my violin bow rehaired but was hesitant to take it just anywhere because it is a very fine antique bow and I didnt want to compromise the value. When I asked John to evaluate it, he gave me an honest appraisal and explained the value to me as well. His evaluation contradicted another from another local instrument shop, but Morozs evaluation made a lot more sense to me. He also noticed that the button was not original (something no one had ever told me before), so I definitely wanted to replace it. Because I didnt have a spare bow, Moroz let me borrow one of similar value during the repair process, since I had lessons and practicing I needed to continue. The loaner bow was superb and appreciated during the time my bow was being repaired. The rehair would have been quick--no more than 2 days--but the button had to be made from scratch so it took longer--4 days. It also turned out a piece inside the bow required replacement. I am extremely pleased with the results. A fine quality rehair has made all the difference in the world, and the custom button, made true to what the original would have been, gave the bow a balance I had no idea I was missing. Dowd communicated further information for me to keep in mind for the future, which I appreciate. Moroz also helped me with a new chin rest and answered all my questions about my violin, giving me more background than I had received from an appraiser years ago. I am now recommending him to all my string friends. When Im ready for my next repair or purchase I will definitely go to Moroz first.
