Fred and his wife at the Bow Shop are AMAZING! They both are very knowledgeable, helpful and polite. They will answer any questions or concerns you may have. No pressure to buy a bow. He will spend as much time as needed to make you feel comfortable. You can shoot different bows before purchasing. Once you do purchase he will set your bow up prior to leaving. Would definitely recommend!

This was a first time bow purchase. Never shot one and didnt know much about compound bows or bows in general. Just what I researched before hand. Visited a few places and read some reviews and most pointed to this place. Drove up and first thought was that this place is small and there wasnt much to it. Well as always never judge a book by its cover. The owner and his wife were super friendly and helpful. Never tried to oversell me and set me up with everything I needed to start off with. Best customer service Ive had in a long time. Definitely earned my business. Deserves more than 5 stars.

They were great had a new string put on my Mathews bow somewhere else and it wasn’t working right so took it to the bow shop and he found the problem and fixed while I waited. Really nice and knowledgeable about the bows. Very Happy.

(10-02-18)I took my bow in for some service. Fred looked @ my bow and it must have taken him back 20 years. He looked @ it and gave me a history lesson. It tells you how old my bow is and how long Fred has been in the game. I was looking for a specific cable slide. They were the only shop in town that had it. While I was there the phone was ringing like crazy. I really liked it there. He treated me well. I recomend The Bow Shop. Its a great spot.(12-22-2018) I returned to the Bow Shop. I asked Fred to help me install a whisker biscuit. He takes his time using levels and special wrenches. Im very grateful for the work he performed on my bow. I like this place. Its a great store.

Fred is a very knowledgeable and friendly man. He takes his time with you and makes sure you are comfortable shooting your bow before leaving his shop. Fantastic shop. Cant say enough good things about Fred and Tammy. Fred spent quite a bit of time tweaking my equipment to get it set just right, then spent almost an hour with me to lay the groundwork for competitive shooting. All as part of the purchase. Stopped by The Bow Shop today and was very happy with the service. It may be a small shop but the service was great. Within a span of 30ish minutes Fred had a new nock tied, adjusted my peep, paper tuned, had me shoot on paper too, and gave this novice some pearl advice on shot execution. I will definitely be frequenting The Bow Shop. Fred and Tammy are good people!

Absolutely best bow shop in San Antonio. After wasting money multiple times at Mesquite Archery and Mission Ridge trying to tune my bow, I came across Fred and he had it tuned in less than half an hour. He is very knowledgeable, and I will refer everyone I know to him. Absolutely best experience in a bow shop ever! Please give him a try and you won’t be disappointed!

First time visiting this shop. Very friendly and knowledgeable owners and staff. Owner took the time to make sure I had the correct peep sight that helped me see my pins clearly with my glasses on. Then he made sure my arrows were shooting straight and showed me how my arrow rest was sitting low and adjusted it. This is the shop you want to go to. Period. My midrange Bowtech had a failure, took it in to get inspected. Despite Fred not being a Bowtech dealer, he diagnosed the problem, advised me which part to order, how to install it. Got the part in, installed it, tightened everything up, took it back in to get a once over and get some new arrows ordered as one of the other shops sold me over spined arrows... Buddy and Tammy got some ordered in the correct weight no problem. Then Buddy and I got into a conversation regarding arrow rests and sights. I never felt like it was a sales pitch, more of a coaching or a mentorship. I ended up with a new fall away rest and 5 pin sight, which they installed, adjusted and gave me a run down on how to operate. Buddy even offered a bit of coaching on my form. Despite how busy the shop was and the fact that I was just buying new parts, I never felt ignored, or treated with less importance than a person buying a brand new 2k Matthews. I am NOT spending my money at any other shop. Fred, Tammy, Buddy: you guys are awesome Thanks! Thanks for all the help!

Ive been to the Bow Shop with my wife looking for some components for my father-in-laws bow. Tammy was super helpful: although the merchandise wasnt in shop, she made sure Id be able to get it before leaving Texas. She couldt have been more dedicated to us. We had a wonderful experience at the Bow Shop and we recommend it.

Bought my first bow at a pawn shop and had no Idea if it needed to be set up or how to set it up. Went to The Bow Shop because they are close to my house. My first time there and Fred, the owner, was very friendly and helpful. He spent about an hour and a half setting up my bow to my body and even giving me some tips for correct shooting. Headed back tomorrow to pick up my new arrows that were a great price too. Will definitely continue to do business here in the future.

OMG! Fred and his wife are amazing! Their knowledge and customer service cannot be beat! I lives in Eagle Pass for 2 years and would travel to only to Fred to work on my bow! He is all about your needs, not trying to sell. I was thinking about buying a new now (I have a Mathews Z-Lite; I bought it used and Fred checked it out and times it up for me at the time). He asked how it was shooting. 1.5 groups at 20 yds was my answer. His reply shocked me. Why do you need a new bow? Also, if you are new to archery, he will teach you the basics, fast, easy and effectively and ALWAYS with a smile!I will NOT go anywhere else!

I went in this morning when the shop opened at 11 and was served quickly. I received friendly and courteous service that made me feel like I had been a long-time, big-spending customer although I just needed some inexpensive additions made to my bow. The owner took his time with me and gave me all the attention I needed in spite of being busy. I left with the impression the staff was knowledgeable and experienced and willing to share all that for a few bucks worth of merchandise. Definitely my go to shop from now on. Highly recommend.

Great place. I was up front with the owner and told him I was a newbie with bows. He helped me out all the way through by setting up my bow properly and gave me very helpful pointers during my practice shots. I left feeling confident and I would highly recommend this shop. They may be very busy but they are very helpful. Obviously the customers that buy products through them are top priority so dont be disturbed if they cater to them a little more while youre there.

The bow man Fred is awesome and his wife is nice too Id like to point out the negative review by E d and call bs these two people are very nice I remember the very first time I went in there the man took half and hour tweaking my bow! He turned out charging me nothing for that work... He gave me very helpful tips and even let me come in and practice on his target. What a pleasure it was to take my bow to The Bow Shop to have it checked out. My wife got me a bow for our anniversary after hearing me suggest it might be a cool thing to get into. Having no prior experience or knowledge of bows in general, I needed someone to take a look at it, ensure everything was set up correctly and provide knowledgeable guidance on the subject. The staff at The Bow Shop made me feel welcome and comfortable in an environment that could seem intimidating to new comers. Fred made a few adjustments to my bow and observed me shoot a few arrows to ensure everything fit correctly. We had been with Fred when we got told to go to him when we where there for the first time Fred is a pro when it comes to bows & crossbows but he ain’t a PSE dealer nor a fan of mesquite archery (do not talk to Fred about Mesquite archery 🏹) he well tell you honesty and we’ll help whom ever has a problem. He well help you as needed with your bow, and the bows he sells and the bow companies he works with is Matthews bows.

I was the first one in line a few weeks ago showing up a few minutes before they opened. I was greeted by being told there were others in line before me and it might be a while before they could get to me even though I was there before anyone else. After sitting there for about 30 minutes I was asked what I needed. I explained that I had just purchased my first bow and needed it set up to fit me. Fred looked at me like I was completely incompetent and wasnt good enough to be in his shop. He reluctantly agreed to work on my bow and said he could have it ready in a few days. I called back 2 days later and he told me he had more important customers and he wouldnt have time to even look at it for a few weeks. I picked it up that day and took my business elsewhere. I run a small business, too and can promise you that you dont tell a customer that you have more important customers... needless to say I will never be going back and can guarantee that I wont be referring any business to them. Completely unprofessional. Oh, and it is a hole in the wall, and not the good kind.

This is the first review I have ever left on anything but I had such a great experience. I am new to archery. I spent about 3 hours there on a Saturday. They replaced my D loop, filed down a sharp edge on my release that was causing the problem, showed me how to adjust my trigger, showed me how to adjust my pins, paper tuned my bow, and spent time helping me with my form all for $10. They are very knowledgeable and really enthusiastic about helping newbies. I ended up buying some arrows and I can honestly say I wont go anywhere else for my archery needs while I live in SA. I previously went to a different shop and the guys there couldnt care less about you. They seemed annoyed by me asking questions and they didnt seem to want anything to do with newbies. Id give the bow shop 100 stars if I could.

I have been going to the Bow Shop since i started archery. Fred has set up two of my bows, changed strings, and tuned my equipment on multiple occasions. Takes time to coach you while you are sighting in your bow and will answer any questions you have. Fred has NEVER tried to push products on me, this is not one of those shops where he will try to get you to buy stuff you dont need. If you are new to archery looking to find a no BS place to start, the bow shop is a great spot. I cant say enough good things about Fred and Tammy and I will be a customer for life.

Well bad experience with this place all I wanted was a arrow fleching fix but they are weeks behind I mean thats what the fat old lady behind the desk said. I wasted time going here just go over to mission Range they are fantastic helped me out really fast 10 mins to fix me up and super friendly. I would give the bow shop no stars if it would let me. In a few words bow shop you suk and will not get my business or anyone WOW!!! what great response to try to say you were trying to help your the one that told me it was weeks for a simple repair and I need to go to another place what a lie??? little shop out of a storage building Im not the one that was unprofessional if i could give no stars I would . Like I said a year ago dont waste your time going here unless you have time to kill and are not in a hurry to go shoot your bow. Small hole in the wall shop. He seemed more interested in selling you a new bow rather than taking the time to tune up my old bow as he kept calling it. My bow isnt that old, walked out with nothing done.

Went to The Bow Shop 2 years ago to have some arrows fletched, and thought they did a great job, and quick enough turnaround (within a week). Decided that when it came time to buy a new bow, I would use them. Fast forward to this year when I was in the market, I stopped by and they set up a new Halon and Ballistic for me to shoot side by side and see which one i liked. Unfortunately I didnt love either of them and asked if they ever had any used Z7Xtremes or Creed XSs come in from someone who upgrades every few years. Was told that they get a few like that but they sell usually within the day when advertised (sounds pretty fair to me). Was told the Creed XS only came in 50-60 lb limbs and was made for women which had me second guessing buying a friends bow. I really liked the shorter ATA bows checked out my friends again, and sure enough it had 70 lb limbs so I bought it. I wanted to get a cam changed out and get the bow set up and tuned for me, as well as get some arrows fletched. I was questioned about where I purchased my bow and when I said from a friend, they said thats what they told you to say in a pretty rude tone acting like I had gone and purchased from another bow shop. (I was priced around $1,400 for a new Halon totally set up ready to hunt. My 2 year old Mathews I bought for $600, totally set up to hunt, so buying used saved me $800). While working on my bow he commented on the cheap set up of my bow (Axion stablizer, AXT one-pin sight) and overall didnt seem really interested in working on my bow. However, within an hour I was set up, took a few shots through paper. Was told my grip was wrong, release was too long, anchor point wrong, etc... but I shot through paper perfectly as I figured I would. I am not a competition shooter and dont have competition shooter form, but have killed 20 big game animals with a bow in the past 5 years with this bad form. Ill take it as a compliment. Overall, setup was pretty quick and at a decent price ($45). I mentioned getting my arrows fletched and was told youll be doing that rudely, and I asked if they still did work on arrows, and they said not during hunting season, it takes too much time, etc. After paying and about to walk out, they asked if I needed them done soon, and I said no I can get them in a week or two, so they went back on their statement and said if they can get to them they will. Sounded great. Picked up my arrows a week later thinking okay, maybe they were just having a bad day when I went in. Took my arrows home and within 20 shots, my peep had flown off and fletching on all three arrows I used were coming off. I did not have this problem on my first batch of arrows several years ago but this time around they did not do a very quality job at all. And it cost $50+ for fletching a dozen arrows which I though was very steep, seemed like it was only $30 a few years ago. Guess they were right, Ill be buying my own jig and fletching my own arrows as well as investing in a press. They seem to be willing to get you set up, and tweak things when you need them, but I live 100 miles away and it doesnt make sense to make a special trip to town to install a new peep, put on a new string, fletch arrows, etc. Overall not a bad shop, they are pretty quick on turnaround and can get you set up correctly, which is why i think they are above average. You will probably love them if you live in SA and have plenty of time to drop by the shop and like to B.S. Seem like good people.

So i walk into The Bow Shop today and wow, what a great place. For starters I have never shot a bow in my life and a buddy owed me a few bucks. So we settled on a bow. A right-handed PSE FIRE FLIGHT 33 aka an ancient item. Fred and his wife identified it off the bat. Mind you I have no bow hunting experience..AR...and Sniper Rifles yeah...Howitzers yeah..bow...umm NO. Fred gave me the honest run down of the bow and i asked what he would recommend for a newbie. and he was honest its a preference so he strapped me in..gave me a Chill to fire and boom a little left of the bulls eye at 60lb draw...Now Im a left eye dominant shooter i can shoot right but left eye shooting is money for me...Ask my confirms lol Then he let me fire the highly adjustable Mission Ballistic..OMG what a new hobby this will be. A few arrows in (3) and one adjustment and boom arrow on the bulls eye. Needless to say i purchased the new bow..and Im having all the accessories swapped over. Im stoked....Another gentleman their was just as knowledgeable and he new my specs of the bat as well. Great place to do business. and i can see my self back in the shop soon for more toys...Now to find a hunting lease...lol and then bag my first trophy buck....
