$80.00 + tax shop supply fee added to Remove and Replace a Alternator. There are no shop fees that an Alternator requires its just $80 bucks they stick it to you basically a Ripoff fee added to your bill. I wouldnt bring my grand daughters tricycle to this Ripoff joint. Save your money go to a Mom and Pop shop save your hard earned money dont throw away almost $100 +tax for. Nothing.

They dont make you feel like you need to get a million other things done to your car that you never asked for like they do at dealerships. Very quick on way services like inspections and oil changes. I was on vacation with my family in San Antonio when out SUV decided to act up and not run right. Being 1000 miles from home was nerve wracking so we stopped in. Ricky was amazing! Great communication and super friendly. They got the parts and worked hard to make sure we got the suv back before they closed for the weekend. They even discovered defects in my tires that would have been an issue on the way home. He told me to call the tire shop we got them from in CO to see what they had a local affiliate. He truly cared about our situation and was one of the best customer service experiences I have ever had! Give Ricky a raise!

I took my car in to have the serpentine belt replaced. I advices Jaime that it was the 3rd time the belt busted. I asked them to check the pulley’s to make sure it wasn’t something else causing the belt to brake. I was given my car back with the new belt installed and after only driving it for 2 days there are worn out groves in the new belt! It also looks like the belt is not sitting correctly in second pulley from the top towards the bottom. I am going out of town this week and won’t return until early next week. I will definitely give this shop a call upon my return.This is an update to my previous experience:I have to say Rudy the owner of Potranco Automotive really came through for me. He called me to find out why I had given his business a 2 star review. I explained what happened and he immediately took action to take care of the issue with my car! I had my car repaired the same day and even though I had to pay for the problem to finally be repaired I didn’t mind because it was taken care of! Theses guys are great! When my transmission went out, they were able to quickly assess the repairs needed, and patiently worked with me and Operation Homefront while I arranged for the emergency funds to cover the cost. Theyve also helped with other minor work to my vehicle after Ive done much of the repairs myself (when I dont have the specialty tools needed). I get my annual inspections done here as well. My only issue is that they are sometimes a bit busy for a quick repair, but the quality and service is worth the wait.

Im going to preface this review by stating Ive taken my vehicle to this shop many times over the years. Ive always been satisfied with the quality of the work, but every time I leave, I feel like Ive been gouged on the price. Ive just never bothered to put the time into looking at the numbers until now.On this most recent visit, I had several thousand dollars worth of work done. None of the items were particularly surprising to me (and some even expected), as some of the repairs involved replacing original equipment on a nearly 11 year old vehicle. What is surprising is the markup I paid.I priced the total of all parts, sourcing either the exact replacement parts used or OEM parts (and used whichever was more expensive), and found that overall I paid around a ~50% markup compared to what I couldve purchased them for myself. This figure does not even account for labor costs, which Im assuming I paid a similar premium for.Additionally, there were a few other items on the invoice that left a bad impression with me:- An alignment was performed, but I was charged about double what I would consider the industry standard based on other competing shops in the area.- A surprise tire balance and rotation was added to my final bill, which was not discussed by the technician during the original estimate (it should be noted I couldve had this done for free at Discount Tire; had they given me prior notice, I never wouldve authorized this).- I was also charged $15 for fuel. The vehicle was dropped off and picked up with roughly the same amount of gas (under 1/8th of a tank, but the light wasnt on yet), and was driven approximately 33 miles while in their care.Im not going to speculate how much less I couldve paid by going elsewhere, but its a shame this will probably be the last time I take any of my vehicles to Potranco Automotive. Despite the quality of their work and the convenience of their location, I cannot justify the cost. Im simply writing this review so any new potential customers can go in fully informed.

I went in for an inspection for my vehicle registration, and it was very busy. I thought I would be there for an hour waiting since I didnt have an appointment. I was in and out in less than 30 minutes, and the inspection was cheap! Less than $10.

Then charged us again because we had to bring it back for the same exact issue within 24 hours of getting the vehicle back.

We used this auto shop for an insurance claim (NEVER AGAIN!) and everything seemed fine at first. But when it came down to the estimate... they decided to charge $90+ over what our insurance told them they were willing to pay and we also told them to obey what the insurance is going to cover even if it won’t cover everything, but they didn’t listen and now we are stuck paying our deductible plus another $100~. Very unprofessional on their part and we will never use them again and we wouldn’t recommend anyone use them after that experience.

I take my 7 vehicles there for inspection. The employees are always nice, efficient and fast. Love the choice of waiting indoors or outdoors. Both areas are nice.

Ricky was very educational, patient, and forth coming in every aspect of the process. He kept communication and followed through with the time frames he provided on diagnosis, repair time, and release of vehicle. I understand basic mechanics, and for him to break down and have a conversation on the matter was very surprising to me. Most mechanics instead talk down, and what they say is the only solution. The company also flaunts how long they have had the same mechanics there which is fantastic. For me it said the turn over rate is low, they treat their employees right. More importantly for me as the consumer, they must know what they are doing on the services of the vehicles coming in. I will be bringing my business here the next time I need assistance!

I was unable to diagnose which wheel sensor was throwing my code and required tools outside my personal garage. Within no time they found the sensor and my Jeep is on the road again. My transmission was going out . My car is a 2010 Kia optima I love my car it was also the last car that my husband and I bought together since he passed. I was hesitant just taking her to anyone but upon reading reviews and also noting that they are a AAA repair shop I went ahead and took her. I communicated with Rick throughout the whole time of my car being looked at and fixed. He was always available to me for any questions or any anxiety I may have had while my car was being fixed. I went for a last minute state inspection. I was able to get completed within an hour from the time I called to the time I left.

State inspection. Even though it was busier than Grand Central Station, I was in and out in a very reasonable amount of time.

Have used Potranco Automotive twice. Im mechanically inclined and even professionally trained in the Air Force, so I would know if they were scamming me. Instead, they are prompt about diagnosing, and so incredibly thorough. Of course they are so thorough because they want to up-sell you...but thats fair. They identify things that I would not expect them to. They are far above and beyond expectations! They are not ridiculous on prices, but todays vehicles just get expensive to repair! More than pleased, and would happily choose their shop over and over!Edit: I didnt mean to imply that the up-sell was a totally bad thing. Im a business major and love Capitalism. That said, these guys are incredibly thorough, and I was amazed by it. They in no way pressured me into any repair I wasnt willing to have done, but presented me with options. In fact, on one vehicle, they did just enough for me to get it in decent condition for trade in. They understood my needs and desires, and did exactly what I asked of them. This vehicle was 15 years old, and not worth putting an exorbitant amount of money into. They totally understood even though they did this incredibly thorough inspection. My air compressor finally gave out in my car. After reading the positive reviews, I decided to drop my car off here. Within the next two days, I received a call that my car was ready for pickup. The bill was pretty hefty, but thats the price we pay for a/c. The new compressor is amazing and my a/c is ice cold! Perfect for the heat out here in San Antonio. I highly recommend this place as they are professional and did such a great job with my car.

Holy cow. These guys and gals are AMAZING. First I made the TERRIBLE decision to purchase a vintage R.V. (without consulting Potranco Automotive first). They have a pre purchase inspection that is incredibly thorough. Had I known about that Im sure I could have saved on the asking price. Second, they KNEW I was trying to do this on a budget. They helped me determine what work was at my skill level and what would be best left to the professionals. And let me tell you, Don, Steve, and the whole team there are exactly that. Professional. Their willingness to work with the customer, give accurate details to explain the services needed, and (honestly) very reasonable pricing made this horrible purchase much easier to handle. They went out of their way to ensure my family was in a safe mechanically reliable vehicle that was over 30 years old. It was expensive, but not because of them! They EASILY saved me over 1 thousand dollars by doing repairs in conjunction with other work and guiding me on what I needed to do on my own. Ive found my mechanic in San Antonio, and I highly doubt any other chain establishment will provide the level of care and expertise that Potranco Automotive can provide. Most of their employees have been there for 20 plus years! I cant recommend them more. Great work. Not cheap and have to leave your car there for couple days until they get to it. They focus more on fleet work i think but still just a little bit better then dealer. Polo point right across the street and they do decent work also for a much better price. Depending on the problem I would just go to polo point.

I got a yearly inspection on my car, and the lady was fast and answered all my questions. When I got my car back the man was funny but fast too, and I realized that they had cleaned my windshield as well, which I appreciated.

Awesome place, everyone is very caring to my needs

I brought my truck in August 3 at noon knowing it would be seen the next day. August 4 truck goes in to see what is causing the dreaded Ford Death Wobble. I was expecting to get a huge bill saying all steering components needed to be replaced. To my surprise I received a call that same day saying only two items needed replaced I was stoked since my bill came to less than $500. The customer service person explained everything to me in great detail. After saying proceed with the repairs she said we will get right on it. On August 5 I received the call at noon stating all repairs have been completed and it is going on a quality control check. I picked up the truck at 3pm completely repaired about 24hrs after work started. I’m completely thrilled on the level of workmanship that comes out of this shop and will bring my vehicles here every time. Thank you Potranco Automotive.

They solved the symptom and not the problem. Took my car in for a battery issue. Although I let them know something funny was going on with the radio, they just changed the battery ( charged a lot of labor) and sent me on my way. A week later, the issue is still there and I’m stranded on the side of the road.
