Epic hip place! Really friendly baristas and staff, cool interior, and most importantly, delicious coffee and food! We had the Colima and the chichón sandwiches, both delicious and huge portions. The cold brew and espresso were delicious, as was the Swedish coffee.

Outdoor dining is spacious, open and nowhere near feeling cramped; variety of food selection is great and price is fair. Definitely come here to grab a bite and seat and catch up on any work. Outlets are abundant to power your laptop or phone. Only drawback is the super limited parking, so getting early would be the best bet.Deck is open after hours!

The vibe is great and I sometimes enjoy their sandwiches and bagels, but then again I sometimes don’t; the quality is very inconsistent. They also often don’t answer their phone, no matter how many times you call or how far apart the calls are spaced... I’ve tried for up to 30 minutes to call in an order for pickup, only to eventually have to go in and see that it’s not at all busy. Service is disappointing all around.

We were looking to try this place for the first time, and today Sunday we arrived at exactly 3pm, the time they close. They were about to close the door and I kindly asked to the lady If she could serve us, she unwillingly accepted. When we were inside and she was making the coffee I asked for almond milk and she got very upset, left the milk steaming and went to the other room to talk to his coworker, another person came a few minutes later to complete my order.I understand that I arrived exactly at the time they close, and that’s why I asked to be served as the last customer, I kindly requested that, I don’t understand why such an attitude, definitely not a good customer experience.Definitely not coming back.

We found Krakatoa by accident because it was within walking distance of our Airbnb, but if we make it back to San Diego, well definitely be back here. Our breakfasts were enormous and incredibly delicious. The volcanic theme was very cute, and our cashier was gracious with our indecisiveness. I wish we lived closer so we could go more often!!

This is no subway sandwiches. The sandwiches offer healthy and filling options for the food conscious. Vegetarian and meat options to choose from. Bread makes or break sandwiches and this place serves you quality breads from whole grain options to more traditional breads. Sandwiches come with a side of potato salad but I always swap it out for fresh fruit without a surge charge. They are also a café with lots of coffee options and loose leaf teas and lattes. It’s a casual spot for locals.

The atmosphere is dirty and seemingly neglected, both inside and outside. The music is so loud you can barely talk to the barista at the register. The coffee is absolutely subpar at best. It reminds me of a cross between Arco and Starbucks with their beans roasted so dark that they glisten with oil and no house-made syrups. As for the food, I have had better quality sandwiches for half the price. They are basic, bland and lacking in any sort of inspiration.

This place used to be amazing when I first moved into the neighborhood a few years back, but theres honestly been a steady decline in service over the years. I still visit from time to time to see if improvements have occurred & slowly I see some upsides, but certainly not how it used to be 4+ years ago. This place has great potential to be a 5 star spot again, but work is needed. Im hopeful & rooting for this spot to thrive again. ❤

Food was ok, had a breakfast bagel, it was good, coffee was good but was disappointed by the service. My first time at Krakatoa, I had heard good things about this place. Unfortunately my experience was not very pleasant. A person before me was greeted with a smile and enthusiasm, but when I came up to the counter the whole attitude changed. As a new customer you appreciate a great greeting to complete the experience but unfortunately this was not my experience. I will think about it twice before I go back or recommend this place.

I enjoy everything about this chill place. My friend and I went here the other day very hungry and sleepy. I ordered the Veggie (w/avocado) everything bagel, paired with an iced Caramel Mocha latte (w/almond milk). I loved, loved the coffee! My friend ordered the Pompeii sandwich. She let me try it and it was bomb!! We both agreed the bread used for our sandwiches were incredibly yummy. The music being played in the background was totally relaxing and maybe mid-tempo (?). Very conducive to reading, studying, writing, meeting with friends. I only sporadically come here, only because I rarely have the money to eat out. I recommend this hidden away place to anyone looking to unwind. ☕🍵🍞

Shady, laid back, chill crowd enjoying well planned menu items served with great hot drinks or smoothies that are FANTASTIC. This was one of the places that took a chance and opened when it was still a big risk and a dicey area, and drew the right crowds in and helped to set the tone and kick out some great, high quality product which really helped, and its been consistent for many years and has become sort of a meeting place with a truly great, shady outdoor seating area. Not to be missed if you wanna chill, do some work, and eat or drink a nice hot drink. Decent parking in back and nearby.

Worst experience I’ve ever had!! We ordered two sandwiches and a smoothie that we were planning to bring to Balboa. We waited patiently for 30 minutes to get the food a before I told the staff we haven’t gotten our drink or food yet. The staff was not friendly and simply said they’re still working on it and the smoothie will come with the food. After a 45 minute wait, they finally gave us the two sandwiches and the smoothie which we took to go. No apologies from the staff, nothing. I’m watching them prepare it and the cooks are using their bare hands to touch the food and saw one guy touch his hair while preparing a salad also. They looked like they had no idea what they were doing and it certainly didn’t look clean. It gets worse... we finally get to the park and sit down to eat it. They gave us the complete wrong order! The two sandwiches were completely wrong - we ordered one turkey and one roast beef. They gave us two salmon cream cheese bagels, potato salad, and mixed fruit...? The salmon bagel looked soggy and the salmon looked browned on the sides.I wish I could get my 45 minutes and $34 back from this place. The least they could’ve done was apologize for the long wait and given us the right order.

Its its own little cove in San Diego where youll feel as though youve gone to another state. The flavors their drinks and dishes have are as vivacious as names. The ambience is mellow and relaxing with a patio hidden underneath an enormous tree. Sitting too close to the smokers patio will force you to contend with wafts of smoke, but its a small price to pay for the coziest table there. The avocado in my dish was bruised and not the most flavorful, but still enjoyable to where Id be happy to visit again.
