Found this gem on Driver in, diners, and dives and it did not disappoint. We only had to wait 20 minutes for an inside table and it was totally worth it. We started with bottomless Mimosas and got through at least 5, so they arent super strong. Sarah was our waitress and we totally loved her. Everything was delicious from beginning to end. This is a must if you are in San Diego.

Easily my new favorite brunch place! Hob Nob Hill is located in a lovely historic building nestled in Bankers Hill and just a few blocks from Balboa park. The interior gives off lush, retro vibes and even boasts crystal chandeliers and a Wizard of Oz mural, making it a great spot for an Insta-worthy brunch. They serve up delicious breakfast, lunch, and dinner plates plus some beautiful desserts as well. I tried the crab benedict, one of their many eggs benedict options, and it was amazing. Can’t wait to become a regular here!

My husband & I & our guests have been coming to this restaurant for over 30 years. We have enjoyed the ambiance, the wait staff, and the very tasty food!! Since the beginning of the Covid-19 shut down we always kept in the back of our minds that this is one of restaurants that once opened again we would most likely visit first. We arrived to a totally remodeled restaurant. It is absolutely gorgeous, updated completely. Very elegant inside & out. A bar area is now included w/ happy hour specials along with specialty cocktails and excellent happy hour menu. Fresh daily menu plans from the chef which are very tasty and delicious. There are still menu items for breakfast, lunch and dinner that are still always in demand as they offer such a variety delicious tasting foods. This is one of the best restaurants in San Diego most definitely!!

Breakfast is the most important Meal of the day, some people say.Lived in SD for almost 11 years and today was my first of many more to come visits to this awesome institution! Best egg Benedict’s I’ve had in my whole life, seriously. Superb service. My wife and I loved this place were coming back with our kids soon.I tried the special machaca Benedict’s pictured here. My family and I came here on 4/25/21 and we had a really nice experience! Our food was fresh and our server was very sweet. I got the breakfast burrito and it was delicious! Food and atmosphere were great. However, our server might have been in over her head. She was very nice, but our food sat under the heat lamps for at least 20 minutes. There were 5 other tables that sat after us, and got their food before us. Some of them even finished eating before we got our food. Thankfully it still tasted good, it just wasnt as hot as it shouldve been. $80 for breakfast for 2 people.

Love the atmosphere. This was our first visit. They did a remodel during the pandemic lock down and the decor is beautiful. ( I dont know what it looked like before, but the current black & white gave it clean lines and a modern look). I love all of the old black & white photos as well. I had the French dip which was divine. My M-I-L had the Monte Cristo, which she loved. Our waitress was super friendly and she was happy to share some of the back story of the place. Service was attentive and very friendly. I heard that this is one of San Diegos best places for breakfast. My friend had the Huevos Rancheros which she loved. I was looking forward to my steak and eggs; the eggs were great, but the steak (which I asked to be cooked medium well) was over cooked, dry, tough, grisly and hard to cut and pull apart. I mentioned this to our waitress where I was given excuses (some meats are tougher than others...its not the cook, its the meat - rolling eyes, here because the cook is the one who allowed it to be served) and an apology. I was offered something else, which I declined. I was given a $5 credit for the meal. Good service, but I wont be back.

Four stars for attentive and friendly service, hearty portions and delicious homemade food! We had breakfast here and it was great.I had hot herbal tea and the hibiscus mimosa. I wanted a Bloody Mary but they do not have a hard liquor license so theirs is made with wine not vodka. I could not imagine that so I ordered the mimosa, which was delicious. My entree was corned beef hash with scrambled eggs and potatoes; they offer hashbrowns or what they call Orien potatoes, which have onion and green peppers. You also get toast or crumb cake. I chose the latter and it was great! My mother and I also shared wild blueberry pancakes that were perfect. When my food came out there was a hair in my eggs. For many years Hob Nob has been known as an upscale and classy location. Operation has changed from parents to children with major negative changes. Remodel with hard, noise reflecting floors and surfaces. Lower quality booths and menu items prepared with high efficiency low cost production. Sorry Hob Nob, but the improvements are all benefiting your profit margins and efficiency without delivering anywhere near the ambiance or high class service your parents were famous for delivering.Your signature Eggs Benedict arrived with correctly poached eggs, with processed ham instead of the previous high grade. The muffins were smashed on an unclean grill instead of properly toasted to preserve texture and wreaked of unclean grill conditions. Youve lost us as devoted customers with over a decade of appreciation for your traditions.

I dont know what it looked like before but it is serious gorgeous now.I was super surprised that it was not busy because it certainly deserves to be. Keep in mind this in not modern American cuisine like Juniper and Ivy or Kettner Exchange; this is scratch made, modern diner/cafe cuisine. Hobnob states its the best since 1944 but it is just typical mom and pop breakfast spotwith an attached bakery with dated decor. Customer service is excellent we were seated quickly our waitress took care of us really well, being that it was our first time she gave us extra goodies like muffins, coffee cake, and peice of pie, and different dressings to try with my salad. The menu was a typical breakfast menu from Chicken and Waffles, omelets and pancakes. Lunch is served here with a variety of different sandwiches. I wasnt overly impressed when I got my food because it was just typical breakfast food nothing really over-the-top caught my attention taste wise. Food (that was correct) was actually good, everything else about our experience was a nightmare.- Waitress recommended Hob Nob Omelette and it was brought to us without prime rib (the star ingredient). When asked about the missing meat the waitress informed us The chef is new. As a result we were discounted $3.50 for not having prime rib (see photo of receipt included). We were never offered the correct omelette, nor was there an offer to fix the issue.- When we asked for another bottle of Champaign (highly advertised on signs, internet, etc...) we were told let me check on how much we have. It was 11:30am and we saw at least 10 bottles served to other tables after that comment.- Heater was on next to our table (closest table to front entrance on 3/6 @ 11:30am) and the waitress asked my girlfriend you cold still?. Meanwhile the heater was on as we arrived.- To round out our wonderful breakfast, our check was brought to us while my girlfriend still had about 70% of her meal left and our bottle of champagne was completely full. Almost a punishment to her acknowledging that her meal was not what she ordered. This is my second review on Yelp ever and my last review was 5 stars. I clearly save these for the peaks and valleys and unfortunately this experience was as low as the Dead Sea.
