I love coming here to buy more dice each time to satisfy my dice collecting addiction! They have such a great selection of dice and are very helpful people. I also love how organized their store is and just how much Dungeons and Dragons items they have to offer. Great place! Thank you guys for all of your hard work to make everything amazing for us.
Many copies of a lot of new board games. Excellent selection of used games. A little more expensive than your average store.
The used game section is the only thing worthwhile here. No friendly faces, a smile or even a hello. Not once did someone ask us if we needed anything, in fact everyone in the back of the store just stared at us and looked annoyed we existed. I went to the register to ask a simple question and the gentleman had a cold response and then couldnt even look me in the eyes. On top of it, everything was super over priced. Yes a good game selection, but a negative experience for the gaming community.
Nice place for people and get together and play some role playing to bad they dont carry some belegarth Shields and swords .
Awesome place to hangout anf has a friendly envierment
Games empire has been such a fun place to visit whenever I come to California. From the recently-opened in game board games, to the wide selection of tabletop supplies, the store is always welcoming and fun to visit.
Game Empire is a San Diego institution. Ive been coming here since it was in its Hazard Center location, so long ago they still had computers in the back where you could pay by the hour to play Everquest.Theyre still well stocked on paint and most minis supplies, have a big selection of board games, and have always had an active game room when that was possible. They very much deserve your support, as theyve been a part of the SD game scene forever and I hope to see them continue to stick around for when we once again can all go game in person together again.
Love coming here, they just recently opened their game tables back up for use. Friendly staff, good selection of GWs products as well as WotC and other TTRPGs and board games.
Awesome store, great staff, great selection all around thumbs up.
Lots of cool board games and unusual things
These people are scalpers. No better then the scalpers online.
This has ALWAYS been my go-to place for games! They have a great selection, and they are always updating their selections. You can also find a ton of Kickstarter games here.
Expensive prices for most new games, but an amazing used selection with great prices.
This place has nice big tables for playing tabletop and card games. They have a good collection of games both board games and tabletop. They sell supplies, booster packs, and they sell discounted and used board games. I was personally there for the X-Wing tournament which both on the website and the in store posters advertise as being every Sunday. Much to my disappointment it turns out its actually only the first Sunday of every month. So after sitting around for about a half hour I had to leave empty handed having driven there for nothing. Long story short: well organized and stocked store, friendly staff, poor coordination with whoever is in charge of their X-Wing events.
I love coming to game empire. They have an amazing selection and the staff is extremely knowledgeable. They have everything spaced out so its easy to keep your distance from folks. I miss coming here for MTG tournaments but am excited to get back in them here.
In my experience, the best hobby game store in San Diego. Constantly updated selection and friendly, helpful staff.
Its amazing. Geek out on the wide selection for Fandom communities.
Great store run by great people. I never miss a visit here when Im in San Diego. They always have different things going on. They have tables where you can just go in and play games. You can meet up with friends and hang out and play games. They have some games available for people to play but most of these are older/less popular games...mostly people bring their own games. There are also a lot of people working on painting their warhammer figures. They have tons of games for sale (which you can buy and go right over to the tables and start playing). I have read reviews of people complaining about their prices...i dont feel it is fair to compare a brick and mortar stores prices to prices you can find on Amazon. Yes, you can generally find cheaper prices online...and then you have to wait for it to be shipped. The people that own this store and the people that work here are GAMERS. They LOVE games. They can help you find games that you will enjoy if you talk to them. Sometimes, being human and all, they might be distracted or doing work related things you dont realize has their attention...but if you just say hey, can you help me they will be happy to.You cant do that on Amazon...and shopping on Amazon you also wont have any chance encounters with famous gamers like Wil Wheaten...and you definitely wont meet new gamer friends shopping on Amazon. This is a store to hang out in and have fun. Food isnt allowed, but they do sell some badic snackage and theres an Arbys nearby. They also have a bathroom available for when you are there playing games.
The store is suuuuper awsome ... They got space for sit down gaming, loads of premium, casual board games and great for dnd and Warhammer optionall
Great little shop with games of all sorts. The employees were a great help and recommend a few awesome games for me to play with my sons. Would highly recommend supporting this small business in San Diego.
Nice shop, great owner.
Great selection of games.
Staff were professional and very helpful. I couldnt find the D&D books I was looking for, but I found everything else.
Game shops can be intimidating but the staff at game empire are always willing to help you with really really really dumb questions.
This place is super cool you should go check it out it has like every board game and a huge collection of pokemon cards they have singler cards and they have packs cool place would recommend 👌
I have been shopping with these guys since the days of them being at the Hazard Center. This place is as advertised the land of 1000 games and that is true. New games, old games and used games.Im talking Warhammer, Pokemon, Magic The Gathering, Chess, Puzzles, Dungeons and Dragons, X-Wing and various board games.Pre-Pandemic there were spaces (tables) where you can play games there, paint models and even learn how to play the games. There is also a used miniatures section where you can go through and purchase miniatures either in pieces or various levels of completion as well as painted. You never know what you will find there. They also have a trade-in program but that is one thing I dont focus on.
The only place I could find with Digimon Card Game packs and so very excited to have done so. Plus so many new board games to get now
Visited while on vacation - liked the store, but couldnt give 5 stars.Lots of games; found some I had never seen. The cashier was kind and courteous. Very deep stock. The mark-up on the games was a little high - my local store in Brea has many games at 15-20% less. But if you dont have a local store or you are on vacation, this will do quite well.
Friendly staff was super helpful! Thanks!
Nowhere to actually game or set up for a game like any other game store Ive ever been to. Dunno if thats covid reasons but never looked like they ever had anything set up for that kind of thing. I went to purchase warhammer 40k models and they were just thrown haphazardly on the floor and shelves. Literal buckets of citadel paints kicked to the corners. Huge lack of variety.
Awesome place to play adaptus titanicus
Decent little store with a wide variety of games. While I was looking for some older Dungeons & Dragons materials which they did not have, there was a small assortment of the newer 5th edition. I was still able to pick up a couple of Miniatures for my collection. Reasonably priced with a fair assortment to choose from. This place is surely worth checking out.
Its a good store for board games, they have a very large selection of games and prices are fair. You wont find any awesome deals but its not overpriced imo.
Probably the best shop in the San Diego metro area. Lots of space for game tables.
A wide variety of miniatures, puzzles and games. Staff are always ready to help in any way they can.
Local gaming shop. Always happy to pay more to support a local business there staff is amazing and knowledge. Have a ton of games in all varieties and there process are good. Do yourself a favor and check them out. They have magic tournaments. Dungeons and dragons adventure league and a ton of other activities.
I remember going there 20 years ago when they were still at Hazard Plaza to play Magic: The Gathering tournaments. They still have a great selection of games cards and activities. Its a great place to visit and hang out.
WOW. What a hidden gem. So many fun and unique things. Very well organized. Great assortment of different games and puzzles. Perfect place to find one of a kind gifts!
Great shop to get all your d&d games, and alot of other board games as well. I primarily go here for mtg. Decent prices, polite staff.
Probably the broadest inventory in north county, was happy to pay MSRP for a miniature...which Amazon is out of stock of and Amazon sellers are hawking at a 300% markup!
Great selection of a wide variety of games. Very friendly and helpful staff. My only real complaint is their inventory sells at or slightly above MSRP; I have yet to see discounts or sales.
They have a good selection. Staff is friendly but prices are way to high. I dont expect brick and mortar to keep up online prices but 100% mark up is too much for me. Definitely shop here before going online. They do have some good deals and youre shopping local.
Huge selection of tabletop games, every game you can imagine, friendly and knowledgeable staff!
Friendly people. Variety
The store was great. It took us an hour to see all that they had. Go shopping and fun.😊😊
Has plenty game stuff.
Ive been coming to Game Empire off and on for over 15 years. Even when I wasnt gaming that often this is where I would send people. Their staff is knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming to newcomers. This is truly a family friendly game store. Theyve moved a few times over the years and recently have a new location. Its even better than before.
One of my favorite places in Southern California! Friday night game night lets you try new games with interesting people. Great place to meet new people, make some friends, and support a great local business! Check out the calendar on their website for interesting activities and competitive gaming tournaments.
The staff are very nice and they have plenty of tables for you and a few friends to play your board games. They also have game mats and set pieces they will let you use. I highly recommend this play as both a hangout place or if you are looking to get yourself a new board game to play.
I have been a regular customer here and at their old location since I moved to San Diego years ago. The staff is amazing. Cliff is the owner and has an impressive knowledge of board games. He is remarkably adept at recommending a fantastic game for you after a few questions. I also play in MTG events here often. The regular magic crowd is great. The folks that show up most often are great to play against, and a great community as a whole.
Ive come here a few times for the Thursday dungeons and dragons games, and before that I bought a bunch of games from them. This place is the source of a lot of my more positive gaming experiences, whether its great game night suggestions or fostering a great atmosphere for first time dungeons and dragons players.Highly recommended for anything gaming related.
The employee working seemed so bothered that I had a question for him... He preferred to be watching YouTube videos on the computer behind the counter than actually working his job by helping me find what I was looking for. 2 stars, because this place used to be much better and friendlier before they moved to the new location - Im hoping it can turn itself around!!!
Has a nice wide selection of tabletop products and model paints for sale. However, as others have pointed out nearly all products are at msrp or above it. The msrp price point I can understand. But to mark common widely available products above msrp just feels off to me.
Really clean shop. Lots of selection from board games to warhammer 40k, D&D, they even have a really cool section of discounted game guides and board games
Lots of games, items, and supplies to make it your table top experience a fun time.
Love this place!!! Im not from the San Diego area, but whenever I visit I always stop by to get a new set of dice! An amazing, well organized, and friendly shop that has a FANTASTIC selection of dice sets! Would recommend to check out!
Wow! Board game store paradise!😀
Amazing game store! Honestly the best store I have ever been to around the world. Has a little bit of everything and a large stock of it. Well organized and put. Friendly staff!
Awesome place for all kinds of games. We went for board games, but there was a ton of card and rpg going on. Will definitely stop by again!
Game Empire always has such an expansive collection of games, its one of the best places to go window shopping. Staff is friendly and decently knowledgeable about the games they sell, although in my experience they are better cashiers than salespeople. Prices are never competitive, so expect to pay MSRP.
Great place for geeks and nerds and everyone in between. Youll find a huge assortment of card based, strategy, board games, chess sets, poker supplies, warhammer, dungeons and dragons, armada, books, dice, gifts, and all kinds of fun stuff the role playing/gamer geek would love. They have a great play area that theyve hosted for years and they allow drink. They always seem to have all the right games available at all the right times. A decent collection of standard family type games are available as well. Those of us who played risk, magic, or went to chess club at lunch will feel right at home.
This place is amazing and the staff is so knowledgeable. We have come here before back when it was the old store. My 6 year old picked out as stem game and the associate talked to him about it.Theres a bunch of games you can just come in and test out and the store has a great selection
Basically one of the last, full board games shops, at least when taking into account distance travelled. I still kind of miss the old store location/layout, but Im still glad this place is nearby.
Updating my review based on new location.Much cleaner, more spacious, more open. You can really see their selection now which is really pretty good. I still have issues with some of the staff but overall a much better store now.Almost a good spot. Pretty good selection of games and convenient location especially close to good food options. Suffers from really strange staff and poor organization and a general sense of clutter and lack of cleanliness.
Moved to a bigger location across the street behind the Arbys is this little gem. Shelves and walls covered with every thing you would need to play anything table top. Everything from independent boardgames, miniatures, card games and even chess sets are here. The staff has always been helpful and truly enthusiastic about talking table top. Spend the few extra bucks here and support a great small business.
Plenty of space and tables to hang out and play games. Restroom onsite. Great game offerings and variety.
Place has a really big selection whether youre new to games, want to buy a gift, or have to put together something for a Golden Demon contest. Staff knows everything about their inventory and wont hesitate to help you out. Large gaming area with snacks & drinks for purchase if you want a clean, well lit, & easily accessible place to play. They offer lessons, bulletin board, and various gaming formats (leagues, tournaments, contests, etc...).
This place was awesome! The staff was friendly and helpful plus I bought some Dungeons & Dragons materials for my home games. They have a wide selection of games to choose from such as Settlers of Catan or accessories for games like D&D.
Amazing selection, and a great place for both veterans and newcomers.
A very varied collection of board games, magic the gathering and dungeons and dragons stuff. The staff is very friendly and the people there are as well. Would reccomend to stop by and take a look at their ongoing events on their website.Parking however can be a bit tight depending on the event going on.
Very friendly staff and atmosphere! Thankful that a place like this is around. I hope to come back soon to see the night gaming events they told me about!
Best tabletop game ive ever visited.I wish there were more options like these.I was able to find everything i wanted, except for a dice tower since they were out of stock. Even with that i still left with more than i was originally planning. The wide variety of miniatures for d&d was my favorite part.Hope i can visit again soon.
Ive been coming here since I was a kid. I love it here. Friendly staff and a good community.
Amazingly helpful staff, I come here every week! I buy my board games almost exclusively from this store. They give great recommendations for games!
Almost night owl approved. Really fun and open fairly late, would not sell us games because register was closed. That was super awkward. Offered cash or credit, but they said no.
Great selection of games incredibly helpful and friendly staff. I took my 9 yr old in and they were awesome with him.
Large selection, knowledgable, friendly staff
Great spot
Probably one of the best places to buy games and play board games just north of downtown San Diego. They are always hosting gaming events during the week and weekend. The only thing that I would caution you is if you want to buy food or soft drinks while you are playing there, the prices are pretty jacked up. But it doesnt take away from the fact that I like everything else about this place to give it a 5 star.
Tons of board games (the kind you dont find anywhere else), jigsaw puzzles, and tabletop role playing games. There are a lot of figurines for D&D (and other tabletop role playing games) and Star Wars. They even have classic games like chess and monopoly. There is a lot of space in the back to play games. We went in for D&D. They have a ton of D&D books! I saw people there playing mahjong! Looks like a fun place to spend time.
Great table-top and board game store.Ive visited this store both at their old and current locations. The stock is better than most other stores Ive been too. They do cater more to the Warhammer 40K crowd, but also have other games and systems as well.Their new location allowed them to expand the number of tables available for various games, as well as allowing them to expand their available inventory. The only complaint I had was with some of the other customers, but thats not a fault on the store.
Great selection of board games and mini figures. They also have TCGs and accessories here. I have seen dungeons and dragons seeing played here as well as table top war games like warhammer. Staff is always friendly.
Nice place, been going to them every sence they were at kobey swapmeet
Pretty great game shop. Lots of mainstream and rare stuff. Lots of space. Cool people too. I wish there were more like this.
Huge fan of this local spot. Prices are decent and the regular game events held here are great
This a game empire the name is perfect. so many games comic books and gaming books, characters anything you can think of. the store also has great price so id rather come here then a huge franchised business. the staff were great at helping me out too
Staff was very helpful! I cannot remember the name of the gentlemen but he took his time helping us find a fun new game to play.
A very busy card and game shop. They have frequent board game, MTG and tabletop days and tournaments. There is a large variety of products to peruse and a good many tables to set up and play at.
Family owned. Close to major streets. Public transportation. Many places to eat. Great atmosphere. Great selection of games. Friendly / polite staff.
Love going to this store. Have a huge variety of board games and miniatures
One of the best game stores in San Diego. The staff was incredibly helpful and even provided some recommendations on how to get the best results painting the miniatures I purchased. I would give this place more than 5 stars if I could!
Great selection of tabletop game items and several tables for playing. Usually loud so be prepared for that if you want to run a game here. Tables are first come first serve.
Large selections of D&D supplies and warhammer things with some seating and tables available in the back to play. They also stock some MTG. Boards game variety is very good too.
