Just happened to walk down this street after lunch, saw this neat store and decided to come in. Good thing we did! Our visitors had fun looking through all the maps they had and happily found a map of Japan they were happy to purchase. The owner was knowledgeable and was able to answer all the random questions we had. I could tell that this was one of the more interesting parts of the trip that day for our friends. Thank you!
Map collection is vast and well-organized. The owners let me look through maps for almost 2 hours, and helped me find stuff I might be interested in, taught me stuff about the maps, etc. They were extremely friendly. I didn’t think I was going to buy anything, but as the beautiful antique maps drew me into their vortex of awesomeness, walking away with a late 19th-century map of Austria-Hungary was inevitable. They packaged it for me very nicely. Only thing is, if you’re not used to the antique map business, you may be shocked by some of the prices. Most will be 75-150 dollars, but they can be many thousands of dollars depending on rarity. For your conveniency, the store has a drawer with cheap maps only, but they are usually small and not nearly as cool as the more expensive ones. This is a great place for geography nerds to treat themselves to a nice map.
If you are into maps, particularly old maps this is the place for you. Very well catalogued, and user friendly so you can view easily.
Awesome collection of old maps and Mr Schein has so much too tell about them. We enjoyed the conversation very much.
Very helpful folks. It helps if you know the rough area and era of map youre looking for. Itd take weeks for someone to peruse the full collection of maps and artifacts.
Fantastic shop with loads of unique maps. Very knowledgeable and helpful staff. Found this place by chance while visiting SF, and I couldnt be more pleased that we dedicated an hour+ looking through the selection and taking home a few specimens. Youll leave happy if youre a fan of old cartography, or even if you just appreciate a well organized collection.
Owner is very cool. Awesome collection of maps
Mr. Schein and his staff are great! My favorite shop in the city. Im a map nerd and often spend an hour here just looking at the variety of maps and antiquities. Awesome place with wide rage of maps!
Great store with amazing staff! Really cozy atmosphere as well. It is rather reasonably priced in my opinion.
Amazing old maps (and some inexpensive new prints) and very friendly proprietor!
Cool store. More of a focus on antique maps, as opposed to books, but still well worth a visit.
A biased review from a personal friend. **BUT** a world class collection with two strengths- condition and price.
Wonderful people to deal with -- smart and incredibly helpful. The store is a treasure trove.
Fascinating place for any map junky. Check out the cheap map drawer for interesting things from $5-10
