Group of four of us had a nice time. The menu was featuring southern Italy. We tried a bunch of wines and one of the cocktails, all of the small plates, and some of the desserts. Two of us showed up early, but we were taken to our table. Our server was very accommodating and patient. He also helped out with making wine recommendations. Some nice touches were listing the wines from the flights on little paper doilies circling the stem. Would definitely go back for some of the entrees. One of the ladies wasnt fond of the sparkling flight and one of our desserts were incorrect(but was still yummy). All of the small plates were tasty, but I would say personal preference would dictate what Id recommend.
The best food in SF for at home delivery during covid. Weve been ordering from and dining with The Barrel Room since April and really enjoy all of their dishes — especially the Tuna Salad and Pork Sugo. The team is so friendly and really accommodating. Everything is fresh and they have a great selection. I would highly recommend.
I was lucky enough to sample the Spain inspired menu and it was incredible. The prime tri tip entree was absolutely incredible and I would eat it every day if I could. The real star of the show was Johnny the bartender in the speak easy. His cocktails and stories about the city are worth the trip on their own. If you’re in the area and you don’t choose to go here you’re missing out.
Loved it, cozy and great atmosphere, Harry was awesome in his eye for the detail, our server Hugo had an amazing smile in addition to his attention to us, the gin tonic is amazing even if Im not a drinker. Great place to take a date, the underground volt and second bar reminds me of Italian drinking holes. Must visit.
Perhaps my expectations were too high but I found this place to be average overall. The restaurant has great ideas such as wine themes for different countries - and the wines were good. The room was alittle dark and the food was not as good as the wine. The Brussels were good but alittle heavy, for example.
This place is fantastic! I visited for Restaurant Week 2017, and I will definitely want to return. This place is first and foremost a wine place. Their selection of wine is quite large, and a portion of their space is dedicated to simply tasting and lounging. That being said however, their food is by no means lacking. I was consistently wowed by their flavor choice, preparation, and presentation. The portions were rather small, leaving some to be desired, but the quality of the food and their intentional design of the menu to pair those foods with their selection of wine was quite good. I am unsure of their prices outside of restaurant week, but I will definitely consider coming back.
The restaurant is both cozy and open with its high ceiling with plenty of spacing between tables to still have an intimate dinner with your guests, even when its crowded. The staff is accommodating, catering meals for allergy issues and still having each meal feel like an experience withoit losing any quality. Their wines and staff knowledge of them will pair you a perfect glass to your meal and prefered tastes. The menu is regional and often changing but never disappoints. Our menu last night was from Spain. The food felt traditional with a signature that managed to bring back childhood memories of having Albondogas and yet experiencing it for the first time.Desserts were charming and worth sharing with each other, from the flourless chocolate cake to the tres leches cake with berries that paired with the 14 year old single malt scotch I ordered. This is a place youll want to make your favorite when youre in the city.
Went here for date night during restaurant week so they have pre-fixed menus. We had a reservation and were seated immediately. Staff was friendly and helpful. Our server made some great recommendations and served with a smile. We started with the coquilles st. jacques (sea scallops) and comte potato croquettes. Entrees were braised red wine wagyu short rib and herb marinated rack of lamb. Dessert consisted of a flourless chocolate cake and a black currant & dark chocolate bread pudding. (Pictures attached) Everything we had was delicious. Great company, great food, great wine and a wonderful evening. Great place for date night :)
Went there when the seasonal menu was around Portuguese cuisine. They recommended this typical Portuguese sandwich which was very good.I’ve tried the pasteis de nata / Portuguese famous dessert. It was ok, not as good as in Portugal. The service is great, the place also. Can be a little bit noisy for lunch if the restaurant is full. Will go back there when they will change the menu, for sure!
Mixed experience here. The space is lots of wood, cozy, and perfect for a cooler evening. Initially we had good service and our wine flights were tasty, but our cheese plate had moldy grapes and the resolution was to bring us new grapes. Not a replacement, not a discount or comp. The food was good but I’d say not worth the price tag. Glad I stopped in, I won’t run back.
Charming Speakeasy ambiance without too much kisch or trying to compete in a how dark can we make this place contest. Hosts were all knowledgeable, friendly, and informative as we learned about the house cocktails and history of the establishment. We ordered appetizers rather than a meal to get an idea of what they could do and we were impressed. Everything was very tasty and the wine recommendations appropriate. Will definitely return. Stop by the speakeasy downstairs before you leave, its worth it.
Awesome wine, great staff, perfect menu... always my go-to when in the neighborhood! Tuna Melt was the BOMB!
I was just checking out the gym of the hotel, and came upon this place. What a cool speakeasy place. The bar has a cool feeling while also being intimate. The drink menus changes every ten days as I was told. The drinks were definitely great. They were well crafted and tasted good. The place also plays some good jams, which is another added plus.
What a lovely surprise! Bounced around a bit trying to find a bar tonight, and wound up here. Didn’t even know there was a speakeasy! Justin was phenomenal, and made excellent drinks for our entire crew. Will absolutely be back soon.
Amazing experience from the moment my wife and I walked into the bar.The attention to customer service the bartender paid to us is excellent and exceptional - full of great suggestions for distilleries to visit in the bay area. And then the amazing artisanship of making cocktail drinks...; Needless to say, we enjoyed all of their drink menu except for two drinks because we were too tipsy.
THIS IS VERY GOOD PLACE
So good we went twice in a week!We were in San Francisco for a week and stayed at a hotel in the Financial District two blocks from this restaurant. It was just luck that we found this place and were so surprised on how good the dishes were and how great (and different) the wine list was. You can tell everything was selected with great care, making sure customers will have a complete culinary experience. I loved the ideal of trying different wines with the fairly priced 3 wine flight. Highly recommended specially for a romantic dinner with a great wine tasking!.
Great rotating menu with amazing plating. They also have a large wine selection accompanied by a great cocktail list.
Solid atmosphere, amazing food! Especially the dessert with the pair. I sat at the bar and Dylan was amazing. Helped with navigating the menu when I was torn and bar when the Mcallen 18 wasnt available. Thank you for a great dinner!
My favorite new find this year. A very large selection of great wines, very friendly knowledgeable staff, and enough variety of food to please everyone in the party. All around, it was a great experience.
Came here for some small plates and drinks before seeing Brooklyn at the Embarcadero Center Cinema. They have a few different seating areas and we were in the wine bar section. Service was so-so but the delicious cocktails and food get The Barrel Room 4 stars from me. Try the crispy brussels sprouts with bacon!
Amazing Staff and service. Very good food. They went out of their way to accommodate our party of 7 including making sure our 2 year old was comfortable.
Awesome hidden gem! This place is in a random hotel and looked a bit shady on the outside. Once inside, its a cute wine bar with dim lighting and cozy seats. The employees really knew their wine and gave some good recommendations. Good for dates, but not for large groups.
Very nice bar, good drinks and hors doeuvre. I can spend hours socializing. The atmosphere is warm, laid back and easy.
Great selection and knowledgeable staff. The cocktails were amazing!
Service was so so. Drinks selection seemingly on point. Tried their spritzer and it was yummy.
Atmosphere is great and “gezellig” as we say in Dutch. Food is really good and apparently the menu changes every 4 months, which is impressive considering the authentic Italian food that came out during our night here. The staff was friendly and helpful.
Great wine selection and delightful food! Small plates and entrees were both fantastic!
Went for a private party downstairs and it had a true speakeasy vibe. Didnt get to check out the main bar upstairs but would definitely consider this for renting out for a group--great space and drinks. Good whiskey collection as well.
Looking for somewhere to get your wine on? This is where you want to go. The Barrel Room is a wine bar specializing in small-production wines from all around the world. BR offers 50 wines by the glass and over 200 by the bottle. The Oakland location has officially begun serving amazing dinners to go with each wonderful wine tasting experience, too. I had a great experience that is guaranteed to quickly quench any girls’ wanderlust and wine craving. The Barrel Room’s flights and wine selections are ever changing. What’s even more exciting is they have begun the art of curating a tiny little tasty vacation with each guest’s visit simply by taking the concept of Wine Tasting Flights and pairing them with dishes inspired by the wine’s very same country and region. You can, of course, always order what looks good to you on the menu. But, if you’re feeling extra adventurous, you can select one of their ever changing flights or ask for help, tell them what you generally like and let them select wines to fit your preferences.
Great atmosphere, food and service!
Such a cute place! Their wine flights are amazing! Would like to return and try their food as well. Only downside is since its a small place that it gets a bit noisy sometimes if there is a big group.
As if this place werent cool enough, they now have live music on Thursday night in the downstairs speakeasy style bar. There was a wonderful jazz trio last night. The charcuterie and cheese plates were excellent ... and, of course the wine. Highly recommended!
Very well presented and delicious food and wine pairings on the 3 course dinner. Cozy atmosphere on the bar side of the establishment, though slightly cramped. Low to medium noise level
Unique ambiance, tasty food, great selection of wine, and friendly staff. Sarah, the event coordinator, is just awesome. Explore the hidden rooms...
Met a coworker here for lunch, good spot for a professional lunch date. The food was good, but not great (get the garlic fries)! The ambiance and service make up for anything that the menu is lacking.
My favorite in all of San Fran. I enjoy their live music on Thursday nights in the downstairs speakeasy style bar. The jazz trio I recently saw gave me all the feels. The charcuterie and cheese plates were delish as well as the wine. Highly recommended!
Place is amazing! Staff is great and knowledgeable. From out of town and came here two nights in a row. Enjoying the focus on Italian wines.
Came here with some colleagues and the theme was Portugese food. Had the APRICOT ARROZ DE PATO (Duck with rice), it was really good. Service was top notch as well!
Great place with huge collection of exquisite wine from different regions of the world. Every quarter they serve wine from different regions of world. I was able to taste wines from South America. Amazing staff, they let you taste different wines.
Great atmosphere. A perfect place for an after work drink. Large variety of wines.
Another overpriced “wannabe” restaurant in San Francisco. Inattentive service with built in gratuity. Uninspired menu and food lacking creative flavor.
I love their wine flights 💕 They change theme every month, so you can enjoy different country if you visit here once in a month.
Amazing selection of wines and good food for reasonable prices
Good food. Phenomenal wine selection. Kind of pricey, but I would say worth it
A decent spot serving good wines. Wish their flights had a better story associated with them. Good prices. Might drop in for a glass if in the area, waiting for a table somewhere.
Cool place. Upstairs bar is lively. Downstairs bar has a lot of personality and is much easier to have a conversation. Good cocktails and appetizers.
Great elite bar food. The tuna was outstanding. The wine choice was great.Nice cozy place to have good conversation and food and drink.
Great food, you mousse go here. Branzino, steak, and the mousse all rocked. Rachel was our waitress and she was the best. Great find, very chill atmosphere, and awesome wine and recommendations.
Good experience. Food was good, service was good, nothing to complain about.
Delicious meal! Concept changes quarterly. Awesome wine options and outstanding service. Ask to sit in Hognis section.
Excellent service, informed and interesting drink options, gourmet food, and the cuisine changes every couple of months. Whats not to like?
The food was fantastic. The staff was very nice, attentive, and knowledgeable. Great experience!
Great food and service.
Friday night visit. Very enjoyable experience. Loved the varieties that were shown off with the various flights. Yummy full reds. Staff was prompt and attentive.
Small wine bar in the back of the Fitzgerald hotel with outstanding wines. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and not condescending or rude when you dont know what you want or what is good. I love going for the wine flights.
Average wine bar. The wine selection was decent; food was okay. Not a lot of attention to detail nor anything particularly memorable on either front.
Great variety of wine and wonderful cheese selections. When I went I had a creamy truffle bleu cheese and a crumbly pecorino. Both were outstanding. The waitress was especially nice and knowledge. Its located in the Fitzgerald hotel and has an intimate feel with limited seating. Its perfect for 2 or 3 people who want to catch up over some delicious wine.
Great food, awesome wine selection fantastic crew and service. Best in the FD.
Good place for small and small+ plates to share family style. Menu changes seasonally. Pretty good drink selection.
Fun bar downstairs with great cocktails and a real speakeasy vibe.
Good wines by the glass. Happy hour is somewhat limited with food options and prices arent very happy in comparison to other places.
If u want to chill and sit and talk to someone over drinks this is the place grab a glass of wine some good food cant beat that
Awesome food, drinks, and service.
The meal and drinks were fantastic. The wait staff was very busy but also very attentive. I had the pork and it melted in my mouth. We ordered a cheese board and the padrón peppers. Beware, these are much hotter than shishito but Im a fan of heat. Some at my table were caught off guard, however they were tasty peppers. Overall, our meal was top notch and no one felt rushed at all. Would for sure go back!
The perfect high end wine and dine experience. Absolute love.
Good food. In our private group setting, service was very delayed, though.
Amazing staff. Amazing food but the wine was sooooooo good. I will be back often.
My go to lunch spot in the FD when I want sonething better than normal.
Nice selection of wines in a bustling space with great staff.
Excellent lunch, inspired by the Coastal Mediterranean theme, of Greek meatballs & saffron rice. Barman Paul is friendly, knowledgeable and fan of #BakeOff ;-)
Tasty Bites with an incredible wine selection and friendly staff.
Perfect after work place for drinks and snacks. Extensive wine list!!!.. Food was okay
Whenever the Financial District was involved it usually meant grab a drink or quick bite there to move to another part of town. Friday that changeddrinks at The Treasury then the 5 of us strolled up a few blocks to the Barrel Wine Bar for dinner. We sat in the middle section and the overall atmosphere was perfect. After a slow start with menus, autopilot kicked and the relaxed and friendly service took its rightfull place. Varied wine selection that carries Barnaut Champagne - personal favorite. Started off with bubbles then ordered off the starters and small plates and most were hits, but all fairly priced. Will definitely recommend and will pop in again to escape the monotone crowd.
Great wine selection! Take the crusted pork as an appetizer - it is delicious!!
A bit overrated. Have some local brews, also serve Weißbier, but in wrong glasses.Food is good, but not special. Tipp is the Sausage plate.
The staff is fantastic. Made me feel right at home.
Skip it unless you have a reservation. The bar tenders and doormen were really nice.
Food was good, not great. The menu was spain and Portugal... decent tapas. The whiskey selection was extensive.
The mixed drinks here are amazing! Cant go wrong with a plate of bacon wrapped dates either.
The food was delicious and I loved the atmosphere.
I love this place! Super cozy and intimate. Amazing recommendations/selections of wine & cheese!!
I had the Caesar salad for lunch. It was the worst Caesar Ive ever eaten. The prawns were rubbery and flavorless. I should have sent it back, but I was with a group. The service was ok on the positive side. My experience with the food would prevent me from ever returning.
Cozy and comfortable with changing international regional menu with extensive corresponding wine list. A celebration of wine and food.
Nice speak easy and good dinner food options.
And excellent selection of food and wine presented by avid fans of both.
Definitely worth going back to.
Professional staff. Great drinks.
When in San Francisco. Great food and drink. A must
Awesome dining and port. Memorable experience.
Great service, good wine selection, cozy atmosphere.
Nice ovation for a short stop over.
