A great book shop located in the heart of the city, and easily accessible by public transportation (it’s a couple blocks from the Powell Muni station). It carries a wide selection of hard to find books as well as some mainstream ones, with a really large selection from local authors / content that is relatively diverse in nature.

This bookstore is a solid four. Its fun for quick browsing, and they have a few really bizarre books. But there arent a lot of books. Im worried that this store will not stay in business. given the number of books they have I cant imagine selling enough to pay the rent at this spot.

I LOVED that this place has books written by folks from the area and published by this bookseller.I appreciated that it was accessible; there is a ramp up to the back of the shop that allows you to access the entire shop and the front of the shop has the steps back a bit so you can access the newest books / books in the first displays. (Good/bad: the ramp puts you against the general path of folks walking through the store as it puts you counterclockwise -- but I stopped by the shop 3x during Google Next once in the middle of the day twice at the end of the day as folks were leaving the conference, and there were never enough people in the store for this to cause traffic jams or difficulties for people going against the flow.)Finally, greatly appreciated that the location incorporated seating despite its small footprint.

Small little shop, but lots of interesting things to look at. Wife and I are avid Amazon shoppers, but its much easier to find interesting stuff when you can pick it up, as you know. Go check them out.

My favorite bookstore in San Francisco- you cant beat the prices and the selection is always varied. Its also a Goldilocks-sized store (not too big...not too small...) which allows for a leisurely perusal of all the offerings in about an hour or so. Pick up a coffee at Monkey Nest nearby and stroll on over--I guarantee youll find a great read to take home.

I wish there were more book stores like this. This was not a library, they dont carry everything under the sun but they have fun books quirky or intellectually stimulating.

Beautiful store showcasing the offerings of a great local publishing house. See their stuff all over, but it’s nice to look at it all at once.

Nice small bookstore with a central location where youll find everything Chonicle Books. Lots of San Francisco related material, several gift items, cook books and lots more! Check them out if youre near the Metreon.

Chronicles books are beautifully made but it not a large enough selection to warrant an exclusive store.

Nice selection of locally published books in an open and inviting space. Staff are knowledgeable on the selections and where to source books they dont carry.

They are very rude! I had just finished a hot chocolate when I went into the store and I asked the seller to throw it away for me, supposing they had a trash can there. He told me to look for a thrash can out of the store, because a used cup could mess with their trash can. No words. I just left the store!

NOT a bookstore. Its a storefront for a publisher, so if what you want isnt published by them youre unlikely to find it here.

You can understand this place as a place for children rather than a general bookstore. Its easy to see because its spacious, and there are plenty of chairs to read even if you dont buy it.There are many books for the lower grades of elementary school children and educational board games.Stationery such as notes, diaries, and cards are also diverse, so it can also serve as a gift shop for tourists. However, the people who work are more likely to be part-time albas than professional staffs, so they are not able to answer any questions. Its a great place to browse and take photos without being disturbed.
