Green Apple Books is one of the best bookstores I’ve ever visited. For someone who is easily enticed by stacks of books, this place is heaven. They’ve an eclectic collection of both new and used books. The collection is carefully curated, and while browsing the collection, one finds both well-written short reviews as well as quirky comments, which just adds to a book lover’s unbridled joy. Philosophy, science, cooking, fiction, non-fiction, history—any area you name, they have a huge collection of books in that area. While on the second floor, I came across the ‘Granny Smith’ room, which has books on philosophy, classics, history and political science. Even though it was just a room, it seemed like another bookstore in itself. I spent hours perusing the room.Their fiction collection deserves a special shout-out as well. It’s easy to find used amazing books of fiction(both new and old) here. I didn’t spend a lot of time here since I was scared I would end up adding 15-20 more books of fiction to my already picked up books. I found some solace in the fact that I would visit Green Apple again soon, and then pick those books of fiction. The checkout was smooth as well. The person at the counter and I chatted a bit about Emma Donoghue, and she was kind enough to recommend another book of hers. There are two levels at Green Apple and each level has a pretty amazing collection. The store is quite conspicuous, so you cannot miss it from the outside when you’re there.Thank you for being there Green Apple, I’ll be back again soon!

A used and new bookstore hidden in there. There was a great selection there including an impressive selection of used books. I even found a new release from one of my favorite authors and it was signed! So worth the trip over. If I lived here I would visit too often. If youre like me and enjoy hunting down Independent bookstores then this place needs to be on your list.

A good bookstore, I have been coming here for years but the last visit was not so great. The person behind the counter overcharged my husband $115. When he pointed this out, the man behind the counter said oh let me give you a refund. When my husband got home to look at his receipts he saw that the man did not give him a refund, but charged him yet again another $115. So now they have over charged us $200. When my husband called to talk with someone, they told him to call back tomorrow, did not even bother to take his name. So buyer beware, and unfortunately they currently are practicing bad customer service habits.

Support this bookstore. I love browsing thru the bookshelves. Green Apple Books is brilliant in how both new and used books are displayed. Sometimes together or side by side in the same section. The staff is professional and extremely helpful. I have made telephone inquiries and they were always willing to search a section to locate a book. I always leave with at least one book I didnt know I needed to read next. Please support all local independent bookstores.

This is one of my favorite bookstores in the Bay Area. I have purchased books here plenty of times when I am in the City. They have books of varieties of genres, board games. Customers may call to inquire about items in their inventory if they wish to place on hold to pickup. Ive remember once when a staff went above and beyond to look a book that was mis-shelved elsewhere, which was in stock on their site. I have ordered online through their website recently, and my items arrived fast in less than a week. 5/5 stars

My absolute favorite bookstore in the bay area. I have an adventure each time I go and always find an amazing book that blows me away. I also love Adobe Books on 24th St. Its just that Green Apple has way more books about everything. Both are quite eclectic. Powells in Oregon is my number one bookstore, its 1.6 acres of books, but I only get out that way once or twice a year.

The crew that works here on Sunday afternoons is so unpleasant. I’ve been here on two consecutive weekends and they were just so unpleasant and one guy (older, bald, working in the kids section) was downright rude. Totally felt unwelcome and won’t be back. Shame, as I’ve lived here and been a loyal customer for years.

With the way the world is right now Christmas was tight for my whole family. My uncle, who works at a super cool indie bookstore in Santa Cruz, told me that he collects indie bookstore bookmarks and that they could be a great, inexpensive gift for him. The issue is that hes been in the small local bookshop business for so long, its kind of difficult to find ones he hasnt been able to visit. Enter Green Apple Books. I found them through a review on the internet of the best independent bookstores in the US and boy they did NOT disappoint!!! I ordered one of their large canvas totes and mentioned in the notes that if they could include a bookmark for my uncles collection I would really appreciate it. Even though I ordered it the week of Christmas knowing they would be closed at some point and it would arrive late they still got it shipped out ASAP and my uncle received it before New Years Eve! He was so excited to get the book bag, as well as the bookmark and other goodies. I, like many people who shop small, am a huge sucker for excellent customer service and I truly appreciate the time and effort the good people of Green Apple Books put in to really make this gift shine. I will definitely be purchasing from them again, and hopefully someday when its safer to go to the Bay I can thank them in person. Go Green Apple!

I like this shop. It has a lovely neighborhood atmosphere. However, I am not sure if I will come back after my husband tried to sell his books on January 1, 2021, and was turned away by the employee in quite a rude manner. He literally was shouted at. Afterward, I checked the website and couldn’t find anything about the policy of not accepting books to buy by the store on New Year’s Day.We did not try to seem ignorant by not knowing this specific rule as I did not find an announcement on the website or bookstore’s social media, but if lack of awareness or knowledge about the bookstore rules is something that causes employees of Green Apple so much frustration, I think I’ll pass.

If a bookworm died theyd be sent to rest in peace for eternity at Green Apple Books. Things are as they should be here, with limited walking space and as much retail as can still be fire-code-approved filled with bookshelves and books. They sell new and used books, but had a particularly strong offering of books signed by the author. I picked up Artemis signed by Andy Weir as part of my holiday shopping. The staff is knowledge and outgoing. At the Clement St location they have separated out general fiction and comics/music into two different buildings on the same block, giving the one a more classic cozy feel and the other made a geek culture rabbit hole. Both spaces are well worth the visit.

Open during COVID-19 for hand-sanitized, socially distanced book browsing. Please support if youre able to!Stepping through the front doors of Green Apple is like a C.S. Lewisian journey into a bookstore that feels like it belongs in New York Citys East Village. There are actually two locations just a couple of storefronts from each other, the main store (this one) and a fiction annex a couple doors down, so be sure you get in the full browsing and exploring experience at both spots while youre here. They sell new and used books so if youre looking for the latest National Book Award finalist in hardcover or a well thumbed copy of your favorite architecture book or poetry anthology, its likely hiding somewhere among the wooden staircases and twisty back rooms of Green Apple. Just navigating the hand drawn signage and funky bookish paraphernalia is alone worth a contemplative visit, but if youre able to spend some money here and support an indie institution, please do---there really is something for every taste here.
