Over the years I’ve purchased several cameras, many lenses, and all of my equipment at Fireside. With Ed’s guidance, I’ve gone from a good point and shoot to a Nikon D750 and a Fuji mirrorless camera. Along the way, he has been extraordinarily generous with his time, advice and knowledge. When there have been mishaps, Ed has tried first to fix the problem rather than automatically sending equipment to the factory.All of the staff at Fireside are friendly, helpful, and extremely knowledgeable. They take the time to ensure that the equipment you buy best suits your needs, and they stand behind their products.

Bought a used lens for my Nikon DSLR here. Ed was extremely helpful and took his time showing me different products and explaining the differences, which is so helpful if youre a novice photographer like me. This is the type of shop that reminds you how wonderful of an experience it is to shop in person and be assisted by an expert when you need it.

I bought my Fuji x100v from Fireside, and they helped set me up with really great peripherals at a modest price. I had a problem dropping it 6 months into owning it, and the suggested repair options were daunting, and while they had a good referral to a local shop that did repairs, it turned out not to be workable - too sensitive an area, requiring factory ($$) service and I was looking at an expensive repair and long absence in use. I got a call back from Fireside saying that I had purchased a guarantee on the original ticket, and the camera would be repaired or replaced as per the terms of the guarantee. This is what happens when a local shop gives good advice (they had recommended the guarantee) and follows up in an emergency. Which they did. Thoughtful and prompt.

Wanted to buy local to support the community and was pleasantly surprised that they had stock of what other stores online didnt have! Super nice folk. Had everything I needed and blew my mind their prices were competitive. Looking forward to getting my gear from this place in the future.

Very nice gentlemen helped me but his suggestion didnt quite meet my needs. Not a super big affordable selection. I was shown a few options in the $550 range for just the Fujifilm camera with no add ons.I ended up spending $575 elsewhere and got the Canon Rebel T7 camera, the bag, two lenses, two 32gb memory cards, three filters, a tripod and a few other items. I wanted to shop with a local business but it proved not to be the best option, not even close. I asked if there were options that came with some add-ons and was told no.Three stars only because of their service and not their selection of items.

Fireside has kept me waiting for over 6 months now to receive my Sony a6300 that they sent off for a repair to Sony (I declined the repair cost and the camera was supposed to be sent back), with no solution or way to work out the missing camera. They are plenty nice people but have left a customer (who has since moved from SF) hanging, because they cant work out an issue with one of their vendors. This should have been resolved as soon as they knew the situation was bad, even if it meant a small financial loss to them, to do right by a customer. Ive asked this of them on numerous occasions, having to be the one to follow up periodically, and have been left with unsatisfactory answers. They just continue to ask me to wait...They were quick to sell me another camera when I brought mine in for the repair, but paralysis on an issue like this, that wouldnt cost them much to resolve, is reason enough to look elsewhere for a camera shop.

I dont recommend getting passport photos here. Embassy turned me away saying requirements werent met (sizing all wrong) so had to get redone at another store.edit: thanks to the store owner for taking the time to respond and to offer a refund.

Old fashioned in a good way. Prices are comparable to Amazon and other good online places, so it comes down to service. They know what theyre selling. Gave great advice for binoculars price v performance trade-offs. Small but good selection of quality used equipment.

If you write them an email - theyll respond quick. If you show up in-store and theres a line, theyll make sure youre taken care of in a timely matter. This store knows how to help everyone from the beginning photographer to the pros in the world.

Im on a road trip and left my tripod quick release plate at home. The staff were incredibly helpful and offered me an awesome solution. The salesman knew his stock and was knowledgeable of how best to address it. For such a small shop they had a great range.

The two machines at the back of this little camera shop that are self-service photo print kiosks are the main reason I come here, as there are few if any remaining places to go in SF where you can print yourself. The problem for me was the attitude of the owner/manager (?) when I mentioned the over-cropping and over-yellow: I was greeted with a lecture on how photographers KNOW to take a picture with a slightly larger frame than what they want because of automatic cropping. I think they should FIX the machines - since most people are not expecting their pictures to come overly yellow and pictures over-trimmed. Then, if they are nice to me, I will come back for my next camera purchase and tell a friend...

My camera got damaged while I was traveling, and the people at Fireside were incredibly helpful with getting it sealed up and secure for transport home. Great service for a last minute problem. Thanks!

It was 2013 January 3, I was carrying my crappy cheap tripod on the way to golden bridge for a night shot. While I was waiting the bus, the tripod breaks completely. It was getting dark, I was about to miss the perfect timing for night shot. I searched this store from my iphone. The stuffs was very helpful, they recommended me the exact tripod I need. And at end, I took some nice night picture of the golden bridge.

Helped this traveler out! i am on a road-trip and left my sensor cleaning kit at home. there was a spec on my sensor, and like a dummy i tried to blow it off, then touched it ever so lightly with a clean cloth...but of couse it smudged. i went to mikes camera in mill valley because thats where my hotel is. they didnt have the right kit, but said they could clean it by the afternoon. i only had one day in san francisco. not only did fireside have the kit, they showed me the proper way to clean the sensor, AND cleaned it for me on the spot. they were friendly, knowledgeable, and didnt treat me like the rookie i am.
