I have enjoyed this place and bought many things here over the last few decades. Great staff, great prices.Currently, just fishing for some more fishing gear, but this is my go to place for camping supplies and ammo.

I am a frequent customer. The store itself is well stocked. The customer service level however, varies. The male who looked like the manager always went out of his way to help. Another gentleman who helped retrieve the gym bags from the wall display also was very polite and patient. There sometimes is a brown-hair lady at the front desk, always greets customers with welcome is also great. These are the five stars!！They are the ones who bring the customers back. However, there is another chubby，brown-hair lady, wearing-glasses, who looks like she had been working there for sometime is a completely different story. I asked her where swimsuits are, she didnt utter a word and simply pointed her finger up. (Do you mean ceiling or second floor?) Another lady asked her about size of a dress, she asked and then yelled across the room it is your bra size.! Worst yet, she walks around the store drinking soda from her soda can in her hand! This happened in mid August of this year! Dont you know your store sells clothes here?! Anyone with a sense of mind should not be walking around with a open soda can, let alone an employee. Perhaps the manager wasnt around that day, she spent more time chatting than helping customer or with inventory. I didnt quite catch her name but i will next time. This lady deserves no star. The store is lucky to be at a good location and with a few other really professional employees.

Solid spot in Santa Monica for your sporting goods needs. Basically has anything you would ever need for all the kids’ sports - along with great service. Frankly amazed on how they keep track of all their inventory!

Found 2 pairs of sneakers for my grand daughter. Her feet are getting big fast.

Its a good location for most of your sporting needs. Lots of stuff, but in my experience, it wasnt cheap. Youre likely paying a premium for convenience at this location.

Awesome place - still looks, feels & smells the same as when I came here 20 years ago w my dad to buy stuff for Boy Scout camping trips. Y Prices are higher than Amazon but their return policy is awesome & so are their employees.Highly recommended

This location is OK, its way too cramped and has steep stairways to the second floor. But it would be best to go to another Big 5 location or a different store all together because they dont allow returns and exchanges at this location if you have returned or exchanged something else there recently. I guess they have problems with theft at this location or something, but there policy is completely ridiculous! The phone number they gave me for their customer service line was already closed for the day, so after spending a half hour selecting the items to exchange in the store, I was rejected and told I could not exchange or return the shorts that were going to be too small, and the pocket knife that was fully defective and did NOT EVEN LOCK, so its totally dangerous and faulty!Dont trust your money with this company, they have some new business model where they sell small electronics now, so the store is all messed up now, goodbye good old Big 5, hello lame corporate company.When I finally reached their customer service line today--its completely automated and digital, no option to talk to a person during business hours, I had to leave voice messages. They are cutting costs and going full digital, hiring less employees, selling chinese junk, and pocketing the profits. Big 5...shame on you, and your Board seeking profits over customer.

Picked up race big for the Pasadena Half Marathon, held on 9/26/2021

I went there to buy a soccer ball. They only sold one kind of size 5 soccer balls and the rest were all size 3 and 4. Unacceptable

Great helpful staff here. Wasnt able to stay long, but they made my short visit pleasurable.

They helped my husband obtain the loafers that he needed instead of tennis shoes really nice of them to help a senior citizen

I picked up a great pair of Nikes and New balance shoes for a fantastic price. I also got a plantar fasciitis shoe support which completely made my ankle feel better during my three mile run. Everything here is a great price, so it made getting what I needed all the less painful.

Pretty much the easiest place to get a discount on brand name sporting goods. Theres always coupons on the internet and you can even get one just for signing up for their email list. No delay or anything. I specifically come here to get Wilson Evolution basketballs, which I tend to lose pretty often.

This store is amazing with a beautiful selection of apparel, footwear, sportswear. The prices are very reasonable and the employees are courteous/professional.

Not the best customer service

The employees work hard at this location, everyone was doing something productive. There attitudes are positive. There store is huge and well organized. The manager was nice and helpful. Parking sucks a little but its not too bad.

The store is clean and well kept. The selections are not the largest in quantity but theres still a good amount of merchandise.Would return!!

I have a love/hate relationship with Big5. Often they carry the product Im looking for, but its not the right size or color, or something else is wrong. I have bought many things that seemed like a good deal and would last but ended up collecting dust in my equipment closet. Prices are generally good here if you can find what youre looking for.

This store is well stocked with merchandise but they mostly carry entry-level, lower-end athletic gear. Lots of clothing, team jerseys, baseball caps, running shoes, etc. and gear for pretty much every sport you can think of. They usually have coupons in their flyers at the door so pick up a copy as you walk in.

This review has been long overdue but I have been wanting to give a shout out to Luis the assistant manager who helped me over in the Encino location when he was there. Amazing customer service and great help. I greatly appreciate the effort he had put into helping me and going beyond.

All in all I feel Big 5 Sporting Goods in Santa Monica is a strong average in the ranking of sporting good stores. And I mean that all-around...Staff, products, store. The best thing is, its location. If you know that too expect nothing outstanding, youll be fine.

I don’t really like this place but they have a lot good sport stuff for outdoor activity and sales.The light is dark and slow in customer service.Hopefully they are getting better to make inside the building at least a little bit nicer.

Not as big as the name implies but its not that big.

Lower end sports store. For my sports, there was nothing but basic soccer cleats and golf gear. Might be better for parents shopping for kids stuff at entry level prices. No staff approached, won’t be back.

Always have gotten good attentive service.Regularly have very good sales prices on low to mid- priced knives.They carry a good selection of Kershaw brand knives, excellent quality for the price.Plenty of parking.While you are there go next door to Bristol Farms market. Best prepared food in town.

This is a pretty good sports store with a good variety of sports equipment at decent prices. Is it great?...no, but its good. I needed a few different athletic and sports things, and I was glad to find that they had everything I needed...the back roller I wanted was even on a good sale. I would have normally given it 3.5 or 4 stars, but almost all of the other reviews on here are so unbelievably whiny and ridiculous, that I felt it deserved to have its average bumped higher. To the person who got the wrong shoe size...why didnt you check the shoes yourself? Its not some boutique shoe store where they cater to you and place the shoe on your foot while you sip a mimosa...take some responsibility and initiative for yourself. And for the person who whined about getting disconnected on the phone...$#!% happens, STFU. Maybe they had 3-4 incoming calls and accidentally bumped you...happens all the time at many places. No reason to leave a vindictive 2-star review for a simple mistake, and you obviously never bothered to get back on the review and follow up. As for the other people who just made generic comments about being rude...since you couldnt leave any actual description about why you didnt like them, Im sure you had some ridiculous demand about wanting to return muddy shoes or something that they wouldnt accommodate. If you want exceptional customer service and a first-class shopping experience, go to the Promenade or Beverly Hills. If you need decent running shoes or some other generic equipment for an okay price and dont want to drive far, Big 5 will do fine.

Place is great and full of legit customer service. I called in when looking for something, and they assisted me efficiently.

Lots of equipment for any sport you can imagine. When you first step in the doors the amount of stuff they have stocked can be overwhelming. We came here for goalie gloves, at first we had a hard time finding the “goalie glove area”. A floor person helped us out. Once we did find the gloves it looked like they only had kids sizes. We were about to give up but then looked a little harder and finally found the adult sizes sort of buried in the display with the rest of the kids sizes. Good BIG5, serves its purpose well, and has great prices on good sports equipment. Our goalie gloves were $20, and for a rec league.

Pretty cool big 5. Kinda right in midtown and near work. I got a nice hat amd shoes for around 50 bucks which is great I think. I needed some padded shpes for work and figired id geta hat also caise ive meeded one a few times. They have a lot to choose from and its 2 stories high inside.

Just because we couldnt find the two things that we were looking for, and it took forever to find help. Once we did, the guys help was great, even recommended where we should go to find the stuff.

Big 5 often has sales and specials, so you can sometimes find some bargains. It could be worth checking out, depending on what youre looking for. Having said that, 50% of the store is apparel, and 90% of the apparel is that cheap, sweaty nylon and polyester junk.

Plenty of parking available and a good selection of items given the size of the store. Minimal selection of bikes however there is a pretty healthy selection of camping and fishing gear. Excellent pricing on a variety of shoes. And theres usually a coupon or promo code available online.

Their fanny packs are a perfect fit and cheaply priced. Their shoes are great and on sale often. Read the newspaper ads for their frequent sales.

I have gone here for everything from team gear to baseball gloves n cleats to soccer equip n basketballs. I have a 6 year old into sports n have never been disappointed with there inventory n prices.

Giovanni Paiz is the man, he helped me look for a fishing rod that was on the ad. He looked it up in the big 5 store inventory database to confirm if they had it or not. Took a good 15 minutes because he checked the floor and the stock room.Also, shoeed me some extra lures. Walked out with a smile on my face.
