Absolutely my new favorite independent bookstore. Such a cute little shop, very organized, just a quaint cozy feeling when you walk in and a fabulous and wide selection of books. If you enjoy autographed books, they had a large selection of those as well. So happy I finally had a chance to stop in here and of course, walked out with 4 new books to read!
It’s such a nice little bookshop with lots of options and signed copies from multiple authors (like Diana Gabaldon). The staff was incredibly nice and offered to hold things at the counter. After learning that in from Georgia they offered to ship my purchase and bubble wrapped mugs to keep them safe. They even offered to put a plastic cover on my signed book. I highly suggest stopping in.
Fully vaxxed triple shot. Have natural immunity. The tyrant screamed at me to place on a mask. I put it on but it was not to their liking. They harassed me all the way out of the store!!! Hurt feelers for sure!!
What a wonderfully dangerous place for a love to read person!! So many great choices--authors, venues, styles.....and on and on. I love my ereader but I walk out of here with a full bag of books EVERY VISIT! Simply marvelous treasure.
Great boutique bookstore with an emphasis on mystery novels but so much more besides. Always ask the staff for recommendations and you wont be sorry. Best place to discover new favorite authors and new series to enjoy. Love!
Nice store! My daughter and I like thier atmosphere and book selection.
Awesome employees and book selections.. Love this place. Be sure to sign up with them!! They have webinars all the time with various authors.. you can even order signed copies of books from those authors.
They only care about customers complying with their mask policy. They don’t care if anyone actually buys books. Medical exemption still means something in this country. It’s fine though. You won’t be receiving any of my money for any of your books.
A slice of heaven. A mystery bookstore at the top of every mystery fan, and every mystery writers go to place. What a great place to shop and visit. Thank you for the excellent service. Please visit and support. Mark McCracken, author of the Sean OFarrell Mystery Series.
Great bookshop that specializes in mysteries. Super service. Very clean and organized.
Book stores as a whole and especially independent ones are becoming more and more rare. The Poisoned Pen specializes in offering signed copies of newly released books. Shipping domestically and internationally, they have carved out a niche in a very competitive market. I am pleased to be able to support them with my purchases.
The Poisoned Pen staff are very responsive to questions and concerns. I received The Last Days in a timely manor. I really appreciate how helpful they are.
My favorite bookstore in Scottsdale. I love the cozy ambience and the variety in selection of books. Especially thankful for the dedicated and delightful staff. #supportlocal #Ilovereading
A Scottsdale cornerstone of knowledge and culture providing years of stimulating reading and intimate events, such as authors visits, and poetry nights.. (pre-covid).Have you noticed much of this kind of thing going away now?A visit here is highly recommended while it still exists!
Kind, knowledgeable staff. Picture your ideal bookstore in your mind. This is it. Wish we lived closer.
Amazing store lots of classic novel that I used to search long time ago. I cant believe I will see it here!
I watched our interview with Dean Koontz. I wrote about my sons dog eating some of my books. You read my message to Dean. Thank you for that. Dean replaced my book of counted sorrows. It came today. I always check your website for more Dean Koontz books I still dont have. I am now a big fan of your store now..
I enjoy the author talks/book signings. It has a cozy, familiar feeling.
Had the pleasure to visit over the weekend when I was in town from Ohio. Adorable shop, great selection, and the staff working were so sweet. They were friendly, jovial, helpful just the right amount of sass (Im sassy so it was great to get it back instead of the deer in headlights looks.) Love all the author photos and signed copies. Would love to see even more Poisoned Pen merchandise. It was hard not to spend all my money! Ill be back for sure! Who knows, one day they may carry my work. 😉✍
Great staff. Friendly. Helped me find a book for a friends engagement. Super cute dog 🐕 😘💕
Nice folks. Very helpful.
Great selection of books & many games. Brought books for my grandchildren, my friend & myself. Nice area and space for kids to explore books and a nice sitting area
Amazing knowledgeable staff!! Very friendly, and can tell you everything about each author and book in the store. HIGHLY recommend if your an avid reader.
I love The Poisoned Pen! I come every time Im near Phoenix/Scottsdale. They have a great selection and all the workers are extremely knowledgeable about all generes, and have wonderful recommendations.
One of my favorite spots!!! Great books, enjoyable and knowledgeable staff. So much fun!
Rude staff and low inventory of books. I go to Scottsdale to shop and relax, not to deal with enforcers of virtue signaling and that is this store, they have nothing I can’t buy on Amazon or Barnes and Noble for less so why shop here if it is stressful experience?
Small bookstore, but mystery lovers paradise.
Ive ordered a book online and their assistance has been great! Will do so again.
I really tried to buy local! Staff seating at the counter with eyes fixated on their computer screens. Uninspiring.
This place was a really cool find. Definitely thinking about becoming a regular at this bookstore.
Super helpful and friendly staff.
They are the BEST!!! Went there because I LOVE Diana Gabaldon, and they have all of her books, signed, and was so warmly treated by Tracy, that they have earned a customer for life!!!
Amazing book store for fiction, fantasy, and sci-fi. Many signed first edition books.
Excellent atmosphere and customer service. Was able to get a signed copy of a book I had been looking for. Highly recommend
Great people. A great bookstore that deserves our support.
I have been buying from this seller for years. Sadly that have fallen to the point of false advertising and bait and switch scams. Dont but any signed books from them. They will take your preorder and then send you a tip in. They did this to me twice. I will not buy from them anymore. Fair warning! Dont get ripped off.
Owner is awesome! Place is awesome! Check it out
They are fantastic! I bought a signed book for my husband that in Italy are not. Very good piace.
Extremely bad experience with this bookstore. I have tried ordering two different books and both times I never got the book and instead got abuse from the store. On the last attempt, I was notified by email that a book had arrived. I then tried to contact the store, but as usual no one answers the phone. I then drove up the store and when I was getting out of my car, I was confronted by a pony tailed tattooed surly individual who yelled out What do you want? I explained that I was trying to pick up a book. He then demanded did I have an appointment. I said no as no one answers the phone. He then told me to get out. I asked to speak to a manager and he said thats me. I said who are you? He replied nobody you need to know. This bookstore has fallen on hard times and the owner has evidently turned it over to God knows who to run it and they despise customers. Barnes and Noble, and Amazon are much easier to work with and they do not abuse their customers. If you try to shop there, forget it as the store is only open on whimsical hours and is usually locked up, regardless of the signs in the window and whatever the internet says.
What a great place for anyone that loves reading. They pack so much good in a such a small place. I like going there to attend book signings with my favorite authors. The staff here is very helpful and will go the extra mile to assist you as they did for me. I look forward to their next event and will be there with a smile on my face.
Cutest little book store. Such a helpful and friendly staff.
Had the signed book that we wanted!
Everythings great here. A little disappointed we had to leave early because of a scheduled event, but Ive got a book on order from them.
Great intimate bookstore.
A quaint and lovely atmosphere!
AMAZING HIDDEN GEM- I went looking for some local gifts to send and always wondered what the poisoned pen store was. Gosh alrighty then- this place is wonderful, and so much more than books. They have a ton of local items to send to your family and friends, literature based gifts, kids toys/adults puzzles, and yes even books. Places like this make the world wonderful and make me happy! FYI- parking is very confusing and finding the entrance is a bit of a maze but well worth the brain workout!
Great mystery books store!
Books of my 2 favorite authors are there... Diana Gabaldon & Steve Berry.
Appreciate they allowed in store ahopping with appointment. Great options for crime and mystery fiction.
First time there today. Was looking for the book Bone Black by Bell Hooks. Looked all over the city for it; even B & N didnt have it. Poisoned Pen Bookstore had 2 copies. The helpful and might I add adorable guy at the cash register (skinny with hipster glasses and messy hair), took me right to it without hesitation.
They have four doors you could enter through, but only one way in and the service was sub par and they dont have much of a selection.
Store was closed to foot traffic when we tried to go there. Servicing online orders only.
My first time here; it was for a book signing/Q&A. Bookstore is well organized and seems larger than it really is. I saw several small reading books, which also make the store feel cozier and welcoming. This bookstore specializes in thriller and mysteries, which I love. Will be back, but with enough time to thoroughly explore.
I came here for an author event. The staff was very warm and friendly when my companion and I walked in. There was adequate seating, as well as refreshments, gratis. I had a chance to peruse the inventory after the event, and was delighted. I will be back again.
For over 30 years, an outstanding independent bookstore specializing in mystery, suspense and other fiction with a nice local interest section . They also host 250 author events a year. Sign up for their emails as you never know who may appear, like James Murray of Impractical Jokers pictured here last Friday. A nice local treasure with a friendly and helpful staff!
The Poisoned Pen is a shining example of the best things that independent bookstores have to offer. The staff is friendly, and ready to point you toward something youll like. They have a large selection of signed books, including signed first editions. If I lived in the area, Id spend a lot of time there.
If you are a lover of books you have to go here. How often do you go to a bookstore thats actually old school style. Tons of options, pictures of all the authors that have come in and done signing / readings. I could spend hours here.
Just went there for a book signing. They had a great selection of science fiction and fantasy and most of the employees were really helpful and nice! Plenty of parking in this area too.
One of my favorite bookstores. I bring my friends who are visiting from out of town, and we have a great time. I especially enjoy meeting authors.
Great mystery bookstore. The collection is well curated and it really helps that the staff is knowledgeable and friendly. Also, great fun to look around at all the book related items they have.Highly recommended!
Wow! What an amazing place. I am old school. I like books that I can hold as opposed to digital books. While I do have a Kindle I use when I travel, nothing beats the feeling of cracking open a new hardcover on the day it is released. This trip was special because I got to meet my literary hero, Michael Connelly. The Poisoned Pen host many different authors I plan on stopping by to meet. I also am planning to browse their shelves for some hardcovers I am missing from my collection.
Ive been wanting to come here for ages and it was everything this bibliophile could hope for. Firstly, the staff: Patrick was awesome! Super helpful and super friendly in the way of a good friend, not someone just selling books. He gave me a lot of recommendations for future mystery reads too. Next, the store itself: nice and homey with a good selection. And yes, local heroine/author Diana Gabaldon has her own section which is totally cool. Theres even a section for Poisoned Pens own mystery imprint. I absolutely LOVE this bookstore and its so worth the trip from Los Angeles to come here.
Very good bookstore, very large, wide and complete selection of books and authors - I was impressed given its size. Went to hear an author speak regarding his works, something the store commonly does for a long time judging from all the 8x10 pictures and signatures hanging from every square inch of ceiling. About 100 people showed up for this one and they had to turn some away because they couldnt fit everyone. Very nice bookstore, has some charm and history.
Found some good books here! If you love mystery books this is the place for you!!! They also have a good selection of other books.
Great books at reasonable prices. The event was a lot of fun. I totally enjoyed meeting Raymond Khoury. They did a great job for the event.
Basically if youre into murder mysteries this is the story that you want to shop at.
The store specializes in mystery and has an excellent selection. Its inventory includes hundreds of books signed by the author and appears to be a stop by writers promoting their newest novels. Plus I was able to purchase a pair of funky socks for my daughter. A great place for people who favor the printed word.
Good people who really made me welcome! Fun to go to a book signing there one evening... fascinating time!
Closed except for curb pick up. So if you are from out of town and want to browse for a book, forget it.
This is a great book store. If they dont have it they can find it for you. They get lots of famous authors in there if you like your books signed.
What a neat store to browse for books! The selection of books is great. There are many signed copies by a variety of authors. There are even photos of the many authors who have been to this store and signed books. The staff are very helpful and friendly.
My first visit. I enjoyed the local touches. The staff was very friendly. And I picked up a copy of Killers of the Flower Moon!
We attended a fabulous book talk and met Dana Haynes. The bookstore was fabulous and the recommendations were spot on! I will definitely be back!
Fun little independent bookshop with a multitude of book-signing events. Even big names such as Alex Grecian and Lee Goldberg. Well worth the trip!
Very friendly, staff is excellent. Knowledgeable and friendly. Small, but good selection. Romance section could be bigger.
A great, small brick and mortar bookstore. Especially good selection of mystery books and autographed copies. I would recommend this store to anyone looking for a good read.
I stopped in here randomly while on a business trip and I thought it was utterly charming. Primarily focused on mystery books, but they also have a selection of other genres. Very cozy - if Id had more time, I would have curled up with a book in a chair for an hour.
This place is really cool and a fun place to visit. Wonderful staff and a great selection.
I had a great experience the day I went. Not only were the staff pleasant but they were very helpful. Plus I got a lot of great books and wonderful music and toys for gifts.
This is without a doubt the best bookstore Ive ever visited. Cozy, with a friendly, knowledgeable staff, its tucked away like that last special gift waiting to be opened on Christmas morning. Be sure to support small business and stop by when planning your next book purchase. You wont be disappointed.
Beautiful store, excellent selection and helpful staff
First time customer. In from Ohio for a signing event. Wonderful bookstore with lovely staff. Found lots of books that I must have. Highly recommend!!
Wonderful bookstore, one of my happy places. Great selections with many opportunities to meet authors.
Wonderful new and used book store. One story but you can find all you need in it. Good places to sit and read before you purchase and they have numerous author talks and book signings.
Quaint little place. So much nicer than a big box book store.
I have twice ordered books online, (pre-ordered to be exact) both times the shipping has been absolutely slow. I contacted the company and was told they didnt know when the book would ship out.
Went to a very nice book signing event here a couple of weeks ago. The format was great - Q&A with the author, very personable environment. A real treasure to have this bookstore in Arizona! The staff was helpful and knowledgeable - always great to be around people who love books.
Great bookstore with a small town feel and charm. Very knowledgeable and friendly staff.
