Stopped by after Mass for All saints Day. First time back in many years. Food was good. I tried the macaroni and cheese app and roast beef sandwich platter with gravy fries and wasnt disappointed. My aunt got the grilled ham and cheese. Also good. We liked it. On the other hand I could see how someone would negatively review this place as the service was very incredibly slow and other people who came in after us got served before us and had eaten and left by the time we received our food. Also the bathroom door didnt seem to lock so I was worried about someone walking in opening the door while I was using the bathroom. Bathroom was kind of filthy. Looks like the HVAC system hadnt been maintained or cleaned with the vents in many many years.
First time visiting the surprising diner.. it looks like they built on to the original diner and still have much of the retro look. There is lots of seating, even outdoor. The waitress was really friendly and very accommodating to my 4 yr Olds whims.. the food was definitely traditional diner food and it was good! I ordered the hot turkey platter, but it wasnt as hot as I was expecting. Other than that everything else was great!
Fantastic cute little diner. The service was very friendly and attentive. They had the best pancakes, coffee, and home fries. I wasn’t too keen on their take on cornbeef hash, buts that’s the only negative I can think of. If I ever go back I’ll try the open faced beef sandwich with gravy. Everyone raved about it we talked to at the hotel and in the reviews.

I thought I would buy my family some burgers with sauce. I ordered 8 of them with two fries to go. I spent $68.00 plus tip. What I got were burgers thrown into containers with sauce, not even on the bun. Burgers with grill grease and chunks of black thrown into the container, and one burger broken in half and thrown in a pile of sauce and black grill grease. Anyway, it was garbage and I will never go there again. I wouldnt feed that to the dog.
If you want a laid back mellow meal, visit here. Theyve always paid attention to good staple foods and have some new things on the menu. Sit in the back, or covered tables outside if you dont want to be too close to others and be prepared to take some home.If your goal is to support local businesses, this is the place to go !!
My waitress April was above and beyond!! She was kind, patient, attentive, friendly, outgoing and gave absolutely phenomenal service!! The food was wonderfully made to perfection. I was seated outside where I was able to enjoy a beautiful patio with flowers and enough space to be seated comfortably while respecting social distancing. The menu was very inexpensive and reasonably priced and there was very little wait time. I highly recommend the homemade biscuits and gravy!!
Is it old? YES. Is it nice? YES. Is it inexpensive? YES. Is the food good? TYPICAL DINER FOOD. Is the service fast? IF YOURE A TURTLE.So, this is your old fashioned train car diner. Looks like a passenger car. Food is what youd expect from a 50s-60s diner. Has no bells and whistles. But overall vibe brings you back to a very nice time in todays crazy world. Definitely the place to go if youre looking for a walk down memory lane.
Their corned beef hash was deli corned beef cut up and fried with lots of hash browns. Very disappointing. Eggs and service were good.
By far one of the best diners left in the area. The ladies waiting tables are something you have to see to truly appreciate. They go nonstop. Hats off to the entire staff.
I go there for there Western Omelet with Cheese, its always fluffy and hot when it comes out. Their sausage links are also very good, very juicy too. The waitress greeted me with a great big smile and was very welcoming.
The Glider Diner is my favorite diner. I am so relieved it made it through the worst of the Covid crisis where other restaurants fell by the wayside. My favorites are the hot roast beef with fries and a side of coleslaw; the Texas cheeseburgers; and eggs over easy with sausage. Their food has been consistently good over the years. Very few errors. The waitresses are polite, fast and know what they are doing. Today I sat outside under the tent. Very pleasant. The food and service were perfect. Bravo.

We just had the best lunch ! We both had the hot meatloaf sandwich platter. With beef barley soup. And it did Not disappoint in any way shape or form. And what made our meal all the more better was our server, Mackenzie. She was a pro through and through. She was courteous, kind, cheerful, friendly and a whole bunch of other good adjectives. So between the food and service, I give them 10 stars. Thank you for making our meal all the more special, Mackenzie !!
Weve been going to The GliderDiner for years. Good food. They now have outdoor seating, its very nice on a nice day!
Came here for work from Petersburg. VaBurgers wieners and the made from scratch lasagna was awesome. Food was phenomenal. Recomend to anyone who comes here to eat
Breakfast is always exceptional. The hot roast beef and the french dip are fabulous. Fabulous beef gravy, coconut cream pie and homemade rice pudding.
Have to hit the Glider once while your in town, all of the homestyle platters are beyond delicious for diner food.Waitstaff is always friendly too

The food was great but the service was super. All the girls that work there are really the best in their field. I was very very impressed with the young waitress in the wheelchair. What a pleasure she was....and I have to give a thumbs up to management for giving this young lady a chance. She did a wonderful job and a big thank you to the manager....you made a great choice.
Food was great. I was still hungry after clearing my plate. It took a while for our order to be taken, and then a while for the food to arrive. Lots of other places to explore before returning. Oh. Beware the upcharges.

We went here recently on a trip to Scranton and it embodies the hometown classic diner feel. We went for breakfast and they brought out a TON of food. It was absolutely delicious and the service was fast. The cost was about what you would expect for a place like this and the decor inside and outside is exactly what we look for in a diner. Well definitely be back!

My mother got very sick. Pretty sure it was food poisoning as she was sick for 2 days. I would not recommend the hot turkey. All our other food was good though, however, I wont go back.

We had stopped there after a long drive bringing our son up to the university.It was late in the day and we were very tired and hungryThe diner itself seemed seedy and not really clean unfortunately, but we decided to go in regardless.Being famished should have, but didnt really weigh that heavily upon our decision.Certain foods were ( just,) ok, while other items (that came with plate), were out & out bad and not edible!!!When we mentioned this to the server, she said well why did you eat any of the food?In any event, we decided to just pay, leave tip, and be on our way.Consequently, we decided w-our son who goes to Scranton university an any of our family and friends that come with us will not go back there again when were up to visit for his future recitals and various universities functions.We are certain there are other eateries much better to dine at!!
Did not have social distancing for indoor dining was not comfortable with that. Also service was slow I waited almost an hour for a burger the mushroom swiss burger the cheese was virtually melted the 4 mushrooms were burnt
Guess it depends on who is cooking. First time I went, ordered breakfast and it was great! Recently, not so much.

The service in the mornings is wonderful. Their cornbeef hash is AMAZING!!! Its Homemade and should be served with 2 eggs and toast. Its that good. It was good to see a big piece of my childhood and life is Scranton is there. God bless its owner and staff. Ty for being a blessing to me and so many others over the decades. Service is good, food is good, parking is accessible. Got a turkey wrap with lettuce, bacon, and tomatoes. Fries came with it. If you nearby and hungry all I can say it is all worthy. Sorry no 5 stars for it an average place to eat.
Visited this place because its mentioned in The Office (US). We enjoyed a Reuben, and pie! Bathrooms are tiny, and a tad dirty, but it seems like a busy place.
The Glider is my ideal diner. Every other one has to compare to it. Everyone will talk about the roast beef and gravy but this is just the place for good food, period! Seat yourself and a server will be there within 2 minutes.Drink order? Done.Full order? DoneTook 3 sips of your coffee? Filled up. DoneWait 5 minutes? The food is in front of you, covering the table. Done.Halfway through your meal? No dessert? Heres your check. DoneAnd then you just eat and talk, or read, or gaze out on the street in the original diner with wrap around windows. Come to the Glider for the best deal in town: a full belly, served quickly with no fuss, for less than $15. This is an institution that isnt going anywhere.

My family as well as coworkers have made the Glider a go to for many years, dine in, takeout and helping support them with takeout and generous tips during the pandemic. BUT NOT AFTER TODAY !! Today my 80 something Mother and several friends went there for lunch. It was busy and delay in food arrival not a problem. When they asked for separate checks a woman employee ( not the waitress) loudly berated them (in front of other diners) saying something to the effect that the waitress was too busy for that and they would wait! And so they did…. embarrassed but quietly waited. WRONG! Whoever this employee is does not belong in public service and had no right to address any customer in this manner. For her information I had a bad day today at work too, but would be fired on the spot for this type of behavior! Not acceptable and a stain on your business’ reputation
Pretty gross place. When server wasn’t itching herself and rubbing her nose she was sneezing into her hand instead of her arm. Ice machine was uncovered and looked disgusting. Breakfast was cold and definitely not a 3 egg omelet. Home fries not cooked and cold with no seasoning. Will not return here, was completely disgusted.
It was pretty cool to return to the glider after so many years. I had forgotten the statement that my friend made when he recommended the meatloaf you wont be able to eat it all. Stopped in with dad. We were serviced to death. I read many reviews positive and negative. Our experience was very positive. Ive been treated fairly well most of the time .i believe because thats how I treat people . If I have nothing good to say...
Great little greasy spoon with quick service and giant cinnamon rolls.
Food was amazing, the service was a little slow but when we did get to see our server she was great. Appetizer came out within minutes of ordering, however our food took a while, but well worth the wait!
Breakfast was cold, took almost an hour, waitress took orders of those who came after us before. Food was missing from order, overall incredibly disappointing

This is usually one of my favorite places but this time I was really disappointed. The hostess didnt ask us how we wanted our burgers cooked. My husbands hamburger was dark and dry and my sister in-laws hot roast beef was cold and the bread was very soggy.
Couldnt wait to come visit from Florida, I missed there Tuna melt and fries with gravy

It was a great place when Chappy ran it. Since his passing it has gone down hill. Higher prices, smaller portions, extra charge for gravy on french fries, 3.99% charge for using your debit card and no hot platters on lunch specials. His greedy son must have Chappy rolling over in his grave.

The food was inedible and cold like potatoes out of the fridge not even microwaved. We came in at a quarter of 8 and did not receive our food until 8:30 and then felt rushed to eat because they were closing the kitchen and mopping next to us. On top of the food being shi**y the service was bad and all the workers kept taking 2 to 3 minute long bathroom breaks coming out rubbing their noses. My worst “diner” Experience ever!

Two reasons for my rating.1. They charge a surcharge when using your credit card when it is recommended to use cards over money due to the pandemic and coin shortage.2. Started our meal spread out like required, but halfway through breakfast they seated people at the table next to us. Way closer than 6 ft and no barrier. Since we were in the middle of eating we hurried a bit and left.
The glider is a Scranton landmark. Its not fancy, the parking circumstance is a bit odd... but its great. The food is delicious. The staff is friendlyThe prices are reasonable.

If I could leave a review with 0 stars I would. Placed a take out order for a later pick up... Apparently that meant make the food now and let it sit for 2 hours and get cold. Was charged for 3 orders of glider fries when only 2 orders were placed and none of the fries had the gravy as advertised on the menu. All the containers were stuffed into the bag so poorly that they were crushed. Disappointing doesnt even begin to describe the appearance or the taste but that is probably because everything needed to be reheated. Never again.
