The art here is beautiful. Almost everything is crafted by a local Arizona artist, and done so exquisitely. Rhonda helped greeted us upon entering the store immediately and established a calm atmosphere while helping us look at items. She directed our needs, and within 15 minutes we walked out of the store with the perfect turquoise bowl!

What an odd name, you might be thinking, for a gallery in Sedona....or for that matter anywhere. Hahaha....if you knew that it opened at the height of the Hippie movement back in the early 1970s, perhaps you understand a bit better. Had you seen Tlaquepaque in the earliest of its years, with artists living and creating in the workshops upstairs while their gallery were selling downstairs, youd also gather that some pretty different sort of folks founded this unique plaza. The folks who opened Environmental Realists were some of those early settlers from the 70s who read The Whole Earth Catalog with zeal and did their best to translate it into their daily jobs.I met Dmitri, one of the founders of the gallery, when he used to live in Cottonwood in an old VW van that was tricked out for trans-USA travel. He always had some sort of new idea that he was utilizing in his life and vocation and one day, all of of a sudden, he had a gallery, Environmental Realists, to display his technological and artistic favorites. After more than 40 years in the same place, it is the polished gem of the plaza, opening visitors minds and hearts daily. Stroll through Tlaquepaque and breeze in through this gallerys doors. Youll dig it Im sure.
