We hired the Hungry Hero to provide our wedding cake as well as three different types of cupcakes for wedding in September of 2021. Our wedding was originally scheduled for September of 2020 and when we had to postpone due to COVID, the Hungry Hero was very helpful and easy to communicate with about that process. In 2020 we did our tasting and got to try A LOT of different options which was really amazing. We ended up choosing a small lemon cake for my husband and myself to cut into and 150 cupcakes for our guests in flavors lemon, PB&J, and pink champagne. Everything was beautiful and delicious! The PB&J was our absolute favorite and we were able to take home quite a bit of them to continue to enjoy after the wedding. Thank you Hungry Hero for making our wedding dessert dreams come true!

We served Hungry Hero desserts at our wedding and couldnt be happier that we did! Everything looked and tasted so good! They had a great variety to choose from. We loved having a dessert table and also a small wedding cake for us to cut. And the cake was amazing! This small, local business in Sherwood certainly has big taste! We were so happy with the accommodations and service provided by The Hungry Hero Dessert Co. Everything from the cake tastings to the beautiful decorations. Several guests at our small ceremony said it was the best cake theyve ever had! The Hungry Hero has a beautiful store front. Staff is warm and engaged. Their chocolate frosting is to die for and everything (cookies, cupcakes, banana pudding) tastes great.I tried the rum cake and it was a little too sweet for me but I was excited to try something new. All the other cupcakes have been amazing. Their baked goods strike a note of nostalgia but also feel like an elevated dessert experience. Their variety in options and flavors make every trip here exciting. I feel lucky that we have a bakery like The Hungry Hero in our community.

Always great customer service and amazing desserts. We have purchased cakes for special occasions and they are always the hit of the party. I love that it’s a small business that gives back, they have a pantry to help those in need and since the pandemic, any kid who is hungry can walk in and ask for food. Try not to come too late for the best variety... have you tried the crust less cheesecake?! I had the pumpkin one today and it’s probably the best cheesecake I’ve ever had. This is by far the best bakery I have been to in the Portland metro area, or really anywhere. Ive honestly never felt the need to frequently visit a bakery... but then I found Hungry Hero, and found myself in here, no joke, every week for almost two months.There are numerous things Hungry Hero does right.1. The place is adorable.2. I love downtown Sherwood, and the location is easy to find.3. There are ever-changing menu options, as well as many standard staples.4. Everyone weve ever encountered who worked there has been super friendly.5. Theyre not overly expensive. For a bakery, I actually find the prices pretty reasonable.6. Everything - and I mean EVERYTHING - my friends or myself has tried has been fantastic. Some particular favorites are the Red Velvet Cupcakes, the Ooey Gooey Butter Bars, Suga Daddies, Gay Bars, Rice Krispy Treats, Oatmeal Butterscotch Cookies, and the various cookie sandwiches!

Incredible selection, everything Ive tried is fantastic! The sprinkle cookie and Gay Bar are my favorites. Warm, friendly staff and I especially love the support the owner shows towards important issues. That is uncommon in the Portland suburbs! I visit often and would 100% recommend that you do, too!

We had a great experience with Hungry Hero as our wedding dessert bakers! As a couple, we did not want to do the traditional cake and cake cutting so we opted for the generous table of desserts! Best decision! During the planning process of our wedding, one of my favorite memories is doing our tasting at Hungry Heros cozy shop. Everyone loved having dessert choices during the wedding and since we let our sweet tooth do the ordering we had plenty left to enjoy days after our reception! We cannot wait to come back for anniversary desserts!

OMG… wow. I’m flabbergasted at how delicious these treats are. Everything is fresh and just the right flavors and textures. And the Sugar Rush is the BEST!!! Highly recommend the Sugar Rush… graham cracker crust, caramel and chocolate and peanut butter cream frosting. Also, I like the inspirational cards at the register. So happy to have a high quality dessert place to indulge in and bring my friends and family to visit.

Im a huge fan of The Hungry Hero! Making a trip to visit the shop weekly has been my moment of joy each week. Whether birthday cakes for the kiddos, a delicious peppermint brownie, a ooey gooey delish butter bar, the ever fab gay bar, or a special treat like the holiday wreath from Alexs recent win on Sugar Rush ... I gladly sacrifice my waistline. And what makes it even better, the shop is one of the best community members youll ever encounter. Their new digs, combined with some of the friendliest staff in town will be one of the best places to stop and sit with friends as soon as we can socialize inside again!

I love this little bakery! Its worth a trip to Sherwood to stop by. Ive ordered two cakes, both of which have been delicious, but my real love is the bars! The peanut butter brownie bar is hands down my favorite. So rich, one bar will last you a couple days... But that doesnt stop me from walking out of there with at least 4 each time!

Arrived to pick up an ordered birthday cake. The writing was done in yellow and was difficult to read. The counter person agreed. She took it back to where lots of staff were working/standing, with my request to have the writing darker. She came back and said they were unable to do this. I said that you don’t have to remove the writing, just use a small decorator tip and print over with a darker color. She came back and said they only had one color (!) and they were too busy. I said what kind of bakery only has one color. They just looked at me. I paid for the cake and as I left, I said that I would be writing a bad review. (not in yellow). I was almost across the street when the owner? called to me and chastised me for being rude to his employees. Unbelievable. I have friends that recommended this place and said how nice the owners were. I will never return. In fact, the owner told me not to as he went back inside. POOR customer service.

Always great visiting hungry hero. Staff is very nice, and their selection of cookies and other items is extensive. Decided to try the oatmeal butterscotch cookie this go-around, and it was crazy good. Only thing that is missing is a selection of gluten free items so I have more of an excuse to visit HH (half the family is gluten free)!

Great selection and display of baked sweets. Like a willy wonka type moment every time you walk in. They even have gluten free cheesecake.

I had such a great experience with Alex and Zane at The Hungry Hero! They were responsive, fun, and friendly. Our wedding cake was simple and delicious - exactly how we wanted it - and when they delivered it, they styled it with the cake flowers we had purchased from our florist. It turned out SO CUTE! I was so happy to see it when I arrived at our reception! We also had a dessert table, and people were fighting over the bars! The gooey butter bars and the Debbie bars are 100% worth fighting for! They were SO good!!! Its probably a good thing I dont live super close to the bakery, because I would be dropping in for their bars all the time. I highly recommend them not only as a wedding vendor, but also as a great everyday bakery. I cant wait to go back for some goodies!

My fiancé and I booked our wedding cake and dessert table with this company for last year and we paid a 50% deposit of $256. We booked with them because the desserts were delicious and the staff was super friendly at our tasting. We had to postpone our wedding to 2021 due to covid, but since covid is still very present, we recently decided to cancel our wedding and just elope out of state. I sent in 3 emails to hungry hero and left a voicemail to cancel our contract before I finally heard back. I understand that they are a small business so instead of asking for a refund for my deposit, I requested a in store credit for a friends bridal shower for 15 guests. The owner, Alex, said he couldn’t refund us nor let us get any desserts for my friends bridal shower. He said the money can not be applied to anything else. He then went on to tell me about finances, and how they are in the hole because he has given refunds to people and can’t afford to do anymore. It doesn’t seem right that he has given refunds to some customers and not offering anything to others. I wasn’t asking for a full refund, I was asking for product with money I already paid, and he wasn’t willing to give me anything. I understand that they are a small business and I’m in full support of that, which is why I wasn’t asking for much. After going back and forth for 7 minutes, he decided to give me 12 cupcakes, and 12 brownies, out of the entire $256 that I paid. I’m super disappointed by this customer service. Businesses need to understand that Brides and grooms are also struggling with this pandemic, and the fact that he wouldn’t even let me use the amount of $256 that I had ALREADY PAID is not right. He is the only vendor from my wedding that did not refund me, even though all of my other vendors had non-refundable deposits too.

Ranging from delicious gluten free bites (I highly recommend the basque cheesecake) to absolutely decadent cakes, you are sure to always find something that satisfies your taste buds within a reasonable price range!The owners and shop attendents have always been especially kind and helpful. Even when one of my orders slipped through the cracks of a very busy week, the accomodations made were exceptional!This entire shop shows love and acceptance first. You will always feel welcome within these doors, and the owner ensures that hatered and and tomfoolery will be (quite literally) left outside.They also adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines to a T, making sure you feel safe while picking out your treats.

Deserts! We, as a couple, had a lot of debate about what we wanted for our wedding deserts. Cake? Donuts? Cupcakes? A combination? Then our wedding planner suggested a desert bar. Suddenly there was no more debate, we could have a bunch of deserts, why limit ourselves?! The Hungry Hero had some of the most delicious deserts that we found, and we had a hard time narrowing what options to include for our reception. They had a great range from cupcakes to cookies to bars to cake. The sweetheart cake we did a a cutting cake was elegant and tasty. We had a large dessert bar for the guests, which they absolutely loved. Everyone was able to have a little bit of a few different treats, and we received many complements on how delicious the desert options were. We ended up with a few leftovers, and have been taking them out of the freezer to eat on our monthly anniversaries. We are for sure going to stop in for more sweets the next time were in the area!

Hungry Hero is an amazing place to get your sweet fix. I personally have been here many times and find that the baked goods are always fresh and delectable. The peach pie I’ve had here reminds me of of my grandma’s from Mississippi. I’ve also ordered cupcakes for a birthday party and they were delightful. The owners are the coolest people to work with. They are incredibly responsive and you can tell they are just really good people. I personally can’t think of another place I’d want to give my hard earned money to.

We just moved to Sherwood a few weeks ago and tried The Hungry Hero this weekend after needing a sweet fix. We were not disappointed. The cinnamon rolls, made on Sundays only, are AMAZING. Im willing to run an extra 3 miles today to work it off and that says a lot. The staff is friendly and always greets you with a smile. Trust me, you will not be disappointed!

Very very dangerous place. Just the amazing smells drifting out to the street got our attention. The desserts are awesome and really rich. Service was great and friendly. 😋🎂. I love the butter bar and the cheeky gay bar. Well be back to try more. So many to choose from.

I was quite impressed by the quality of their selections.The Debbie bar was my first Hungry Hero experience. Graham crust, coconut, chocolate chips topped with potato chips held in place by a light glaze. It blew me away! The saltiness of the chips were a great offset to the sweetness of the rest of the ingredients. It was very fresh and oh so good.We went back the next day to speak to the owners Zane and Alex. They were quite friendly and amazingly generous with their time to speak to us about their history, the town, and the community.Several hungry community members came in while we were there and they were all lovely people willing to chat with us as well. We also bought several more bakery items to fly home to LA for a graduation party the next day. Yes... We also ate some ourselves! The raspberry shortbread and lemon bar were particularly excellent. As were the sprinkle & snickerdoodle cookies. So much more to try... And I want to try those beautiful cupcakes!!Were considering a move to the Sherwood area and The Hungry Hero gave us a very comfortable feeling about the town, the townspeople and their shop!

The Hungry Hero shop is nestled right in the heart of old town and offers its perfectly quaint charm on every visit. Be sure to get in there early on Sundays for the cinnamon rolls, they sell out quick and for good reason. You wont be disappointed!

This is one of Sherwoods finest. This bakery isnt just good for a small town, it would be amazing for a big city. Friendly staff with a great sense of humor who make some of the most delicious treats that your mouth could ever ask for.

Everything is amazing!My favorite part is that every day is a surprise, as you never know what treats they will make until you check their FB each morning.Theyve always come through with great cakes and pies for all of our events, and can be seen at all the local shin-digs.

Absolutely awful! I waited 25 minutes for my order and ended up finding hair in my pastries. Highly advise staying away from this trash.

Update: Moved back to the area and stopped in again. Prices were listed, sales gal was friendly and helpful (and did the math correctly unlike the gal we previously encountered), and--most importantly--our cupcakes were moist and the bars chewy. Prices are reasonable for a boutique bakery. Im so glad to see that our previous experience was just a bad day, and we will be back! Bumping from 4 stars to a full 5._____2018: Popped in here on a whim (because of their “all welcome” sign) and were greeted by wonderful smells. Pricing was a bit confusing, as there are no prices for individual pieces (only whole pies/cakes and by the dozen) so we were trying to guess what things cost based off of the customers in front of us. There are also no signs labeling what is currently available for purchase. Our blondie with chocolate and pecans was disappointingly hard and a dry (so much so that we couldn’t break it apart to share it), but loaded with pecans and chocolate. We got a good feeling about this place, and might have just hit a bad day. I’m willing to give it another try.

Man, this place. Wow. They are generally geared towards large orders like whole cakes or smaller items by the dozens, so dont be bummed when you stroll in and see a very limited selection of stuff available on the spot. What they do have though is INCREDIBLE. Salted caramel banana bread cupcakes are my end-all-be-all of desserts.
