Absolutely amazing place!I have a 1976 Dodge Dart that has been leaking oil for a full year. No other mechanic could find the leak, let alone fix it. But Eric found and fixed the oil leak and a few other things very quickly!They kept in constant communication with me and always gave me options.I definitely plan to take my cars there forever now!

The staff are always extremely helpful and explain exactly what needs to be done on my car. I am disabled and use a walker and they were kind enough to give me a ride home while my car was in the shop. When my car was finished, they were kind enough to take my payment over the phone then dropped my car off at my home. This personal touch meant a great deal to me. Shealyn, the manager, is awesome and has excellent customer service skills.

Shealyn was returning my roommates car from her annual State Inspection. I asked her if was there a possibility she could drive my car back to the garage and have the State Inspection done on mine. She said that would not be a problem and that she would call with an update and for a payment over the phone. When she called to tell me it had passed inspection, she said she would be over shortly with my car. I am very grateful to her for helping me out this way since I am still recovering from a recent hospital stay. I truly appreciate the staff of the South Portland Auto Care Plus!

In the past I have had great luck with this business but my most recent experience has been extremely disturbing and emotional. I had a part fixed back in February with my rear end, hitch etc. They had to replace the entire unit. In doing research on my truck to find out its towing capacity for towing my boat I found out that when they replaced the parts they actually didnt replace it with the same standard part they they took off which changed my towing capacity. I was told they could upgrade it to what it was but it would cost more and I would have to pay for labor. I dont believe I should be paying for labor again for a mistake they made. They also gave me a price for the part and then said when they called to order the part it was going to be way more and labor was still in the price. They did say they would deduct the cost of the original part that they put on. I am more disturbed that I was never informed that the proper replacement part wasnt put on and I had to find out on my own. I truly believe that they should somehow make this right but...I will be going back to my old mechanic which is a little further away but at least I trust him.

Shealyn and Shelby went above and beyond to help me recently when I found myself with a flat tire and needing a quick turn around time to have a new tire put on. They squeezed me in on a Friday afternoon, went and picked up new tires from me from a different location, and also had one of their mechanics stay late to expedite my service. I was very happy with my experience here and I would recommend it to anyone!

Good mechanics it seems, they knew some good old school tricks to save some money. However classic pushy up sale attempts and they seemed to get defensive when when I knew better and wouldnt pay for any additional services such as a leaky tie rod end (those dont have anything to leak) with no pictures? But pictures of my new brakes and every angle of the exterior, and fluid flushes for moisture accumulation for a vehicle that has sat a week or two without a long drive, which is completely normal and evaporates. Good service from mechanics probably but pushy up charge attempts... To be expected I guess

Would highly recommend this auto shop! Our car unfortunately started to overheat, so we searched for any mechanics nearby. We were fortunate we found Auto Care Plus Complete as they were able to get us in immediately and ensure that everything would be resolved quickly. Shealyn was extremely helpful with walking through the diagnostics they would run as well as their findings. We had a quick resolution to our problem, and were very pleased with the level of service we received!

Well first off I went there to get my ABS light fixed and had them check some other stuff I agreed to pay a little over $1300 to get everything fixed. My main concern was the ABS system well they said they got the part and I would get my car back the next day. Got a call today saying the part we got was to short then they got a new one in and they said it was defected. Then I went to get my truck they gave it back then driving not even a mile down the road the car died out I looked under the hood and there mechanic didn’t put my oil cap back on so the car died down.

Auto Care Plus in South Portland is not the place to go if you are looking for reasonable prices on your car repairs. They send out coupons in the mail and have a rewards program which doesnt help you much when you look at how much they charge here. Very expensive for even minor repairs. Not to mention that they tried to bill for more hours for investigating an issue that wasnt really an issue. So glad I went elsewhere and got everything taken care of (plus some additional work) and paid much less than quoted at Auto Care. If you dont mind paying premium prices, then by all means go here. If looking to get quality work which is reasonably priced, I suggest avoiding Auto Care.

Autocare Plus always is fair and honest with me about what services Ill need fixed and when. Ive relied on them for years and I trust no other auto maintenance shop with my car. They always seem to care more about the customer than about the money.

Such a relief to have a garage that I can trust to consistently do excellent work, do only what is actually needed, routinely underestimate cost, and just be good people!

Super friendly over the phone and in person, work was done super fast, dropped off my car thinking a couple of days, got it the next day! Highly recommend, as they are now my new local mechanic. Could not have asked for a better experience or service!

Unfortunate that I have to write this. Filed a complaint with the state police today because these guys failed my Jeep for inspection because the backing plate of the left rear drum brake has slight oil seepage from the axle seal. The statute in the inspection manual calls for failure if the friction surface is contaminated with oil, which it clearly is not, and they acknowledge it is not. They are failing me preemptively because the seep could hypothetically get worse and then cause an issue. It wont, and if it did I would fix it then, not now. My guess, this will last another 15 years before it becomes a real problem because thats how long the first seal lasted. They will post a reply here saying it is unsafe and I should be ashamed, but look at the photos for yourself. The axle, seal, and brake components are nearly brand new and the brake works 100% today, which they acknowledge. Look at the photos. Brake has not been cleaned by anyone. Anyone who has ever opened a drum brake would think you could eat off of this one. And Im being failed for it. Not because its currently unsafe but because it could possibly become unsafe in the future. That is NOT the statute and NOT ok.

Had a very positive, thorough, and responsive experience with Shealyn and team after a not-so-accommodating experience at our dealership when we had some car troubles that would have been dangerous to continue driving on. The report that Auto Care Plus sends detailing all the things they’ve discovered, services they recommend, and price breakdown for each was SO helpful in deciding what we could move forward with and not feel like we were overpaying or paying for unnecessary things.ALSO the loaner car was offered to us immediately and truly saved us over the weekend when the car wouldn’t be ready — reassuring since we don’t live nearby.Will go back!

Shealyn and Anthony really took care of me and I was very pleased with their attention to detail. I’ve used this shop for a long time for all my vehicles because I totally trust them. This work was performed on my 2016 4Runner which is my daily driver. I also have them do all the work on my 2003 Mustang Mach 1 which is a specialty car.

You wont find a friendlier front desk receptionist anywhere! Kathy truly made me feel respected and valued as a customer, and I looked forward to returning for my car to talk with her again. On that note, the complementary loaner was an incredible convenience, allowing me to work through the day and not have to sit in a public place during a pandemic! Came in with a used vehicle expecting a nightmare of a time to get it inspected. I was sooo impressed with their speed and professionalism in getting my car up to snuff and on the road. Reasonably priced and the woman at the desk, Shealyn, made everything so painless. My new favorite shop!

My ac was acting up out of nowhere . Turned it on and started to hear a rumbling . Didn’t know if I could use my AC . With the temperature being 92 degrees I was really suffering . Looking around for a mechanic was my first step . Called two places before finding this gem. The other two places were not able to squeeze me in but Auto Care Plus made it possible for me to bring my car in right away. I am originally from NJ and came to Maine to clear my mind. NJ is always running on high!! So I can’t express how happy I was to find a quick solution to my car issues. The point of my travels was for me to be issue free. From the moment I arrived I was welcomed with a warm greeting . The receptionist ( beauty with the curls ) I’m sorry I forgot her name assisted me and explained everything thoroughly . Kevin the technician was so informative and full of joy 😁 I felt like I was in the right hands . My husband and I wanted to go for a walk since we had to to wait about 1 hr and half. Before I even picked my phone to call a cab the receptionist come to us to offer their shop car . I was so happy by the service . I would not get this service in Jersey . I’m a customer for life now .P.S My trunk had an issue where it stopped opening. Kevin the technician needed the trunk opened so I opened the back door and pushed the seat forward of my car (Ford Focus 2012) . Then I climbed over my back seats to the trunk to pull the trunk emergency lever from the inside and the trunk then opened. It was a hassle and very inconvenient. This issue was not on the list of things to fix . When me and my husband picked up the car we were informed they fixed the “trunk” issue for us . That was so sweet and I won’t forget the gesture .

This place is good at looking at your car issues and letting you know what needs to be fixed.

I hate to write negative reviews, but I honestly believe folks should go elsewhere for inspections and repairs. They are extremely overpriced (they were charging me $90 to replace a plate bulb that I replaced myself in 10 minutes). There were other things that I needed to pass inspection and I fixed those issues at another location for $1000 less then Auto Care Plus charged. After all the repairs I came back for a re-inspection and I failed for something I knew was not necessary. I brought my car to another location for an inspection same day and passed. If you have an issue with your car and you check this place out at least get a 2nd opinion.

Cathy was really helpful and friendly. There was a lot of phone calls and other customers when I was in the office. She did well with assisting everyone. The prices were affordable and the service was moderately quick!

Great place overall. Kathy is amazing and the mechanics are friendly and courteous and very patient. However they did misdiagnose my problem which wouldn’t be an issue if they didn’t charge for a diagnostic but it is what it is. I had a wonderful experience, they took me in ASAP and treated me like a friend... even gave me a free soda! I would certainly recommend them to anyone in need of auto care. Thank you!

This place takes no COVID precautions I can see. The staff has no masks on, not even when driving the car into the garage. I felt unsafe inside and later in my car. I do not recommend Auto Care Plus and I will not go there again.

My parents and other family members have been coming to Auto Care Plus (previously McKinneys) in South Portland for over 20 years now, and i have been taking my car in now whenever it needs work done. Service is always done timely and with no worries that anything is done wrong. Costumer service is the best youll find at any auto repair shop with employees like Matt Walls and Kathy who always listen and tend to the costumers questions and needs before anything else.

Amazing service and prices! They even took me into Portland for work in the morning, which was very much appreciated! I hope I spell this right, but Kathy/Cathy even had to call later on and deliver some not-so-great news to me about my car, but was SO helpful at explaining to me my options! Will be back!

I had such an awesome experience with the team at Auto Care Plus! Kathy was amazing (Ingrid too), the technician (forgot his name - great beard), and the follow up from the owner, John. I wasnt expecting the repair (went in for Maine car inspection having recently moved to Portland), and they were able to get it finished the same day (with a loaner car so I could get my work done for the day)! While no one looks forward to having car repairs, Auto Care Plus South Portland will make it as enjoyable as it can be!

After 20 years, I was shocked at my recent cost for repairs. I did a price check on parts and labor is 129.00 an hour, I was quoted 421? For 2 brackets, a bulb and inspection. My total was right around 300. Your mark up on parts is absurd. I will be going else where. I ended up paying 351.00 after fair market and thats more than 100% mark up on parts. I had great service, I walked about 20 minutes to the mall while they replaced my break pads and some other problems they discovered. The waiting area was air conditioned and comfortable. The price seemed reasonable although I dont have much experience with this sort of thing yet. But Ill definitely be going back for future repairs despite other places being much closer to where I live

I highly recommend Auto Care Plus in South Portland ME. The service was extraordinary. Matt Walls, the Service Advisor, was genuinely courteous and very helpful. I had my car towed there because my automatic transmission shifting cable had snapped and needed to be replaced ( after having it towed to a transmission specialist who told me that they werent interested in fixing a broken transmission cable). I have been driving quality used cars for over 40 years and have dealt with many independently owned garages. I will definitely use them again.

Auto care plus fit us in after we broke down while visiting from Vermont. Highly recommend their repair shop. The car repair place has a shuttle and he’s knowledgeable about local breweries. Wonderful experience all around

First they couldnt tell me their hourly rate because it depended on how technical then they couldnt tell me their markup on parts because it goes into a matrix then they went to charge me 700 for a motor (which they said was broken) and regulator for the window. When I told them that was too much and picked it up they then said well the motor could last a bit longer and didnt need it right away. All said and done the fix cost me $200 somewhere else. My personal opinion is that they were trying to rip me off and got nervous when I said I was bringing it somewhere else and started back tracking on what they originally said. The motor was fine!

The service here is top notch; the staff are very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful, always going above and beyond. They are also honest and upfront about costs and recommendations, but never pushy; they do their best to work with me to help me keep my car in its best shape while staying conscious of any budget concerns I may have. They consistently offer great deals and send me coupons and promotions every month. The shop has a clean and comfortable waiting area, but best of all, they also offer FREE loaner cars and/or rides if you need to get to and from work while your car is in the shop. I went to AC Plus (S, Portland) for a sticker, and even though it was last minute, they got it done within the hour.Matt (the manager) was relaxed, but super professional. He sounded genuinely caring with the customer in front of me whose car had just broken down, and was on a tight budget.A few days later, John (the owner) personally texts me to thank me for my business, and to ask about my experience. Thats not only classy, but also great customer care - considering how hard it is been to find a quality, trustworthy service near me.Getting a sticker is not a true test of their skills, but all the same, I enjoyed the customer service experience, and will soon bring our other car in for service.Ill definitely recommend this place to my friends, and will even come back and update this review with more details - whenever I visit. 🙏

After receiving mailings from these guys for several months I decided this past October to give them a try and I was far from disappointed. I had the oil changed and tires rotated and at a great price, and on top of that everyone was really nice and answered all of my questions about possible further work. I went to AutoCare Plus in South Portland recently at the recommendation of a friend. I am very pleased. All the work that needed to be done was explained clearly and the prices were great. I took advantage of their new rewards card and am glad I did. I have recommended this shop to others.

They didnt over charge me like the dealership tried to. Gave me real and good advice about what my car needed and what could wait. Actually went by the law for inspection. The dealer tried to get an extra $2000 Out of me for things that werent state inspection pieces. Me and my BMW love Auto Care Plus.

My wife and I just moved here to South Portland and were in need of repairs to our Hyundai Elantra. The staff at Auto Care Plus on Westbrook St are amazing. They diagnosed our car as needing a new starter after we thought our car needed a battery charge. It explained the hesitation and even lack of starting we experienced during our move up here. We also had them upgrade our tires to all season tires as we wanted to make sure the car was ready to drive on snow and ice. They found us a great deal and even included free rotation and balancing for the life of the tires. We will be bringing my truck in next and highly recommend their services to anyone!

I needed an inspection sticker ASAP, and the team at Auto Care Plus got me in and out amazingly fast. Its nice to be able to have a mechanic in my neighborhood, that I actually want to bring my car to a second time. Great service, friendly staff and affordable prices.

I used this services to repair the rear defroster of my vehicle about two weeks ago. They inspected the car to find the problem and solution and did not fix the problem. I did not notice until my windows was frozen. what a horrible service. I trust this shop. I had to come back. After I leave my car for 4.5 hrs I got a call telling me that I have to pay $350 for a connector. They charged me and my car still broken. There are better places out there. Never again

The crew at Auto Care Plus is very knowledgeable and caring. They have explained all the different car issues Ive had in a way that I could understand and make well informed decisions about next steps. They follow up to make sure everything is okay. This is my best mechanic experience yet.

Writing this because of multiple services I have had from this auto care plus. Full acknowledgement that my car is a piece of s*** and frustrating to work on. However, my first bad experience with this garage was a few weeks ago. My car had been acting up and I thought I needed an oil change so I made an appointment with them for the next day. I ended up breaking down and got my car towed to them the day before the appointment. They said a new radiator for my 98 4runner was going to cost around $750.... this is ridiculous. They gave me the quote and I said I’d call them back. I ended up going to the shop to pick up the car and say no thanks, but they had already started working on it!!!!! They had done the oil change, which actually didn’t need to be done, and still had a few hundred miles to go before it needed to be done, which they could have seen from the sticker. They also had a skid plate off the car that they said they forgot to put back on, and they placed that in my trunk when I left to get my radiator fixed elsewhere. The part itself cost $100 and the labor time to fix it was around 20 minutes, none of which I had done at auto care plus. The second issue with auto care plus, I had today. I took my car in for bucking and stuttering while idling and at low speeds. They called me back the same day and said they couldn’t figure out what was wrong. They couldn’t make the car do what I had said it was doing, which is complete fine. However, Matt said that he could keep it overnight and check it out first thing in the morning to see if a “cold start” would change things. He didn’t mention any storage fees, or anything like that so I agreed. The next day they call back and said we’ve taken it on numerous drives, and we still can’t seem to get it to do what you saw. Okay, no problem. Except, I was charged $120 for storage fees and labor.......... even though they couldn’t even figure out what I was seeing. They said they drove the car for 2 hours total, which seems completely unreasonable, especially as I said that it only happened while idiling or at extremely low speeds. So not only was I charged to find out NOTHING about my car issue, they drove my car excessively which wasted the gas, and they did work on my car without my consent at a previous time. I won’t be coming back to this garage.

I can honestly say that the level of customer care and expert service provided by Auto Care Plus is unequaled in 50+ years of car repair experiences. Matt, Kevin, Dale and the gang have been nothing but helpful. But the #1 selling point for us has been HONESTY. You dont pay for work you do not need. Never. Try to find that just anywhere today.

I had a strange light appear on my dashboard and new there was a problem that needed to be handled ASAP. I made an online appointment (very easy) and they took the car right away…offered me a ride to anywhere i needed to go, and gave me an estimate of how long it would take. When they had finished with the car, the very courteous mechanic brought out the paperwork and thoroughly explained the issue. They said they would need to order a part and Id have to bring the car back in. The part was in sooner than expected and they were able to get the car back in right away, and the repair work was quick and straight forward. Problem solved in 3 days, and I couldnt be more pleased the efficient and professional service!

Im not one to leave a review, but Auto Care Plus in South Portland went above and beyond any expectations I had, so I had to leave one. I was having battery issues the day before Christmas Eve and had my car towed there to figure out the issue. I was not expecting to hear back until after the holiday, but Matt contacted me before they left for the day to let me know of the progress they made. Although it needed further investigating, they promptly got back to me on December 26th to give me an update and fixed my issue the same day. The amount of care they put into their work is noticeable and appreciated. This is the best auto care service I have ever received and will be returning for future work as well as recommending them to everyone I know.

Let me share my tale of woe; left a friends house on the way back to Mass in a light snow, no heat or defrost in the car, I looked over and the temperature gauge was pegged. Google led us to South Portland Auto Care plus with minor clouds of steam and an odor of burnt rubber. They diagnosed the problem, which turned out to be a thermostat and the damage from driving with the temperature pegged. They were able to work us in for a diagnosis that afternoon and arranged for Enterprise to pick us up and got us a decent rate on the rental car to get us back home. All that being said, the cost for the repairs were reasonable and they fixed it promptly.

Ive been going to Auto Care Plus for about a year now, and they have been nothing but honest and more than fair with me. They do great work on my car and when possible help me save money. I recommend them to my friends and I recommend them to you.

I had an excellent experience of service at Autocare plus in South Portland. I came in with a transmission problem that had been diagnosed elsewhere but I wanted a second opinion. The transmission problem was confirmed but Matt unasked made a call to GM to see if some of the bill could be covered under warranty. No luck there, but he offered to give me transportation to return my rental car. When I arrived to pick up my car he had arranged that the rental car company (Hertz) would pick up the vehicle at AutoCare Plus so I could just get my repaired vehicle and head home. Thanks for the great service Matt.

These guys are awesome! Matt dropped us off at Allagash and picked us up when the car was done. Full of knowledge about the area, down to earth, highly recommend this repair station if you’re in a jam!

Great shop, they gave me a quick shuttle service while they had my truck for an inspection. Pointed out one or two things that were starting to age but still ok so passed it. The big name shops will always come up with estimates on new brakes, ball joints, alignments, etc. even if repairs are not needed immediately but these guys seem much more practical and super courteous.

Every time Ive gone here, the person at the counter has been very friendly, the service has been quicker than expected, and they have never tried to get me to fix something that didnt need fixing.. They also regularly offer great discounts. I trust Auto Care Plus and their staff and I would recommend them highly to anybody!

Finding an auto repair shop that is honest, trustworthy and reliable can be a challenge. Once I found Auto Care Plus, that search was over. In the years I have been bringing my vehicles to the fine folks there I have never been steered wrong, sold work that did not need to be done, nor had problems with any repairs they have performed. They are very upfront with notifying me in advance of any issues that need to be addressed immediately or in the future and give me options as to how to proceed. I am generally a skeptical person but I have learned to trust Auto Care Plus to do whats right for me and my vehicle.

When other shops told me they couldnt even look at my truck until Tuesday kathy told me they could have it fixed BY tuesday. And that was even with them only having one mechanic on duty at the time. Matt the manager was still able to accomplish that time frame even when I added a few more things to the list. The truck was well taken care of and runs well the bottom line is although I live over an hour away I will most likely be bringing my vehicle here to have work done. Their customer service was excellent on all fronts, their prices were right on par with where I thought they should be and they even offer a loaner car service if you need some help getting around. All and all you couldnt ask for more from a repair shop and even the waiting area and service desk was clean and didnt smell of grease, if thats an important thing to you. Thank you matt and kathy for all your help and quick turn around.

Ive gone here twice for repairs, each time they didnt try to sell me on anything I didnt need. Ive gone places that tried to get me to have work done on other parts when it wasnt needed and these guys just dont do that. Very grateful for the fast and quality service.

I am from out of the area and needed an oil change and tires rotated. I first went to a national brand oil change company and didnt feel comfortable. I googled and found Auto Care Plus. Matt made me feel comfortable with his friendly and honest nature about their services.I would recommend Auto Care Plus.I also appreciated free strong signal wifi, and a clean waiting area to work while I waited for my car to be serviced!

Went in for an inspection and there were a couple of big problems. Even though repairs would take considerable time, Mat not only gave me a loaner, but managed to get the work done on the same day I went in. Extremely knowledgeable even with my old beater, a 2002 Ford Focus. Excellent work! Ill be back again!

For years I have been coming here. Its a place I can trust. I dont have to worry about being taken advantage of; they are clear and up front about whats recommended and whats necessary. Plus I can get a ride to work, or a loaner car.(I first posted this some time ago, and equally true now, in Sept. of 2015!)

I have been bringing my vehicles here for a few years now and I trust them because they truly care about their customers and deliver quality services for reasonable costs. They always take the time to explain problems and I feel they have always been resonable. I wouldnt go anywhere else.

I had been going to this location for a couple of years. Then ownership changed. I went there for issues with my Jeep shortly after. I was told I had to have the pump replaced, hoses and radiator. I wasnt convinced with all of that so took it elsewhere for a second opinion. The other place said the radiator was fine (but concurred with the pump and hoses). Later I had to go back to them for damage to struts that were still under warranty. While there they said that the other guys screwed up the oil pan -- said it didnt fit and that I had a leak and they would have to replace it. I hadnt noticed a leak before. I told them to stick with the warrantied work only. Of course, when I left, sure enough, the vehicle was dripping oil. As bad as that leak was -- I would have noticed it. I went to the people that did the original work who said that screws on the oil pan were loose. They tightened the screws at no cost to me. Auto Care Plus left me with the impression (TWICE) that they were trying to sell me on unnecessary repairs. (whats more disturbing is the thought that a mechanic would intentionally loosen screws on an oil pan (sabotaging my vehicle!!!)) I would not recommend them.

Reasonable pricing and good service. They caught the issues the dealer missed and fixed them in a timely manner at a reasonable cost.

An advertisement invited customers to visit to see for themselves. I thought I should give them a try. I visited Auto Care Plus to have my oil changed. Wow! It was well worth the visit. We will be going back.

I have received nothing but the best services from the folks here. A few months ago, my ignition cylinder went, not only did the people here get my car done in a timely manner, it was early! I recently wenot in for some more work (front brakes, inspection, oil change, etc) and they had my vehicle done that SAME day! Talk about service!!! The guys up at the front desk are super friendly and genuinely concerned with making sure all our needs as customers are taken care of. I highly recommend this business to anyone tired of being treated like crap, and to anyone who likes outstanding service with a smile. I will continue to take all my cars here in the future.
