There are times have found that the croissants were burned. In fact one time I even drove back to return them. Perhaps you should consider adjusting the oven time. I have always enjoyed your pastries, but this is an issue.
The high ratings are surprising. This location seems pretty run down (picture of the ragged booth seats below). The walls behind booths were visibly covered in dust and dirt marks. For $$ breakfast the atmosphere was very flat and fairly filthy. The food was not thrilling. Breakfast sandwich sausage meat was overly salty and seemed like they just popped it in the microwave before serving. Pastries are decent but can be dry.
Get the oatmeal cream pie sandwich. It’s the eBay I’ve ever had! The cookies are great and have that great, strong ginger taste. The cream is the perfect amount of sweet. The frose is delicious. Mimosas are lovely. The breakfast is good. The iced chai lattes could be less watery but every thing else is fabulous. I typically get the biscuits and gravy and a side of bacon. The gravy is tasty and the biscuits are soft. The brussel sprouts for dinner or lunch are so good! The pork in it is tasty and the sweet glaze is the perfect addition.
Really slow. Trying to eat here because the food was good when they opened and I like having it in the neighborhood but menu changes are to the worse and the last two orders the to go wait is much longer than advertised. Ordered 30 minutes ahead this time and arrived on time to hear that because I had ordered the kids’ sliders “medium well” the order would take longer. 20 minutes later I asked again and they finally put it together. Yeah 50 minutes for some 1/8” thick sliders. One more chance…..
The pastries and coffee were good. My reason for only 2 stars is that the service is always terrible at this location. Every time I’ve been here the staff forget about 1 or 2 items in my order and when we ask about it they still keep forgetting to bring it out. I was told that they “lost” my pastry after waiting 15 minutes for it. Won’t be going back there again.
Overall great experience and a wonderful find. The only reason they lost a star is the dining room is very cramped, our waiter had to ask someone to move to get to us and only about half the tables were full. And we had to clean our table before we sat, presumably because they couldnt get to it to clean. Other then that the food was light and wonderful flavors. Will return.
Me and my friend participated in the HRW lunch special here.We both got the Beet, Orange and Goat Cheese salad. It’s the smaller size but was still a good amount of tasty arugula, goat cheese, delicious dressing amongst the other ingredients. The salad was great. My only recommendation for this is to cut the fruit into smaller bites.Next she got the Texas Club and I got the Charcuterie Bagette. Though I like the ingredients of my sandwich, something was missing. I think it was the lack of condiments. There was too much bread for my liking and it was thus a very dry sandwich. In all honesty I could have had a better sandwich from subway for less money with more on it and customized to my liking. My friends’ club had a similar experience. The saving grace for the sandwich’s is that they come with fries. Mine being Parmesan and I thought they were tasty. As for dessert we both ordered the Coconut Tropical Entrement. Unfortunately, only one was available so they substituted and gave us a lemon alternative. These desserts to me were exotic and I truly enjoyed sampling both. I liked the lemon even more than the Coconut which surprised me.Not included with the HRW special I got three macarons. Fig with goat cheese, strawberry and Lavender. To me, the Lavender was my favorite followed by the fig with goat cheese. I don’t think the strawberry lived up to its name unfortunately.Overall, I do think this was a great experience and I would repeat it for what you pay and how much food you get.
Bubbly, energetic, kind individuals. Love the aesthetic, the food and of course the coffee! I’m glad I took the time out to stop here, you won’t regret it!
The pastries, croissants, breads, and cakes on display are mesmerizing.I tried the Classic Chocolate Chip cookie. It was okay.It was light, airy, semi-sweet and a little dry.I would have preferred it sweeter and more doughy. This cafe & bakery is popular and usually busy. The space is small, and when the dining room is full it gets loud.I wouldn’t recommend dining in if you want a quiet meal.
I’ve been to the one in the montrose area & I think I like that one the most, we waited 30 min for our food to be ready it wasn’t even busy we went around 12:30,the tables weren’t clean, there was one barrista & after 30 min I guess the manager decided to help him, they brought the coffee mugs & wine glasses in the same bucket tray, can’t forget the spray of milk they gave me with my cold brew,I feel like there should be more help out from the tables been clean to the water refilled & the doors been cleaned, the one in montrose is way more busier & we didn’t have to wait that long
Second visit. Got there early. So many awesome choices. Everything I got was great and in beautiful boxes. All fresh. Very nice. Note, no cash accepted.
Got the Boston creme Kugelhopf, the Kouign-Amann, the chocolate chip cookie, and the triple chocolate chip cookie. The kugelhopf was alright. It tasted exactly how it sounds but nothing special IMO. The kouign-amann was pretty good. Nice airy pastry. The chocolate chip cookie was ok. I like the the ones at Tiny’s significantly better. If I had to get a cookie again I’d opt for the triple chocolate one. Probably won’t be splurging on the other bakery items again.
Staff is rude. Food was good but staff and customer service was so terrible I will not be back.
Actual Star rating 4.6.So I get the French toast w/bacon and strawberries. Eat some of the French toast by itself, meh. But Im a trekker so I keep trudging.I figure out the way the meal was intended after I fork some bacon, a strawberry, and then some French toast. Woah! MAJOR game shift. This is it! Savory, sweet, chewy, crunchy, cool, and warm all cooperating with perfectly conjoining hands like a symbol of world peace. Please go and be enjoyed. Get you a window seat. So people can see you smiling whilst eating.Bon Appetit!
I love the food and pastries. please please bring back the fig and goat cheese macarons!!
My mom was here yesterday and waited in curbside for 15 minutes after the specified time. She called and the worker said she forgot about her. Then she got her salad and there was no dressing or bread. She went back and the same worker argued with her that the dressing was already on the salad, which it clearly wasn’t. Then she left without dressing or baguette. Instead of replacing the baguette she said she would take it off the price of the salad. TERRIBLE customer service!!! Management needs to get the workers so they aren’t arguing with the customer. In service industry the customer should always be right even if they are wrong. Food was just ok. We will not be going back to this location.
I came into Common Bond twice this week Tuesday evening and Thursday evening. I had the same staff person attend to me, and I was so impressed that they remembered me from earlier in the week. I meant to ask their name, but forgot. It was a younger person, with blonde hair, and glasses. I think they had a cap on both time. It was stupendous customer service. If they read this thank you. If your boss reads this, Give them a raise!
Got burgers. They were salty, but I still ate mine & the wife half. Fries were great. If broiler burger never reopens I guess this will be our burger joint.Pretty interested in the rest of the menu, The baked items definitely need checking out. The wife forgot my dessert. (good thing she only ate half her burger & fries)
I was very put off by my experience here. The location on Westheimer is much more friendly, but I live just down the street so I thought it would be convenient. When I walked in there were a few people sitting at tables but it wasn’t incredibly busy. I waited at the register for a few minutes for someone to greet me or acknowledge that I wanted to place an order. When someone did arrive he asked for my name, then asked if I was picking up. I said no but I would like to place an order, and asked if that was alright. He said it was but then he made a comment about how it was difficult to watch the register and do everything else. I ordered a croissant and an iced americano. The second issue I had was when I asked for a “splash of cream” (in my mind a one second pour), the barista poured 1/4-1/2 cup of cream in! My picture is not of an iced latte; an iced americano should definitely not look like this unless requested. It was in drinkable so I threw it away. If you like your coffee with a splash of anything, be specific about your quantities - lesson learned. That being said they do make lovely croissants and other pastries so if you want a nice treat, order pickup.Overall, very little hospitality; definitely will consider other options for a quick coffee before returning.*** I am looking forward to giving this place another chance since the manager is so sweet, and I genuinely had a wonderful impression of the other location.
This place was not what I was expecting when we read the menu. As we walked up I knew I was overdressed. Its a counter service bakery. Dress as casual as you would like for this one, but dont expect casual food. Yes, they do have wine. We had the restaurant weeks menu. To start I had the Roast Cauliflower Tartine. It was very good, but my wife had the Sweet Corn Bisque...OMG it was awesome. The Bisque is sweet whereas the Tartine was more savory. So theres the main difference. For my entree I had the Beef Bourguignon. It was just delicious. The beef was so tender and the gravy was full of flavor. I chose the three macaroons for my finisher. I chose sea salt caramel, lavender and white chocolate, and the last one I went out on a limb - fig and goat cheese. All of them were good. I cant leave a bakery without a brownie, so I got some of those too. Im so happy we came here. Highly recommended.
Ive been to most of the locations and this one stays true to common bonds reputation. After the expansion, there is much more space to sit and eat with counter space as well. The artichoke dip was delicious and definitely a good sharing portion for 2. Their macarons and desserts never fail to disappoint as well!
Nice place for breakfast. They have some outdoor seating, and the food was good. There are less expensive alternatives, but the quality you receive here is good.
Reliable good food, for anytime you need a pick me up. Part French bakery with croissants etc. Part American bistro with the entrees and cookies and American style, over the top, fanciful buttercream cakes with built up architecturally structured toppings. Perfect for grown up birthdaysbirthday cakes for grown up.
Employee put my UberEats order in the system wrong. When I called, employee admitted they made the error, but I needed to take more time and call Uber eats to be refunded. They did not offer to make the item and deliver it to the hospital where my wife is at. Not sure when it’s ok as a company to make mistakes and then penalize the paying customer.Their food is solid and have had great experiences in the past. This experience was unacceptable though
Order mini cakes for my guys birthday it came amazingly and secure on a well made box, all details taken care of(including delivery). Its delicious, beautiful, we love it!
Super delicious, very nice and quick service, would recommend 🪆🕺
On Saturday I am sad to say that we had a very disappointing lunch. The onion soup was cold even after sending it back to be warmed. Cold cup of coffee and dirty tables. We’ve been loyal customers at the Montrose cafe since it opened. What’s happening to this place?
Ive had the quiche lorraine for breakfast here probably 50 times this year. Only twice have employees told me its not available until after 11am; I asked them to consult a manager, and it was ready within 10 mins. Today the employee told me the same thing, ignored what I said about getting it all the time, and then said there was no manager when I asked to speak to one. CoolEDIT: The manager contacted me to say it wouldnt be a problem in the future. I returned today and had no problem getting the quiche. I was, however, very disappointed to see that theyre still requiring masks despite the recent changes in CDC guidance.EDIT 2: They finally changed their mask policy.
Fruit tart had no flavor. Ordered soft scramble to be cooked harder but it was runny and the flavor of the herbs was disgusting. The baquette was tasty and milk was nice and cold. Won’t go back.
I’ve been here multiple times. Last 2 times, food has not been tasty. The quiche Florentine was kind of sour. I thought maybe the salad dressing got on it. But the crust tasted old and the feta was off. Lastly, the quiche was not visually appealing. I think that the establishment is trying to push their bakery; thus the remaining food gets the shaft.
I m a big fan of Common Bond since it opened in Houston on Westheimer. But this location at Med Center is disgrace to the brand. Food and pastry is great as should be, but the service is horrible. Very dirty inside and outside, 5-6 tables with dirty dishes on them at 10 am (not a peak time). Dirty tables and windows, dirty dishes on bar tabletop. Bartender is slow and sloppy, you wait for a coffee for 10 min to realize they just forget about you. Stay away from this location until they change manager or hire/train more staff.
Atmosphere is so nice and the food was delicious! Excellent service!
Mask are recommended now and not required anymore.Coffee is great!
Ordered margherita for take out. No basil on the flatbread :(
Great place for coffee and pastries. The staff is very warm and welcoming. Definitely give it a visit if in the medical center area!
Decided try this place. I had the pork hash. It was beyond my expectations. Crispy hasbrowns with the sliced cherry tomatoes and melt in your mouth pork. I highly recommend this place.
This is truly an amazing company with delicious everything. The espresso is very good here and paired with one of their decedent dessert you just can’t go wrong.
Great pastries. Coffee situation was grim
Ive been a fan of their first location for a long time, and I just usually pick-up pastries to take home. They have a great variety and the employees are friendly and will help you with what they are, and with suggestions. If you cant pronounce it, its probably a good choice haha. The coffee is also good here, I believe from boomtown, but dont quote me on that. the caramel latte is my favorite. Their cakes are also reasonably priced, and will be my go to for custom orders as well (about 2 weeks notice). Im really excited that they opened a location so close to the med-center, will be coming here often!
The multigrain bread is habit forming, especially toasted. I always make sure I get a new loaf before the current one is finished. I put butter and Marmite on it. OK, lots of people hate Marmite. Just put ANYTHING on it, and its wonderful.
Great place for lunch or yummy pastries and fancy bread.
My favorite stop when Im in the Medical Center. Everything is yummy, but my favorites are the kouign amann and vegan gingersnap cookie. Sooooo good!
Really good... But kind of pricey ..
Nice little Bakery and coffee shop, however the cappuccino was incredibly bitter, either the machine needed a very good cleaning or it wasnt made correctly. Pastries are nice and fresh, tasty.
Fun find for us. The non baked food we had was decent, the baked food we had was amazing. No fountain drinks and the Diet Cokes we bought were only 8 oz. Chicken salad was pretty good and tomato basil soup was so so. The fruit cheesecake dessert we got was fantastic. Will return but will get coffee and something baked and tasty.
Don’t get me wrong, I love the food and atmosphere here. My only issue is their system for order pickup. I almost always have to wait excessively longer than I need to before someone realizes my order is ready and I can leave. I often have to reheat my food, and that’s not necessary.
I love my friendly neighborhood bakery.
One of my favorite locations for tasty Cafe food. i give this place double thumbs up. the service was very welcoming and sociable. prices that wont shock you. this place has great reviews for a reason.
This cafe and bakery is the worst!! The cranberry orange scone was hard as a rock. The scrambled eggs I specifically requested over medium and they were so runny it wouldn’t stay on my fork and the taste was uneatablrMy Latte was not even warm. Please spare yourself the pain(and expense) of a terrible meal! Don’t come to this cafe.
I really like this place but it’s a shame they DON’T KNOW HOW TO MAKE A GOOD COFFEE.I keep getting disappointed...
The desserts might be good but the service and the cleanliness of the restaurant was truly disappointing.
They have awesome coffee and great pastry. The food choices are great too. Managed by awesome people.
Good Coffee!! omg I love their esspresso in here. recommended. is much better than starbucks honestly
Tried their cold brew which tasted old and sour. Cookies are ok if you dont mind paying $4 each.
So dangerous to have a Common Bond so close to me.. I walk in and I want all the pastries!! Especially the croissants! They didnt the location much from when it was Eclair Paris - just added some wood to the counters and thats about it. The dessert selection is pretty much the same from the Montrose location! Theyre clean, pastries look fantastic, they serve a small menu of regular food items and there is a small sitting area on the interior and a few tables exterior as well. I got my stuff boxed to-go so this review is solely on that and not the dine-in/food experience.I got the chocolate croissant - it was a bit rich and chocolately but Im not complaining. We also had the almond croissant and the Boston Cream muffin thing.. Almond croissant was delish, the bf said it tasted a bit like fake almond extract - but I liked the flavors. Both croissants were flakey and delicious (though I was a fan of Eclair Paris and thought theirs was better - lighter and flakier and more buttery). The Boston Cream was ok - the bf really liked it. It was filled with a vanilla cream and a chocolate cream, with a crumbly chocolate topping. We also got the chocolate walnut cookie and it was soft and a bit too doughy. Overall, a good addition to the Med Center because Holcombe lacks good places but its starting to come around with the new restaurants opening up here. Lots of parking in the lot Common Bond is in cause its a strip mall with CVS.
I was very pleased to see a Common Bond open near my apartment, having heard this is one of the best bakeries in Houston. I have enjoyed coming to Common Bond for celebrations with friends, for instance on the occasions of hosting a visitor from out of town or rewarding ourselves for small victories in our personal endeavors. I love home baking and don’t often buy baked goods, but the pastries here are truly exceptional, especially in terms of beautiful presentation. It’s great to have a refillable coffee to accompany a leisurely breakfast of one of these lovely treats.
Im thankful this has become a neighborhood staple. We take weekly walks to grab multi grain bread and delicious pastries
Great spot. Stopped in to meet a friend. Darius behind the counter is the real MVP - he really went the extra mile serving a well-appreciated recommendation. Excellent service and food.
My go-to for a a perfect latte. And their pastries are incredible! The almond croissant is a favorite. Super fast service, as well.
New to the area and weve been here twice. The first time we got a fruit tart, the second time a pistachio croissant. Both were phenomenal, looking forward to coming back.
A good place but I feel that they are taking advantage of this pandemic in ways I do not understand. Overpriced items and still want to charge extra for delivery of orders. Also, have gone to No Cash, only card policy... They have lost my business and I will let all who will listen know...
Wonderful! The staff was helpful and courteous. The food was outstanding. The Nutella croissant was unbelievable. That could be your whole meal with a cup of coffee. iIf you get the French toast and bacon and youre not a big syrup fan ask for the syrup on the side.
Food was not super. Failed with the whole curbside pickup (had to go in to get food after it was clear they weren’t monitoring texts or calls and no napkins resulted in an unpleasant mess of a dining experience). Next time I’ll pass on this place and go elsewhere.
It was great? Cashier was very nice food as always
Food quality 2 to maybe 2.5 stars soft scramble was more liquid than anything (I know its a soft scramble but its not supposed to be egg soup) $12 if you add bacon avocado toast was pretty much just toast with a thin layer of avocado paste and sprouts on it very sad for the $12 entry fee.The drip coffee was actually quite good and the pistachio croissant was amazing! But $5 for a croissant is pretty steep and quite frankly while amazing no better than HEB bakeryService was good everyone very friendly and helpful but took about a half hour to actually get our food, to be fair they were quite busy. Over all Id give three stars taking everything into account. But I probably wont be back and cant say Id reccomend it based on this experience. For the price Id go to the Dandelion cafe off Bellaire and Bissonnet maybe not as many pastry options but food is reliably excellent and much better portions for the price (their avocado toast is piled high), fantastic coffee and treats, staff is always super friendly and efficient in my experience.
Excellent desserts and pastries
Common Bond has been my favorite coffee shop in all of Houston since I moved here many years ago. This was my first time trying this new location and Common Bond continues to exceed my expectations. All of the sandwiches, desserts, and coffee that weve tasted is phenomenal!
