Went in to get some new games for my family and the guy working in the shop at the time was really helpful. I told him we wanted to get something that was fun for adults but only took a short time to play because most of the board games we already own are meant to be played for hours. He showed me multiple different short play games and explained how each of them works and I ended up picking out two because they all sounded fun. My parents have enjoyed playing both of the games he helped me pick out and they each have their own unique game style so we dont get bored. Their selection isnt huge but they have enough to get you going and to come back for more, plus their prices are reasonable too.

Another card shop selling pokemon cards at scapler prices 100 percent mark up 69.99 for a celebrations etb what a joke especially when they get them for 35bucks each. If your looking for a legit card shop Id go to space cadets gaming where they sell stuff at MSRP

Great selection of games. Employees are super knowledgeable and gave great recommendations. Prices are competitive with online. Added bonus, I called back here one night after we bought a game. I ended up getting in a dispute about rules with my friends, as one does, and the owner took the time to look up the rules and call us back with his interpretation. I was correct. 😂

I stopped by out of curiosity, but the store was lovely and the staff was very friendly. I bought two games from here; Sheriff of Nottingham and Jaipur. This store was stocked with the newest version of Sheriff and I was impressed with the quality of the board game. Jaipur was limited edition and I was blown away again. Halcyon Games had great pricing and I was very satisfied. Definitely recommend this place.

Halcyon may not be the largest game store Houston has to offer. But the feeling of welcome and belonging when you come into the store more than makes up for it. Frankie and Bryan are great owners who take hospitality as a personal interest. They and their son Bryan are all amazing to interact with, whether youre buying a new game or looking to play at one of the house tables they are here to help.

Ive shopped here 3 times now and wont be coming back because the sales staff / owners (?) are so aggressive about trying to make a sale. Maybe they think its cute banter or being helpful, but it was impossible to privately discuss a purchase with my husband without being interrupted with a sales suggestion or have one of the owners hovering nearby like a retail vampire waiting to pounce. It felt like we were being simultaneously pressured to make a purchase and INTENSELY watched like we were going to steal something? I dont even know but it felt like I fell into a pool of sharks and they smelled blood in the water; it was intensely uncomfortable for me to the point that clean store and great selection or not, there are other places I can go where I feel like a human whose customer loyalty is earned, not extorted.

This is a wonderful local business. They have a great board and card game selection. Staff is knowledgeable and will play through a game the first time with you. If they have a tester set theyll let you try the game before you buy it. Cant say enough positive things about this store. Go have your Halcyon experience!

The staff is very kind and knowledgeable!I only really stop in for keyforge because its the only thing i play, but the walls are covered in games.They have events for various games throughout the month and have little giveaways when you show up to them. They also offer a generous 5% store credit on purchases, which builds up if youre into a game that asks you to make multiple purchases. All in all i think its a great place with a cozy environment.

Looking for places to eat while on my lunch break the store name caught my attention and I told myself I would stop by after I ate. Glad I did. The store seems a little small but very well organized and clean. The owner greeted me and my visit, though short, was pleasant. I browsed their broad selection of board games and picked up a few dice on my way out. Neat little shop. Will most likely visit again in the future.

I found the stores atmosphere to be tidy and welcoming. Staff is down to earth and very easy to talk to. An employee by the name of Jon was incredibly insightful and personal. He can tell you enough about any game in the store for you to know if its up your alley and make you feel at home at the same time. The weekly event schedule is something I plan to keep my eye on.

Solid selection of what you would expect to find in a strip mall game shop. Great event schedules for hosted dnd and mtg. The guys hanging out and working were also cut from the expected cloth. Will be back when in need of something now... Else Amazon blows prices out of the water.

Great little game shop! John was very helpful and knowledgeable when I came in just to see what they had. He let me know about how Saturdays they play board games all day and about a Munchkin event they were going to have soon that Im excited about. Oh and the fact that their games are 30% Off is pretty sweet too! Definitely looking forward to visiting this place more often.

The back room is perfect for DnD, and you really can not beat their prices. The owners bend over backwards to save you money. If you are hanging out for a while playing, they have a good selection of snacks and drinks that are reasonably priced. Also, it’s the only store I’ve been into in which Magic doesn’t dominate everything, they do weekly board game demos as well.

Was in town for a wedding and can never resist visiting a game store. Prices were competitive with Amazon. The store itself wasn’t very large, but it was floor to ceiling with games all neatly displayed.Apparently they close at 10 and not 11 like it says on Google, but the guy was really nice about it and didn’t kick me out when I walked in.

They have a decent selection of games; however, quite a few are expansions of base games which they do not sell. They also did not feel inviting. I had heard that before going but i assumed it was a salty person since called them nerds. Having been there i agree with the noniviting parr.

Ive been a few times, the selection is always nice and the clerks and other staff are always friendly. Ive been happy to see an increase in the last several months of other players who are interested in games coming out for weekly or weekend events.

The Gaming Goat has a wonderful staff and a stellar game selection. Cheaper prices than you will find anywhere else and if you dont see what you want they are happy to order it for you all while still saving you 20-30 dollars on most purchases. Would give 6 stars if I could.

Went in because I was always meaning to check it out. The staff was very friendly and made sure to give us a flyer with upcoming events. They had a good spread of board games. I went in looking for xwing minis, but they primarily had dnd minis. No big deal. For sure if you need the usual suspect supplies like dnd/magic/Pokemon, they got you covered. You might have to ask to special order stuff if you are looking for something you dont see on the floor. They are open until 2 on weekends, so if you are looking to game REALLY late, this place will do nicely.

4 do to size a bit small, but a 5 for board game selection, organization, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Also I Star Wars so their X-wing minis prices are the lowest in Houston. Plus they have a points program the more u play and buy the more u save. They open at noon so stop by on ur lunch break.

Ok, I’ve reworked my review of the Gaming Goat in light of an update on a bad experience for a prior event that was cancelled. As it turns out, the store did not directly post the event but yet they still acknowledged the event was real on 2 prior occasions. As far as a game store goes, the place is clean and “seems” friendly. They weren’t directly responsible for the miscommunication on that Ashes event, however, the clerk added fuel to the issue by saying I should have come prior week. I won’t dig into the fact that 4 people sitting in the store where there are 2 people watching 2 others play Magic the Gathering is unfortunate…. If a store owner can’t figure out what’s wrong with that picture then good luck to them. In the off chance that no one understands that… here is the answer: drop the mtg game and play something that engages them. Ask them questions… find out if they are interested in something. Don’t be afraid to pull out a demo game and show it off. Make them feel that even though they aren’t playing a popular game they can still become an instant regular by hooking them on one of the other awesome games on the market. It’s the equivalent of inviting people to the house to make them watch you enjoy yourself. Hopefully, the store can figure out how to inform the community via their site better (either their web site or FB site). Does the Gaming Goat stand out from any other gaming store; absolutely not. The only other reason I’m bumping them up on stars is because out of ALL of the Houston area games stores, The Gaming Goat is one of only 2 stores that I saw running the Star Wars Destiny launch party which is noteworthy. I bumped them to 3 stars. I can only hope that people don’t show up for the launch party to find out that it wasn’t real.
