Kurt did a really good job repairing my Husqvarna Weed Eater, at a really fair price and within two days.On my first visit I brought three items that I thought needed repair. Two weedeaters and one blower. Kurt corrected one of the weedeaters and blower at no charge and repaired the other weedeater by replacing the fuel lines and carburetor. He ordered the part that day and had it repaired the next day.I will use Kurt for all future repairs
You will not find a more honest small engine repair shop in the Houston area. He could have took advantage of me twice on lawnmower repairs but he didnt. I highly recommend this shop.
Ive been doing business with Kurt for several years. He has always been honest and above board. His prices seem to be in line or better than others Ive checked into and where others generally require some kind of non-refundable deposit, Kurt always tries to to evaluate the issue and give a rough estimate before you leave, without requiring one. So far his estimate has never varied more than a few dollars from the actual price.
Seems capable enough, but extremely rude owner. He looked at my blower for possible repair and as I tried to explain the symptoms it exhibited the last time used; he rudely cut me off and said I dont need you to tell me anything, I know what Im doing. He said it loudly and rudely In front of his friend/customer. Shocked a biz owner would treat a potential customer that way. We own 2 locations in a service oriented biz ourselves. I told him I would not repair, would buy new. Truth is we will very likely repair it but we will take our business elsewhere. If I have to pay someone for a service, the very least I expect is common courtesy. Would not recommend this biz and would NOT recommend him as he IS the biz.....Edit: took to another small engine repair shop and it was exactly what I thought. It was idling at wrong setting and it was adjusted for $30.00. This shop; K Y immediately said it was carburetorand wanted to charge me $120. Im assuming he wanted to overhaul the whole thing but it was exactly what I thought it was. Very dishonest in my opinion to not even try to adjust the low/high idling speeds before saying carburetor was shot.....
This man just flat out took my money. I took my lawnmower in for repair he told me to go get old carburetor and bring it back. He start working on it before I got back. I decide i wasnt going to use him, so he charged me $50 without my consent to work on it. SMH He was not told to start this job until we got back with the old carburetor. He told us to leave the mower until we got back.
Great service. Very knowledge on partsHome town guy
Once I took my equipment here at KY engine for a lawnmower basic oil change, filter and such.just on the way he responded and how I felt his attitude I just said thanks and left.Well about a year later i felt like give him another chance since I had lawnmower issues now and again I stop by.All I can say is he might be good at what he does, but I feel his attitude doesnt help much,I dont know the guy,if he could at least have a different approach to people he would have many more customer I try 2 times and left just by the way he treated me as a client.
KY Engine is a great place to get your small engine repairs done right and at a reasonable price, the owner has a ton of experience I took him some carburetors that I thought were finished and he bring them back to life, he also repaired my pressure washer and lawnmower that still run good 2 years later.
Awesome mechanic. Solved my problem immediately. Didnt even charge me. Recommend 100%.
We have done business with K.Y. Engine repair for 30 years. Kurt Yong a super nice guy, he has always fixed my lawn equipment I in a very short time. Mike Viator Spring Tx.
Awesome service. He really knows small engines and got my chain saw running in no time!!
Took my pressure washer in to get fixed after it wouldnt start. Cost was fair and estimated up front. Less than a day turn around and I was pressure washing once again. Super fast, low cost, and got the engine up and running. I dont leave a lot of reviews, but Im giving 5 stars and my recommendation.
I have know kurt for 30+ years. He is very knowledgeable and honest. You cannot go wrong using his service. His prices are very fair and reasonable.
Looked at our lawn mower. Told us what caused our problem and how to prevent it from happening again. He said it didn’t need any repairs. Didn’t charge us. Can’t get better than that!
Fantastic service and a super nice guy!
If this man paid me to work on my lawn mower, it would not be worth it as he is the rudest person I have ever met.
Took my weed eater there less than 4 months ago and now still having the same problem i did when i took it to him
Would not recommend this shop to anyone looking for repairs on small engines. In addition to the lack of knowledge on basic repairs on common equipment, the customer service is also poor. If you are in search of a quality small engine repair shop I would look elsewhere.
I went there he looked at my mower lawn and he just told me he can work on my mower with out explanation he just said “ I do not want to work in you mower “ that’ s it!!
Would recommend this company for mower/weedeater repair. Fast and friendly service. He was able to diagnose and repair my weedeater while I was standing there chatting with him. Was thinking my mower would need more time, but he repaired it within a few hours and both machines are running great. And pricing was very reasonable/affordable
Awesome service. First time customer.Took my Toro weed eater and my Ryobi blower in because they would not start. Kurt replaced the fuel and adjusted the carburetors. Had them running perfectly while I waited. I went to pay with a credit card not knowing he didnt take them. He trusted me to leave with my equipment and come back with cash. The bill was 30 dollars. I came back and gave him 40 dollars. No one i have ever met in business is as honest, friendly and trusting. Thank you for being you and having old school values of the past when a handshake ment something. I am a customer for life. Thank you again sir.
I got my pressure washer repaired here. Very professional, great customer service, fair price, and quick turn around time.
Kurt at K.Y engine repair is awesome. I have used other repair shops and had to wait up to three weeks for equipment repairs. I drive by Kurtd shop all the time since it is on my route for lawn service in that area. So I brought in a mower to have some work done on it. Had it back the next day. Picked that up and dropped off a trimmer and it was ready the two days later as we needed to order some parts and it running awesome now and the mower too. I picked up the trimmer and dropped off a stick edger, it was ready in two hours. Runs like a champ now.Super fast turn around time and I know it might not always be that fast and all depending on how many customers are before me. However the prices are at industry going rate. Customer service is great I now take all my equipment there for repairs. I own a lawn service business so turn around time is key for me.I have recommend Kurts shop to others in the lawn industry. Keep up the great job!ThanksKevinTexas veteran lawn Service
The gentleman working there is a class act. I brought a trimmer and blower in for repair. He made some adjustments to the blower and it fired right up. The trimmer however is worn out and done. Knew it as soon as he pulled the rope. He didnt charge me for anything and even wished me a great day with a Christian blessing. Customer for life now. Thank you for the great experience!
Mr. Young is one of the finest young men I know. Quick of wit and powerful in the Lord, he willtake care of your equipment as if it were his own. Bless yourself by taking your equipment to KY Enginefor the care it needs. When you need the job done right, KY Engine is the place to see.Happy customer for 20+ yearsSteven Lemm
This rating will change based on response. I dropped off a lawnmower to be fixed/tuned up. Was told the only issue was spark plug and carburetor needed to be cleaned. Was fixed quickly and for less than quoted amount....unfortunately once we pulled to mower out to be used, it starts and then immediately dies. Still doesnt work. Mower is the same as before...cannot be used. I am buying a new mower from Walmart so I can mow my lawn and will await owners response. If the issue is resolved, mistakes happen and the rating will reflect it. I will update accordingly. I do have the invoice/receipt that I can attach.
They are good at what they do an fair
Price, reliability and customer service!
K.Y. Engine is awesome. I take my mowers, chain saw & weed eater from my house and I haul my 2 lawn tractors from Riverside because you cant get this kind of service at other places. Kurt tells you what is wrong, gives you a quote and it is not only fixed to perfection but he price is as promised. I have been to several shops in my 25 years in Spring but never satisfied till I found K.Y. I have even referred several people from my Sunday School class with confidence and to the man they have been just as satisfied.
Broken fuel line on my blower. Fixed me up while I waited for a very reasonable minimum charge.
The service and professionalism provided by Kirk was above what I expected and read on these threads. It was s very quick repair and then cost for the repair was where I expected it to be. Im very pleased with the customer service provided and he cleaned and filled the gas tank for my Lawn mower.
What a nice guy! Took him less than 5 minutes to get my mower running! Thank you, Mr Young!
I am a long time resident of the Spring area and have been using Kurt at KY Engine for years for my small engine repairs (lawn mowers, weed eaters, blowers and generator). I have found him to be honest and do good work all for a fair price.
Ive been using K.Y. Engine for twenty years. My experience has always been positive---a quality repair at a fair price. My most recent trip to the shop was for a repair on a generator. It was ready the next morning. Before I left, Kirk took the time to give me detailed instructions on how to reduce the likelihood of a problem moving forward. He has always been professional and courteous. I wouldnt go anywhere else for small engine repair.
Fast, inexpensive, quality work. Did not try to sell me service I didnt need. I highly recommend him.
Great HONEST guy! He will do anyone for anything and has a great heart and very loyal and trustworthy.
Great guy, Fast service, honest work. He takes pride in what he does and I would recommend him to anyone. Small shop and competitive pricing.
We thought the service was excellent and the mower now works as good as it was when we bought it new three years ago. The quoted repair price was what we ended up paying within a few dollar. The mower repair also took less time than expected. I will return to this place for future service.
An update. I must say. Things have turned out rather well. I am obligated, sheerly by the will of doing the right things when people do the right things by me. To thank Mr. Kurt for a superb effort in making what was purely a brief oversight right, in flying colors.I returned my professional string trimmer which he recently repaired and remained unreliable to KY Engine on Spring School Road. Mr. Kurt, without the customary ahems and uh-huhs of the mechanical servicing capitals of the world that we are all familiar with — gladly accepted the returned trimmer on two successive occasions with renewed commitments to make the issues right. He has done so and my machine is now in awesome running condition. With the bonus that he repaired a few nuisance items that were not within the scope of our original negotiation. As difficult as some merchants often are at reaching amicable solutions, I am grateful I have found one in the very useful industry of small engine repairs.Rene Abril
Great knowledge and quick service and fair prices. None in the area better.
Great repair shop.
I called to see what it would cost to replace a lawn mower blade. He askes what brand of mower is it? I told him the guys bought it from Home Depot. He says, Home Depot doesnt make mowers. I called my lawn crew and learned that it was a Toro. They said most 22 inch blades would fit and he should have know that. He also said that he only takes cash or check, no credit. Credit gives us fraud protection so I wonder about this guy. I looked at the online reviews and it seems that whenever theres a bad review he rarely owns up to it; not his fault. Never mind the Good Christian commentators who think this is a great place (and may go to church with the owner)- I found him condescending
Ive done business with K-Y Engine for 20 years. Its an independent, one-man operation. The owner is capable and a fine man.
Fair and an honest man. Always does good work!
Zero Stars for this shop. I requested new belts for my riding lawn mower, and an oil change. I waited three weeks for the repairs, and the repairs were done incorrectly. The belt for the mower has slipped off twice, and he repaired it once at my house after accusing me of bending the pulley when trying to repair it myself. I didnt touch the pulley, other than wiggle it to see if it was loose. It was. Bottom line: this joker had my machine for three weeks, charged me almost 500.00 for the repairs, and it still does not cut the grass. This man was asked to leave my property after accusing me of bending the pulley. There has got to be a better service, because it does not get any worse than this.
Quick service .....very expensive.... he will fix your problem without approval....but very expensive...........Part 2...After talking to some of my neighbors about how much i payed...i feel real dumb right now so I take it as a lesson learn...so Im warning everyone to find out how much it cost before work is done...I hope this was helpful
Fast, honest, friendly service. price is a little on the high side, but in this case, you get what you pay for.
I took a string trimmer over there for some issues..the primer bulb cracked & wouldnt prime anymore and the fuel cap was leaking due to a bad cork seal. I told the owner that it ran fine up until the fuel leaks. Now it doesnt. He said the fuel system was a closed system and my fuel leaks wouldnt have anything to do with how its now running. He said the carburetor needs replacing..without ever seeing it run ($95). I asked if he would just sell me a new fuel cap and primer bulb, which he did have on hand ($14). I just wanted to try this first and see how it would run. It seems to run fine now, so...Idk. 😏
Very helpful, great honest guy highly recommend!
Took mower in at 8am and out by 1:30!! Great customer service they will get all my business
I bring carpet cleaning machine, 4 cylinder to KY and he said that he didnt have experience with the machineMachine doesnt want to start but he show me how to do quickjump start just to make work done if problem again in the middle of the job.I dont know nothing about parts of the machine but with patient he explained to me detail about how starter work etc.He also show me actual how to quick jump start,he did with his lawn mower. He is humble and nice guy .In 45 minutes I learned a lot about starter etc from himHe didnt charge any to me.Highly recommended
Had a generator that had been seating for a couple of years and could not get it to start so I took it to KY Engine. He replaced the carb and tuned it up and it runs great and at a fair price.
Fast turn around and price acceptable for work done
Absolute worst experience ever. A trimmer went in for repair and repair cost was almost as much as the price new. It worked 3 times after that and too it back. He wanted more money to look at it again. There is a reason it is called KY. Get ready to be bent over.
They couldnt fix my leaf blower yet tried to charge me $110 for a two minute manual diagnostics test. He pulled the cord a few times then noticed oil leaking out.
CONSUMER BEWARE: Have the KY ready...I dropped off 2 weed eaters. One was locked up and the other ran rough. They were both fixed promptly so when I went to go pick them up, I dropped off another, pleased with his fast work. He cranked up the weed eaters and let them run for a bit but told me they both had a mixture of bad gas and it was causing the engine to gum up. I was told he switched the gas out and flushed both engines. I was pleased until I got them home. The weed eater that was locked up refused to start and ran very weakly after it finally cranked. Its symptoms resembled the weed eater that ran rough when I dropped it off. So I tried out that one. I cranked it up and it immediately choked out when I squeezed the throttle. Then I noticed the gas level was exactly where I left it when I dropped off the weed eater. Being a minor chemist, I pulled out my kit and tested the gas in my tank against the gas in the weed eater that was allegedly replaced. They were identical. So the gas was never flushed, which made me wonder exactly what he did. I looked at the work order and it stated adjusted carb. Surely I didnt pay the guy $40 to turn a screw. So I get my screwdriver out, turn the carb adjustment screw and the engine runs exactly as it did before. I am infuriated and call my dad, the owner of the weed eater I just dropped off. He tells me the weed eater is under warranty and I should let Toro look at it. I call KY and get no answer. I leave a message telling them not to work on the weed eater and turn around to go pick it up before they get started. When I get back to the shop the owner looks up at me and says, I see you got my call. What call? I asked. He says, I called to let you know it was ready. I tell him, I never got a call from you. And I see you didnt get my message. The weed eater was still under warranty and Toro wouldve fixed it for me. He says, No they wouldnt. Not for low compression. Thats a piston issue and not even worth fixing. Disappointed I didnt catch him in time, I asked, Well what is this shop fee? He says, Its for all these sprays I used to fix it, paper towels, gas. I reply, But you didnt use any of those. Plus you charged me for a pickup/delivery fee on my other weed eater and Im pretty sure that didnt happen. He then asks me, Are you not satisfied with my work? I tell him, Your work is fine, I just wish you had picked up the phone so I could let them fix it for free. He just makes an angry face and replies, Thatll be $40. After reluctantly paying him, he just silently walks over to his metal bench and goes back to working, this time banging on the piece he was fixing when I arrived. Zero people skills. At this point I realize why I never received the alleged call about it being fixed. He probably just adjusted another screw and was planning to call hours later to make it seem like it took a lot of work to fix, instead of less than 20 minutes. To confirm my suspicions, the other service orders stated a time he notified the customer, this one didnt because he just lied and never actually called. Why would he lie? The repair order was written up to state that he repaired the plug boot, lubed the engine, adjusted the carb, added extra oil to the fuel, tested and adjusted idle setting. A lot of work for 10 minutes or so since he was headed to lunch when I left the shop. If you like dishonest workers who nickel and dime you for services not rendered, then by all means use KY. Just make sure to have some on hand so you can be ready to get screwed for him to turn a screw. I wouldnt recommend him to my worst enemy. STEER CLEAR OF KY!!!
I have been going to K Y engines for over 5 years and he can fix everything.
Not good, poor people skills work done OK the mower ran and the weed eater ran (after 100. tab for both each!) but had to put up this guys crap wasnt worth it.
Overcharges I did my own repair for $15, Not $100
Very helpful!
Cool place for lawnmower
Friendly and knowledgeable owner
Dropped my mower off at the shop and it was done the next day. The guy even took the time to clean it for me.
It sure sucks
